| 2 | Whole-genome,transcriptome,and methylome analyses provide insights into the evolution of platycoside biosynthesis in Platycodon grandiflorus,a medicinal plant显示文摘Triterpenoid saponins(TSs)are common plant defense phytochemicals with potential pharmaceutical properties.Platycodon grandiflorus(Campanulaceae)has been traditionally used to treat bronchitis and asthma in East Asia.The oleanane-type TSs,platycosides,are a major component of the P.grandiflorus root extract.Recent studies show that platycosides exhibit anti-inflammatory,antiobesity,anticancer,antiviral,and antiallergy properties.However,the evolutionary history of platycoside biosynthesis genes remains unknown.In this study,we sequenced the genome of P.grandiflorus and investigated the genes involved in platycoside biosynthesis.The draft genome of P.grandiflorus is 680.1 Mb long and contains 40,017 protein-coding genes.Genomic analysis revealed that the CYP716 family genes play a major role in platycoside oxidation.The CYP716 gene family of P.grandiflorus was much larger than that of other Asterid species.Orthologous gene annotation also revealed the expansion ofβ-amyrin synthases(bASs)in P.grandiflorus,which was confirmed by tissue-specific gene expression.In these expanded gene families,we identified key genes showing preferential expression in roots and association with platycoside biosynthesis.In addition,wholegenome bisulfite sequencing showed that CYP716 and bAS genes are hypomethylated in P.grandiflorus,suggesting that epigenetic modification of these two gene families affects platycoside biosynthesis.Thus whole-genome,transcriptome,and methylome data of P.grandiflorus provide novel insights into the regulation of platycoside biosynthesis by CYP716 and bAS gene families. | Jungeun Kim Sang-Ho Kang Sin-Gi Park Tae-Jin Yang Yi Lee Ok Tae Kim Oksung Chung Jungho Lee Jae-Pil Choi Soo-Jin Kwon Keunpyo Lee Byoung-Ohg Ahn Dong Jin Lee Seung-il Yoo In-Gang Shin Yurry Um Dae Young Lee Geum-Soog Kim Chang Pyo Hong Jong Bhak Chang-Kug Kim | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 2 |

| 7 | Upcycling end of lithium cobalt oxide batteries to electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction in direct methanol fuel cell via sustainable approach显示文摘Recycling spent lithium-ion batteries(SLIBs)has become essential to preserve the environment and reclaim vital resources for sustainable development.The typical SLIBs recycling concentrated on separating valuable components had limitations,including high energy consumption and complicated separation processes.This work suggests a safe hydrometallurgical process to recover usable metallic cobalt from depleted LiCoO_(2)batteries by utilizing citric acid as leachant and hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent,with ethanol as a selective precipitating agent.The anode graphite was also recovered and converted to graphene oxide(GO).The above components were directly resynthesized to cobaltintegrated nitrogen-doped graphene(Co@NG).The Co@NG showed a decent activity towards oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)with a half-wave potential of 0.880 V vs.RHE,almost similar to Pt/C(0.888 V vs.RHE)and with an onset potential of 0.92 V vs.RHE.The metal-nitrogen-carbon(Co-N-C)having the highest nitrogen content has decreased the barrier for ORR since the reaction was enhanced for Co@NG-800,as confirmed by density functional theory(DFT)simulations.The Co@NG cathode catalyst coupled with commercial Pt-Ru/C as anode catalyst exhibits excellent performance for direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC)with a peak power density of 34.7 mW cm^(-2)at a discharge current density of120 m A cm^(-2)and decent stability,indicating the promising utilization of spent battery materials in DMFC applications.Besides,lithium was recovered from supernatant as lithium carbonate by coprecipitation process.This work avoids sophisticated elemental separation by utilizing SLIBs for other renewable energy applications,lowering the environmental concerns associated with recycling. | Keyru Serbara Bejigo Kousik Bhunia Jungho Kim Chaehyeon Lee Seoin Back Sang-Jae Kim | 2023 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,7: | 1 |
