| 2 | Chinese herbal medicine reduces mortality in patients with severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019: a retrospective cohort study显示文摘This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine(CHM)in patients with severe/critical coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).In this retrospective study,data were collected from 662 patients with severe/critical COVID-19 who were admitted to a designated hospital to treat patients with severe COVID-19 in Wuhan before March 20,2020.All patients were divided into an exposed group(CHM users)and a control group(non-users).After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio,156 CHM users were matched by propensity score to 156 non-users.No significant differences in seven baseline clinical variables were found between the two groups of patients.All-cause mortality was reported in 13 CHM users who died and 36 non-users who died.After multivariate adjustment,the mortality risk of CHM users was reduced by 82.2%(odds ratio 0.178,95%CI 0.076–0.418;P<0.001)compared with the non-users.Secondly,age(odds ratio 1.053,95%CI 1.023–1.084;P<0.001)and the proportion of severe/critical patients(odds ratio 0.063,95%CI 0.028–0.143;P<0.001)were the risk factors of mortality.These results show that the use of CHM may reduce the mortality of patients with severe/critical COVID-19. | Guohua Chen Wen Su Jiayao Yang Dan Luo Ping Xia Wen Jia Xiuyang Li Chuan Wang Suping Lang Qingbin Meng Ying Zhang Yuhe Ke An Fan Shuo Yang Yujiao Zheng Xuepeng Fan Jie Qiao Fengmei Lian Li Wei Xiaolin Tong | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6: | 10 |
| 3 | Effects of extreme soil water stress on photosynthetic efficiency and water consumption characteristics of Tamarix chinensis in China's Yellow River Delta显示文摘Soil moisture is a major limiting factor for plant growth on shell ridge islands in the Yellow River Delta.However, it is difficult to carry out situ experiment to study dominant plant photosynthesis physiological on the shell ridge islands under extreme soil water stress. To evaluate the adaptability of plants to light and moisture variations under extreme soil moisture conditions present on these islands, we measured photosynthetic gas exchange process,chlorophyll fluorescence, and stem sap flow variables for3-year-old trees of Tamarix chinensis Lour, a restoration species on these islands, subjected to three types of soilwater levels: waterlogging stress(WS), alternating dry–wet(WD), and severe drought stress(SS) to inform decisions on its planting and management on shell ridge islands. Gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, and stem sap flow in T.chinensis were then measured. Net photosynthetic rate(PN), transpiration rate(E), and water use efficiency(WUE)were similar under WS and alternating dry–wet conditions,but their mean E and WUEdiffered significantly(P \ 0.05).Under SS, the PN, E and WUEof T. chinensis leaves varied slightly, and mean PN, E and WUEwere all low. Apparent quantum efficiency(AQY), light compensation point(LCP),light saturation point(LSP), and maximum net photosynthetic rate(PNmax) of leaves were not significantly different(P [ 0.05) under WS and dry–wet conditions; however,under extreme drought stress, compared with the dry–wet conditions, LCPwas higher, LSPwas lower, and AQYand PNmaxwere both at the lowest level. Therefore, drought stress weakened light adaptability of leaves, and the efficiency of light transformation was poorer.(3) Maximum photochemical efficiency(Fv/Fm) and the actual photochemical efficiency(UPSII) were similar under waterlogged stress and dry–wet conditions, indicating a similar healthy photosynthetic apparatus and photosynthetic reaction center activity, respectively. Under SS, Fv/Fmwas 0.631, and the coefficient of non-photochemical quenching(NPQ) was0.814, which indicated that while the photosynthetic mechanism was damaged, the absorbed light energy was mainly dissipated in the form of heat, and the potential photosynthetic productivity was significantly reduced. The daily cumulants of sap flow of T. chinensis under dry–wet alternation and severe drought stress were 22.25 and63.97% higher, respectively, than under waterlogging stress. Daily changes in sap flow velocity for T. chinensis differed under the three soil water levels. Stem sap flow was weak at night under severe drought stress. Under dry–wet alternation, daytime average stem sap flow velocity was the highest, and night stem flow accounted for 10.26%of the day cumulants, while under waterlogged stress, the average nightly stem flow velocity was the