1Chemical composition, mass closure and sources of atmospheric PM_(10) from industrial sites in Shenzhen, China显示文摘Concentrations of atmospheric PM10 and chemical components (including twenty-one elements, nine ions, organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC)) were measured at five sites in a heavily industrial region of Shenzhen, China in 2005. Results showed that PM10 concentrations exhibited the highest values at 264 μg/m3 at the site near a harbor with the influence of harbor activities. Sulfur exhibited the highest concentrations (from 2419 to 3995 ng/m3) of all the studied elements, which may be related to the influence of coal used as fuel in this area for industrial plants. This was verified by the high mass percentages of SO42-, which accounted for 34.3%-39.7% of the total ions. NO3-/SO42- ratios varied from 0.64-0.71, which implies coal combustion was predominant compared with vehicle emission. The anion/cation ratios range was close to 0.95, indicating anion deficiency in this region. The harbor site showed the highest OC and EC concentrations, with the influence of emission from vessels. Secondary organic carbon accounted for about 22.6%-38.7% of OC, with the highest percentage occurring at the site adjacent to a coal-fired power plant and wood plant. The mass closure model performed well in this heavily industrial region, with significant correlation obtained between chemically determined and gravimetrically measured PM10 mass. The main constituents of PM10 were found to be organic materials (30.9%-69.5%), followed by secondary inorganic aerosol (7.9%-25.0%), crustal materials (6.7%-13.8%), elemental carbon (3.5%-10.8%), sea salt (2.4%-6.2%) and trace elements (2.0%-4.9%) in this heavily industrialized region. 2Variations in leaf characteristics of three species of angiosperms with changing of altitude in Qilian Mountains and their inland high-altitude pattern显示文摘In this study,39 leaf samples of three angiosperms(Betula albo-sinensis,tree species;and Caragana jubata and Berberis diaphana,shrub species) were collected in the middle-east parts at 2300–3640 m asl of the Qilian Mountains to study the variations of leaf characteristics of angiosperms with altitude change in inland high-altitude regions of China.Five leaf indexes,viz.epidermal cell density(ED),stomatal density(SD),stomatal index(SI),leaf vein density(VD) and carbon isotopic ratio(δ13C),were analyzed in laboratory.The results show that there are significant or even very significant linear correlations between the five indexes and altitude,of which SD,SI and VD exhibit a negative correlation with altitude,while ED and δ13C exhibit a positive correlation with altitude.Such a correlation assemblage is quite different from the situation in the low-altitude humid environment.Generally,only an assemblage of positive correlations can be observed between the indexes(viz.SD,SI and δ13C,etc.) and the altitude in the low-altitude humid environment,which were caused mainly by the plants' responses to the change of atmospheric CO2 concentration(Cα).However,an assemblage of the negative and positive correlations found here may be attributed mainly to the plants' responses to the change of physiological drought caused by change of low temperature,and here it is preliminarily called the inland high-altitude pattern of plant leaf variations.WANG XueFang LI RuiYun LI XiaoZe MA FuJun SUN BaiNian WU JingYu WANG YouKui 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4:8
3Largest Toothed Pterosaur Skull from the Early Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Western Liaoning, China, with Comments on the Family Boreopteridae显示文摘A new pterosaur Moganopterus zhuiana gen. et sp. nov. is erected based on a complete skull with lower jaws and anterior cervical vertebrae. It is characterized by much elongated upper and lower jaws with at least 62 total, long, curved teeth with sharp tips, a well developed parietal crest extending posterodorsally, forming an angle of 15 degrees with the ventral margin of the skull, the ratio of length to width of cervical vertebrae greater than 5:1. The skull length is 750 mm, and it is the largest toothed pterosaur found so far in the world. 