| 2 | China Stroke Statistics 2019:A Report From the National Center for Healthcare Quality Management in Neurological Diseases,China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases,the Chinese Stroke Association,National Center for Chronic and Non-communicable Disease Control and Prevention,Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Institute for Global Neuroscience and Stroke Collaborations显示文摘China faces the greatest challenge from stroke in the world.The death rate for cerebrovascular diseases in China was 149.49 per 100000,accounting for 1.57 million deaths in 2018.It ranked third among the leading causes of death behind malignant tumours and heart disease.The age-standardised prevalence and incidence of stroke in 2013 were 1114.8 per 100000 population and 246.8 per 100000 person-years,respectively.According to the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017,the years of life lost(YLLs)per 100000 population for stroke increased by 14.6%;YLLs due to stroke rose from third highest among all causes in 1990 to the highest in 2017.The absolute numbers and rates per 100000 population for all-age disability-adjusted life years(DALYs)for stroke increased substantially between 1990 and 2017,and stroke was the leading cause of all-age DALYs in 2017.The main contributors to cerebrovascular diseases include behavioural risk factors(smoking and alcohol use)and pre-existing conditions(hypertension,diabetes mellitus,dyslipidaemia and atrial fibrillation(AF)).The most prevalent risk factors among stroke survivors were hypertension(63.0%-84.2%)and smoking(31.7%-47.6%).The least prevalent was AF(2.7%-7.4%).The prevalences for major risk factors for stroke are high and most have increased over time.Based on the latest national epidemiological data,26.6%of adults aged≥15 years(307.6 million adults)smoked tobacco products.For those aged≥18 years,age-adjusted prevalence of hypertension was 25.2%;adjusted prevalence of hypercholesterolaemia was 5.8%;and the standardised prevalence of diabetes was 10.9%.For those aged≥40 years,the standardised prevalence of AF was 2.31%.Data from the Hospital Quality Monitoring System showed that 3010204 inpatients with stroke were admitted to 1853 tertiary care hospitals during 2018.Of those,2466785(81.9%)were ischaemic strokes(ISs);447609(14.9%)were intracerebral haemorrhages(ICHs);and 95810(3.2%)were subarachnoid haemorrhages(SAHs).The average age of patients admitted was 66 years old,and nearly 60%were male.A total of 1555(0.1%),2774(0.6%)and 1347(1.4%)paediatric strokes(age<18 years)were identified among IS,ICH and SAH,respectively.Over one-third(1063892(35.3%))of the patients were covered by urban resident basic medical insurance,followed by urban employee basic medical insurance(699513(23.2%))and new rural cooperative medical schema(489361(16.3%)).The leading risk factor was hypertension(67.4%for IS,77.2%for ICH and 49.1%for SAH),and the leading comorbidity was pneumonia or pulmonary infection(10.1%for IS,31.4%for ICH and 25.2%for SAH).In-hospital death/discharge against medical advice rate was 8.3%for stroke inpatients,ranging from 5.8%for IS to 19.5%for ICH.The median and IQR of length of stay was 10.0(7.0-14.0)days,ranging from 10.0(7.0-13.0)in IS to 14.0(8.0-22.0)in SAH.Data from the Chinese Stroke Center Alliance demonstrated that the composite scores of guideline-recommended key performance indicators for patients with IS,ICH and SAH were 0.77±0.21,0.72±0.28 and 0.59±0.32,respectively. | Yong-Jun Wang Zi-Xiao Li Hong-Qiu Gu Yi Zhai Yong Jiang Xing-Quan Zhao Yi-Long Wang Xin Yang Chun-Juan Wang Xia Meng Hao Li Li-Ping Liu Jing Jing Jing Wu An-Ding Xu Qiang Dong David Wang Ji-Zong Zhao On behalf of China Stroke Statistics 2019 Writing Committee | 2020 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,3: | 181 |
