NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF ROUND TO OVAL ROLLING PROCESS显示文摘Three dimensional thermal-mechanical coupled elasto-plastic FEM has been used for simulation of round to oval single pass rolling. The analysis was conducted using MARC/AUTOFORCE1. 2 code. The material is assumed to be elasto-plastic and it obey the Von Mises yield criterion and Prandtl- Reuss rule. Deformation of the workpiece is simulated in a step-by-step manner, updating the coordinates of material points and the property after each step, so that both nonsteady-state and stendy-state deformation can be simulated. The heat transfter between the workpiece, the rolls, and enviroment and the heat generation due to plastic work and friction force, are considered in the analys- is.Predicted the deformation shape of the workpiece, distributions of strains, stresses, strain rates and temperatures, roll-separating force and roll torque are presented.Y. 2Effect of Deformation Temperature on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AZ31 Mg Alloy Processed by Differential-Speed Rolling显示文摘A differential-speed rolling(DSR) was applied to AZ31 magnesium alloy sample at different rolling temperatures of 473,523,573,and 623 K with 1-pass and 2-pass operations. The microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the deformed samples were investigated. The rolling temperature was found to be an important parameter affecting the microstructural development. After DSR at 473 K,the microstructure was more homogeneous than that obtained after deformation by equal-speed rolling(ESR).The fully recrystallized microstructures were generated after DSR at 573 and 623 K.As to mechanical properties, the yield strength(YS) and ultimate tensile strength(UTS) decreased monotonously with increasing rolling temperature. In contrast, the elongation of the DSR-deformed samples was improved as the rolling temperature increased. The strain hardening exponent(n) calculated by Hollomon equation increased with increasing the rolling temperature, which would explain an increase in the uniform elongation.Mosab Kaseem Bong Kwon Chung Hae Woong Yang Kotiba Hamad Young Gun Ko 2015Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,5:19

Tension and Thickness Control Strategy Analysis of Two Stands Reversible Cold Rolling Mill显示文摘In order to lucubrate the rolling characteristic of the two stands reversible cold rolling mill and establish the tension and thickness control strategy, the steady-state characteristic simulating program was established using the steady-state continuous rolling theory. The influences of each factor on exit thickness under different tension control methods were analyzed. The results show that, the influence of the entry stand gap on exit thickness is significant and it changes little with different tension control methods. As a result, the entry stand gap can be used as the main control method of exit thickness, whereas rolling speed of any stand and roll gap of the exit stand can be used to adjust the inter-stand tension. The results are beneficial for thickness and tension control of the two stands reversible cold rolling mill.LIU Guang-ming1, DI Hong-shuang2, ZHOU Cun-long1, LI Hong-cui3, LIU Jiang3 (1. 6Review on the effect of different processing techniques on the microstructure and mechanical behaviour of AZ31 Magnesium alloy显示文摘Magnesium(Mg)alloys despite being the ideal candidate for structural applications, owing to their high specific strength and low density, are not widely used due to lack of active slip systems at room temperature in their hexagonal close-packed crystal structure, eliciting poor ductility and formability.Amongst the various series of Mg alloys, the AZ and ZK series alloys have been standouts,as they inherit better room temperature strength and flow characteristics through their solute elements.Grain refinement,as well as eliminating casting defects through metal processing techniques are vital for the commercial viability of these alloys since they play a key role in controlling the mechanical behaviour. As such, this review highlights the effect of different Bulk-deformation and Severe Plastic Deformation techniques on the crystal orientation and the corresponding mechanical behaviours of the AZ31 alloy. However, every process parameter surrounding these techniques must be well thought of,as they require specially designed tools. With the advent of finite element analysis, these processes could be computationally realized for different parameters and optimized in an economically viable manner.Hence, this article also covers the developments made in finite element methods towards these techniques.Rakshith M. 7Rolling texture and its effect on tensile property of a near-α titanium alloy Ti60 plate显示文摘Rolling texture and its effect on tensile properties of Ti60 alloy plates were investigated in the present study. The plates were β-rolled at 1070℃ and(α+β)-rolled at 980℃, using uni-directionally rolling(UDR) and cross-directionally rolling(CDR) processes, respectively.β-rolled plates exhibited weak textures, which were attributed to the dispersive orientations of secondary α during the β→α phase transformation. Strong deformation textures formed in(α+β)-rolled plates as a result of slipping mechanisms: the strong T-type texture in UDR plate was related to {10 1 0}[11 2 0] slipping, while the B-type texture in CDR plate was relevant with {0001}[11 2 0] slip. Strong T-type textures led to anisotropic tensile properties. B-type textures would decrease such an anisotropy. The(α+β)-CDR process was found to be a candidate process for reducing anisotropy of Ti60 alloy plates.Wenyuan Li Zhiyong Chen Jianrong Liu Shaoxiang Zhu Guoxin Sui Qingjiang Wang 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,5:11
Effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties of heavily cold-rolled Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy sheet显示文摘Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy has excellent soft magnetic properties, but it is hard to be cold-rolled due to appearance of ordered phases in this alloy. In this paper we report that ultra thin Fe-6.5wt%Si sheet of 0.05 mm thick was obtained by heavily cold rolling.By means of optical microscope,micro-hardness indenter, instron,SEM and X-ray diffraction, the effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties of this alloy sheet was investigated. The heavily cold-rolled sheet exhibits some extent of ductility. The ultimate tensile strength reaches 1.93 GPa.After heat treatment,micro-hardness is decreased and the ductility is lost, especially at temperature above 650℃ when recrystallization takes place. The reason for decreasing the ductility lies in the ordered DO3 phase transformation.LIANG YongFeng,YE Feng,LIN JunPin,WANG YanLi,ZHANG LaiQi & CHEN GuoLiang State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials,University of Science and Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,4:10
Numerical Simulation of Viscous Flow Around a Rolling Cylinder with Ship-Like Section显示文摘Two-dimensional unsteady incompressible viscous flow around a rolling cylinder with ship-like section is numerically simulated by employing the computational scheme previously developed by the authors, in which the continuity and momentum equations are satisfied simultaneously at each time step for oscillating flow. The numerical results show that the motion of vortices around a rolling ship hull is cyclical. It is found that the location of the vortices is very similar to the existing experimental result. Using these simulation results, we can calculate the roll damping of ships including viscous effects.1995China Ocean Engineering1995,10,1:9
Deformation Behavior and Microstructure Evolution of Wrought Magnesium Alloys显示文摘There are many researches on the deformation behavior of wrought magnesium alloys, such as AZ31, AZ80, AZ91, and ZK60 magnesium alloys at different temperatures and strain rates, but few of them focuses on the deformation behavior of AZ41M and ZK60M alloys, especially under the twin-roll casting (TRC) state. Meanwhile, the existing researches only focus on the grain refinement law of the magnesium alloys under deformation conditions, the deformation mechanism has not been revealed yet. The hot compression behavior of AZ41M and ZK60M magnesium alloys under the temperature and strain rate ranges of 250-400 ℃ and 0.001-1 s-1 are studied by thermal simulation methods using Gleeble 1500 machine and virtual simulation using finite element analysis software. Simulation results show that sine hyperbolic law is the most suitable flow stress model for wider deformation conditions. The most reasonable selected deformation conditions of ZK60M alloy is 350 oC/0.1 s-1 for TRC and 350 oC/1 s-1 for conventional casting (CC), while AZ41M alloy is 300 oC/0.01 s-1 for TRC and 350 oC/0.1 s-1 for CC. Deformation behavior and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) mechanism of them are analyzed at the same deformation conditions. The microstructures of AZ41M and ZK60M alloys are observed at different deformed conditions by optical microscopy (OM) and electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD) and it reveals the flow behavior and deformation mechanism of them. Working harden and work soften contribute to the activation of basal, non-basal slip systems which promote DRX. The proposed research reveals the deformation behavior and mechanism of the AZ41M and ZK 60M magnesium alloys and concludes their optimized deformation parameters and processes and provides a theory basis for their manufacturing and application.WANG Shouren SONG Linghui KANG Sukbong CHO Jaehyung WANG Yingzi 2013Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2013,26,3:9
An improved process for grain refinement of large 2219 Al alloy rings and its influence on mechanical properties显示文摘The large 2219 Al alloy rings used to connect propellant tank components of a satellite launch vehicle to each other are conventionally manufactured by radial-axial ring rolling at 460°C with 50% deformation, but often suffer from coarse elongated grain and low ductility. An improved process(hot ring rolling at460°C with 30% deformation, then air cooling to 240°C, followed by ring rolling at 240°C with 20% deformation) was tested for ring manufacturing. The corresponding microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the produced rings were studied. The results show that the improved process can successfully be applied to manufacture the large 2219 Al alloy rings without formation of macroscopic defects, resulting in a product with fine and uniform grains after heat treatment. The fracture mechanism of both rings was mainly intergranular fracture. With the resulting grain size refinement due to the improved process, more homogeneous slip occured and the crack propagation path became more tortuous during the tensile testing process. Thus, the elongation in all three orthogonal directions was greatly improved, and the axial elongation increased from 3.5% to 10.0%.Hailin He Youping Yi Shiquan Huang Yuxun Zhang 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,1:9
