| 1 | Dual Functions of Microglia in Ischemic Stroke显示文摘Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Resident microglia are the principal immune cells of the brain, and the first to respond to the pathophysiological changes induced by ischemic stroke. Traditionally, it has been thought that microglial activation is deleterious in ischemic stroke, and therapies to suppress it have been intensively explored. However,increasing evidence suggests that microglial activation is also critical for neurogenesis, angiogenesis, and synaptic remodeling, thereby promoting functional recovery after cerebral ischemia. Here, we comprehensively review the dual role of microglia during the different phases of ischemic stroke, and the possible mechanisms controlling the post-ischemic activity of microglia. | 5 | GIS-based risk analysis of debris flow:an application in Sichuan,southwest China显示文摘Debris flow is a serious geologic hazard in China.It is estimated that nationally debris flows cause up to 2 billion RMB(250 million US$) in damages and 300-600 deaths and injuries annually.To mitigate debris flow hazards,it is necessary to map,model,and identify zones of debris flow hazards and vulnerability as to inform the local people about the potential risk with a geographic information system.This research presents a regional scale case study modeling debris flow risk(hazard and vulnerability) in Sichuan Province,Southwestern China.In this area,3,290 debris flows have been identified and the spatial-temporal distribution and activity characteristics of them have been documented.Based on the available meteorological data,a Digital Elevation Model with the rate of 1:250,000 and a regional geological map,the 24-hr rainfall threshold(y) for debris flow occurrence is closely related(significant at 99% confidence level) to the index(x) defined using a geology factor(rock hardness:a) and a topographical factor(channel gradient:d) where y = 21 + 10200 / x,in which x = 2.7 × ea + 1000 × d.The discipline is constructive in developing the rainfall threshold for debris flow activity in remote mountainous areas that lack data.For a given watershed,a four-level debris flow hazard map is developed by comparing the rainfall threshold to the design rainfall intensities with 50-,20-,and 5-year average recurrence intervals,respectively.The degree of debris flow vulnerability is determined by the watershed socio-economic conditions.A four-class debris flow risk map,at the final phase of the research,is generated by combining debris flow hazards and vulnerability.With the debris flow risk assessment,the Sichuan Province is classified into the slight,moderate,severe and very severe regions,which accounts for 36%,19%,20% and 25% of total area respectively. | B. | 6 | PERSPECTIVES IN MECHANICS OF HETEROGENEOUS SOLIDS显示文摘The Microand Nano-mechanics Working Group of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics organized a forum to discuss the perspectives,trends,and directions in mechanics of heterogeneous materials in January 2010.The international journal,Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica,is devoted to all fields of solid mechanics and relevant disciplines in science,technology,and engineering,with a balanced coverage on analytical,experimental,numerical and applied investigations.On the occasion of the 30 th anniversary of Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica,its editor-in-chief,Professor Q.S.Zheng invited some of the forum participants to review the state-of-the-art of mechanics of heterogeneous solids,with a particular emphasis on the recent research development results of Chinese scientists.Their reviews are organized into five research areas as reported in different sections of this paper.§I firstly brings in focus on microand nano-mechanics,with regards to several selective topics,including multiscale coupled models and computational methods,nanocrystal superlattices,surface effects,micromechanical damage mechanics,and microstructural evolution of metals and shape memory alloys.§II shows discussions on multifield coupled mechanical phenomena,e.g.,multi-fields actuations of liquid crystal polymer networks,mechanical behavior of materials under radiations,and micromechanics of heterogeneous materials.In §III,we mainly address the multiscale mechanics of biological nanocomposites,biological adhesive surface mechanics,wetting and dewetting phenomena on microstructured solid surfaces.The phononic crystals and manipulation of elastic waves were elaborated in §IV.Finally,we conclude with a series of perspectives on solid mechanics.This review will set a primary goal of future science research and engineering application on solid mechanics with the effort of social and economic development. | C.Q. | 13 | Microstructures and mechanical properties of Ti3Al/Ni-based superalloy joints brazed with AuNi filler metal显示文摘For the purpose of high-temperature service and the weight reduction in aviation engineering applications, the dissimilar joining of Ti3Al-based alloy to Ni-based superalloy (GH536) was conducted using Au-17.5Ni (wt%) brazing filler metal. The microstructure and chemical composition at the interfaces were investigated by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. The diffusion behaviors of elements were analyzed as well. The results indicated that the Ti3Al/GH536 joint microstructure was characterized by multiple layer structures. Element Ni from Au-Ni filler metal reacted with Ti3Al base metal, leading to the formation of AlNi2Ti and NiTi compounds. Element Ni from Ti3Al base metal reacted with Ni and thus Ni3Nb phase was detected in the joint central area. Due to the dissolution of Ni-based superalloy,(Ni,Au) solid solution ((Ni,Au)ss) and Ni-rich phase were visible adjacent to the superalloy side. The average tensile strength of all the joints brazed at 1253 K for 5-20 min was above 356 MPa at room-temperature. In particular, the joints brazed at 1253 K/15 min presented the maximum tensile strength of434 MPa at room-temperature, and the strength of 314 MPa was maintained at 923 K. | 16 | Interfacial bonding mechanism in Al/coated steel dissimilar refill friction stir spot welds显示文摘Defect-free dissimilar Al/zinc coated steel and Al/AlSi coated steel welds were successfully fabricated by refill friction stir spot welding. However, Al alloy and uncoated steel could not be welded under the same welding condition. Al-Zn eutectic layer formed at the Al/zinc coated steel interface showed nonuniformity in thickness and nanoscale intermetallic(IMC) produced was discontinuous. The bonding formation between the Al-Zn layer and the surrounding materials was attributed to a liquid/solid reaction mechanism. Bonding formation at Al alloy and AlSi coated steel interface was attributed to a solid/solid reaction mechanism, as the joining process did not involve with melting of base metals or AlSi coating materials. Kissing bond formed at the weld boundary acted as a crack initiation and propagation site,and the present study showed that weld strength of Al 5754/AlSi coated steel was greatly influenced by properties of original IMC layer. | Z. | 17 | Interface Structure of Ag/SnO_2 Nanocomposite Fabricated by Reactive Synthesis显示文摘The electric contact material of Ag/SnO2 composite was achieved by reactive synthesis method. The compositions and microstructure of Ag/SnO2 composite were analyzed and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and high-resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM). The structural feature was typical of the particle reinforced composites. The HRTEM images revealed that the observed Ag/SnO2 interface was absence of the precipitated phase and the lattice contrast across the interface was clear and sharp. The average particle size of SnO2 in composite was near 50 nm and it was well dispersed in spherical shape. The thermodynamic mechanism of reactive synthesis method was also discussed. The electronic density distribution analysis of the interface showed the charges of Ag atoms transmitted to O atoms and the conductivity of the material was also affected. No extra compounds expected such as AgxOy formed at interface. The distribution of electrons was of inequality near the interface which explained why the mechanical property of the metal/ceramic materials was improved but the machining property declined. | Jingchao Chen Jing Feng B. Experimental results confirmed two kinds of boron-reduced grain refinement mechanisms through refining either β phase then α phase (β-refinement) or α phase directly (α-refinement) to refine lamellar microstructure at room temperature; however, the role of α-refinement dominated the as-cast lamellar microstructure refinement over β-refinement in Ti45Al8NbxB alloy.
