| 4 | Effects of yeast and yeast cell wall polysaccharides supplementation on beef cattle growth performance, rumen microbial populations and lipopolysaccharides production显示文摘This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of live yeast and yeast cell wall polysaccharides on growth performance,rumen function and plasma lipopolysaccharides(LPS) content and immunity parameters of beef cattle.Forty Qinchuan cattle were randomly assigned to one of four treatments with 10 replicates in each treatment.The dietary treatments were: control diet(CTR),CTR supplemented with 1 g live yeast(2×10^10 live cell g^-1 per cattle per day(YST1),CTR supplemented with 2 g live yeast per cattle per day(YST2) and CTR supplemented with 20 g of yeast cell wall polysaccharides(30.0%≤β-glucan≤35.0%,and 28.0%≤mannanoligosaccharide≤32.0%) per cattle per day(YCW).The average daily gain was higher(P=0.023) and feed conversion ratio was lower(P=0.042) for the YST2 than the CTR.The digestibility of neutral detergent fiber(P=0.039) and acid detergent fiber(P=0.016) were higher in yeast supplemented groups.The acetic acid:propionic acid of the YST2 was lower compared with the CTR(P=0.033).Plasma LPS(P=0.032),acute phase protein haptoglobin(P=0.033),plasma amyloid A(P=0.015) and histamine(P=0.038) were lower in the YST2 compared with the CTR.The copies of fibrolytic microbial populations such as Fibrobacter succinogenes S85,Ruminococcus albus 7 and Ruminococcus flavefaciens FD-1 of the YST2 were higher(P<0.001),while the copies of typical lactate producing bacteria Streptococcus bovis JB1 was lower(P<0.001) compared with the CTR.Little differences were observed between the CTR,YST1 and YCW in growth performance,ruminal fermentation characteristics,microbial populations,immunity indices and total tract nutrient digestibility.It is concluded that the YST2 could promote fibrolytic microbial populations,decrease starch-utilizing bacteria,reduce LPS production in the rumen and LPS absorption into plasma and decrease inflammatory parameters,which can lead to an improvement in growth performance in beef cattle. | PENG Quan-hui CHENG Long KANG Kun Tian Gang Mohammad Al-Mamun XUE Bai WANG Li-zhi ZOU Hua-wei Mathew Gitau Gicheha WANG Zhi-sheng | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2020,19,3: | 9 |
| 5 | Cogitation on developing a dynamic model of soil wind erosion显示文摘Studies on soil wind erosion began with single factors affecting soil wind erosion; with increasing quantities of data being accumulated,the wind erosion equation(WEQ),the revised wind erosion equation(RWEQ),the wind erosion prediction system(WEPS),and other soil wind erosion models have been successively established,and great advances have been achieved.Here we briefly review the soil wind erosion research course and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the current soil wind erosion models.From the perspective of the dynamics of wind erosion,we classified the factors affecting soil wind erosion into three categories,namely,wind erosivity factors(WEF),soil antierodibility factors(SAF),and roughness interference factors(RIF).We proposed the concept of a standard plot of soil wind erosion to solve the problem of uncertainty of the soil wind erosion modulus on a spatial scale,and provided methods to set similarity conditions in wind tunnel simulation experiments and to convert the spatial scale of the wind erosion modulus from the standard plot to a large scale field.We also proposed a conceptual model on the basis of the dynamics of soil wind erosion with the theoretical basis that wind produces a shear force on the soil surface.This shear force is partitioned by barely erodible soil surfaces and roughness elements on the ground,and the amount of soil loss by wind should be calculated by comparing the shear force of the wind on barely erodible soil surfaces with the anti-erosion force of the surface soil.One advantage of this conceptual model is that the calculated soil wind erosion modulus is not subject to changes of spatial scale.Finally,we recommended continual improvement of the existing models while also establishing new models. | ZOU XueYong ZHANG ChunLai CHENG Hong KANG LiQiang WU YongQiu | 2015 | Science China Earth Sciences2015,58,3: | 9 |

| 8 | Transcriptomic analyses identify albino-associated genes of a novel albino tea germplasm ‘Huabai 1’显示文摘Albinism in shoots of tea plants is a common phenotypic expression which gives the tea infusion a pleasant umami taste.A novel natural albino mutant tea germplasm containing high amino acids content was found and named as‘Huabai 1’.