highest,accounting for 31.82% of the day cumulants. | 4 | Effects of soil drought stress on photosynthetic gas exchange traits and chlorophyll fluorescence in Forsythia suspensa显示文摘To clarify the changes in plant photosynthesis and mechanisms underlying those responses to gradually increasing soil drought stress and reveal quantitative relationships between photosynthesis and soil moisture,soil water conditions were controlled in greenhouse pot experiments using 2-year-old seedlings of Forsythia suspensa(Thunb.) Vahl. Photosynthetic gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence variables were measured and analyzed under 13 gradients of soil water content. Net photosynthetic rate(PN), stomatal conductance(gs), and water-use efficiency(WUE) in the seedlings exhibited a clear threshold response to the relative soil water content(RSWC). The highest PNand WUEoccurred at RSWCof51.84 and 64.10%, respectively. Both PNand WUEwere higher than the average levels at 39.79% B RSWCB 73.04%. When RSWCdecreased from 51.84 to 37.52%,PN, gs, and the intercellular CO2 concentration(Ci)markedly decreased with increasing drought stress; the corresponding stomatal limitation(Ls) substantially increased, and nonphotochemical quenching(NPQ) also tended to increase, indicating that within this range of soil water content, excessive excitation energy was dispersed from photosystem II(PSII) in the form of heat, and the reduction in PNwas primarily due to stomatal limitation.While RSWCdecreased below 37.52%, there were significant decreases in the maximal quantum yield of PSII photochemistry(Fv/Fm) and the effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry(UPSII), photochemical quenching(qP), and NPQ; in contrast, minimal fluorescence yield of the dark-adapted state(F0) increased markedly. Thus,the major limiting factor for the PNreduction changed to a nonstomatal limitation due to PSII damage. Therefore, an RSWCof 37.52% is the maximum allowable water deficit for the normal growth of seedlings of F. suspensa, and a water content lower than this level should be avoided in field soil water management. | 5 | A 14-year multi-institutional collaborative study of Chinese pelvic floor surgical procedures related to pelvic organ prolapse显示文摘Background:It has been a global trend that increasing complications related to pelvic floor surgeries have been reported over time.The current study aimed to outline the development of Chinese pelvic floor surgeries related to pelvic organ prolapse(POP)over the past 14 years and investigate the potential influence of enhanced monitoring conducted by the Chinese Association of Urogynecology since 2011.Methods:A total of 44,594 women with POP who underwent pelvic floor surgeries between October 1,2004 and September 30,2018 were included from 22 tertiary academic medical centers.The data were reported voluntarily and obtained from a database.We compared the proportion of each procedure in the 7 years before and 7 years after September 30,2011.The data were analyzed by performing Z test(one-sided).Results:The number of different procedures during October 1,2011-September 30,2018 was more than twice that during October 1,2004-September 30,2011.Regarding pelvic floor surgeries related to POP,the rate of synthetic mesh procedures increased from 38.1%(5298/13,906)during October 1,2004-September 30,2011 to 46.0%(14,107/30,688)during October 1,2011-September 30,2018,whereas the rate of non-mesh procedures decreased from 61.9%(8608/13,906)to 54.0%(16,581/30,688)(Z=15.53,P<0.001).Regarding synthetic mesh surgeries related to POP,the rates of transvaginal placement of surgical mesh(TVM)procedures decreased from 94.1%(4983/5298)to 82.2%(11,603/14,107)(Z=20.79,P<0.001),but the rate of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy(LSC)procedures increased from 5.9%(315/5298)to 17.8%(2504/14,107).Conclusions:The rate of synthetic mesh procedures increased while that of non-mesh procedures decreased significantly.The rate of TVM procedures decreased while the rate of LSC procedures increased significantly.Trial registration number:NCT03620565,http://gffzz111276e5ed644ca6s5o09ox5qq0vv6vuf.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn. | Zhi-Jing Sun Xiu-Qi Wang Jing-He Lang Tao Xu Yong-Xian Lu Ke-Qin Hua Jin-Song Han Huai-Fang Li Xiao-Wen Tong Ping Wang Jian-Liu Wang Xin Yang Xiang-Hua Huang Pei-Shu Liu Yan-Feng Song Hang-Mei Jin Jing-Yan Xie Lu-Wen Wang Qing-Kai Wu Jian Gong Yan Wang Li-Qun Wang Zhao-Ai Li Hui-Cheng Xu Zhi-Jun Xia Li-Na Gu Qing Liu Lan Zhu | 2021 | Chinese Medical Journal2021,,2: | 7 |

