1Chinese deserts and sand fields in Last Glacial Maximum and Holocene Optimum显示文摘The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, c. 26-16 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (HO, c. 9-5 ka) were characterized by cold-dry and warm-wet climates respectively in the recently geological Earth. How Chinese deserts and sand fields responded to these distinctive climatic changes is still not clear, however. To reconstruct environments of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO is helpful to understand the forcing mechanisms of environment change in this arid region, and to test paleoclimatic modeling results. Through our long-term field and laboratory investigations, 400 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages and more than 100 depositional records in the Chinese deserts and sand fields were obtained; on the basis of these data, we reconstruct spatial distributions of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO. Our results show that the sand fields of Mu Us, Hunshandake, Horqin and Hulun Buir in northern and northeastern China had expanded 25%, 37%, 38% and 270%, respectively, during the LGM; the sand fields of Gonghe in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau had expanded 20%, and the deserts of Badain Jaran, Tengger in central northern China had expanded 39% and 29% separately during the LGM; the deserts of Taklimakan, Gurbantünggüt and Kumtag in northwestern China had expanded 10%-20% respectively, compared to their modern areas. On the other hand, all of the sand fields were nearly completely covered by vegetation during the HO; the deserts in northwestern and central northern China were reduced by around 5%-20% in area during this time. Lakes in this arid region were probably expanded during the HO but this conclusion needs more investigation. Compared with the geological distributions of deserts and sand fields, human activity has clearly changed (expanded) the area of active sand dunes at the present time. 3Age and geochemistry of the Neoproterozoic granitoids in the the Songnen–Zhangguangcai Range Massif, NE China: Petrogenesis and tectonic implications显示文摘The Songnen–Zhangguangcai Range Massif(SZRM)is located in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt and crops out over an extensive part of NE China.The massif was originally thought to contain numerous Precambrian terranes(e.g.,Xingdong,Dongfengshan,Yimianpo and Zhangguangcailing groups).However,more recent zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the majority of these so-called Precambrian sedimentary and igneous rocks actually formed during either the Paleozoic or Mesozoic and contain only minor Precambrian components(Wang et al.,2014).The presence of Neoproterozoic and Paleoproterozoic detrital zircons with magmatic origins from and Paleozoic units of the SZRM indicating that this area occurs Proterozoic magmatism(Wang et al.,2014),whereas no Proterozoic magmastism has been found.Recently,Pei et al.(2007)reported the ca.1800Ma magmastism,as evidenced by the data of exploration drillholes in the southern Songliao basin.However,an alternative view is that the basement within the SZRM is predominantly Phanerozoic,as evidenced by the presence of Paleozoic fossils and comparatively rare geochronological data(Guo and Liu,1985;Wu et al.,2011),meaning that the ca.1800 Ma rocks in this area may be a tectonically emplaced slice of the North China Craton(Zhang et al.,2005).All of this means that the age and nature of the SZRM basement,and whether this area records Neoproterozoic magmatism,remain unclear.This study presents new geochronological,whole-rock geochemical,and zircon Hf isotopic data for early Proterozoic granitoids within the eastern margin of the SZRM of NE China.These data provide insights into the Neoproterozoic tectonic setting of the SZRM and the links between this magmatism and the evolution of the Rodinia supercontinent.The zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the Neoproterozoic magmatism within the SZRM can be subdivided into two stages:(1)a^917–911 Ma suite of syenogranites and monzogranites,and(2)an^841 Ma suite of granodiorites.The 917–911 Ma granitoids contain high concentrations of Si O2(67.89–71.18 wt.%),K2O(4.24–6.91 wt.%),and Al2O3(14.89–16.14 wt.%),and low concentrations of TFe2O3(1.63–3.70 wt.%)and Mg O(0.53–0.88 wt.%).They are enriched in the light rare earth elements(LREE)and the light ion lithophile elements(LILE),are depleted in the heavy REE(HREE)and the heavy field strength elements(HFSE;e.g.,Nb,Ta,and Ti),and have slightly positive Eu anomalies,indicating they are geochemically similar to high-K adakitic rocks.They have zirconεHf(t)values and TDM2 ages from–4.4 to+1.5and from 1915 Ma to 1592 Ma,respectively,suggesting they were derived from a primary magma generated by the partial melting of ancient thickened lower crustal material.In comparison,the 841 Ma granodiorites contain relatively low concentrations of Al2O3(14.50–14.58 wt.