‘Huabai 1’has white jade tender shoots under low temperature and turns green with increased temperature.In order to understand the molecular mechanism of color change in leaf of‘Huabai 1’,transcriptome analysis was performed to identify albino-associated differentially expressed genes(DEGs).A total of 483 DEGs were identified from white shoots of‘Huabai 1’compared to its green shoots.There were 15 DEGs identified to be involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,which account for the majority of characterized DEGs.The metabolites related to phenylpropanoid biosynthesis revealed similar expression pattern of DEGs.Furthermore,metabolic pathways such as ubiquonone,tyrosine,and flavonoid biosynthesis associated with phenylpropanoid biosynthesis could also contribute to the color change in‘Huabai 1’tender shoots.Protein–protein interaction analysis revealed a hub protein NEDD8(CSA009575)which interacted with many regulated genes in spliceosome,nitrogen metabolism,phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,and other pathways.In conclusion,the findings in this study indicate that the color change of‘Huabai 1’tender shoots is a combined effect of phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway and other metabolic pathways including flavonoid biosynthesis in tea plants.Chlorophyll biosynthesis-related genes LHCII and SGR may also play some roles in color change of‘Huabai 1’. | Qingping Ma Huan Li Zhongwei Zou Emmanuel Arkorful Qianru Lv Qiongqiong Zhou Xuan Chen Kang Sun Xinghui Li | 2018 | Horticulture Research2018,5,1: | 7 |
| 9 | Active dry yeast supplementation improves the growth performance,rumen fermentation, and immune response of weaned beef calves显示文摘The objective of this experiment was to investigate the potential benefits of active dry yeast(ADY)on the growth performance,rumen fermentation,nutrient digestibility,and serum parameters of weaned beef calves.Thirty Simmental crossbred male calves(body weight=86.47±4.41 kg and 70±4 d of age)were randomly divided into 2 groups:control(CON)(fed basal ration)and ADY(fed basal ration and 5 g/d ADY per calf).The dietary concentrate-to-roughage ratio was 35:65.All the calves were regularly provided rations 3 times a day at 07:00,13:00,and 19:00 and had free access to wate r.The experiment lasted for 60 d.The average daily gain of ADY group was higher(P=0.007)than that of the CON group,and the ratio of feed intake to average daily gain in the ADY group was reduced(P=0.022)as compared to the CON group.The concentration of ruminal ammonia-N was higher(P=0.023)in the CON group than that in the ADY group,but an opposite trend of microbial protein was found between the 2 groups.Also,the ruminal concentrations of propionate and butyrate were higher(P<0.05)in the ADY group than those in the CON group.Calves fed ADY exhibited higher(P<0.05)crude protein and neutral detergent fiber digestibility.Supplementation of ADY increased(P<0.05)the contents of glucose,glutathione peroxidase,superoxide dismutase,immunoglobulin A,immunoglobulin M,and interleukin 10 in the serum of calves,but an opposite trend was observed in malondialdehyde,interleukin 1 beta,and tumor necrosis factor alpha contents between the 2 groups.In conclusion,dietary supplementation with ADY could improve the growth performance,rumen fermentation,nutrient digestibility,antioxidant ability,and immune response of weaned beef calves. | Jian Ma Cheng Wang Zhisheng Wang Guang Cao Rui Hu Xueying Wang Huawei Zou Kun Kang Quanhui Peng Bai Xue Lizhi Wang Yueming Zhu Xiaopeng Zhu | 2021 | Animal Nutrition2021,,4: | 7 |
| 10 | Magnetic resonance evaluation of transplanted mesenchymal stem cells after myocardial infarction in swine显示文摘Objectives To trace and evaluate intracoronary transplanted mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) labeled with superparamagnetic iron oxide(SPIO) by using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in a swine model of myocardial infarction (MI).Methods MSCs were transfected with a lentiviral vector carrying the gene encoding green fluorescent protein (GFP) and labeled in vitro with SPIO.Two weeks after MI, swine were randomized to intracoronary transplantation of dual -labeled MSCs(n = 10),MSCs-GFP(n = 10) and saline(n = 5).MRI examination was performed with a 1.5T clinical scanner at 24 hours,3 weeks and 8 weeks after cells transplantation. Signal intensity(SI) changes,cardiac function and MI size were measured using MRI.Correlation between MR findings and histomorphologic findings was also investigated. Results The labeling efficiency at a combination of 25μg Fe/ml SPIO and 0.8 pi/ml Lipofectamine 2000 reached 100%.SPIO labeling did not affect GFP fluorescence and dual-labeling did not affect cell proliferation(P>0.05). Multipotentiality was not affected especially for cardiomyocyte-like cells differentiation.Cardiac cell marker of a-MHC and actinin were positively expressed by immunofluorescence staining after induction.SI on T2 * WI decreased substantial- ly in the interventricular septum 24 hours after injection of MSCs.The intensity of hypo-intense signals appeared to increase throughout the later time points.Changes in SI at 24 hours,3 weeks and 8 weeks were 52.98%±10.74%,21.53%±5.40%and 6.23%±2.01%,respectively(P<0.01).DE-MRI demonstrated both dual-labeled MSCSs and MSCs-GFP could dramatically reduce the size of MI and improve cardiac function. Histological data revealed that prussian blue stain-positive cells were found mainly in the border zone which