The nanostructure of roughly 150 nm in diameter with a spatial resolution of 6 nm is purely constructed by folding DNA. The picture observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) is almost identical with the de-signed shape. | 4 | Protective Effect of Magnesium Isoglycyrrhizinate on Ethanol-Induced Testicular Injuries in Mice显示文摘Objective:Ethanol treatment induces an increase in oxidative stress. As licorice compounds are potent antioxidants, our aim was to examine whether magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate attenuated lipid peroxidation, the major end-point of oxidative damage resulting from ethanol administration. Methods: Four groups(18 animals in each group) of male Kunming mice were used. The first group served as control and received 0.4 ml normal saline daily for 18 days orally. The second group of mice was given 56% ethanol at 16 ml/kg body weight per day for 18 days orally. The third group was given the same dose of ethanol and administrated magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (15 mg/kg.d, i.p.) for 18 days. The fourth group was given the same dose of ethanol and administrated with magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (45 mg/kg.d, i.p.) for 18 days. Twenty four hours after 9 days or 18 days of treatment the mice were sacrificed using 10% chloral hydrate. Sperm counts and motility in the epididymis were assessed. The lipid peroxidation and antioxidants of testicular mitochondria were also determined. The pathological changes of testicle tissue of the mice were observed by light microscopy. Results: Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate effectively prevented the ethanol-induced seminiferous epithelium disorganization and degeneration of Sertoli cells and germ cells. Sperm counts and motility of the magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate treated groups were higher than those of the alcohol treated group, but were lower than those of the control group. The drug exhibited an ability to counteract ethanol induced oxidative challenge as it effectively reduced testicular malondialdehyde (MDA) and increased the activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. | 6 | A Method for Detection of Main Metabolites in Aromatic Rice Seeds显示文摘[Objective] A method was developed for the analysis of main metabolites in aromatic rice seeds by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry( GC-MS).[Method]The main metabolites in seeds of 9 different aromatic rice varieties were compared and analyzed with two methods. Method 1: the compound was extracted by the mixture of anhydrous ethanol and methylene chloride( V/V = 1∶ 1) at 60 ℃ for 3 h in water bath; the extract was isolated and detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using HP-5 capillary column with scan monitoring mode. Method 2: the main metabolites in aromatic rice seeds were detected using headspace solid phase micro-extraction and gas chromatography mass spectrometry( GC-MS). [Result]Fifteen types of common metabolites were found in 9 different aromatic rice varieties. Method 1 was more effective than method 2 in detecting the main metabolites in aromatic rice seeds. | 8 | Numerical study of shoreline changes by emergency beach nourishment project at the Middle Beach of Beidaihe, China显示文摘Beach nourishment is a common coastal management strategy used to protect beach from erosion along the sandy coastlines. This method has been successfully applied to an emergency project at the West Beach of Beidaihe in the summer of 2008 and the full West Beach nourishment project in 2009-2010, which is the direct base of this study. Some basic information about the emergency engineering area at the Middle Beach is firstly described. The shoreline change of this area, including the analysis of beach width in five monitoring profiles in the bathing places of Middle Beach, is then discussed. After that a numerical model based on one-line theory is established and the numerical results agree well with the measured shorelines, which indicates that the model is appropriate and is qualified to predict the shoreline change of the Middle Beach. With the same model and parameters, long-term performance of the project is predicted, and the result shows that without follow-up nourishment and project, the bathing places can remain suitable for bathing for about 10 a. | 12 | Recent progress in polymer dielectrics containing boron nitride nanosheets for high energy density capacitors显示文摘Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets(BNNSs)are two-dimensional nanomaterials with graphitic-like layered nanostructures,high surface areas,and large aspect ratios.Owing to their excellent thermal conductivity,electrical and mechanical strengths,BNNSs are emerging as multifunctional fillers in polymer dielectrics.In this article,the authors review the recent progress in the BN-containing polymer nanocomposites designed for high-performance film capacitors.While general synthetic approaches to BNNSs and polymer/BNNS nanocomposites are summarized,particular attention is placed on structure-property correlation and rational structural design of the composites with optimized dielectric properties and capacitive performances.In stark contrast to the polymer composites employing high dielectric constant fillers to enhance the electric displacement,a new design concept based on the utilization of BNNSs with a wide bandgap to impede electrical conduction and consequently improve breakdown strength and charge-discharge efficiency of the polymer composites,is highlighted.The significance of developing dielectric capacitors with desirable thermal conductivity and thermal stability to ensure their robust and efficient operation is emphasized.The merits and challenges regarding the existing polymer dielectrics containing BNNSs for energy storage are identified.An outlook for future research opportunities and engineering applications is also presented in this review. | He Li Lulu Ren Yao Zhou Bin Yao Qing Wang | 2020 | High Voltage2020,5,4: | 2 |