%)and K2O(3.27–3.29 wt.%),relatively high concentrations of TFe2O3(3.78–3.81 wt.%)and the HREE,have negative Eu anomalies,and have zirconεHf(t)values and TDM2ages from–4.7 to+1.0 and from 1875 to 1559 Ma,respectively.These granodiorites formed from a primary magma generated by the partial melting of ancient crustal material.The^917–911 Ma magmatism within the SZRM is inferred to have formed in an orogenic setting,whereas the^841 Ma magmatism formed in an anorogenic setting related to either a post-orogenic tectonic event or the onset of Neoproterozoic continental rifting.It is proposed that the microcontinental massifs within the SZRM formed during or following the final stage of assembly of Rodinia before rifting away from the Tarim Craton in response to Rodinia breakup.LUAN Jinpeng XU Wenliang WANG Feng WANG Zhiwei GUO Peng 2017Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,S1:13
4Validation of risk scoring models for predicting stroke-associated pneumonia in patients with ischaemic stroke显示文摘Objective:Various risk scoring models have been developed to predict stroke-associated pneumonia(SAP).We aim to determine whether these risk models could effectively predict SAP in Chinese patients with ischaemic stroke(IS).Methods:Consecutive patients with IS in West China hospital between January 2011 and September 2013 were included to assess the predictive performance of risk scoring models,including Chumbler’s score,A^(2)DS^(2) and AISAPS.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)was used to evaluate the performance of each risk model in predicting pneumonia.Results:A total of 1569 consecutive patients with IS within 30 days of onset in West China hospital were included.The incidence of pneumonia is 15.3%.The AUROC of Chumbler’s score,A^(2)DS^(2) and AISAPS was 0.659,0.728 and 0.758,respectively,and AISAPS had the highest AUROC.Conclusions:A^(2)DS^(2) and AISAPS had acceptable discriminatory abilities to predict SAP in Chinese patients with IS within 30 days of onset.Siyin Gong Zhiwei Zhou Muke Zhou Zhao Lei Jian Guo Ning Chen Li He 2016Stroke & Vascular Neurology2016,1,3:11
5Scalable volumetric imaging for ultrahigh-speed brain mapping at synaptic resolution显示文摘The speed of high-resolution optical imaging has been a rate-limiting factor for meso-scale mapping of brain structures and functional circuits,which is of fundamental importance for neuroscience research.Here,we describe a new microscopy method of Volumetric Imaging with Synchronized on-the-fly-scan and Readout(VISo R)for high-throughput,high-quality brain mapping.Combining synchronized scanning beam illumination and oblique imaging over cleared tissue sections in smooth motion,the VISo R system effectively eliminates motion blur to obtain undistorted images.By continuously imaging moving samples without stopping,the system achieves high-speed 3D image acquisition of an entire mouse brain within1.5 hours,at a resolution capable of visualizing synaptic spines.A pipeline is developed for sample preparation,imaging,3D image reconstruction and quantification.Our approach is compatible with immunofluorescence methods,enabling flexible cell-type specific brain mapping and is readily scalable for large biological samples such as primate brains.Using this system,we examined behaviorally relevant whole-brain neuronal activation in 16 c-Fos-sh EGFP mice under resting or forced swimming conditions.Our results indicate the involvement of multiple subcortical areas in stress response.Intriguingly,neuronal activation in these areas exhibits striking individual variability among different animals,suggesting the necessity of sufficient cohort size for such studies.Hao Wang Qingyuan Zhu Lufeng Ding Yan Shen Chao-Yu Yang Fang Xu Chang Shu Yujie Guo Zhiwei Xiong Qinghong Shan Fan Jia Peng Su Qian-Ru Yang Bing Li Yuxiao Cheng Xiaobin He Xi Chen Feng Wu Jiang-Ning Zhou Fuqiang Xu Hua Han Pak-Ming Lau Guo-Qiang Bi 2019National Science Review2019,6,5:7
6Industrialization prospects for hydrogen production by coal gasification in supercritical water and novel thermodynamic cycle power generation system with no pollution emission显示文摘Energy conversion and utilization, particularly carbon-based fuel burning in air phase, have caused great environmental pollution and serious problems to society. The reactions in water phase may have the potential to realize clean and efficient energy conversion and utilization. Coal gasification in supercritical water is a typical carbon-based fuel conversion process in water phase, and it takes the advantages of the unique chemical and physical properties of supercritical water to convert organic matter in coal to H2 and CO2. N, S, P, Hg and other elements are deposited as inorganic salts to avoid pollution emission. The State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering has obtained extensive experimental and theoretical results based on coal gasification in supercritical water. Supercritical water fluidized bed reactor was developed for coal gasification and seven kinds of typical feedstock were selected. The hydrogen yield covers from 0.67 to 1.74 Nm3/kg and the carbon gasification efficiency is no less than 97%. This technology has a bright future in industrialization not only in electricity generation but also in hydrogen production and high value-added chemicals. Given the gas yield obtained in laboratory-scale unit, the hydrogen production cost is U.S.