1Performance of biotrickling filters packed with structured or cubic polyurethane sponges for VOC removal显示文摘Two identical bench-scale biotrickling filters (BTFs),BTF 1 and BTF 2,were evaluated for toluene removal at various gas empty bed contact times (EBCTs) and organic loadings.BTF 1 and BTF 2 were packed with structured and cubic synthetic polyurethane sponges,respectively.At a constant toluene loading of 16 g/(m 3 ·hr),toluene removal efficiencies decreased from 98.8% to 64.3% for BTF 1 and from 98.4% to 74.1% for BTF 2 as gas EBCT decreased from 30 to 5 sec.When the toluene loading increased from 35 to 140 g/(m 3 ·hr) at a gas EBCT of 30 sec,the removal efficiencies decreased from 99.1% to 77.4% for BTF 1 and from 99.0% to 81.5% for BTF 2.The pressure drop for both BTFs increased with increased air flow rate,and did not significantly vary while the toluene loading was increased under similar operation conditions.BTF 1 and BTF 2 could start up successfully within 19 and 27 days,respectively,when packed with fresh sponge media,and the performances could be restored in 3-7 days after biomass was removed and wasted from the media.BTF 2 displayed higher removal efficiency even under shorter EBCT or higher loading rate than BTF1 when other operation conditions were similar,while it showed lower pressure drop than BTF 1 during the whole period of operation.These results demonstrated that both BTFs could treat waste gas containing toluene effectively.Chunping Yang Guanlong Yu Guangming Zeng Haining Yang Fayuan Chen Congying Jin 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,8:10
2Cell-free plasma hypermethylated CASZ1, CDH13 and ING2 are promising biomarkers of esophageal cancer显示文摘Identifying sensitive and specific biomarkers for early detection of cancer is immensely imperative for early diagnosis and treatment and better clinical outcome of cancer patients. This study aimed to construct a specific DNA methylation pattern of cancer suppressor genes and explore the feasibility of applying cell-free DNA based methylation as a biomarker for early diagnosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC). We recruited early stage ESCC patients from Yangzhong County, China. The Illumina Infinium 450 K Methylation BeadChip was used to construct a genome-wide DNA methylation profile. Then, differentiated genes were selected for the validation study using the Sequenom MassARRAY platform. The frequency of methylation was compared between cancer tissues, matched cell-free DNAs and normal controls. The specific methylation profiles were constructed, and the sensitivity and specificity were calculated. Seven CG sites in three genes CASZ1, CDH13 and ING2 were significantly hypermethylated in ESCC as compared with normal controls. A significant correlation was found between the methylation of DNA extracted from cancer tissues and matched plasma cell-free DNA, either for individual CG site or for cumulative methylation analysis. The sensitivity and specificity reached 100% at an appropriate cut-point using these specific methylation biomarkers. This study revealed that aberrant DNA methylation is a promising biomarker for molecular diagnosis of esophageal cancer. 4Neuron stem cell NLRP6 sustains hippocampal neurogenesis to resist stress-induced depression显示文摘Neurogenesis decline in hippocampal dentate gyrus(DG)participates in stress-induced depressive-like behaviors,but the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood.Here,we observed low-expression of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 6(NLRP6)in hippocampus of stress-stimulated mice,being consistent with high corticosterone level.NLRP6 was found to be abundantly expressed in neural stem cells(NSCs)of DG.Both Nlrp6 knockout(Nlrp6^(-/-))and NSCconditional Nlrp6 knockout(Nlrp6CKO)mice were susceptible to stress,being more likely to develop depressive-like behaviors.Interestingly,NLRP6 was required for NSC proliferation in sustaining hippocampal neurogenesis and reinforcing stress resilience during growing up.Nlrp6 deficiency promoted esophageal cancer-related gene 4(ECRG4)expression and caused mitochondrial dysfunction.Corticosterone as a stress factor significantly down-regulated NLRP6 expression,damaged mitochondrial function and suppressed cell proliferation in NSCs,which were blocked by Nlrp6 overexpression.ECRG4 knockdown reversed corticosterone-induced NSC mitochondrial function and cell proliferation disorders.Pioglitazone,a well-known clinical drug,up-regulated NLRP6 expression to inhibit ECRG4 expression in its protection against corticosterone-induced NSC mitochondrial dysfunction and proliferation restriction.In conclusion,this study demonstrates that NLRP6 is essential to maintain mitochondrial homeostasis and proliferation in NSCs,and identifies NLRP6 as a promising therapeutic target for hippocampal neurogenesis decline linked to depression.Chuanfeng Tang Qiaona Wang Jingyan Shen Congying Wang Hong Ding Shiyu Wen Fan Yang Ruiqing Jiao Xingxin Wu Jianmei Li Lingdong Kong 2023Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,5:3

