Variations in equilibrium line altitude of the Qiyi Glacier,Qilian Mountains, over the past 50 years显示文摘Based on observations of the equilibrium line altitude(ELA)of the Qiyi Glacier in the Qilian Mountain,we established a statistical model between ELA and its major influencing factors, warm season air temperature(air temperature averages for September,July and August)and cold season precipitation(total precipitation in the period January through March).Warm season air temperature was the leading climatic factor influencing ELA variations. The glacier ELA ascends(descends)172 m when warm season air temperature increases(decreases)by 1°C,and ascends(descends)62 m when cold season precipitation decreases(increases)by 10%.In the period 1958-2008,the glacier ELA showed a general increasing trend, ascending 230 m and reaching its highest altitude in 2006 at 5131 m a.s.l.,close to the glacier summit. If future climate is similar to that in the period 2001-2008,the Qiyi Glacier will not stabilize until it retreats by 2.08 km.WANG NingLian HE JianQiao PU JianChen JIANG Xi JING ZheFan 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,33:22
The surface velocity feature of Glacier No.1 at the headwater of Urumqi River,Tianshan Mountain显示文摘The movement of a glacier can redistribute glacier mass balance and change water and thermal conditions of the glacier. Thus, the glacier can maintain its dynamic balance.Surface velocity of a glacier is a basic feature of glacier movement. With successive monthly observations from 2006 to 2008,we obtained spatial and temporal variations for surface velocity of Glacier No.1 at the headwater of Urumqi River,Tianshan Mountain.Dynamic simulation was used to verify the findings. Results show that altitudinal distribution of glacier velocity was influenced by synthetic effects such as glacier thickness, slope, and bedrock morphology. However, seasonal variation was influenced by changing glacier thickness.ZaiMing Zhou ZheFan Jing ShuHui Zhao TianDing Han ZhongQin Li 2009Research in Cold and Arid Regions2009,1,6:3
Diurnal hydrological controls and non-filtration effects on minor and trace elements in stream water draining the Qiyi Glacier, Qilian Mountain显示文摘Diurnal minor and trace elements in glacial outflow water draining the Qiyi Glacier and associated hydrological controls as well as the filtration effects on water chemistry were examined. Results show that major ions, Li, Sr, and Ba are exported predominately as mobile monovalent or divalent ions and are controlled by hydrological variations over the diurnal cycle exhibiting an inverse concentration with discharge, suggesting that Li, Sr, and Ba can be used as tracers in subglacial hydrological investigations. Conversely, other elements (e.g. Fe, Al, and Cr) exhibit variations that are not strongly correlated with the discharge reflecting the physicochemical controls. The non-filtered operation appears not to strongly influence Sr and Ba, but has an effect on some elements such as Fe, Al, V, Ti, and Co, indicating that these changed elements are transported in particulate forms and thus their concentrations are highly dependent on particulate numbers in solutions. This implies that the immediate filtration after sampling is essential in hydrochemical studies at Alpine glacial basins due to subsequent mineral dissolution.LI XiangYing QIN DaHe JING ZheFan LI YueFang WANG NingLian 2013Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,1:3
Feathered sand ridges in the Kumtagh Desert and their position in the classification system显示文摘Feathered sand ridges in the northeastern Kumtagh Desert in China cover an area of 4016 km 2 and consist of crescent sand ridges and interridge tongue-shaped dunes.Differences in grain size, mineral composition and albedo between crescent sand ridges and tongue-shaped dunes, and between windward and leeward slopes of tongue-shaped dunes, result in their feathery appearance in aerial and satellite imagery.Measurements of the sand drift potential in the region show that the sand-moving wind for feathered sand ridges can be divided into three sectors;i.e.north-northeasterly,easterly and east-northeasterly sectors roughly corresponding to the southeast, northwest and southwest slip faces. Our findings suggests that the crescent sand ridges resulting from the connection of barchan dunes along the prevailing wind direction are longitudinal dune ridges rather than transverse ones.Tongue-shaped dunes and quasi-dune shapes have obvious distinctions and are new transverse dune types.According to McKee's dune shape classification, the feathered sand ridges are not a deformation dune type but a complex one.According to Wu's dune morphological and genetic classification, they are not dune ridges or compound dune ridges that form under the action of unidirectional winds or two winds intersecting at an acute angle, but are complex dune ridges that form under the action of three winds intersecting at an acute angle.QU JianJun LIAO KongTai DONG GuangRong NIU QingHe JING ZheFan HAN QinJie 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,8:2

Movement and variation of four typical glaciers in the Qilian Mountains, northwestern China显示文摘We selected four typical glaciers in the Qilian Mountains and investigated their movements and variation using advanced technologies such as remote sensing, photographic measurements, and global positioning systems. The velocity of glacier movements in the Qilian Mountains is relatively low,and there has been no significant variation during the past 50 years.Glacier motion has maintained a normal style. The movement velocity of Laohugou Glacier No.12 presented a decreasing trend(by 48%) from 1960 to 2012.The movement velocity of the Qiyi Glacier also presented a decreasing trend(by 48.1%) from 1958 to 2012; it decreased by 29.4% from 1958 to 1977 and by 26.5% from 1977 to 2012.Therefore,the Qiyi Glacier's movement velocity varied greatly over the earlier 20 years(1958–1977),but presented a small decreasing trend during the latter 30 years(1977–2012).By comparing the movement velocity variation of these typical glaciers,we determined that the extent of variation was consistent among large glaciers(such as Laohugou Glacier No.12) and small glaciers(such as the Qiyi Glacier and Yanglonghe Glacier No.5),despite their different sizes.ZheFan Jing Kun Wang Li Liu 2015Research in Cold and Arid Regions2015,7,3:1
Answering why-not questions on KNN queries显示文摘Being decades of study, the usability of database systems have received more attention in recent years. Now it is especially able to explain missing objects in a query re-sult, which is called “why-not” questions, and is the focus of concern. This paper studies the problem of answering why- not questions on KNN queries. In our real life, many users would like to use KNN queries to investigate the surround-ing circumstances. Nevertheless, they often feel disappointed when finding the result not including their expected objects. In this paper, we use the query refinement approach to re-solve the problem. Given the original KNN query and a set of missing objects as input, our algorithm offer a refined KNN query that includes the missing objects to the user. The ex-perimental results demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed optimizations and algorithms.Zhefan ZHONG Xin LIN Liang HE Jing YANG 2019Frontiers of Computer Science2019,13,5:1

Analysis on factors of glacier velocity:A case study of the Qiyi Glacier,Qilian Mountains显示文摘Glacier shape factors(area, length, and thickness),climatic factors(annual temperature and precipitation),mass balance, and other influence factors,of the Qiyi glacier velocity and their intensity were analyzed with the application of the path analysis method during 1958-2007.Results indicate that glacier velocity was mainly influenced by glacier shape, followed by mass balance and climatic conditions.Among the influence factors, glacier area and thickness are most significant, and direct and indirect path coefficients are respectively 6.56,4.71,19.29 and 13.57.This research provides information for further understanding glacier velocity and its influencing factors.ZheFan Jing Li Liu ZaiMing Zhou YuFeng Deng 2012Research in Cold and Arid Regions2012,4,4:0
