Synergistic antibacterial effect of honey and Herba Ocimi Basilici against some bacterial pathogens显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the antibacterial activity of the combination of different honey brands and methanolic fraction of Herba Ocimi Basilici using agar well diffusion assay. METHODS: The antibacterial activity was determined against thirteen pathogenic bacterial clinical isolates including six gram negative(Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimirium, Xanthomonas campestris) and six gram positive strains(Enterococcus faecalis faecalis, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens type C, Clostridium perfringens type D, Clostridium chauvoei). Agar well diffusion method was used while zones of inhibition were measured with vernier scale. RESULTS: At higher concentration, all the honey brands showed good to significant activity. The highest activity was observed for Hamdard brand honey(27.60±0.40) against Enterococcus faecalis. CONCLUSION: These results revealed that combinations of plant extracts of Herba Ocimi Basilici with honey can be used for the development of potent and novel antibacterial agents. | Ali Talha Khalil Imran Khan Kafeel Ahmad Yusra Ali Khan Momin Khan Muhammad Jaseem Khan | 2013 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2013,33,6: | 4
Role of dietary phytochemicals in modulation of miRNA expression:Natural swords combating breast cancer显示文摘The National Cancer Institute had projected breast cancer(BC) as one of the topmost prevalent malignancies around the globe. In many cases,BC becomes resistant to chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal therapies.Traditional BC therapies are associated with adverse side effects, drug resistance and recurrence.Extensive research work has shown that these dietary phytochemicals(DPs) may exert therapeutic effects by regulating the miRNA expression.A large number of DPs have been researched as miRNA regulatory agents against BC and some other DPs have not yet been tested against BC.We have discussed the effects of curcumin, diallyl disulphide,3,3′ diindolylmethane, ellagic acid,genistein,indole-3-carbinol,quercetin,resveratrol,and sulforaphane on regulation of expression of BC miRNAs in a wide range of in vitro and in vivo models. We have also shown some of the possible DPs(Oleanolic acid, capsaicin, benzyl isothiocyanate, epigallocatechin gallate, phenethyl isothiocyanate and ursolic acid) that have shown miRNA regulatory activities and have not yet been tested against BC miRNAs.Finally, current limitations, challenges, future perspectives of DPs and BC research are also critically discussed. | Banzeer Ahsan Abbasi Javed Iqbal Tariq Mahmood Ali Talha Khalil Barkat Ali Sobia Kanwal Sayed Afzal Shah Riaz Ahmad | 2018 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2018,11,9: | 3

A review on protein based nanocarriers for polyphenols:interaction and stabilization mechanisms显示文摘Protein has been used as the carrier for protecting and targeting polyphenols and increasing their shelf-life.Interactions of a protein molecule with polyphenols are important, which change functions and physiochemical properties of the complex and provide protection to polyphenols.Interactions between proteins and polyphenols are largely non-covalent.Factors that affect such interactions include pH,temperature, and the structure of both proteins and polyphenols. Moreover, excellent stability of polyphenols can be achieved by using nanoencapsulation techniques such as emulsion, nanohydrogel, and nanocomplex formation. The use of protein combined with other compounds such as lipids and carbohydrates was found to be the most suitable carrier for polyphenols encapsulation. This review aims to describe the interaction between proteins and polyphenols, focusing on applying nanoencapsulation for increasing stability and targeted delivery of phenolic compounds. | Yun Xiao Talha Ahmad Tarun Belwal Rana Muhammad Aadil Muhammad Siddique Limin Pang Yanqun Xu | 2023 | Food Innovation and Advances2023,2,3: | 0

