| 1 | Energy saving potential of a fresh air pre-cooling system using radiative sky cooling显示文摘To achieve required indoor air quality,fresh air supply in buildings should meet relevant standards and regulations.However,the handling of fresh air introduced a cooling load that takes up a large portion of building energy consumption,especially in tropical and subtropical areas.A proper way should be employed to reduce the cooling load of fresh air.Radiative sky cooling,which is the process that an object cools itself by emitting thermal radiation to outer space without any energy input,is a cost-effective and eco-friendly technology.In this work,a fresh air pre-cooling system using radiative sky cooling is proposed to reduce fresh air cooling load.The system,consisting of filters,a radiative air-cooling system,an air handling unit(AHU),fans,etc.,is installed on the rooftop of the modeled building.Six cities in low-latitude areas are selected and investigated.Results show that with the radiative air-cooling system installed,annual cooling energy consumption of the modeled building can be reduced by around 10%in most cities.For arid areas,e.g.,Abu Dhabi,the system has even better performance with 19.34%annual cooling energy saving. | Dikai Xu Sebastien Boncoeur Gang Tan Jingtao Xu Hua Qian Dongliang Zhao | 2022 | Building Simulation2022,15,2: | 2 |
| 2 | Repeated Failure in Reward Pursuit Alters Innate Drosophila Larval Behaviors显示文摘Animals always seek rewards and the related neural basis has been well studied. However, what happens when animals fail to get a reward is largely unknown,although this is commonly seen in behaviors such as predation. Here, we set up a behavioral model of repeated failure in reward pursuit(RFRP) in Drosophila larvae. In this model, the larvae were repeatedly prevented from reaching attractants such as yeast and butyl acetate, before finally abandoning further attempts. After giving up, they usually showed a decreased locomotor speed and impaired performance in light avoidance and sugar preference,which were named as phenotypes of RFRP states. In larvae that had developed RFRP phenotypes, the octopamine concentration was greatly elevated, while tbh mutants devoid of octopamine were less likely to develop RFRP phenotypes, and octopamine feeding efficiently restored such defects. By down-regulating tbh in different groups of neurons and imaging neuronal activity, neurons that regulated the development of RFRP states and the behavioral exhibition of RFRP phenotypes were mapped to a small subgroup of non-glutamatergic and glutamatergic octopaminergic neurons in the central larval brain. | 7 | Martensitic twinning transformation mechanism in a metastable IVB element-based body-centered cubic high-entropy alloy with high strength and high work hardening rate显示文摘Realizing high work hardening and thus elevated strength–ductility synergy are prerequisites for the practical usage of body-centered-cubic high entropy alloys(BCC-HEAs).In this study,we report a novel dynamic strengthening mechanism,martensitic twinning transformation mechanism in a metastable refractory element-based BCC-HEA(TiZrHf)Ta(at.%)that can profoundly enhance the work hardening capability,leading to a large uniform ductility and high strength simultaneously.Different from conventional transformation induced plasticity(TRIP)and twinning induced plasticity(TWIP)strengthening mechanisms,the martensitic twinning transformation strengthening mechanism combines the best characteristics of both TRIP and TWIP strengthening mechanisms,which greatly alleviates the strengthductility trade-off that ubiquitously observed in BCC structural alloys.Microstructure characterization,carried out using X-ray diffraction(XRD)and electron back-scatter diffraction(EBSD)shows that,upon straining,α”(orthorhombic)martensite transformation,self-accommodation(SA)α”twinning and mechanicalα”twinning were activated sequentially.Transmission electron microscopy(TEM)analyses reveal that continuous twinning activation is inherited from nucleating mechanical{351}type I twins within SA“{351}”<■11>typeⅡtwinnedα”variants on{351}twinning plane by twinning transformation through simple shear,thereby accommodating the excessive plastic strain through the twinning shear while concurrently refining the grain structure.Consequently,consistent high work hardening rates of 2–12.5 GPa were achieved during the entire plastic deformation,leading to a high tensile strength of 1.3 GPa and uniform elongation of 24%.Alloy development guidelines for activating such martensitic twinning transformation strengthening mechanism were proposed,which could be important in developing new BCC-HEAs with optimal mechanical performance. | Yuhe Huang Junheng Gao Vassili Vorontsov Dikai Guan Russell Goodall David Dye Shuize Wang Qiang Zhu W.Mark Rainforth Iain Todd | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,29: | 1 |