| 3 | Cancer statistics in China and United States,2022:profiles,trends,and determinants显示文摘Background:The cancer burden in the United States of America(USA)has decreased gradually.However,China is experiencing a transition in its cancer profiles,with greater incidence of cancers that were previously more common in the USA.This study compared the latest cancer profiles,trends,and determinants between China and USA.Methods:This was a comparative study using open-source data.Cancer cases and deaths in 2022 were calculated using cancer estimates from GLOBOCAN 2020 and population estimates from the United Nations.Trends in cancer incidence and mortality rates in the USA used data from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results program and National Center for Health Statistics.Chinese data were obtained from cancer registry reports.Data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 and a decomposition method were used to express cancer deaths as the product of four determinant factors.Results:In 2022,there will be approximately 4,820,000 and 2,370,000 new cancer cases,and 3,210,000 and 640,000 cancer deaths in China and the USA,respectively.The most common cancers are lung cancer in China and breast cancer in the USA,and lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both.Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates for lung cancer and colorectal cancer in the USA have decreased significantly recently,but rates of liver cancer have increased slightly.Rates of stomach,liver,and esophageal cancer decreased gradually in China,but rates have increased for colorectal cancer in the whole population,prostate cancer in men,and other seven cancer types in women.Increases in adult population size and population aging were major determinants for incremental cancer deaths,and case-fatality rates contributed to reduced cancer deaths in both countries.Conclusions:The decreasing cancer burden in liver,stomach,and esophagus,and increasing burden in lung,colorectum,breast,and prostate,mean that cancer profiles in China and the USA are converging.Population aging is a growing determinant of incremental cancer burden.Progress in cancer prevention and care in the USA,and measures to actively respond to population aging,may help China to reduce the cancer burden. | Changfa Xia Xuesi Dong He Li Maomao Cao Dianqin Sun Siyi He Fan Yang Xinxin Yan Shaoli Zhang Ni Li Wanqing Chen | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,5: | 827 |

It is common in children and adolescents, accounting for 1% to 2% of emergency department visits.Recurrent syncope can seriously affect children's physical and mental health, learning ability and quality of life and sometimes cardiac syncope even poses a risk of sudden death. The present guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was developed for guiding a better clinical management of pediatric syncope. | 5 | Mesenchymal stem cells derived from human placenta suppress allogeneic umbilical cord blood lymphocyte proliferation显示文摘ABSTRACTHuman placenta-derived mononuclear cells (MNC) were isolated by a Percoll density gradient and cultured in mesen-chymal stem cell (MSC) maintenance medium. The homogenous layer of adherent cells exhibited a typical fibroblast-like morphology, a large expansive potential, and cell cycle characteristics including a subset of quiescent cells. In vitrodifferentiation assays showed the tripotential differentiation capacity of these cells toward adipogenic, osteogenic andchondrogenic lineages. Flow cytometry analyses and immunocytochemistry stain showed that placental MSC was ahomogeneous cell population devoid of hematopoietic cells, which uniformly expressed CD29, CD44, CD73, CD105,CD166, laminin, fibronectin and vimentin while being negative for expression of CD31, CD34, CD45 and α-smoothmuscle actin. Most importantly, immuno-phenotypic analyses demonstrated that these cells expressed class I majorhistocompatibility complex (MHC-I), but they did not express MHC-II molecules. Additionally these cells could sup-press umbilical cord blood (UCB) lymphocytes proliferation induced by cellular or nonspecific mitogenic stimuli. Thisstrongly implies that they may have potential application in allograft transplantation. | 6 | Analysis of risk factors for postoperative pancreatic fistula following pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘AIM:To explore the morbidity and risk factors of postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)following pancreaticoduodenectomy.METHODS:The data from 196 consecutive patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy,performed by different surgeons,in the General Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army between January 1st,2013and December 31st,2013 were retrospectively collected for analysis.The diagnoses of POPF and clinically relevant(CR)-POPF following pancreaticoduodenectomy were judged strictly by the International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula Definition.Univariate analysis was performed to analyze the following factors:patient age,sex,body mass index(BMI),hypertension,diabetes mellitus,serum CA19-9 level,history of jaundice,serum albumin level,blood loss volume,pancreatic duct diameter,pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy,pancreatic drainage and pancreaticojejunostomy.