| 8 | ERK1/2-mediated Cytoplasmic Accumulation of hnRNPK Antagonizes TRAIL-induced Apoptosis through Upregulation of XIAP in H1299 Cells显示文摘Objective Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand(TRAIL) resistance greatly limits the clinical therapeutic efficacy of TRAIL. Elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying TRAIL resistance will be fundamental to resolving this problem. Methods Nuclear and cytoplasmic protein extraction and immunofluorescence(IF) assay were used to detect changes in heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K(hn RNPK) localization in H1299 cells. The evaluation of cell apoptosis in cells transfected with GFP-hn RNPK, GFP-hn RNPK S284/353 A, or GFP-hn RNPK S284/353 D mutant was performed using cleaved caspase-3 antibody. The gene expression of XIAP was tested by quantitative RT-PCR. Results Previously, we reported that hn RNPK antagonized TRAIL-induced apoptosis through inhibition of PKC-mediated GSK3β phosphorylation. In this study, we further demonstrate that TRAIL treatment induces cytoplasmic accumulation of hn RNPK in H1299 cells. The hn RNPK localized in the cytoplasm has a higher capacity to antagonize TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Both ERK1/2 signaling inhibitor U0126 and ERK-phosphoacceptor-site mutant(GFP-hn RNPK S284/353A) diminish cytoplasmic accumulation of hn RNPK induced by TRAIL. Moreover, we show that XIAP is involved in hn RNPK-mediated TRAIL resistance in H1299 cells. | 9 | An epidemiology study of fecal incontinence in adult Chinese women living in urban areas显示文摘Background:Fecal incontinence(FI)has been shown to be a common symptom in Western countries;however,there is few researches focusing on its epidemic condition in Chinese women.We conducted this national population-based epidemiology study to estimate the prevalence and risk factors of FI among adult Chinese women living in urban regions.Methods:This is a subgroup analysis of a national population-based epidemiology study of FI.Total 28,196 adult women from urban regions of six provinces and municipalities participated in this research from 2014 to 2015.They finished the questionnaire under the direction of trained interviewers.FI was defined as accidental leakage of flatus and/or liquid or solid stool at least once in the past.The FI prevalence trend and risk factors were identified by the Cochran-Armitage test,Chi-square test,and multivariable logistic regression.Results:The prevalence of FI in adult females in urban China was 0.43%(95%confidence interval:0.35%-0.51%).Among women with FI,42.96%,82.96%,and 42.22%reported having leakage of solid,liquid stool,and gas,respectively.The overall FI prevalence and the incidence rate of solid stool/liquid stool/gas leakage increased with age.The mean Wexner score was 4.0%and 12.0%FI patients reported Wexner score≥9.Body mass index≥24 kg/m2,pelvic organ prolapses,chronic constipation,chronic cough,alcohol consumption,physical diseases including chronic bronchitis and cancer,gynecological diseases like gynecological inflammation are risk factors for FI.Vaginal delivery was the risk factor for FI in females with labor history.Conclusions:FI was not a common symptom in adult Chinese women living in urban areas and there were some potential modifiable risk factors. | Yuan Yuan Lin Qiu Zhi-Yi Li Lei Zhang Tao Xu Jing-He Lang Zhao-Ai Li Jian Gong Qing Liu Xiao-Chun Liu Jun-Tao Wang Zhi-Jun Xia Zhu Lan | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,3: | 5 |
| 10 | Improving the Local Sheep in Gansu via Crossing with Introduced Sheep Breeds Dorset and Borderdale显示文摘In order to improve the meat performance of local sheep in Gansu Province,Dorset and Borderdale were introduced to crossbreed with local sheep which were Tan sheep,Small-tail Han sheep and Mongolia sheep. The offspring under different crossbreeding combinations were sampled randomly at the different growing stage to measure their growth traits so as to select optimize the crossbreeding mode. | 11 | Production of Transgenic Tall Fescue Plants with Enhanced Stress Tolerances by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-Mediated Transformation显示文摘In order to improve stress tolerances of turf-type tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), Agrobacterium tumefaciensstrain EHA105 carrying plasmid pCMD containing stress tolerance-related CBF1 gene from Arabidopsis thaliana wasused to transform mature seeds-derived embryogenic calli of four cultivars. A total of 112 transgenic plants were regeneratedfrom 32 independent lines and verified by histochemical detection of GUS activity, PCR assay and Southern