PHYSICAL SIMULATION OF INTERFACIAL CONDITIONS IN HOT FORMING OF STEELS显示文摘In the last few years, substantial experimental simulation and mumerical modelling hare been carried out in IMMPETUS to characterise the interfacial heat transfer and friction conditions during hot forging and rolling of steels. Emphasis has been placed on the influence of the oxide scale which forms on the steel workpiece. In the present paper, the experimental methods used for investigating interfacial heat transfer and friction conditions are described. Theses include hot flat rolling of steel slabs and hot axi- symmetric forging of steel cylinders and rings.Temperature measurements and computations demon- strate that for similar conditions, similar conditions, the effective interfacial heat transfer coefficients (IHTC) derived for hot rolling are significantly higher than those for forging, mainly due to the contribution of scale cracking during rolling. On the basis of experimental observations and numerical analysis, physical models for interfacial heat transfer in forging and rolling have been established. In addition, hot' sandwich' rolling and hot tensile tests with finite element modelling have been carried out to evaluate the hot ductility of the oxide scale. The results indicate that the defomation, cracking and decohesion behaviour of the oxide scale depend on deformation temperature, strain and relative strengths of the scale layer and scale - steel interface.Finaly, friction results from hot ring compression tests and from hot rolling with forward/backward slip measurements are reported.Y. 13A novel unified model predicting flow stress and grain size evolutions during hot working of non-uniform as-cast 42CrMo billets显示文摘The cast preformed forming process(CPFP) is increasingly considered and applied in the metal forming industries due to its short process, low cost, and environmental friendliness, especially in the aerospace field. However, how to establish a unified model of a non-uniform as-cast billet depicting the flow stress and microstructure evolution behaviors during hot working is the key to microstructure prediction and parameter optimization of the CPFP. In this work, hot compression tests are performed using a non-uniform as-cast 42 CrMo billet at 1123–1423 K and 0.01–1sà1. The effect laws of the non-uniform state of the as-cast billet with different initial grain sizes on the flow stress and microstructure are revealed deeply. Based on experimental results, a unified model of flow stress and grain size evolutions is developed by the internal variable modeling method. Verified results show that the model can well describe the responses of the flow stress and microstructure to deformation conditions and initial grain sizes. To further evaluate its reliability, the unified model is applied to FE simulation of the cast preformed ring rolling process. The predictions of the rolling force and grain size indicate that it could well describe the flow stress and microstructure evolutions during the process.Lianggang GUO Fengqi WANG Pengliang ZHEN Xuechao LI Mei ZHAN 2019Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2019,32,2:8
Influence of rolling temperature on the interfaces and mechanical performance of graphene-reinforced aluminum-matrix composites显示文摘To study the influence of rolling on the interfaces and mechanical performance of graphene-reinforced Al-matrix composites,a rolling method was used to process them.Using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Raman spectroscopy, and tensile testing, this study analyzed the micromorphology, interfaces, and mechanical performance of the composites before and after rolling. The experimental results demonstrates that the composites after hot rolling has uniform structures with strong interfacial bonding. With an increase in rolling temperature, the tensile strength and elastic modulus of the composites gradually increase. However, when the rolling temperature is higher than 500°C,granular and rod-like Al4C3 phases are observed at the interfaces and the mechanical performance of the composites is degraded. When the rolling temperature is 480°C,the composites show the optimal comprehensive mechanical performance, with a tensile strength and elastic modulus of 403.3 MPa and 77.6 GPa,respectively, which represent increases of 31.6%and 36.9%,respectively,compared with the corresponding values prior to rolling.Chen-yang Huang Shui-ping Hu Kai Chen 2019International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2019,26,6:8
Earth observation satellite scheduling for emergency tasks显示文摘The earth observation satellites(EOSs)scheduling problem for emergency tasks often presents many challenges. For example, the scheduling calculation should be completed in seconds, the scheduled task rate is supposed to be as high as possible, the disturbance measure of the scheme should be as low as possible, which may lead to the loss of important observation opportunities and data transmission delays.Existing scheduling algorithms are not designed for these requirements.Consequently,we propose a rolling horizon strategy(RHS)based on event triggering as well as a heuristic algorithm based on direct insertion, shifting, backtracking, deletion, and reinsertion(ISBDR).In the RHS,the driven scheduling mode based on the emergency task arrival and control station time window events are designed to transform the long-term,large-scale problem into a short-term,small-scale problem, which can improve the schedulability of the original scheduling scheme and emergency response sensitivity. In the ISBDR algorithm, the shifting rule with breadth search capability and backtracking rule with depth search capability are established to realize the rapid adjustment of the original plan and improve the overall benefit of the plan and early completion of emergency tasks.Simultaneously, two heuristic factors, namely the emergency task urgency degree and task conflict degree, are constructed to improve the emergency task scheduling guidance and algorithm efficiency. Finally,we conduct extensive experiments by means of simulations to compare the algorithms based on ISBDR and direct insertion, shifting, deletion, and reinsertion(ISDR).The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve the timeliness of emergency tasks and scheduling performance, and decrease the disturbance measure of the scheme, therefore,it is more suitable for emergency task scheduling.SUN Haiquan XIA Wei HU Xiaoxuan XU Chongyan 2019Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2019,30,5:8