also showed green fluorescence but negative for macrophage marker(CD68).Gross pathologic examination revealed that engrafted MSCs dramatically reduce the extent of necrotic myocardium and promote the regeneration of new,contractile myocardium along the subendocardial surface of the MI. | 11 | Mutual regulation between microRNA-373 and methyl-CpGbinding domain protein 2 in hilar cholangiocarcinoma显示文摘AIM:To investigate the reciprocal modulation between microRNA(miRNA) and DNA methylation via exploring the correlation between miR-373 and methyl-CpGbinding domain protein(MBD)2.METHODS:MiR-373 expression was examined using the TaqMan miRNA assay.Methylation of miR-373 was investigated using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction,and recruitment of methyl binding proteins was studied using the chromatin immunoprecipitation assay.Mutation analysis was conducted using the QuikChange Site-Directed Mutagenesis kit.The activity of miR-373 gene promoter constructs and targeting at MBD2-three prime untranslated region(3'UTR) by miR-373 were evaluated by a dual-luciferase reporter gene assay.RESULTS:In hilar cholangiocarcinoma,miR-373 decreased and was closely associated with poor cell differentiation,advanced clinical stage,and shorter survival.The promoter-associated CpG island of miR-373 gene was hypermethylated and inhibited expression of miR-373.MBD2 was up-regulated and enriched at the promoter-associated CpG island of miR-373.Methylation-mediated suppression of miR-373 required MBD2 enrichment at the promoter-associated CpG island,and miR-373 negatively regulated MBD2 expression through targeting the 3'UTR.CONCLUSION:MiR-373 behaves as a direct transcriptional target and negative regulator of MBD2 activity through a feedback loop of CpG island methylation. | Yong-Jun Chen Jian Luo Guang-Yao Yang Kang Yang Song-Qi Wen Sheng-Quan Zou | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,29: | 6 |
| 12 | Maturity Control on the Patterns of Hydrocarbon Regeneration from Coal显示文摘Rock-Eval pyrolysis and Py-GC experiments on naturally and artificially matured coal samples were carried out. The results suggest that both depolymerization and defuctionalization exist during the maturation and evolution of coal. The patterns of hydrocarbon regeneration are diverse at different stages of the maturation and evolution. When the vitrinite reflectance (R0) is 0.7%-0.9%, bitumen is the richest in coal while activation energy is the minimum, and the temperature of peak yield is lower than that of primary hydrocarbon generation. However, if reflectance is greater than 0.9%, defunctionalization predominates and the temperature of peak regeneration is shown in lagging compared with the primary hydrocarbon generation. | 13 | Receptor tyrosine kinases positively regulate BACE activity and Amyloid-β production through enhancing BACE internalization显示文摘Amyloid-β (AP) peptide, the primary constituent of senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD), is generated byβ-secretase- and γ-secretase-mediated sequential proteolysis of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). The aspartic pro-tease, β -site APP cleavage enzyme (BACE), has been identified as the main P-secretase in brain but the regulation of itsactivity is largely unclear. Here, we demonstrate that both BACE activity and subsequent Aβ production are enhancedafter stimulation of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), such as the receptors for epidermal growth factor (EGF) and nervegrowth factor (NGF), in cultured cells as well as in mouse hippocampus. Furthermore, stimulation of RTKs also inducesBACE internalization into endosomes and Golgi apparatus. This enhancement of BACE activity and Aβ production uponRTK activation could be specifically inhibited by Src family kinase inhibitors and by depletion of endogenous c-Src withRNAi, and could be mimicked by over-expressed c-Src. Moreover, blockage of BACE internalization by a dominantnegative form of Rab5 also abolished the enhancement of BACE activity and Aβ production, indicating the requirementof BACE internalization for the enhanced activity. | 14 | Diffusion tensor imaging of the brain in patients with Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular lesions显示文摘Background:Recent autopsy study showed a high incidence of cerebrovascular lesions in Alzheimer's disease(AD).To assess the impact of cerebrovascular pathology in AD,we used diffusion tensor imaging(DTI) to study AD patients with and without cerebrovascular lesions.Materials and Methods:Conventional and DTI scans were obtained from 10 patients with probable AD,10 AD/V patients(probable AD with cerebrovascular lesions) and ten normal controls.Mean diffusivity(D) and fractional anisotropy(FA) values of some structures involved with AD pathology were measured.Results:D value was higher in AD patients than in controls in hippocampus and the cingulate gyrus.In AD/V patients,increased D value was found in the same structures and also in the thalamus and basal ganglia compared to controls.There