hybridizationanalysis. The transformation frequency ranged from 0.92 to 2.87% with apparent differences among the cultivars. Stresstolerances of transgenic plants were enhanced, which was shown by the facts that transgenic plants had distinct growthsuperiority and significantly higher survival rate than non-transformed ones under high salinity and high osmosis stresses,and that relative electronic conductivity of in vitro leaves treated with low and high temperatures, dehydration and highsalinity stresses was 25-30% lower in transgenic plants than in control plants. | 12 | A Neural Network Method for Monitoring Snowstorm: A Case Study in Southern China显示文摘It has been observed that low temperature, rainfall, snowfall, frost have never occurred over the past 50 years in the southern China, and weather in this area is very complex, so the monitoring equipments are few. Optical and thermal infrared remote sensing is influenced much by clouds, so the passive microwave Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-Earth Observing System(AMSR-E) data are the best choice to monitor and analyze the development of disaster. In order to improve estimation accuracy, the dynamic learning neural network was used to retrieve snow depth. The difference of brightness temperatures of TB18.7V and TB36.5V, TB18.7H and TB36.5H, TB23.8V and TB89 V, TB23.8H and TB89 H are made as four main input nodes and the snow depth is the only one output node of neural network. The mean and the standard deviation of retrieval errors are about 4.8 cm and 6.7 cm relative to the test data of ground measurements. | 14 | Impacts of Aerosol−Radiation Interactions on the Wintertime Particulate Pollution under Different Synoptic Patterns in the Guanzhong Basin,China显示文摘The effects of aerosol-radiation interactions(ARI)are not only important for regional and global climate,but they can also drive particulate matter(PM)pollution.In this study,the ARI contribution to the near-surface fine PM(PM_(2.5))concentrations in the Guanzhong Basin(GZB)is evaluated under four unfavorable synoptic patterns,including“northlow”,“transition”,“southeast-trough”,and“inland-high”,based on WRF-Chem model simulations of a persistent heavy PM pollution episode in January 2019.Simulations show that ARI consistently decreases both solar radiation reaching down to the surface(SWDOWN)and surface temperature(TSFC),which then reduces wind speed,induces sinking motion,and influences cloud formation in the GZB.However,large differences under the four synoptic patterns still exist.The average reductions of SWDOWN and daytime TSFC in the GZB range from 15.2%and 1.04°C in the case of the“transition”pattern to 26.7%and 1.69°C in the case of the“north-low”pattern,respectively.Furthermore,ARI suppresses the development of the planetary boundary layer(PBL),with the decrease of PBL height(PBLH)varying from 18.7%in the case of the“transition”pattern to 32.0%in the case of the“north-low”pattern.The increase of daytime near-surface PM_(2.5)in the GZB due to ARI is 12.0%,8.1%,9.5%,and 9.7%under the four synoptic patterns,respectively.Ensemble analyses also reveal that when near-surface PM_(2.5)concentrations are low,ARI tends to lower PM_(2.5)concentrations with decreased PBLH,which is caused by enhanced divergence or a transition from divergence to convergence in an area.ARI contributes 15%-25%toward the near-surface PM_(2.5)concentrations during the severe PM pollution period under the four synoptic patterns. | Naifang BEI Xia LI Qiyuan WANG Suixin LIU Jiarui WU Jiayi LIANG Lang LIU Ruonan WANG Guohui LI | 2021 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,7: | 2 |
| 15 | Identification of sources,characteristics and photochemical transformations of dissolved organic matter with EEM-PARAFAC in the Wei River of China显示文摘Dissolved organic matter(DOM)in rivers is a critical regulator of the cycling and toxicity of pollutants and the behavior of DOM is a key indicator for the health of the environment.We investigated the sources and characteristics of DOM in surface water and sediment samples of the Wei River,China.Dissolved organic carbon(DOC)concentration and ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm(UV254)increased in the surface water and were decreased in the sediment downstream,indicating that the source of DOM in the water differed from the sediment.Parallel factor(PARAFAC)analysis of the excitation-emission matrices(EEM)revealed the presence of terrestrial humus-like,microbial humus-like and tryptophan-like proteins in the surface water,whereas the sediment contained UVA humic-like,UVC humic-like and fulvic-like in the sediment.The DOM in the surface water and sediment were mainly derived from microbial metabolic activity and the surrounding soil.Surface water DOM displayed greater photodegradation potential than sediment DOM.PARAFAC analysis indicated that the terrestrial humic-like substance in the water and the fulvic-like component in the sediment decomposed more rapidly.These data describe the characteristics of DOM in the Wei River and are crucial to understanding the fluctuations in environmental patterns. | Yuanyuan Luo Yangyang Zhang Mengfan Lang Xuetao Guo Tianjiao Xia Tiecheng Wang Hanzhong Jia Lingyan Zhu | 2021 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2021,15,5: | 2 |
