| 1 | Biological treatments as a mean to improve feed utilization in agriculture animals——An overview显示文摘As a result of agriculture practices, million tons of agriculture are produced as a secondary or by-products; however, with low nutritive values. Many methods are applied to improve the nutritive value and increase its utilization in ruminant's nutrition. The biological treatments are the most common with more safe-treated products. In most cases, the biological treatments are paralleled with decreased crude fiber and fiber fractions content with increased crude protein content. Direct-fed microbial and exogenous enzymes to animal are other ways of biological methods for improving nutritive value of feeds. | 2 | Rectal tone and compliance affected in patients with fecal incontinence after fistulotomy显示文摘AIM: To investigate the anal sphincter and rectal factors that may be involved in fecal incontinence that develops following fistulotomy(FIAF).METHODS: Eleven patients with FIAF were compared with 11 patients with idiopathic fecal incontinence and with 11 asymptomatic healthy subjects(HS). All of the study participants underwent anorectal manometry and a barostat study(rectal sensitivity, tone, compliance and capacity). The mean time since surgery was 28 ± 26 mo. The postoperative continence score was 14 ± 2.5(95%CI: 12.4-15.5, St Mark's fecal incontinence grading system).RESULTS: Compared with the HS, the FIAF patients showed increased rectal tone(42.63 ± 27.69 vs 103.5 ± 51.13, P = 0.002) and less rectal compliance(4.95 ± 3.43 vs 11.77 ± 6.9, P = 0.009). No significant differences were found between the FIAF patients and the HS with respect to the rectal capacity; thresholds for the non-noxious stimuli of first sensation, gas sensation and urge-to-defecate sensation or the noxious stimulus of pain; anal resting pressure or squeeze pressure; or the frequency or percentage of relaxation of the rectoanal inhibitory reflex. No significant differences were found between the FIAF patients and the patients with idiopathic fecal incontinence.CONCLUSION: In patients with FIAF, normal motor anal sphincter function and rectal sensitivity are preserved, but rectal tone and compliance are impaired. | 4 | Current and novel approaches in the pharmacological treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most lethal malignant tumours worldwide.The mortality-to-incidence ratio is up to 91.6%in many countries,representing the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths.Systemic drugs,including the multikinase inhibitors sorafenib and lenvatinib,are first-line drugs used in HCC treatment.Unfortunately,these therapies are ineffective in most cases due to late diagnosis and the development of tumour resistance.Thus,novel pharmacological alternatives are urgently needed.For instance,immune checkpoint inhibitors have provided new approaches targeting cells of the immune system.Furthermore,monoclonal antibodies against programmed cell death-1 have shown benefits in HCC patients.In addition,drug combinations,including first-line treatment and immunotherapy,as well as drug repurposing,are promising novel therapeutic alternatives.Here,we review the current and novel pharmacological approaches to fight HCC.Preclinical studies,as well as approved and ongoing clinical trials for liver cancer treatment,are discussed.The pharmacological opportunities analysed here should lead to significant improvement in HCC therapy. | Fernanda Villarruel-Melquiades María Eugenia Mendoza-Garrido Claudia M García-Cuellar Yesennia Sánchez-Pérez Julio Isael Pérez-Carreón Javier Camacho | 2023 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2023，29，17： | 2 |
