2Long-term follow-up of the effects of fecal microbiota transplantation in combination with soluble dietary fiber as a therapeutic regimen in slow transit constipation显示文摘As some studies have reported that strategies targeting the gut microbiota such as fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT) with or without other microecological therapy might have efficacy in treating slow transit constipation(STC), we conducted a singlecenter, open-label trial to study the long-term effect of FMT combined with soluble dietary fiber(pectin) on STC. Thirty-one adult patients with STC were enrolled into the trial. Patients received 6-day FMT procedures repeatedly for the first 3 months and soluble dietary fiber(pectin) daily during the follow-up. The rate of clinical remission and improvement, stool consistency, the Wexner constipation scale, and assessment of constipation-related symptoms were evaluated at week 4 and 1 year later. The clinical remission and improvement rates at week 4 were 69.0%(20/29) and 75.9%(22/29), respectively. At the end of the study,48.3%(14/29) of patients continued to have at least three complete spontaneous bowel movements per week and 58.6%(17/29)of patients showed clinical improvements. Stool consistency, the Wexner constipation scale, and constipation symptoms improved both at short-term and long-term follow-up. 6Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. 8Soil Fertility,Microbial Biomass,and Microbial Functional Diversity Responses to Four Years Fertilization in an Apple Orchard in North China显示文摘Soil microbial communities play an essential role in maintaining soil fertility and are considered as ecological indicators to evaluate soil health.In the present study,we examined the influence of almost 4 years of fertilization[no fertilizer(CK),nitrogen alone(N),nitrogen,phosphorus and potassium chemical fertilizer(NPK),organicmanure(M),nitrogen plus organic manure(NM),and NPK plus organic manure(NPKM)]on soil fertility and the functional diversity of soil microbial communities in an apple orchard.Compared to CK,fertilization increased soil organic carbon,total nitrogen,and available nutrients,but reduced soil pH in N and NPK treatments.The highest microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen,most probable number of actinomycetes,bacteria,and fungi occurred in the NPKM treatment.The average well color development(AWCD)values followed the order of NPKM>M>NPK and NM>CK and N.The Shannon index in organic manure treatments were significantly higher than in control and in treatments without organic manure.The principal component analysis showed that manure treatment was significantly separated from other treatments.These results indicated that organic manure applied alone or in combination with chemical fertilizers would increase soil fertility and functional diversity of soil microbial communities.Moreover,applying balanced N,P,K fertilizer in combination with organic manure was found to be superior to the use of a single fertilizer in improving soil microbial community quality.Zhanling Zhu Yan Bai Minglu Lv Ge Tian Xin Zhang Li Li Yuanmao Jiang Shunfeng Ge 2020Horticultural Plant Journal2020,6,4:13
9Impact of Traffic Emissions on Local Air Quality and the Potential Toxicity of Traffic-related Particulates in Beijing, China显示文摘Objective Air-borne particulates from different sources could have different physicochemical properties and inflammatory potentials. This study aims to characterize the chemical compositions and the toxicity of ambient particulate matter (PM) associated with traffic emissions. Methods The concentrations of trace elements, organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in PM 2.5 and PM 10 were measured in samples collected at sites in Beijing, China. Their toxic effects on the pulmonary system of rats were investigated. Biochemical parameters (LDH, T-AOC, TP) and inflammatory cytokine(IL-6, IL-1, TNF-α) levels were measured in the lungs of rats exposed to traffic-related PM. Oxidative damage was observed. PM samples were taken from a near road site and an off road site in summer time in 2006. Results The concentrations of the USEPA priority pollutant PAHs in both PM 10 and PM 2.5 were higher (299.658 and 348.412) at the near road site than those (237.728 and 268.472) at the off road site. The similar trend was observed for the concentrations of trace elements in PM. Compared to coarse particles (PM 10 ), fine particles (PM 2.5 ) have a greater adsorption capacity to enrich toxic elements than inhalable particles. Decrease in antioxidant capacity and an increase in the amount of lipid peroxidation products in rat lung tissues was observed. 10Surgical management of 143 patients with adult primary retroperitoneal tumor显示文摘AIM: To analyze the surgical management of adult primary retroperitoneal tumors (APRT) and the factors influencing the outcome after operation. METHODS: Data of 143 cases of APRT from 1990 to 2003 in the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS: A total of 143 cases of APRT were treated surgically. Among them, 122 (85.3%) underwent complete resection, 16 (11.2%) incomplete resection, and 3 (3%) surgical biopsies. Twenty-nine (20.2%) underwent tumor resection plus multiple organ resections. Ninety-five malignant cases were followed up for 1 mo to 5 years. The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year survival rates of the patients subject to complete resection was 94.9%, 76.6% and 34.3% and that of patients with incomplete resection was 80.4%, 6.7%, and 0%, respectively (P < 0.001). The Cox multi-various regression analysis showed the completeness of tumor, sex and histological type were associated closely with local recurrence. 