| 8 | Energy saving analysis of a transparent radiative cooling film for buildings with roof glazing显示文摘A transparent radiative cooling(T-RC)film with low transmittance in solar spectra and selectively high emissivity in the atmospheric window(8-13��m)is applied on roof glazing for building energy saving.To evaluate the per-formance of the T-RC film,two identical model boxes(1.0 m×0.6 m×1.2 m,L×W×H)were constructed and the inside air temperatures were measured in August in Ningbo,China.Results show that the maximum temperature difference between the two model boxes with and without the T-RC film was 21.6℃during the experiment.A whole building model was built in EnergyPlus for the model box.With a good agreement achieved between the calculation results and the measured temperature data,the experimentally validated EnergyPlus model was then extended to an 815.1 m^(2)exhibition building with roof glazing to analyze the annual air conditioning(AC)energy consumption.The results show that by incorporating both the T-RC film’s cooling benefit in summer and heating penalty in winter,the annual AC energy consumption of the exhibition building can be reduced by 40.9-63.4%,varying with different climate conditions. | Zhitong Yi Yingyan lv Dikai Xu Jingtao Xu Hua Qian Dongliang Zhao Ronggui Yang | 2021 | Energy and Built Environment2021,2,2: | 1 |
| 9 | Electrochromism-induced adaptive fresh air pre-handling system for building energy saving显示文摘Building fresh air supply needs to meet certain regulations and fit people’s ever-growing indoor air quality de-mand.However,fresh air handling requires huge energy consumption that goes against the goal of net-zero energy buildings.Thus,in this work,an adaptive fresh air pre-handling system is designed to reduce the cool-ing and heating loads of HVAC system.The sky-facing surface of the system uses electrochromic mechanism to manipulate the optical properties and thus make full use of solar energy(solar heating)and deep space cold source(radiative cooling)by switching between heating and cooling modes.In the cooling mode,the sky-facing surface shows a transmittance of down to zero,while the reflectance is high at 0.89 on average.In the heating mode,the electrochromic glass is highly transparent,allowing the sunlight to reach the solar heat absorber.To obtain the energy-saving potential under different climates,six cities were selected from various climate regions in China.Results show that the adaptive fresh air pre-handling system can be effective in up to 55.4%time of a year.The maximum energy-saving ratios for medium office,warehouse,and single-family house can reach up to 11.52%,26.62%,and 18.29%,respectively.In addition,the system shows multi-climate adaptability and broad application scenarios,making it a potential solution to building energy saving. | Dikai Xu Mingfeng Sheng Xinpeng Zhao Hua Qian Wenqing Liang Xiaohong Zheng Dongliang Zhao | 2024 | Energy and Built Environment2024,5,2: | 0 |
| 10 | Safety monitoring and stability analysis of left abutment slope of Jinping Ⅰ hydropower station显示文摘Safety monitoring and stability analysis of high slopes are important for high dam construction in high mountainous regions or precipitous gorges. In this paper, deformation characteristics of toppling block at upper abutment, deforming tensile rip wedge in the middle part and deep fractures are comprehensively analyzed based on the geological conditions, construction methods and monitoring results of left abutment slope in Jinping I hydropower station. Safety analyses of surface and shallow-buried rock masses and the corresponding anchorage system are presented. The monitoring results indicate that the global stability of the large wedge block in the left abutment is effectively under control, and the abutment slope is stable in a global sense. After the completion of excavation, the deformations of toppling block at the top of the slope and deep fracture zone continue at a very low rate, which can be explained as 'rock mass creep'.