| 13 | D609 protects retinal pigmented epithelium as a potential therapy for age-related macular degeneration显示文摘Accumulated oxidative damage may lead to irreversible retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE)cell death,which is considered to be the primary cause of dry age-related macular degeneration(AMD),leading to blindness in the elderly.However,an effective therapy for this disease is lacking.Here,we described a robust high-content screening procedure with a library of 814 protective compounds and found that D609 strongly protected RPE cells from sodium iodate(SI)-induced oxidative cell death and prolonged their healthy survival.D609 effectively attenuated excessive reactive oxygen species(ROS)and prevented severe mitochondrial loss due to oxidative stress in the RPE cells.Surprisingly,the potent antioxidative effects of D609 were not achieved through its own reducibility but were primarily dependent on its ability to increase the expression of metallothionein.The injection of this small water-soluble molecule also showed an explicit protective effect of the RPE layer in an SI-induced AMD mouse model.These findings suggested that D609 could serve as a novel antioxidative protector of RPE cells both in vitro and in vivo and unveiled a novel antioxidative mechanism of D609,which may ultimately have clinical applications for the treatment of AMD. | Bowen Wang Li Wang Sijie Gu Yankun Yu Huaxing Huang Kunlun Mo He Xu Fanzhu Zeng Yichen Xiao Lulu Peng Chunqiao Liu Nan Cao Yizhi Liu Jin Yuan Hong Ouyang | 2020 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1: | 2 |
| 14 | Ternary polymer nanocomposites with concurrently enhanced dielectric constant and breakdown strength for high-temperature electrostatic capacitors显示文摘The exploration of high-energy-density electrostatic capacitors capable of operating both efficiently and reliably at elevated temperatures is of great significance in order to meet advanced power electronic applications.The energy density of a capacitor is strongly dependent on dielectric constant and breakdown strength of a dielectric material.Here,we demonstrate a class of solution-processable polymer nanocomposites exhibiting a concurrent improvement in dielectric constant and breakdown strength,which typically show a negative correlation in conventional dielectric materials,along with a reduction in dielectric loss.The excellent performance is enabled by the elegant combination of nanostructured barium titanate and boron nitride fillers with complementary functionalities.The ternary polymer nanocomposite with the optimized filler compositions delivers a discharged energy density of 2.92 J cm^−3 and a Weibull breakdown strength of 547 MV m^−1 at 150℃,which are 83%and 25%,respectively,greater than those of the pristine polymer.The conduction behaviors including interfacial barrier and carrier transport process have been investigated to rationalize the energy storage performance of ternary polymer nanocomposite.This contribution provides a new design paradigm for scalable high-temperature polymer film capacitors. | He Li Lulu Ren Ding Ai Zhubing Han Yang Liu Bin Yao Qing Wang | 2020 | InfoMat2020,2,2: | 2 |

In construction of engineered kidneys, researchers used native decellularized extracellular matrix(ECM) as the scaffolds to recellularization. However, thrombosis has been a great issue that hinders the progress of transplantation in vivo. In this study, heparin was immobilized to the collagen part of decellularized scaffold with collagen-binding peptide(CBP). Through the anticoagulant and endothelial cell reperfusion experiments, it can be demonstrated that the heparinized scaffolds absorbed less platelets and red blood cells which can effectively reduce the formation of thrombosis. Moreover, it is conducive to longterm adhesion of endothelial cells which is important for the formation of subsequent vascularization. | 19 | Sublytic C5b-9 triggers glomerular mesangial cell apoptosis in rat Thy-1 nephritis via Gadd45 activation mediated by Egr-1 and p300-dependent ATF3 acetylation显示文摘The apoptosis of glomerular mesangial cells(GMCs)is considered to be an important contributor to the initiation and development of rat Thy-1 nephritis(Thy-1N)and is accompanied by sublytic C5b-9 deposition.However,the mechanism by which sublytic C5b-9 triggers GMC apoptosis has not been elucidated.In this study,functional and histological examinations were performed on GMCs treated with sublytic C5b-9(in vitro)and renal tissues of Thy-1N rats(in vivo).The in vitro studies found that sublytic C5b-9 could trigger GMC apoptosis through upregulating Egr-1,ATF3,and Gadd45 expression.Egr-1-mediated post-transcriptional modulation of ATF3,Egr-1/ATF3-enhanced Gadd45 promoter activity,and p300-mediated ATF3 acetylation were all involved in GMC apoptosis.More importantly,the effective binding elements for Egr-1 and ATF3 to Gadd45β/γpromoters and the ATF3 acetylation site were identified.In vivo,silencing renal p300,Egr-1,ATF3,and Gadd45β/γsignificantly decreased GMC apoptosis,secondary GMC proliferation,and urinary protein secretion in Thy-1N rats.Together,these findings implicate that sublytic C5b-9-induced activation of Egr-1/p300–ATF3/Gadd45 axis plays a critical role in GMC apoptosis in Thy-1N rats. | Fengxia He Mengya Zhou Tianyi Yu Dan Zhao Jing Zhang Wen Qiu Yanlai Lu Yu Liu Lulu Wang Yingwei Wang | 2016 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2016,8,6: | 1 |