11m^6A-dependent biogenesis of circular RNAs in male germ cells显示文摘The majority of circular RNAs(circRNAs)spliced from coding genes contain open reading frames(ORFs)and thus,have protein coding potential.However,it remains unknown what regulates the biogenesis of these ORF-containing circRNAs,whether they are actually translated into proteins and what functions they play in specific physiological contexts.Here,we report that a large number of circRNAs are synthesized with increasing abundance when late pachytene spermatocytes develop into round and then elongating spermatids during murine spermatogenesis.For a subset of circRNAs,the back splicing appears to occur mostly at m^6A-enriched sites,which are usually located around the start and stop codons in linear mRNAs.Consequently,approximately a half of these male germ cell circRNAs contain large ORFs with m^6A-modified start codons in their junctions,features that have been recently shown to be associated with protein-coding potential.Hundreds of peptides encoded by the junction sequences of these circRNAs were detected using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,suggesting that these circRNAs can indeed be translated into proteins in both developing(spermatocytes and spermatids)and mature(spermatozoa)male germ cells.The present study discovered not only a novel role of m^6A in the biogenesis of coding circRNAs,but also a potential mechanism to ensure stable and long-lasting protein production in the absence of linear mRNAs,i.e.,through production of circRNAs containing large ORFs and m^6A-modified start codons in junction sequences.Chong Tang Yeming Xie Tian Yu Na Liu Zhuqing Wang Rebekah J.Woolsey Yunge Tang Xinzong Zhang Weibing Qin Ying Zhang Ge Song Weiwei Zheng Juan Wang Weitian Chen Xiongyi Wei Zhe Xie Rachel Klukovich Huili Zheng David R.Quilici Wei Yan 2020Cell Research2020,30,3:12
12Biomass-Based Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Aboveground Architectural Parameter Models显示文摘To quantify the relationships between rice plant architecture parameters and the corresponding organ biomass, and to research on functional structural plant models of rice plant, this paper presented a biomass-based model of aboveground architectural parameters of rice (Oryza sativa L.) in the young seedling stage, designed to explain effects of cultivars and environmental conditions on rice aboveground morphogenesis at the individual leaf level. Various model variables, including biomass of blade and blade length, were parameterized for rice based on data derived from an outdoor experiment with rice cv. Liangyou 108, 86You 8, Nanjing 43, and Yangdao 6. The organ dimensions of rice aboveground were modelled taking corresponding organ biomass as an independent variable. Various variables in rice showed marked consistency in observation and simulation, suggesting possibilities for a general rice architectural model in the young seedling stage. Our descriptive model was suitable for our objective. However, they can set the stage for connection to physiological model via biomass and development of functional structural rice models (FSRM), and start with the localized production and partitioning of assimilates as affected by abiotic growth factors. 14Design and Implementation of a 3D Ocean Virtual Reality and Visualization Engine显示文摘In this study,a 3D virtual reality and visualization engine for rendering the ocean,named VV-Ocean,is designed for marine applications.The design goals of VV-Ocean aim at high fidelity simulation of ocean environment,visualization of massive and multidimensional marine data,and imitation of marine lives.VV-Ocean is composed of five modules,i.e.memory management module,resources management module,scene management module,rendering process management module and interaction management module.There are three core functions in VV-Ocean:reconstructing vivid virtual ocean scenes,visualizing real data dynamically in real time,imitating and simulating marine lives intuitively.Based on VV-Ocean,we establish a sea-land integration platform which can reproduce drifting and diffusion processes of oil spilling from sea bottom to surface.Environment factors such as ocean current and wind field have been considered in this simulation.On this platform oil spilling process can be abstracted as movements of abundant oil particles.The result shows that oil particles blend with water well and the platform meets the requirement for real-time and interactive rendering.VV-Ocean can be widely used in ocean applications such as demonstrating marine operations,facilitating maritime communications,developing ocean games,reducing marine hazards,forecasting the weather over oceans,serving marine tourism,and so on.Finally,further technological improvements of VV-Ocean are discussed.CHEN Ge LI Bo TIAN Fenglin JI Pengbo LI Wenqing 2012Journal of Ocean University of China2012,11,4:10

16Mycoplasma pneumoniae Macrolide Resistance and MLVA Typing in Children in Beijing,China,in 2016:Is It Relevant?