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the main independent risk factors for POPF.RESULTS:POPF occurred in 126(64.3%)of the patients,and the incidence of CR-POPF was 32.7%(64/196).Patient characteristics of age,sex,BMI,hypertension,diabetes mellitus,serum CA19-9 level,history of jaundice,serum albumin level,blood loss volume,pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy and pancreaticojejunostomy showed no statistical difference related to the morbidity of POPF or CR-POPF.Pancreatic duct diameter was found to be significantly correlated with POPF rates by univariate analysis and multivariate regression analysis,with a pancreatic duct diameter≤3 mm being an independent risk factor for POPF(OR=0.291;P=0.000)and CR-POPF(OR=0.399;P=0.004).The CR-POPF rate was higher in patients without external pancreatic stenting,which was found to be an independent risk factor for CR-POPF(OR=0.394;P=0.012).Among the entire patient series,there were three postoperative deaths,giving a total mortality rate of 1.5%(3/196),and the mortality associated with pancreatic fistula was 2.4%(3/126).CONCLUSION:A pancreatic duct diameter≤3 mm is an independent risk factor for POPF.External stent drainage of pancreatic secretion may reduce CR-POPF mortality and POPF severity. | Qi-Yu Liu Wen-Zhi Zhang Hong-Tian Xia Jian-Jun Leng Tao Wan Bin Liang Tao Yang Jia-Hong Dong | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,46: | 32 |

| 10 | Histological Subtypes of Lung Cancer in Chinese Males from 2000 to 2012显示文摘Objective To characterize the histological and epidemiological features of male lung cancer patients in China. Methods The demographic and histological information about male lung cancer patients identified from 2000-01-01 to 2012-12-31,was collected from the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Relative frequencies(RF) were estimated for major histological subtypes and compared according to the years of diagnosis and birth. Results The RF of adenocarcinoma(ADC) increased from 21.96% to 43.36% and the RF of squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) decreased from 39.11% to 32.23% from 2000 to 2012 in the 15 427 male lung cancer patients included in this study(Z=17.909,P<0.0001; Z=-6.117,P<0.0001). The RF of ADC increased from 28.72% in 2000-2004,36.88% in 2005-2008 to 48.61% in 2009-2012 in patients born after 1960. The age-adjusted RF of ADC in 2007-2012 increased consistently in all the investigated areas. Conclusion The increased RF of ADC in male lung cancer patients highlights the need for further investigation of the etiologic factors of these tumors. | 11 | Formation mechanisms of megadunes and lakes in the Badain Jaran Desert,Inner Mongolia显示文摘Field observations demonstrate that calc-sinters occurred in the lakes of Badain Jaran Desert. 87Sr/86Sr ratios,14C,δ 13C and mineral com-positions of calc-sinters,and 3He/4He,4He/20Ne,δ 18O,δ D,pH and TDS of water from springs and lakes are analyzed in detail. The results indicate that the lake water is supplied through deep fault zone. The “ker-nel” of stabilized dunes in the Badain Jaran Desert perhaps consists of calc-sinters and calcareous ce-mentation layers. Deep-seated groundwater effuses from this “kernel” and recharges to lakes in desert. Precipitation and snowmelt water from the Qing-hai-Tibet Plateau is fed into the Badain Jaran Desert,Gurinai,Wentougaole and Ejinqi areas through the Xigaze-Langshan Fault zone. The isotopic composi-tions of groundwater in the Alax Plateau are abnor-mal due to the strong evaporation of the Gyaring and Ngoring lake water in the headstream of the Yellow River. Groundwater dissolves dissoluble fractions of rocks during its transportation through the fault zone and flows out of the mouth of spring in the Badan Jaran Desert. The dissoluble fractions are finally de-veloped into calc-sinters and calcareous cementation layers around the spring. Calci-sinters are gradually largened and eventually emerge on the surface of lake water. Eolian sands accumulate on the surfaces of calc-sinters and calcareous cementation layers,and eventually develop into dunes. Invasion of magma causes an increase in the temperature of groundwater within the faults. Groundwater evapora-tion provides water vapor for the formation of humid