| 1 | Liposomes and lipid disks traverse the BBB and BBTB as intact forms as revealed by two-step F?rster resonance energy transfer imaging显示文摘The blood–brain barrier(BBB) and the blood–brain tumor barrier(BBTB) prevent drug and nano-drug delivery systems from entering the brain. However, ligand-mediated nano-drug delivery systems have significantly enhanced the therapeutic treatment of glioma. In this study we investigated the mechanism especially the integrity of liposomes and lipid disks while traversing the BBB and BBTB both in vitro and in vivo. Fluorophores(DiO, DiI and DiD) were loaded into liposomes and lipid disks to form F?rster resonance energy transfer(FRET) nano-drug delivery systems. Using brain capillary endothelial cells as a BBB model, we show that liposomes and disks are present in the cytoplasm as their intact forms and traverse the BBB with a ratio of 0.68‰ and 1.67‰, respectively. Using human umbilical vein endothelial cells as BBTB model, liposomes and disks remained intact and traversed the BBTB with a ratio of 2.31‰and 8.32‰ at 3 h. Ex vivo imaging and immunohistochemical results revealed that liposomes and disks could traverse the BBB and BBTB in vivo as intact forms. | 2 | Toughening Poly(lactic acid) with Imidazolium-based Elastomeric Ionomers显示文摘Imidazolium-based elastomeric ionomers(i-BIIR) were facilely synthesized by ionically modified brominated poly(isobutylene-co-isoprene)(BIIR) with different alkyl chain imidazole and thoroughly explored as novel toughening agents for poly(lactic acid)(PLA). The miscibility, thermal behavior, phase morphology and mechanical property of ionomers and blends were investigated through dynamic mechanical analyses(DMA), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), tensile and impact testing. DMA and SEM results showed that better compatibility between the PLA and i-BIIR was achieved compared to the PLA/unmodified BIIR elastomer. A remarkable improvement in ductility with an optimum elongation at break up to235% was achieved for the PLA/i-BIIR blends with 1-dodecylimidazole alkyl chain(i-BIIR-12), more than 10 times higher than that of pure PLA. The impact strengths of PLA were enhanced from 1.9 kJ/m^2 to 4.1 kJ/m^2 for the PLA/10 wt% i-BIIR-12 blend. Toughening mechanism had been established by systematical analysis of the compatibility, intermolecular interaction and phase structures of the blends. Interfacial cavitations initiated massive shear yielding of the PLA matrix owing to a suitable interfacial adhesion which played a key role in the enormous toughening effect in these blends. | 3 | Anatomical variation of infra-pyloric artery origination: A prospective multicenter observational study (IPA-Origin)显示文摘Objective: Infra-pyloric artery(IPA) is an important anatomical landmark in treatment of gastric cancer and is the key vessel for pylorus-preserving gastrectomy and subgroup of infra-pyloric lymph nodes. However, its anatomical variation is not thoroughly understood. Our study aimed to clarify the origination of the IPA.Methods: We did this prospective, multicenter, open-label, observational study at gastric surgery departments of34 hospitals in China. Gastric cancer patients aged 18 years or older and scheduled to undergo elective total or distal gastrectomy were assigned. During the surgery, IPA dissecting and exposing the origination point with photographs or video clips were required. The primary outcome was the origination of the IPA. Analysis of variance, χ~2 tests and Fisher's tests were used to analyze the differences between groups. The study is registered at Clinicaltrials.gov(No. NCT03071237).Results: Between May 8 and July 31, 2017, 429 patients were assigned for the study, and 419(97.7%) patients had the IPA dissected and recorded through photograph or video and were included in the primary outcome analysis. The median age was 62 years old, and 73.7% were male. Among the patients, 78.5% received laparoscopic surgery. Single IPA origination was identified in 398(95.0%) patients, including gastroduodenal artery(GDA) in154(36.8%) patients, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery(ASPDA) in 130(31.0%) patients, and right gastroepiploic artery(RGEA) in 114(27.2%) patients. Fifteen(3.6%) patients were identified with multiple IPA and 6(1.4%) patients were identified as IPA absence. The differences in the distribution of surgical approach(P=0.003) and geographic area(P=0.030) were statistically significant. | 4 | Reconstructing the size of individual trees using log data from cut-to-length harvesters in Pinus radiata plantations: a case study in NSW, Australia显示文摘With their widespread utilization, cut-to-length harvesters have become a major source of ‘‘big data'' for forest management as they constantly capture, and provide a daily flow of, information on log production and assortment over large operational areas. Harvester data afford the calculation of the total log length between the stump and the last cut but not the total height of trees. They also contain the length and end diameters of individual logs but not always the diameter at breast height overbark(DBHOB) of harvested stems largely because of time lapse, operating and processing issues and other system deficiencies. Even when DBHOB is extracted from harvester data, errors and/or bias of the machine measurements due to the variation in the stump height of harvested stems from that specified for the harvester head prior to harvesting and diameter measurement errors may need to be corrected. This study developed(1) a system of equations for estimating DBHOB of trees from diameter overbark(DOB) measured by a harvester head at any height up to 3 m above ground level and(2) an equation to predict the total height of harvested stems in P. radiata plantations from harvester data. To generate the data required for this purpose, cut-to-length simulations of more than 3000 trees with detailed taper measurements were carried out in the computer using the cutting patterns extracted from the harvester data and stump height survey data from clearfall operations. The equation predicted total tree height from DBHOB, total log length and the small end diameter of the top log. Prediction accuracy for total tree height was evaluated both globally over the entire data space and locally within partitioned subspaces through benchmarking statistics. These statistics were better than that of the conventional height-diameter equations for P. radiata found in the literature, even when they incorporated stand age and the average height and diameter of dominant trees in the stand as predictors. So this equation when used with harvester data would outperform the conventional equations in tree height prediction. Tree and stand reconstructions of the harvested forest is the necessary first step to provide the essential link of harvester data to conventional inventory, remote sensing imagery and Li DAR data. | 5 | Nonlinear Parametric Vibration of a Fluid-Conveying Pipe Flexibly Restrained at the Ends显示文摘In this paper,the nonlinear parametric vibration of fluid-conveying pipes flexibly restrained at both ends and subjected to the pulsation flow excitation is investigated.The nonlinear equation of motion is derived using Hamilton^principle by considering the Kevin-Voigt viscoelastic damping,the geometric nonlinearity and the translational and rotational springs supported at the ends.The mode functions and eigen-frequencies are determined by the assumed mode method according to the elastic boundary conditions.The Galerkin method is implemented to obtain the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the pipe conveying fluid with different flow velocities.The effects of flexibly restrained conditions on stability of the pipe are analyzed.The nonlinear responses of the pipe under pulsating flow excitation are solved by the direct numerical method.The vibration behaviors are discussed in details,such as time history,frequency spectrum,phase-plane portrait,Poincare map and motion trajectory.The results show that the responses of sub-harmonic resonance and combination resonance can also be reflected in the rigidly supported pipes.The 1/5,1/8 and 1/13 sub-harmonic resonances can occur at certain excitation frequencies of the nonlinear parametric vibration system.The steady-state response amplitudes increase by a large margin and significantly affect the stability of the pipe.The effects of different spring stiffness coefficients on the parametric resonance responses are presented.For larger translational springs and rotational stiffness coefficients,the resonance frequencies shift to higher regions and the resonance amplitudes may reduce by a certain extent in accordance with the rigid-body motion.This study can provide helpful guidance on the analysis and design of piping systems subject to vibrations. | Qian Li Wei Liu Kuan Lu Zhufeng Yue | 2020 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2020,33,3: | 4 |