显示文摘Objective The aim of this study is to investigate the macrolide resistance rate and molecular type with multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis(MLVA)of Mycoplasma pneumoniae of Beijing in 2016 in pediatric patients.Methods Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was used to identify M.pneumoniae,and MLVA was performed.The domain V of the 23 S rRNA was sequenced to detect macrolide-resistant point mutations.We also investigated the activities of antibiotics against M.pneumoniae isolates in vitro.Results The PCR detection rate of M.pneumoniae in children in Beijing was 40%,and the macrolide resistance rate was 66%.The A2063 G mutation in the 23 S rRNA V region is the dominant mutation(137/146,93.84%),whereas the A2064 G mutation is rare(9/146,6.16%).Seventy-three samples were typed successfully by MLVA typing,including 86.3%(63/73)were MLVA type 4-5-7-2,and 13.7%(10/73)were MLVA type 3-5-6-2.No other types were found.No strains were resistant to levofloxacin or tetracycline.Conclusion In 2016,a specific decrease in the macrolide resistance rate occurred in Beijing.The detection rate and macrolide resistance rate of outpatients are lower than those of inpatients.The A2063 G mutants M.pneumoniae have high levels of resistance to erythromycin and azithromycin.The primary MLVA type is 4-5-7-2,followed by 3-5-6-2.No other MLVA types were detected.No strains resistant to tetracycline or levofloxacin were found in vitro.DOU Hai Wei TIAN Xiu Jun XIN De Li WEI Ran ZHOU Wei WANG Hong QIN Xuan Guang SHAO Jun Yan XU Bao Ping GE Li Xia SHI Da Wei 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,12:9

18Distributed and Weighted Extreme Learning Machine for Imbalanced Big Data Learning显示文摘The Extreme Learning Machine(ELM) and its variants are effective in many machine learning applications such as Imbalanced Learning(IL) or Big Data(BD) learning. However, they are unable to solve both imbalanced and large-volume data learning problems. This study addresses the IL problem in BD applications. The Distributed and Weighted ELM(DW-ELM) algorithm is proposed, which is based on the Map Reduce framework. To confirm the feasibility of parallel computation, first, the fact that matrix multiplication operators are decomposable is illustrated.Then, to further improve the computational efficiency, an Improved DW-ELM algorithm(IDW-ELM) is developed using only one Map Reduce job. 19An investigation on micro pore structures and the vapor pressure mechanism of explosive spalling of RPC exposed to high temperature显示文摘Reactive powder concrete(RPC) is vulnerable to explosive spalling when exposed to high temperature.The characteristics of micro pore structure and vapor pressure of RPC are closely related to the thermal spalling.Applying mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) techniques,the authors probed the characteristics of micro pore structures of plain RPC200 when heated from 20-350℃.The pore characteristics such as specific pore volume,threshold pore size and most probable pore size varying with temperatures were investigated.A vapor pressure kit was developed to measure the vapor pressure and its variation inside RPC200 at various temperatures.A thin-wall spherical pore model was proposed to analyze the thermo-mechanical mechanism of spalling,by which the stresses varying with the vapor pressure q(T) and the characteristic size of wall(K) at any point of interest were determined.It is shown that the pore characteristics including specific pore volume,average pore size,threshold pore size and most probable pore size rise significantly with the increasing temperature.200℃ appears to be the threshold temperature above which the threshold pore size and the most probable pore size climb up dramatically.The increase in the specific pore volume results from the growth both in quantity and in volume of the transition pores and the capillary pores.The appearance of the explosive spalling in RPC200 is mainly attributed to being unable to form pathways in favor of releasing water steam in RPC and to the rapid accumulation of high vapor pressures as well.The thin-wall sphere domain where the vapor pressure governs the spalling is bounded through the pore model.JU Yang LIU HongBin TIAN KaiPei LIU JinHui WANG Li GE ZhiShun 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,2:8
20Characteristics of dissolved organic matter in lakes with different eutrophic levels in southeastern Hubei Province,China显示文摘Dissolved organic matter(DOM)plays a crucial role in both the carbon cycle and geochemical cycles of other nutrient elements,which is of importance to the management and protection of the aquatic environments.To achieve a more comprehensive understanding the characteristics of DOM in the Changjiang(Yangtze)River basin,water samples from four natural lakes(Xiandao,Baoan,Daye,and Qingshan)in southeastern Hubei Province in China with different eutrophication levels were collected and analyzed.The optical characteristics were analyzed using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry and excitation-emission matrix spectroscopy coupled with parallel factor analysis.The results show that:(1)two humic-like components(C1 and C2)and two protein-like substances(C3 and C4)of DOM were identified in all waterbodies;(2)C3 originated primarily from the degradation of microalgae and contributed substantially to humic-like components during transformation.C4 was widely present in the Changjiang River basin and its formation was related to microbial activity,rather than algal blooms or seasons.Influenced by the water mixing,the protein-like components were more likely to be transformed by microorganism,whereas humic-like components were more easily to be photobleached;(3)the concentration of DOM and the fluorescence intensity of humic-like components gradually increased with rising lake eutrophication levels.With respect to protein-like components,only C3 showed changes along the eutrophication gradients;(4)DOM showed a high affinity with permanganate index(COD Mn)and chlorophyll a(chl a)while the relationship was variable with phosphorus.This study helps us systematically understand the DOM characteristics,microbial activities,and pollutant transformation in the Changjiang River basin and provides reference to the ecological restoration of aquatic environments.Weixiang REN Xiaodong WU Xuguang GE Guiying LIN Mengdie ZHOU Zijie LONG Xinhui YU Wei TIAN 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,4:8