stabilized dunes during its upwelling. Rhizoconcre-tions found in Yihejigede indicate that the dune was formed and remained immovable 4700 years ago. | 12 | Preliminary results of environmental monitoring of the natural gas hydrate production test in the South China Sea显示文摘Natural gas hydrate (NGH)is considered as one of the new clean energy sources of the 21st century with the highest potential.The environmental issues of NGH production have attracted the close attention of scientists in various countries.From May 10 to July 9,2017,the first offshore NGH production test in the South China Sea (SCS)was conducted by the China Geological Survey.In addition,environmental security has also been effectively guaranteed via a comprehensive environmental monitoring system built during the NGH production test.The monitoring system considered sea-surface atmosphere methane and carbon dioxide concentrations,dissolved methane in the sea water column,and the seafloor physical oceanography and marine chemistry environment.The whole process was monitored via multiple means, in multiple layers,in all domains,and in real time.After the production test,an environmental investigation was promptly conducted to evaluate the environmental impact of the NGH production test. | 13 | YAP promotes osteogenesis and suppresses adipogenic differentiation by regulatingβ-catenin signaling显示文摘YAP(yes-associated protein) is a transcriptional factor that is negatively regulated by Hippo pathway, a conserved pathway for the development and size control of multiple organs. The exact function of YAP in bone homeostasis remains controversial. Here we provide evidence for YAP's function in promoting osteogenesis, suppressing adipogenesis, and thus maintaining bone homeostasis.YAP is selectively expressed in osteoblast(OB)-lineage cells. Conditionally knocking out Yap in the OB lineage in mice reduces cell proliferation and OB differentiation and increases adipocyte formation, resulting in a trabecular bone loss. Mechanistically, YAP interacts with β-catenin and is necessary for maintenance of nuclear β-catenin level and Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Expression of β-catenin in YAP-deficient BMSCs(bone marrow stromal cells) diminishes the osteogenesis deficit. | 14 | Intercropping with Solanum nigrum and Solanum photeinocarpum from Two Ecoclimatic Regions Promotes Growth and Reduces Cadmium Uptake of Eggplant Seedlings显示文摘Soil contamination by heavy metals is a serious environmental problem worldwide, and reduction of heavy metal accumulation in vegetables grown on contaminated land is a matter of urgency. A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of intercropping with the Cd hyperaccumulators Solanum nigrum and Solanum photeinocarpum from two ecoclimatic regions, Ya'an and Chengdu,Sichuan Province, China, on the growth and cadmium(Cd) uptake of eggplant(Solanum melongena L.). The biomass, photosynthetic pigment contents, and activities of antioxidant enzymes of eggplant were enhanced by intercropping. The biomass of eggplant was the highest after intercropping with S. photeinocarpum from Ya'an, but did not differ significantly from that after intercropping with S. nigrum from Chengdu. The shoot Cd content of eggplant was significantly reduced by intercropping with the hyperaccumulators,which ranked as follows: S. nigrum from Chengdu > S. nigrum from Ya'an > S. photeinocarpum from Chengdu > S. photeinocarpum from Ya'an, with the decreases being 19.60%, 14.36%, 9.66%, and 6.42%, respectively, as compared with the control. The lowest shoot Cd content and translocation factor of eggplant were attained after intercropping with S. nigrum from Chengdu. | 18 | Clinical profiles and outcomes of acute type A aortic dissection and intramural hematoma in the current era: lessons from the first registry of aortic dissection in China显示文摘Background::Acute type A aortic dissection(ATAAD)and acute type A intramural hematoma(ATAIMH)are life-threatening diseases with high mortality.To better understand their clinical features in the Chinese population,we analyzed the data from the first Registry of Aortic Dissection in China(Sino-RAD)to promote the understanding and management of the diseases.Methods::All patients with ATAAD and ATAIMH enrolled in Sino-RAD from January 1,2012 to December 31,2016 were involved.The data of patients’selection,history,symptoms,management,outcomes,and postoperation complications were analyzed in the study.The continuous variables