| 16 | YWHAZ Binds to TRIM21 but Is Not Involved in TRIM21-stimulated Osteosarcoma Cell Proliferation显示文摘Objective Osteosarcoma is the most common type of malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. The role of E3 ligases in tumorigenesis is currently a focus in tumor research. In the present study, we investigated the role of the E3 ligase tripartite motif 21(TRIM21) in osteosarcoma cell proliferation.Methods 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assays were used to assess osteosarcoma cell viability. U2-OS cells stably carrying a recombinant lentivirus expressing tetracycline-regulated TRIM21 were screened. Co-immunoprecipitation was coupled with LCMS/MS analysis to identify novel interacting partners of TRIM21. Co-immunoprecipitation and bimolecular fluorescence complementation(BIFC) were performed to validate the interactions between TRIM21 and its novel partner YWHAZ. A TRIM21-ΔRING construct was generated to test the effects of TRIM21 ligase activity on YWHAZ.Results TRIM21 positively regulated osteosarcoma cell proliferation. Overexpression of TRIM21 enhanced osteosarcoma cell tolerance toward various stresses. YWHAZ protein was identified as a novel interacting partner of TRIM21 and its expression levels were negatively regulated by TRIM21. The RING domain of TRIM21 was required for TRIM21 negative regulation of YWHAZ expression. | 17 | The Monitoring Analysis for the Drought in China by Using an Improved MPI Method显示文摘MPI (microwave polarization index) method can use different frequencies at vertical polarization to retrieve soil moisture from TMI (tropical microwave imager) data, which is mainly suitable for bare soil. This paper makes an improvement for MPI method which makes it suitable for surface covered by vegetation. The MPI by using single frequency at different polarizations is used to discriminate the bare soil and vegetation which overcomes the difficulty in previous algorithms by using optical remote sensing data, and then the revision is made according to the different land surface types. The validation by using ground measurement data indicates that revision for different land surface types can improve the retrieval accuracy. The average error is about 24.5% by using the ground truth data obtained from ground observation stations, and the retrieval error is about 13.7% after making a revision by using ground measurement data from local observation stations for different surface types. | 18 | Three-dimensional ordered hierarchically porous carbon materials for high performance Li-Se battery显示文摘Developing host materials with high specific surface area, good electron conductivity, and fast ion transportation channel is critical for high performance lithium-selenium(Li-Se) batteries. Herein, a series of three dimensional ordered hierarchically porous carbon(3D OHPC) materials with micro/meso/macropores are designed and synthesized for Li-Se battery. The porous structure is tuned by following the concept of the generalized Murray’s law to facilitate the mass diffusion and reduce ion transport resistance.The optimized 3D Se/OHPC cathode exhibits a very high 2 nd discharge capacity of 651 m Ah/g and retains 361 m Ah/g after 200 cycles at 0.2 C. Even at a high current rate of 5 C, the battery still shows a discharge capacity as high as 155 m Ah/g. The improved electrochemical performance is attributed to the synergy effect of the interconnected and well-designed micro, meso and macroporosity while shortened ions diffusion pathways of such Murray materials accelerate its ionic and electronic conductivities leading to the enhanced electrochemical reaction. The diffusivity coefficient in Se/OHPC can reach a very high value of 1.3 × 10^(-11)cm^(2)/s, much higher than those in single pore size carbon hosts. Their effective volume expansion accommodation capability and reduced dissolution of polyselenides ensure the high stability of the battery.