Effect of Cold Rolling on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AISI 301LN Metastable Austenitic Stainless Steels显示文摘The microstructure and mechanical properties evolution of AISI 301LN metastable austenitic stainless steels during cold rolling were investigated. A wide range of cold thickness reduction (10%-80%) was carried out in a four-high rolling mill at ambient temperature. The X-ray and Feritscope MP30 were used to identify the strain-induced α′-martensite phase and its volume fraction, respectively. The microstructure was observed by optical micrograph and the mechanical properties were determined by tensile tests and microhardness. The results show that the strain-induced α′-martensite nucleated at the shear bands intersections and the growth of α′-martensite occurred by the repeated nucleation of new embryos. The volume fraction of strain-induced α′-martensite increased with increasing the cold rolling reduction. In addition, the percentage increased in the tensile strength is the same as that of hardness. The ratio between the average tensile strength and the average microhardness was found to range between 2.82 and 3.17.HUANG Jun-xia1, YE Xiao-ning1, XU Zhou2 (1. 18Mechanical properties of Cu based composites reinforced by carbon nanotubes显示文摘Cu based composites reinforced by 0%~25% (volume fraction) carbon nanotubes were prepared. The fracture behaviors and the rolling properties of the composites and the effects of the volume fraction of the carbon nanotubes were studied. The experimental results show that the fracture toughness of the composites is related to the pulling out and bridging of the carbon nanotubes in the fracture process. With the volume fraction of the carbon nanotubes increasing, the Vicker’s hardness and the compactness of the composites increase first and then decrease. The peaks of the hardness and the compactness occur at 12%~15% of volume fraction of carbon nanotubes. Some proper ratio of rolling reduction benefits to the comprehensive mechanical properties of the composites.Dong Shurong(董树荣) Zhang Xiaobin(张孝彬) 1999中国有色金属学会会刊:英文版1999,9,3:7
Improving fatigue performance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy via ultrasonic surface rolling process显示文摘The effect of a gradient nanostructured(GNS) surface layer obtained by ultrasonic surface rolling process(USRP) on the fatigue behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy has been studied in this paper. Microstructure, surface topography, surface roughness and residual stress measurements were performed to characterize the surface under different conditions. Rotating bending fatigue tests were carried out to evaluate the fatigue behavior of different treatments. The results present a remarkable fatigue performance enhancement for the Ti-6Al-4V alloy with a GNS surface layer obtained by application of USRP with respect to the untreated condition, notwithstanding its considerable surface roughness due to severe ultrasonic impacts and extrusions. Mechanical surface polishing treatment further enhances the beneficial effects of USRP on the fatigue performance. The significantly improved fatigue performance can mainly be ascribed to the compressive residual stress. Simultaneously, the GNS surface layer and surface work hardening have a synergistic effect that accompanies the effect of compressive residual stress.Chengsong Liu Daoxin Liu Xiaohua Zhang Dan Liu Amin Ma Ni Ao Xingchen Xu 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,8:7
Gearbox fault diagnosis of rolling mills using multiwavelet sliding window neighboring coefficient denoising and optimal blind deconvolution显示文摘Fault diagnosis of rolling mills, especially the main drive gearbox, is of great importance to the high quality products and long-term safe operation. However, the useful fault information is usually submerged in heavy background noise under the severe condition. Thereby, a novel method based on multiwavelet sliding window neighboring coefficient denoising and optimal blind deconvolution is proposed for gearbox fault diagnosis in rolling mills. The emerging multiwavelets can seize the important signal processing properties simultaneously. Owing to the multiple scaling and wavelet basis functions, they have the supreme possibility of matching various features. Due to the periodicity of gearbox signals, sliding window is recommended to conduct local threshold denoising, so as to avoid the 'overkill' of conventional universal thresholding techniques. Meanwhile, neighboring coefficient denoising, considering the correlation of the coefficients, is introduced to effectively process the noisy signals in every sliding window. Thus, multiwavelet sliding window neighboring coefficient denoising not only can perform excellent fault extraction, but also accords with the essence of gearbox fault features. On the other hand, optimal blind deconvolution is carried out to highlight the denoised features for operators' easy identification. The filter length is vital for the effective and meaningful results. Hence, the foremost filter length selection based on the kurtosis is discussed in order to full benefits of this technique. The new method is applied to two gearbox fault diagnostic cases of hot strip finishing mills, compared with multiwavelet and scalar wavelet methods with/without optimal blind deconvolution. The results show that it could enhance the ability of fault detection for the main drive gearboxes.YUAN Jing HE ZhengJia ZI YanYang LIU Han 2009Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,10:7