were compared using the Student’s t test for normal distributions and the Mann-Whitney U test for non-normal distributions.Categorical variables were compared using the Chi-square test or Fisher exact test.Results::A total of 1582 patients with ATAAD and 130 patients with ATAIMH were included.The mean age of all patients was 48.4 years.Patients with ATAAD were significantly younger than patients with ATAIMH(48.9 years vs.55.6 years,P<0.001).For the total cohort,males were dominant,but the male ratio of patients with ATAAD was significantly higher compared to those with ATAIMH(P=0.01).The time range from the onset of symptom to hospitalization was 2.0 days.More patients of ATAIMH had hypertension than that of ATAAD(82.3%vs.67.6%,P<0.05).Chest and back pain were the most common clinical symptoms.Computerized tomography(CT)was the most common initial diagnostic imaging modality.84.7%received surgical treatment and in-hospital mortality was 5.3%.Patients with ATAAD mainly received surgical treatment(89.6%),while most patients with ATAIMH received medical treatment(39.2%)or endovascular repair(35.4%).Conclusions::Our study suggests that doctors should comprehensively use clinical examination and genetic background screening for patients with ATAAD and ATAIMH and further shorten the time range from symptoms onset to intervention,achieving early diagnosis and treatment,thereby reducing the mortality rate of patients with aortic dissection in China.We should standardize the procedures of aortic dissection treatment and improve people’s understanding.Meanwhile,the curing and transferring efficiency should also be improved. | Wei-Xun Duan Wei-Guang Wang Lin Xia Chao Xue Bo Yu Kai Ren Wei Yi Hong-Liang Liang Xiao-Chao Dong Jian Zuo Jin-Cheng Liu Shi-Qiang Yu Ding-Hua Yi | 2021 | Chinese Medical Journal2021,,8: | 15 |
| 19 | Effects of land uses on soil physic-chemical properties and erodibility in collapsing-gully alluvial fan of Anxi County,China显示文摘As a special kind of soil erosion that severely deteriorates the qualities of soil in granite regions,collapsing gully is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical areas of South China.In particular,collapsing-gully erosion produces a large amount of sediment deposited on the plough layer of alluvial fan farmland and causes increase of desertification,great reduction of nutrients and rapid enhancement of erodibility in the soil.This study was designed to evaluate the effects of different land uses on the soil physic-chemical properties and erodibility of collapsing-gully alluvial fan.Our results show that the physical properties of soil in alluvial fan were greatly improved with smaller bulk density,increased soil porosity,strengthened water holding capacity and a higher particulate matter content.The chemical properties of soil were also significantly improved,including pH,cation exchange capacity,and the contents of organic matter,total and available nitrogen,potassium and phosphorus.All the land uses were proved to improve the soil properties,especially in the tea garden,vegetable land and paddy field.The results of correlation analyses among the properties demonstrate that the physical and chemical properties were significantly correlated,indicating that improving the soil physical properties is an effective method to increase the soil nutrient in the farmland of collapsing-gully alluvial fan.In addition,the application of land uses included grass land,eucalyptus forest land,vegetable land,tea garden,sweet potato land,and paddy field reduced the erodibility of the soil compare to bare land.The erodibility K values of soils in grass land,eucalyptus forest land,vegetable land,tea garden,sweet potato land,and paddy field were 14.43,16.97,45.45,33.12,18.94,and 34.01%lowerthan those of bare land,respectively.The results of multiple linear regression analysis show that the soil erodibility had a significant correlation with the physic-chemical properties,especially the soil texture and the content of organic matter.In conclusion,our results demonstrate that different land use patterns are effective to improve the quality of the soil in collapsing-gully alluvial fan,including the improvements of the soil structure,nutrients and anti-erosion ability.Ourfindings provide important implications for the soil improvement in the farmland of collapsing-gully alluvial fan. | DENG Yu-song XIA Dong CAI Chong-fa DING Shu-wen | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,8: | 15 |