4Three Tiaobu Feishen therapies protect human alveolar epithelial cells against cigarette smoking and tumor necrosis factor-mlear factor-kappa B pathwayα-induced inflamation by nuc显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of Tiaobu Feishen formulae(TBFS), including Bufei Jianpi formula(BJF), Bufei Yishen formula(BYF), and Yiqi Zishen formula(YZF), on inflammatory response, protease-anti-protease imbalance and collagen deposition in rats.METHODS: In present work, we used an in vitro model of cigarette smoking extract(CSE)-and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)-induced A549 cellsto examine the efficacy of BJF, BYF and YZF on the production of inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α and interleukin(IL)-8, IL-6, matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)-9, and IL-10 in CSE or TNF-ls. And their related transcripα-induced A549 celtion factors and signaling pathway were also analyzed.RESULTS: The results showed that BJF, BYF and YZF could significantly decrease the expression levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by CSE or TNF-α. Furthermore, BJF, BYF and YZF could suppress CSE-or TNF-α-induced activation of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB) transcription factors and its corresponding pathways. Taken together, these data implied that BJF, BYF and YZF effectively inhibited CSE-or TNF-α-induced inflammatory response in alveolar epithelial cell, which was due to their inhibition effect on NF-κB pathways.CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that the Tiaobu Feishen therapies may protect human alveolar epithelial cells against cigarette smoking and TNF-α-induced inflammation. 5Prospect of China's ambient air quality standards显示文摘Ambient air quality standards are the core strategic goal of ambient air quality management.Countries worldwide have given importance to research on the development of ambient air quality standards.To understand the history of the development of China’s ambient air quality standards,this study analyzed the background associated with all previous formulations and revisions of the standards,classification of functional areas,standard grading,pollutants,and evolution of the standard limits over the past 40 years.The results show that since the initial release of the“Ambient Air Quality Standard”by China in 1982,it has been supplemented once,revised twice,and modified twice.The first ambient air quality standard specified the standard limits of six pollutants commonly found in ambient air.With the development of ambient air quality management,the number of pollutants has increased to ten.Since the release of the“Ambient Air Quality Standards”in 2012,the ambient air quality in China has significantly improved.However,the proportion of cities meeting these standards is still low.At present,China is suitably positioned to make the standards associated with 24 hr SO2concentrations more stringent such that it meets the values defined in the World Health Organization(WHO)interim target-2 and the WHO air quality guideline(AQG).We further suggested that the SO2standard should be revised promptly.Simultaneously,regions with a relatively high proportion of cities meeting the standard are encouraged to introduce more stringent interim target limits in due course to manage the local ambient air quality.Zongshuang Wang Yufei Tan Min Guo Miaomiao Cheng Yanyue Gu Siyu Chen Xuefang Wu Fahe Chai 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,1:2
6Comparison of inorganic chemical compositions of atmospheric TSP,PM10 and PM2.5 in northern and southern Chinese coastal cities显示文摘To compare the inorganic chemical compositions of TSP(total suspended paniculate),PM_(10)(particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 10 μm) and PM_(2.5)(particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm) in southern and northern cities in China,atmospheric particles were synchronously collected in Dalian(the northern city)and Xiamen(the southern city) in spring and autumn of 2004.The mass concentrations,twenty-three elements and nine soluble ions were assessed.The results show that in Dalian,the mass concentrations of Mg,Al,Ca,Mn and Fe in spring were 4.0-10.1,2.6-8.0,4.1-12,1.2-3.6 and 2.9-7.9 times higher,respectively,than those in Xiamen.The dust storm influence is more obvious in Dalian in spring.However,in Xiamen,heavy metals accounted for 13.9%-17.9%of TSP,while heavy metals contributed to 5.5%-9.3%of TSP in Dalian.These concentrations suggest that heavy metal pollution in Xiamen was more serious.In addition,the concentrations of Na^+,Cl^-,Ca^(2+) and Mg^(2+) were higher in Dalian due to the influence of marine aerosol,construction activities and soil dust.The NO^(3-)/SO_4^(2-) ratios in Dalian(0.25-0.49) were lower than those in Xiamen(0.51-0.62),indicating that the contributions of vehicle emission to particles in Xiamen were higher.Coefficient of divergence values was higher than 0.40,implying that the inorganic chemical composition profiles for the particles of Dalian and Xiamen were quite different from each other.Yiding Ma Zongshuang Wang Yufei Tan Shu Xu Shaofei Kong Gang Wu Xuefang Wu Hong Li 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,5:2