was a significant difference of D value between AD and AD/V patients.FA value reduced in the white matter of left inferior temporal gyrus and in the bilateral middle cingulate gyrus in patients with AD/V compared with controls.The MMSE(mini-mental state examination) score significantly correlated with FA value in the right hippocampus(r=0.639,P<0.019),in the right anterior cingulate gyrus(r=0.587,P<0.035) and in left parahippocampal gyrus(r=0.559,P<0.047).Conclusion:Cerebrovascular pathology had stronger impact on the D value than the AD pathology alone did.Elevated D value in thalamic and basal ganglia may contribute to cognitive decline in AD/V patients.Reduced FA values in AD/V patients may indicate that cerebrovascular pathology induced more severe white matter damage than the AD pathology alone did. | CHEN Shao-qiong KANG Zhuang HU Xi-quan HU Bing ZOU Yan | 2007 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2007,8,4: | 5 |

By using the in-situ TPO, XRD, and IR techniques to study the mechanism of Zn_2SiO_4 formation under operating conditions, it was found that the coexistence of acid and hydrothermal conditions could accelerate the formation of Zn_2SiO_4. | 16 | SHY2 as a node in the regulation of root meristem development by auxin, brassinosteroids, and cytokinin显示文摘In multicellular organisms,the balance be-tween cell division and differentiation determines organ size,and represents a central unknown in devel-opmental biology.In Arabidopsis roots,this balance is mediated between cytokinin and auxin through a reg-ulatory circuit converging on the IAA3/SHORT HYPO-COTYL 2(SHY2)gene.Here,we show that crosstalk between brassinosteroids(BRs)and auxin occurs in the vascular transition zone to promote root meristem de-velopment.We found that BR increases root meristem size by up-regulating expression of the PINFORMED 7(PIN7)gene and down-regulating expression of the SHY2 gene.In addition,BES1 could directly bind to the pro-moter regions of both PIN7 and SHY2,indicating that PIN7 and SHY2 mediate the BR-induced growth of the root meristem by serving as direct targets of BES1.Moreover,the PIN7 overexpression and loss-of-function SHY2 mutant were sensitive to the effects of BR and could partially suppress the short-root phenotypes associated with deficient BR signaling.Interestingly,BRs could inhibit the accumulation of SHY2 protein in response to cytokinin.Taken together,these findings suggest that a complex equilibrium model exists in which regulatory interactions among BRs,auxin,and cytokinin regulate optimal root growth. | Taotao Li Xinke Kang Wei Lei Xiuhong Yao Lijuan Zou Dawei Zhang Honghui Lin | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,10: | 5 |
| 17 | Group VB transition metal dichalcogenides for oxygen reduction reaction and strain-enhanced activity governed by p-orbital electrons of chalcogen显示文摘Developi ng alter native oxyge n reducti on reactio n (ORR) catalysts to replace precious Pt-based metals with abundant materials is the key challe nge of commercial application of fuel cells. Owing to their various compositi ons and tun able electronic properties, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have the great potential to realize high-efficiency catalysts for ORR. Here, various 3R-phase dichalcogenides of group VB and VIB transition metals (MX2, M = Nb, Ta, Mo, W;X = S, Se, Te) are investigated for ORR catalysts by using density functional theory calculations. The computed over-potentials of group VB TMDs are much less than those of group VIB TMDs. For group VB TMDs, a volcano-type plot of ORR catalytic activity is established on the adsorption energies of *OH, and NbS2 and TaTe2 exhibit best ORR activity with an oveepotential of 0.54 V. To achieve even better activity, strain engineering is performed to tune ORR catalytic activity, and the minimum over-potential of 0.43 V can be realized. | 20 | Differences in the Efficiency of Potassium(K) Uptake and Use in Five Apple Rootstock Genotypes显示文摘Plants that grow well while accumulating and transporting less potassium(K) perform better than more-sensitive plants when under deficiency conditions, which makes low-K-input and environmentally friendly agriculture possible. We conducted hydroponics and sand culture experiments to evaluate the efficiency of various apple(Malus domestica Borkh) rootstocks in their K uptake and utilization. Five genotypes were selected which are widely used in China- M. hupehensis Rehd, M. prunifolia Borkh, M. robusta Rehd, M. sieversii Roem, and M. rockii Rehd. Plant heights, root and shoot dry weights, and K concentrations were recorded. These genotypes differed markedly in dry weights, absolute and relative K concentrations, absolute and relative K accumulations, and their K efficiency ratio under deficient K conditions. The last parameter, expressed as relative shoot dry weight, was strongly and positively correlated with the other four parameters in each genotype. Therefore, we suggest that this parameter could serve as an index when selecting K-efficient genotypes.
