| 5 | Foxtail millet supplementation improves glucose metabolism and gut microbiota in rats with high-fat diet/streptozotocin-induced diabetes显示文摘Foxtail millet(FM)whole grain has received special attention in recent years.To confirm the hypoglycemic effects of FM,we investigated the effects of FM supplementation on glucose metabolism and gut microbiota in rats with high-fat diet/streptozotocin(HFD/STZ)-induced diabetes.Specifically,we fully assessed the blood biochemical profiles,pancreatic histopathology,insulin-glucagon immunofluorescence,short-chain fatty acids,and gut microbiota composition of rats with HFD/STZ-induced diabetes before and after FM supplementation.Results showed that both 30% and 48% FM supplementation significantly decreased concentrations of fasting blood glucose,60-min blood glucose,and blood triglycerides(P<0.05);additionally,48% FM supplementation significantly improved blood glucose tolerance and insulin resistance(P<0.05).However,FM supplementation could not effectively repair damage to β-cells over a short period of time.In addition,4 weeks of 48% FM supplementation siginificantly increased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and concentration of butyrate,suggesting that the hypoglycemic effects of FM supplementation might be partially mediated by gut microbiota.Collectively,we found a dose-dependent relationship between FM supplementation and improvement of blood glucose metabolism,but did not find a synergistic effect between FM supplementation and metformin(Met)treatment.Our findings provide further support that consuming more whole-grain FM might be beneficial to individuals suffering from type 2 diabetes. | Xin Ren Linxuan Wang Zenglong Chen Min Zhang Dianzhi Hou Yong Xue Xianmin Diao Ruihai Liu Qun Shen | 2022 | Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,1: | 3 |
| 6 | Blueberry malvidin-3-galactoside modulated gut microbial dysbiosis and microbial TCA cycle KEGG pathway disrupted in a liver cancer model induced by HepG2 cells显示文摘HCC(Hepatocellular Carcinoma)is a critical health issue worldwide.Our previous animal experiment has confirmed that blueberry malvidin-3-galactoside(M3G)can regulate the progression of HCC.In this study,feces samples from the same batch of mice were collected to explore the regulatory mechanism of M3G on intestinal microbiota and microbial TCA cycle metabolism KEGG pathway in HCC mice based on 16S rRNA sequencing and metagenomics.Our results showed that blueberry M3G increased the microbial diversity and regulated the structure of intestinal microbiota in mice,such as increasing the abundance of Clostridia(butyric acid-producing bacteria),Oscillospira and Ruminococcus,and reducing the abundance of pathogenic Erysipelotrichi.Compared with the group of liver cancer and 5-fluorouracil,blueberry M3G significantly regulated microbial TCA cycle KEGG pathway via improving the expression of key proteins(porA,DLAT,aceE,PC and OGDH).Additionally,we found which the abundance of Muribaculum intestinale increased by blueberry M3G may be an important factor affecting the microbial TCA cycle KEGG pathway via the pearson correlation(R)analysis of protein and microbiota.Taken together,these results demonstrate that the blueberry M3G has the potential to be an intestinal microbiota regulator and an adjuvant to HCC therapy. | Zhen Cheng Jie Lin Ningxuan Gao Xiyun Sun Xianjun Meng Ruihai Liu Yunen Liu Weisheng Wang Bin Li Yuehua Wang | 2020 | Food Science and Human Wellness2020,9,3: | 2 |