10Experimental simulation of the relative contribution of volatile-N and char-N to NO_X formation from a low-capacity bituminous coal-fired industrial boiler显示文摘The conversion of fuel-N to NOx is the main contribution of NOx from coal-fired industrial boilers and is the least-studied modelling problem arising from coal combustion. This paper summarises the current understanding of the mechanisms that account for the formation of NOx from fuel-N during coal combustion. Further experimentation on NOx emissions during bituminous coal combustion was simulated with attention focused on the contribution of char-N and volatile-N to fuel-NOx through the Coal/Char combustion method. The critical analysis of this issue allowed for the identification of uncertainties and produced well-founded conclusions. The results indicated that fuel-NOx formation was a very complex physical-chemical process involving many competing mechanisms. These mechanisms included chemical reactions, convective mass transfer, heat transfer, adsorption and desorption. The contribution of char-N in this experiment varied between 30% and 70%. There may be a slight question as to the exact identity of the main contributor to fuel-NOx , and no definitive conclusion can be made as of yet. This uncertainty is because the contribution of char-N to fuel-NO x was heavily affected by the combustion conditions and the contribution of char-N increased monotonically as temperature increased. There was a critical point in the relationship between particle size, air flow, O2 concentration and the contribution of char-N. The contribution of char-N increased with the increase of particle size and air flow initially when less than the critical value, and decreased when more than thecritical value. 11Dynamic emission characteristics and control strategies of air pollutants from motor vehicles in downtown Beijing,China显示文摘This study combined the real-time monitoring and investigation of traffic flows to comprehensively analyze the road traffic flow and vehicle structure in downtown Beijing.A dynamic emission inventory of motor vehicle air pollutants in downtown Beijing in 2021 was established,and the impact of these emissions on air quality was simulated and quantified,and different emission reduction control scenarios were proposed to evaluate their environmental improvement effects and explore measures to mitigate the impact of pollution emissions.The results show that the high traffic flow and the structure of the motor vehicle emissions in downtown Beijing are the main causes of severe motor vehicle pollution.Monitoring data shows that traffic flow in central Beijing is dominated by small passenger vehicles,while the vehicle mix is better than in other regions,with 72.0%of vehicles meeting'National V'or higher emission standards.However,to achieve higher air quality goals,further reducing vehicle emissions is necessary.Based on dynamic traffic flow,the average daily emissions of nitrogen oxides(NOX),particulate matters(PM_(2.5))and volatile organic compounds(VOC)from motor vehicles in central Beijing are 17.7 tons,0.6 tons and 14.0 tons,respectively,accounting for 23.0%of the city’s average daily motor vehicle emissions.If a zero-emission zone for motor vehicles were implemented in central Beijing,the annual average emission level of pollutants will be reduced by 10.4%to 21.0%.The designation of ultra-low emission zones for motor vehicles could be effective in improving the air quality in the center of Beijing.Yan Shen Tongran Wu Aiping Lian Jie Gao Fei Peng Guohua Song Xuefang Wu Yangyang Cui Xinyu Liu Yunfei Wan Jing Yan Yifeng Xue 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,2:0
12Tiaobu Feishen therapy inhibits inflammation induced by cigarette smoke extracts in a human monocyte/macrophage cell line显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To study the mechanistic effects of Tiaobu Feishen therapy(TBFS) on inflammation induced by cigarette smoke extract(CSE) in a human monocyte/macrophage cell line.METHODS: The human monocyte/macrophage cell line THP-1 was stimulated with 10% CSE in the presence or absence of Bufei Yishen formula(BYF),Bufei Jianpi formula(BJF) and Yiqi Zishen formula(YZF). All formulations contained serum. Pro-inflammatory cytokines were measured in the supernatants using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.The activity of STAT3 DNA binding was detected using electrophoretic mobility shift assay and janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK/STAT) pathway activation was assessed using Western blotting.RESULTS: The results showed that BYF, BJF and YZF treatment strongly decreased the CSE-induced secretion of interleukin(IL)-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-α and matrix metalloproteinase-9 by THP-1 cells. 