1Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming.However,the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented.Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country.Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon,which stimulated carbon uptake,and the warming hiatus,which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect,atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift.In conclusion,within the context of the global-warming hiatus,the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration.Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades,but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas.Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu 2019National Science Review2019,6,3:24
2Effect of microstructure on the mechanical and corrosion behaviors of a hot-extruded nickel aluminum bronze显示文摘In this paper,the influence of microstructure on the corrosion behavior of a hotextruded nickel aluminum bronze was studied.Three kinds of samples subjected to the hot-extrusion,annealing and quenching conditions were prepared and immersion tests in 3.5% NaCl solution were carried out.Microstructures and corrosion surface morphologies of the samples were observed by SEM.It was found that the retained β martensite and(α+κⅢ) lamella eutectoid in the as hot-extruded material were eliminated after annealing,and corrosion resistance of the alloy was improved.As to the as-quenched material,its corrosion rate was higher than that of the as hotextruded material since the volume fraction of β phase which was anodic to α phase increased after quenching.As regards the mechanical properties,the as-quenched sample possesses the highest hardness and tensile strength among the three kinds of samples,while the as-annealed sample possesses the highest elongation.That is to say,heat treatment plays different roles in the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the experimental alloy.Datong ZHANG Ruiping CHEN Weiwen ZHANG Zongqiang LUO Yuanyuan LI 2010Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2010,23,2:5
3Asymmetric competition for light varies across functional groups显示文摘Aims Asymmetric competition for light may depress the growth rates(GRs)to different extents for different-sized tree individuals.Various responses of different functional groups to light availability result that tree individuals of different functional groups may experience different competition intensities,e.g.canopy and deciduous species grow faster and demand more light than understory and evergreen species.In this study,we estimated the effects of asymmetric competition for light using individual GRs and explored the effects of asymmetric competition on growth among different functional groups(e.g.canopy vs.understory species and deciduous vs.evergreen species).Methods We measured growth in circumference to determine the radial increments of a total of 2233 stems with diameter at breast height≥5.0 cm in a permanent plot(140×80 m^(2))located in a typical evergreen and deciduous broadleaved mixed forest on Mt Shennongjia,China.All of the measurements were carried out at~6-month intervals every April and October from 2012 to 2014,and biomass of each individual was calculated based on its diameter and species-specific allometry.We then calculated GRs of annual biomass growth(growth between October and the next October).Considering the hypothesis that asymmetric competition for light among trees of different sizes may result in a steeper allometric growth curve with increasing tree size,we further divided the sampled trees into different subsets according to their height,at intervals of 1 m,and then fitted the scaling relationship between the logarithm of the biomass GR(logGR)and the logarithm of diameter(logD)for each height class using standardized major axis regression.Finally,we used simple linear regression to test whether the scaling exponent was related to tree height.The above analyses were conducted for the annual growth of all tree species,canopy species,understory vs.treelets species and deciduous vs.evergreen species.Important findings We observed a concave curve for the relationship between logGR and logD with an increase in the scaling exponent between logGR and logD with increasing tree height.This pattern held for the annual growth of canopy species and deciduous species but not for the annual growth of understory species,treelets or evergreen species.These results suggest that asymmetric competition for light is more important in regulating the GRs of the fast-growing species,such as canopy species and deciduous species,than those of shade-tolerant species,such as understory species,treelets and evergreen species.Qiang Guo Xiulian Chi Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang 2017Journal of Plant Ecology2017,10,1:5
4Effects of structure and sur-face properties on carbon nanotubes' hydrogen storage characteristics显示文摘Hydrogen adsorption experiments were carried out in special stainless steel vessels at room temperature (298K) and under 10 MPa using self-synthesized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. In the experiments, carbon nanotubessynthesized by the seeded catalyst method were pretreatedby being soaked in chemical reagents or annealed at hightemperature before they were used to adsorb hydrogen, but their capacity for hydrogen storage was still poor. Carbonnanotubes synthesized by the floating catalyst method were found to be able to adsorb more hydrogen. 