6A new catalyst for urea oxidation: NiCo2S4 nanowires modified 3D carbon sponge显示文摘Urea oxidation is a significant reaction for utilizing urea-rich wastewater or human urine as sustainable power sources which can ease the water eutrophication while generate electricity. A direct urea-hydrogen peroxide fuel cell is a new kind of fuel cell employing urea as fuel and hydrogen peroxide as oxidant which possesses a larger cell voltage. Herein, this work tries to promote the kinetics process of urea oxidation by preparing low-cost and high-efficient NiCo2S4 nanowires modified carbon sponge electrode. The carbon sponge used in this work with a similar three-dimensional multi-channel structure to Ni foam, is prepared by carbonizing recycled polyurethane sponge which is also a process of recycling waste. The performance of the prepared catalyst in an alkaline solution is investigated in a three-electrode system.With the introduction of Co element to the catalyst, a reduced initial urea oxidation potential and a high performance are obtained. Furthermore, a direct urea-hydrogen peroxide fuel cell is assembled using the NiCo2S4 nanowires modified carbon sponge anode. 7Resistance Analysis on Major Resistant Genes of Rice Bacterial Blight in Different Donors and Genetic Background显示文摘The different donors of eight rice bacterial blight( BB) major resistant( MR) genes,Xa3,Xa4,xa5,Xa7,Xa10,Xa11,Xa14 and Xa23,were inoculated with two Chinese Xoo strains,strain IV and strain V,respectively. The strain IV was a predominant pathotype in south China,while the strain V was a severe virulentstrain. Two susceptible sterile lines and two susceptible inbred rice were employed to study the effect of geneticbackground on expression of resistance to BB for Xa4,xa5,Xa7 and Xa23. The application value of twodominant resistant genes Xa7 and Xa23 on hybrid rice was also evaluated. The results indicated that the resistance inheritance behaviors of most of the MR genes to the Xoo strains were similar and only a few genes show contradictory reaction in different donors,which suggests that the genetic background would produce an effect on the resistant expression of some R genes. Four resistant donors,IRBB4,IRBB5,IRBB7 and CBB23,were crossed with four susceptible cultivars,WufengA,JitianA,Jingang30 and IR24,respectively,using the resistant donors as male parent. The analysis of F1 populations revealed that the recessive resistance gene xa5 and dominant resistance gene Xa23 conformed to recessive and dominant expression model,respectively,while the other two dominant resistance genes,Xa4 and Xa7,conformed to dominant expression model only in some of F1 populations but not for others. In conclusion,expression of resistance for xa5 and Xa23 was independent of genetic background,while Xa4 and Xa7 show specific behaviors of resistance related to the receptor background. 8Gut microbiota affects the estrus return of sows by regulating the metabolism of sex steroid hormones显示文摘Background Sex hormones play important roles in the estrus return of post-weaning sows.Previous studies have demonstrated a complex and bi-directional regulation between sex hormones and gut microbiota.However,the extent to which the gut microbiota affects estrus return of post-weaning sows is largely unknown.Results In this study,we first screened 207 fecal samples from well-phenotyped sows by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and identified significant associations between microbes and estrus return of post-weaning sows.Using metagenomic sequencing data from 85 fecal samples,we identified 37 bacterial species that were significantly associated with estrus return.Normally returning sows were characterized by increased abundances of L.reuteri and P.copri and decreased abundances of B.fragilis,S.suis,and B.pseudolongum.The changes in gut microbial composition significantly altered the functional capacity of steroid hormone biosynthesis in the gut microbiome.The results were confirmed in a validation cohort.Significant changes in sex steroid hormones and related compounds were found between normal and non-return sows via metabolome analysis.An integrated analysis of differential bacterial species,metagenome,and fecal metabolome provided evidence that normal return-associated bacterial species L.reuteri and Prevotella spp.participated in the degradation of pregnenolone,progesterone,and testosterone,thereby promoting estrogen biosynthesis.Furthermore,the microbial metabolites related to sow energy and nutrient supply or metabolic disorders also showed relationships with