13Three Tiaobu Feishen formulae reduces cigarette smoke-induced inflammation in human airway epithelial cells显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of Tiaobu Feishen formulae(TBFS) on cigarette smoke-induced inflammation in vitro using lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced and cigarette smoke extract(CSE)-induced NCI-H292 cells.METHODS: We evaluated the inhibitory effects of Bufei Jianpi formula(BJF), Bufei Yishen formula(BYF), and Yiqi Zishen formula(YZF) on the expressions of inflammatory cytokines including tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and interleukin(IL)-8, matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-9, tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloprotease(TIMP)-1, and superoxide dismutase(SOD) in H292 cells stimulated with LPS or CSE. 14Diversity and independent evolutionary profiling of rodent-borne viruses in Hainan,a tropical island of China显示文摘The risk of emerging infectious diseases(EID)is increasing globally.More than 60%of EIDs worldwide are caused by animal-borne pathogens.This study aimed to characterize the virome,analyze the phylogenetic evolution,and determine the diversity of rodent-borne viruses in Hainan Province,China.We collected 682 anal and throat samples from rodents,combined them into 28 pools according to their species and location,and processed them for next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.The diverse viral contigs closely related to mammals were assigned to 22 viral families.Molecular clues of the important rodent-borne viruses were further identified by polymerase chain reaction for phylogenetic analysis and annotation of genetic characteristics such as arenavirus,coronavirus,astrovirus,pestivirus,parvovirus,and papillomavirus.We identified pestivirus and bocavirus in Leopoldoms edwardsi from Huangjinjiaoling,and bocavirus in Rattus andamanensis from the national nature reserves of Bangxi with low amino acid identity to known pathogens are proposed as the novel species,and their rodent hosts have not been previously reported to carry these viruses.These results expand our knowledge of viral classification and host range and suggest that there are highly diverse,undiscovered viruses that have evolved independently in their unique wildlife hosts in inaccessible areas.Youyou Li Chuanning Tang Yun Zhang Zihan Li Gaoyu Wang Ruoyan Peng Yi Huang Xiaoyuan Hu Henan Xin Boxuan Feng Xuefang Cao Yongpeng He Tonglei Guo Yijun He Haoxiang Su Xiuji Cui Lina Niu Zhiqiang Wu Jian Yang Fan Yang Gang Lu Lei Gao Qi Jin Meifang Xiao Feifei Yin Jiang Du 2023Virologica Sinica2023,38,5:0
15The correlation of miRNA expression and tumor mutational burden in uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma显示文摘Background:The relationship between microRNA(miRNA)expression patterns and tumor mutation burden(TMB)in uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma(UCEC)was investigated in this study.Methods:The UCEC dataset from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)database was used to identify the miRNAs that differ in expression between high TMB and low TMB sample sets.The total sample sets were divided into a training set and a test set.TMB levels were predicted using miRNA-based signature classifiers developed by Lasso Cox regression.Test sets were used to validate the classifier.This study investigated the relationship between a miRNA-based signature classifier and three immune checkpoint molecules(programmed cell death protein 1[PD-1],programmed cell death ligand 1[PD-L1],cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4[CTLA-4]).For the miRNA-based signature classifier,functional enrichment analysis was performed on the miRNAs.An analysis of the relationship between PD-1,PD-L1,and CTLA-4 immune checkpoint genes was carried out using the miRNA-based signature classifier.Results:We identified 27 differentially expressed miRNAs in miRNA-base signature.For predicting the TMB level,27-miRNA-based signature classifiers had accuracies of 0.8689 in the training cohort,0.8276 in the test cohort,and 0.8524 in the total cohort.The correlation between the miRNA-based signature classifier and PD-1 was negative,while the correlation between PD-L1 and CTLA4 was positive.Based on the miRNA profiling described above,we validated the expression levels of 9 miRNAs in clinical samples by quantitative reverse transcription PCR(qRT-PCR).Four of them were highly expressed and many cancer-related and immune-associated biological processes were linked to these 27 miRNAs.Thus,the developed miRNA-based signature classifier was correlated with TMB levels that could also predict TMB levels in UCEC samples.Conclusion:In this study,we investigated the relationship between a miRNAbased signature classifier and TMB levels in Uterine Corpus Endometrial Carcinoma.Further,this is the first study to confirm their relationship in clinical samples,which may provide more evidence support for immunotherapy of endometrial cancer.YANYA CHEN HONGYUAN WU RUISI ZHOU HELING DONG XUEFANG ZHANG XUEWEI WU WENSHAN CHEN YANTING YOU YIFEN WU 2023BIOCELL2023,47,6:0