5In vitro effects of sodium hyaluronate on the proliferation and the apoptosis in chondrocytes from patients with Kashin-Beck disease and osteoarthritis显示文摘Objective:To identify the in vitro effects of sodium hyaluronate(HA) on the proliferation and the apoptosis of chondrocytes from patients with Kashin-Beck disease(KBD) and osteoarthritis(OA). Methods:Samples of articular cartilages from KBD and OA patients, as well as healthy volunteers(6 subjects in each of the 3 groups) were dissected, digested with collagenase and the cells cultured in monolayers. Chondrocytes from each sample were assigned to an untreated group and two HA-treated groups: H0(no HA), H100(HA, 0.1 g/L) and H500(HA, 0.5 g/L). The first passage chondrocytes were used to observe proliferation using the MTT assay, and apoptosis by flow cytometry through Annexin V/PI staining. Results:HA promoted proliferation of chondrocytes in all the three groups, and in KBD and OA groups, for cells cultured for 4 and 6 days, H500 significantly promoted the cell proliferation. The apoptotic rates of both KBD and OA group chondrocytes were in the order H500 < HA100 < H0. 6Nasal delivery of broadly neutralizing antibodies protects mice from lethal challenge with SARS-CoV-2 delta and omicron variants显示文摘Multiple new variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-Co V-2)have constantly emerged,as the delta and omicron variants,which have developed resistance to currently gained neutralizing antibodies.This highlights a critical need to discover new therapeutic agents to overcome the variants mutations.Despite the availability of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),the use of broadly neutralizing antibodies has been considered as an alternative way for the prevention or treatment of SARS-Co V-2 variants infection.Here,we show that the nasal delivery of two previously characterized broadly neutralizing antibodies(F61 and H121)protected K18-h ACE2 mice against lethal challenge with SARS-Co V-2 variants.The broadly protective efficacy of the F61 or F61/F121 cocktail antibodies was evaluated by lethal challenge with the wild strain(WIV04)and multiple variants,including beta(B.1.351),delta(B.1.617.2),and omicron(B.1.1.529)at 200or 1000 TCID_(50),and the minimum antibody administration doses(5-1.25 mg/kg body weight)were also evaluated with delta and omicron challenge.Fully prophylactic protections were found in all challenged groups with both F61 and F61/H121 combination at the administration dose of 20 mg/kg body weight,and corresponding mice lung viral RNA showed negative,with almost all alveolar septa and cavities remaining normal.Furthermore,low-dose antibody treatment induced significant prophylactic protection against lethal challenge with delta and omicron variants,whereas the F61/H121 combination showed excellent results against omicron infection.Our findings indicated the potential use of broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibodies as prophylactic and therapeutic agent for protection of current emerged SARS-Co V-2 variants infection.Jia Lu Qiangling Yin Rongjuan Pei Qiu Zhang Yuanyuan Qu Yongbing Pan Lina Sun Ding Gao Cuiqin Liang Jingwen Yang Wei Wu Jiandong Li Zongqiang Cui Zejun Wang Xinguo Li Dexin Li Shiwen Wang Kai Duan Wuxiang Guan Mifang Liang Xiaoming Yang 2022Virologica Sinica2022,37,2:4
7C:N:P stoichiometry of Ericaceae species in shrubland biomes across Southern China:influences of climate,soil and species identity显示文摘Aims Carbon(C),nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)stoichiometry strongly affect functions and nutrient cycling within ecosystems.However,the related researches in shrubs were very limited.In this study,we aimed to inves-tigate leaf stoichiometry and its driving factors in shrubs,and whether stoichiometry significantly differs among closely related species.Methods We analyzed leaf C,N and P concentrations and their ratios in 32 species of Ericaceae from 161 sites across southern China.We examined the relationships of leaf stoichiometry with environmen-tal variables using linear regressions,and quantified the interactive and independent effects of climate,soil and species on foliar stoi-chiometry using general linear models(GLM).Important Findings The foliar C,N and P contents of Ericaceae were 484.66,14.44 and 1.06 mg g−1,respectively.Leaf C,N and P concentrations and their ratios in Ericaceae were significantly related with latitude and altitude,except the N:P insignificantly correlated with latitude.Climate(mean annual temperature and precipitation)and soil properties(soil C,N and P and bulk density)were significantly influenced element stoichiom-etry.The GLM analysis showed that soil exerted a greater direct effect on leaf stoichiometry than climate did,and climate affected leaf traits mainly via indirect ways.Further,soil properties had stronger influ-ences on leaf P than on leaf C and N.Among all independent factors examined,we found species accounted for the largest proportion of the variation in foliar stoichiometry.These results suggest that species can largely influence foliar stoichiometry,even at a lower taxonomic level.Qiang Zhang Qing Liu Huajun Yin Chunzhang Zhao Lin Zhang Guoying Zhou Chunying Yin Zhijun Lu Gaoming Xiong Yuelin Li Jiaxiang Li Wenting Xu Zhiyao Tang Zongqiang Xie 2019Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,2:4
8Microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of Pt/SnO2 gas sensor for CO detection显示文摘In this paper,the Pt/SnO2 nanostructures were prepared via a facile one-step microwave assisted hydrothermal route.The structure of the introduced Pt/SnO2 and its gas-sensing properties toward CO were investigated.The results from the TEM test reveal that Pt grows on the SnO2 nanostructure,which was not found for bulk in this situ method,constructing Pt/SnO2.The results indicated that the sensor using 3.0 wt%Pt/SnO2 to 100 ppm carbon monoxide performed a superior sensing properties compared to 1.5 wt%and 4.5 wt%Pt/SnO2 at 225℃.The response time of 3.0 wt%sensor is 16 s to 100 ppm CO at225℃.Such enhanced gas sensing performances could be attributed to the chemical and electrical factors.In view of chemical factors,the presence of Pt facilitates the surface reaction,which will improve the gas sensing properties.With respect to the electrical factors,the Pt/SnO2 plays roles in increasing the sensor’s response due to its characteristic configuration.In addition,the one-step in situ microwave assisted process provides a promising and versatile choice for the preparation of gas sensing materials.Qingji Wang Liwen Bao Zongqiang Cao Chaoyang Li Xu Li Fangmeng Liu Peng Sun Geyu Lu 2020Chinese Chemical Letters2020,31,8:4
9Highly Efficient Synthesis of Environmentally Friendly Ag-modified TiO2 Nanoflowers to Enhance Photocatalytic Performance显示文摘Ag-modified TiO2 nanoflowers were prepared using a two-step process. The experimental process is green and free from contamination and can be synthesized directly at room temperature. Compared with pure TiO2, Ag-modified TiO2 enhances the absorption of visible light and effectively promotes the detachment of photoelectron pairs, Ag-TiO2 has a significantly enhanced visible light response activity to photodecomposition of methyl orange(MO). It is shown that the strong interaction between Ag nanoparticles and TiO2 enhances the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanoflowers. The self-made open-air reactor was used to test the photocatalytic performance of different samples. The results showed that Ag-modified TiO2 nanoflowers had excellent photodegradation ability. 10Near-atomic structure of the inner ring of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae nuclear pore complex显示文摘Nuclear pore complexes(NPCs)mediate bidirectional nucleocytoplasmic transport of substances in eukaryotic cells.However,the accurate molecular arrangement of NPCs remains enigmatic owing to their huge size and highly dynamic nature.Here we determined the structure of the asymmetric unit of the inner ring(IR monomer)at 3.73Åresolution by single-particle cryo-electron microscopy,and created an atomic model of the intact IR consisting of 192 molecules of 8 nucleoporins.In each IR monomer,the Z-shaped Nup188–Nup192 complex in the middle layer is sandwiched by two approximately parallel rhomboidal structures in the inner and outer layers,while Nup188,Nup192 and Nic96 link all subunits to constitute a relatively stable IR monomer.In contrast,the intact IR is assembled by loose and instable interactions between IR monomers.These structures,together with previously reported structural information of IR,reveal two distinct interaction modes between IR monomers and extensive flexible connections in IR assembly,providing a structural basis for the stability and malleability of IR.Zongqiang Li Shuaijiabin Chen Liang Zhao Guoqiang Huang Xiong Pi Shan Sun Peiyi Wang Sen-Fang Sui 2022Cell Research2022,32,5:2

12Sap-flow measurement and scale transferring from sample trees to entire forest stand of Populus euphratica in desert riparian forest in extreme arid region显示文摘Understanding how the transpiration of this vegetation type responds to environmental stress is important for determining the wa-ter-balance dynamics of the riparian ecosystem threatened by groundwater depletion. Transpiration and sap flow were measured using the heat-pulse technique. The results were then projected up to the stand level to investigate the stand's water-use in relation to climate forcing in the desert riparian forest in an extreme arid region. This study took place from April through October 2003 and from May through October 2004. The experimental site was selected in the Populus euphratica Forest Reserve (101o10' E, 41o59' N) in Ejina county, in the lower Heihe River basin, China. The sapwood area was used as a scalar to extrapolate the stand-water consumption from the whole trees' water consumption measured by the heat-pulse velocity recorder (HPVR). Scale transferring from a series of individual trees to a stand was done according to the existing natural variations between trees under given environmental conditions. The application of the biometric parameters available from individual tree and stand levels was proved suitable for this purpose. A significant correlation between the sapwood area and tree diameter at breast height (DBH) was found. The prediction model is well fitted by the power model. On the basis of the prediction model, the sapwood area can be cal-culated by DBH. 13Two Ultraviolet Radiation Datasets that Cover China显示文摘Ultraviolet(UV) radiation has significant effects on ecosystems, environments, and human health, as well as atmospheric processes and climate change. Two ultraviolet radiation datasets are described in this paper. One contains hourly observations of UV radiation measured at 40 Chinese Ecosystem Research Network stations from 2005 to 2015. CUV3 broadband radiometers were used to observe the UV radiation, with an accuracy of 5%, which meets the World Meteorology Organization's measurement standards. The extremum method was used to control the quality of the measured datasets. The other dataset contains daily cumulative UV radiation estimates that were calculated using an all-sky estimation model combined with a hybrid model. The reconstructed daily UV radiation data span from 1961 to 2014. The mean absolute bias error and root-mean-square error are smaller than 30% at most stations, and most of the mean bias error values are negative, which indicates underestimation of the UV radiation intensity. These datasets can improve our basic knowledge of the spatial and temporal variations in UV radiation.