sow estrus return.Conclusions An integrated analysis of differentially abundant bacterial species,metagenome,and fecal metabolome revealed the involvement of L.reuteri and Prevotella spp.in sow estrus return.These findings provide deep insight into the role of gut microbiota in the estrus return of post-weaning sows and the complex cross-talk between gut microbiota and sex hormones,suggesting that the manipulation of the gut microbiota could be an effective strategy to improve sow estrus return after weaning.Min Liu Jia Zhang Yunyan Zhou Shuqi Xiong Mengqing Zhou Lin Wu Qin Liu Zhe Chen Hui Jiang Jiawen Yang Yuxin Liu Yaxiang Wang Congying Chen Lusheng Huang 2024Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2024,15,2:0
9Loss of 4.1N in epithelial ovarian cancer results in EMT and matrix-detached cell death resistance显示文摘Epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC)is one of the leading causes of death from gynecologic cancers and peritoneal dissemination is the major cause of death in patients with EOC.Although the loss of 4.1N is associated with increased risk of malignancy,its association with EOC remains unclear.To explore the underlying mechanism of the loss of 4.1N in constitutive activation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)and matrixdetached cell death resistance,we investigated samples from 268 formalin-fixed EOC tissues and performed various in vitro and in vivo assays.We report that the loss of 4.1N correlated with progress in clinical stage,as well as poor survival in EOC patients.The loss of 4.1N induces EMT in adherent EOC cells and its expression inhibits anoikis resistance and EMT by directly binding and accelerating the degradation of 14-3-3 in suspension EOC cells.Furthermore,the loss of 4.1N could increase the rate of entosis,which aggravates cell death resistance in suspension EOC cells.Moreover,xenograft tumors in nude mice also show that the loss of 4.1N can aggravate peritoneal dissemination of EOC cells.Single-agent and combination therapy with a ROCK inhibitor and a 14-3-3 antagonist can reduce tumor spread to varying degrees.Our results not only define the vital role of 4.1N loss in inducing EMT,anoikis resistance,and entosis-induced cell death resistance in EOC,but also suggest that individual or combined application of 4.1N,14-3-3 antagonists,and entosis inhibitors may be a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of EOC.Dandan Wang Letian Zhang Ajin Hu Yuxiang Wang Yan Liu Jing Yang Ningning Du Xiuli An Congying Wu Congrong Liu 2021Protein & Cell2021,12,2:0
10Development of Specific DNA Markers for Detecting the Rice Blast Resistance Gene Alleles Pi2/9/z-t显示文摘Specific molecular markers for detecting the alleles of Pi2/Pi9/Piz-t,designated as Pi2 SNP,Pi9 SNP and Pizt-PA,respectively,have been successfully developed through sequence comparison method.These three specific markers can distinctly distinguish target genes from others mapped on Pi2/9 locus,which facilitates the molecular marker-assistant selection and the development of pyramiding cultivars combined with other allele R genes.Additionally,101 main cultivars and breeding parents collected from different rice-planting areas have been diagnosed with these three specific markers,and the results showed that only 2 out of the 101 cultivars carried Piz-t,but neither Pi2 nor Pi9 band had been detected.It indicates that most of the main cultivars and breeding parents in China do not carry Pi2/Pi9/Piz-t.These results provide important information for the application of Pi2/Pi9/Piz-t in the blast resistance breeding programs.Jing SU Wenjuan WANG Shen CHEN Congying WANG Jianyuan YANG Aiqing Feng Xiaoyuan ZHU 2020Agricultural Biotechnology2020,9,5:0
11Single-shot terahertz polarization detection based on terahertz time-domain spectroscopy显示文摘This paper presents a novel design for single-shot terahertz polarization detection based on terahertz time-domain spectroscopy(THz-TDS).Its validity has been confirmed by comparing its detection results with those of the THz common-path spectral interferometer through two separate measurements for the orthogonal components.Our results also show that its detection signal-to-noise ratios(SNRs)are obviously superior to those of the 45°optical bias THz-TDS by electro-optical sampling due to its operation on common-path spectral interference rather than the polarization-sensitive intensity modulation.The setup works without need of any optical scan,which does not only save time,but also efficiently avoids the disturbances from the fluctuations of the system and environment.Its single-shot mode allows it to work well for the applications with poor or no repeatability.QINGGANG LIN XINMING YUAN XUANKE ZENG YATAO YANG YI CAI XIAOWEI LU MAIJIE ZHENG CONGYING WANG WENHUA CAO SHIXIANG XU 2022Photonics Research2022,10,6:0