Response of Contrasting Rice Genotypes to Zinc Sources under Saline Condition显示文摘Abiotic stresses are among the major limiting factors for plant growth and crop productivity.Among these, salinity is one of the major risk factors for plant growth and development in arid to semi-arid regions.Cultivation of salt tolerant crop genotypes is one of the imperative approaches to meet the food demand for increasing population. The current experiment was carried out to access the performance of different rice genotypes under salinity stress and Zinc(Zn)sources.Four rice genotypes were grown in a pot experiment and were exposed to salinity stress(7 dS m^(−1)),and Zn(15 mg kg^(-1)soil)was applied from two sources,ZnSO4 and Zn-EDTA.A control of both salinity and Zn was kept for comparison. Results showed that based on the biomass accumulation and K^(+)/Na^(+)ratio,KSK-133 and BAS-198 emerged as salt tolerant and salt sensitive, respectively.Similarly, based on the Zn concentration,BAS-2000 was reported as Zn-in-efficient while IR-6 was a Zn-efficient genotype. Our results also revealed that plant growth, relative water content(RWC),physiological attributes including chlorophyll contents, ionic concentrations in straw and grains of all rice genotypes were decreased under salinity stress. However, salt tolerant and Zn-in-efficient rice genotypes showed significantly higher shoot K^(+)and Zn concentrations under saline conditions.Zinc application significantly alleviates the harmful effects of salinity by improving morpho-physiological attributes and enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities, and the uptake of K and Zn.The beneficial effect of Zn was more pronounced in salt-tolerant and Zn in-efficient rice genotypes as compared with salt-sensitive and Zn-efficient genotypes. In sum,our results confirmed that Zn application increased overall plant’s performance under saline conditions, particularly in Zn in-efficient and tolerant genotypes as compared with salt-sensitive and Zn efficient rice genotypes. | Muhammad Jan Muhammad Anwar-Ul-Haq Talha Javed Sadam Hussain Ilyas Ahmad Muhammad Ashraf Sumrah Javed Iqbal Babar Hussain Babar Aqsa Hafeez Muhammad Aslam Muhammad Tahir Akbar Marjan Aziz Khadiga Alharbi Izhar Ullah | 2023 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,5: | 0
A low complexity online controller using fuzzy logic in energy harvesting WSNs显示文摘In this paper, we present a fuzzy logic based scheme for a two hop energy harvesting(EH)wireless sensor network(WSN). Incorporating data and energy causality constraints, discrete transmission rates, finite energy and data buffers, a fuzzy model is developed which uses network throughput, battery level and channel gain as inputs. The fuzzy scheme is then compared with optimum, modified optimum, and Markov decision process(MDP) schemes in terms of computational complexity, throughput, battery level and data buffer capacity. The throughput results show that the fuzzy online scheme preforms closely to the compared schemes and avoids battery depletion even when the number of discrete transmission rates are increased. | Talha AZFAR Waqas AHMED Abdul HASEEB Rizwan AHMAD Sufi Tabassum GUL Fu-Chun ZHENG | 2019 | Science China(Information Sciences)2019,62,4: | 0
A Quantum Spatial Graph Convolutional Network for Text Classification显示文摘The data generated from non-Euclidean domains and its graphical representation(with complex-relationship object interdependence)applications has observed an exponential growth. The sophistication of graph data has posed consequential obstacles to the existing machine learning algorithms. In this study,we have considered a revamped version of a semi-supervised learning algorithm for graph-structured data to address the issue of expanding deep learning approaches to represent the graph data.Additionally, the quantum information theory has been applied through Graph Neural Networks(GNNs)to generate Riemannian metrics in closed-form of several graph layers. In further,to pre-process the adjacency matrix of graphs,a new formulation is established to incorporate high order proximities. The proposed scheme has shown outstanding improvements to overcome the deficiencies in Graph Convolutional Network(GCN),particularly, the information loss and imprecise information representation with acceptable computational overhead. Moreover, the proposed Quantum Graph Convolutional Network(QGCN)has significantly strengthened the GCN on semi-supervised node classification tasks. In parallel,it expands the generalization process with a significant difference by making small random perturbationsG of the graph during the training process. The evaluation results are provided on three benchmark datasets, including Citeseer,Cora, and PubMed,that distinctly delineate the superiority of the proposed model in terms of computational accuracy against state-of-the-art GCN and three other methods based on the same algorithms in the existing literature. | Syed Mustajar Ahmad Shah Hongwei Ge Sami Ahmed Haider Muhammad Irshad Sohail M.Noman Jehangir Arshad Asfandeyar Ahmad Talha Younas | 2021 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2021,36,2: | 0
