| 1 | Enhanced RuBisCO activity and promoted dicotyledons growth with degradable carbon dots显示文摘The ~ 5 nm degradable carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized directly from carbon rod by a one-step electrochemical method at room temperature.The as-prepared CDs can effectively enhance the ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase (RuBisCO) activity,and then promote the dicotyledons growth (soybean,tomato,eggplant and so on) and finally increase their yields.Here,we used Arabidopsis thaliana and Trifolium repens L.as model plants to systematically study the beneficial effects of CDs on plant growth.These include:(i) accelerating seed germination;(ii) enlarging root elongation;(iii) increasing metal ions absorption and delivery;(iv) improving enzymes activity;(v) enhancing the carbohydrate content;(vi) degradation into plant hormone analogues and CO2;and finally (vii) enhancing the grain production by about 20%. | Hao Li Jian Huang Yang Liu Fang Lu Jun Zhong Yong Wang Shuiming Li Yeshayahu Lifshitz Shuit-Tong Lee Zhenhui Kang | 2019 | Nano Research2019,12,7: | 8 |
| 2 | Endoscopic submucosal dissection vs endoscopic mucosal resection for colorectal polyps:A meta-analysis and metaregression with single arm analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)has shown to be effective in management of colorectal neoplasm in the Asian countries,while its implementation in Western countries where endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)is preferred is still debatable.AIM To compare the surgical,histological,and oncological outcomes between ESD and EMR in the treatment of colorectal polyps,with subgroup analysis comparing the efficacy of ESD and EMR between Japan and the rest of the world.METHODS Embase and Medline databases were searched from inception to October 2020 in accordance with PRISMA guidelines for studies comparing en bloc,complete resection,margin involvement,resection time,need for additional surgery,complications,and recurrence rate of ESD with EMR.RESULTS Of 281344 colorectal polyps from 21 studies were included.When compared to EMR,the pooled analysis revealed ESD was associated with higher en bloc and complete resection rate,and lower lateral margin involvement and recurrence.ESD led to increased procedural time,need for additional surgery,and perforation risk.No significant difference in bleeding risk was found between the two groups.Meta-regression analysis suggested only right colonic polyps correlated with an increased perforation risk in ESD.Confounders including polyp size and invasion depth did not significantly influence the en bloc and complete resection rate,bleeding risk and recurrence.In subgroup analysis,Japan performed better than the rest of the world in both ESD and EMR with perforation risk of 4%and 0.0002%,respectively,as compared to perforation risk of 8%and 1%,respectively,in reports coming from rest of the world.CONCLUSION ESD resulted in better resection outcomes and lower recurrence compared to EMR.With appropriate training,ESD is preferred over EMR as the first-line therapy for resection of colorectal polyps,without restricting to lesions greater than 20 mm and those with high suspicion of submucosal invasion. | Xiong Chang Lim Kameswara Rishi Yeshayahu Nistala Cheng Han Ng Snow Yunni Lin Darren Jun Hao Tan Khek-Yu Ho Choon-Seng Chong Mark Muthiah | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,25: | 4 |

| 20 | Protein kinase A inhibition induces EPAC-dependent acrosomal exocytosis in human sperm显示文摘To in teract with the egg, the spermatozo on must un dergo several biochemical and motility modifications in the female reproductive tract, collectively called capacitation. Only capacitated sperm can undergo acrosomal exocytosis, near or on the egg, a process that allows the sperm to penetrate and fertilize the egg. In the present study, we investigated the invoIvement of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent processes on acrosomal exocytosis. Inhibition of protein kinase A (PKA) at the end of capacitation induced acrosomal exocytosis. This process is cAMP-dependent;however, the addition of relatively high concentration of the membrane-permeable 8-bromo-cAMP (8Br-cAMP, 0.1 mmol l^-1) analog induced significant inhibition of the acrosomal exocytosis. The induction of acrosomal exocytosis by PKA inhibition was significantly inhibited by an exchange protein directly activated by cAMP (EPAC) ESI09 inhibitor. The EPAC selective substrate activated AE at relatively low concentrations (0.02-0.1 μmol l^1), whereas higher concerttrations (>5 pmol l^-1) were inhibitory to the AE induced by PKA inhibition. Inhibition of PKA revealed about 50% increase in intracellular cAMP levels, conditions under which EPAC can be activated to induce the AE. Induction of AE by activating the actin severing?protein, gelsolin, which causes F-actin dispersion, was inhibited by the EPAC inhibitor. The AE induced by PKA inhibition was mediated by phospholipase C activity but not by the Ca^2+-channel, CatSper. Thus, inhibition of PKA at the end of the capacitation process induced EPAC/phospholipase C-dependent acrosomal exocytosis.