$ 0.111 Nm3 when the throughput capacity is 2000 t/d. A novel thermodynamic cycle power generation system based on coal gasification in supercritical water was proposed with the obvious advantages of high coal-electricity conversion efficiency and zero pollutant emission. The cost of U.S.$ 3.69 billion for desulfuration, denitration and dust removal in China in 2013 would have been saved with this technology. Five kinds of heat supply methods are analyzed and the rates of return of investment are roughly estimated. 70.75 Gbit/s high-speed classical key distribution with mode-shift keying chaos synchronization of Fabry–Perot lasers显示文摘High-speed physical key distribution is diligently pursued for secure communication.In this paper,we propose and experimentally demonstrate a scheme of high-speed key distribution using mode-shift keying chaos synchronization between two multi-longitudinal-mode Fabry–Perot lasers commonly driven by a super-luminescent diode.Legitimate users dynamically select one of the longitudinal modes according to private control codes to achieve mode-shift keying chaos synchronization.The two remote chaotic light waveforms are quantized to generate two raw random bit streams,and then those bits corresponding to chaos synchronization are sifted as shared keys by comparing the control codes.In this method,the transition time,i.e.,the chaos synchronization recovery time is determined by the rising time of the control codes rather than the laser transition response time,so the key distribution rate is improved greatly.Our experiment achieved a 0.75-Gbit/s key distribution rate with a bit error rate of 3.8×10^(−3)over 160-km fiber transmission with dispersion compensation.The entropy rate of the laser chaos is evaluated as 16 Gbit/s,which determines the ultimate final key rate together with the key generation ratio.It is therefore believed that the method pays a way for Gbit/s physical key distribution.Hua Gao Anbang Wang Longsheng Wang Zhiwei Jia Yuanyuan Guo Zhensen Gao Lianshan Yan Yuwen Qin Yuncai Wang 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,9:7
8STING signaling activation inhibits HBV replication and attenuates the severity of liver injury and HBV-induced fibrosis显示文摘The covalently closed circular DNA(cccDNA)of HBV plays a crucial role in viral persistence and is also a risk factor for developing HBV-induced diseases,including liver fibrosis.Stimulator of interferon genes(STING),a master regulator of DNA-mediated innate immune activation,is a potential therapeutic target for viral infection and virus-related diseases.In this study,agonist-induced STING signaling activation in macrophages was revealed to inhibit cccDNA-mediated transcription and HBV replication via epigenetic modification in hepatocytes.Notably,STING activation could efficiently attenuate the severity of liver injury and fibrosis in a chronic recombinant cccDNA(rcccDNA)mouse model,which is a proven suitable research platform for HBV-induced fibrosis.Mechanistically,STING-activated autophagic flux could suppress macrophage inflammasome activation,leading to the amelioration of liver injury and HBV-induced fibrosis.Overall,the activation of STING signaling could inhibit HBV replication through epigenetic suppression of cccDNA and alleviate HBV-induced liver fibrosis through the suppression of macrophage inflammasome activation by activating autophagic flux in a chronic HBV mouse model.This study suggests that targeting the STING signaling pathway may be an important therapeutic strategy to protect against persistent HBV replication and HBV-induced fibrosis.Yuqi Li Minjing He Ziyu Wang Zhiyun Duan Zhiwei Guo Ziteng Wang Ruijie Gong Tianhao Chu Jiabin Cai Bo Gao 2022Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,1:7
9Numerical and experimental investigations of liquid mixing in two-stage micro-impinging stream reactors显示文摘A two-stage micro-impinging stream reactor(TS-MISR) that combined a first pre-mixing stage with a second micro-impinging stream reacting stage for continuous multi-component reacting systems has been built from commercial T-junctions and steel micro-capillaries. Both of operating parameters and reactor configurations,such as jet Reynolds number(Rej), volumetric flow ratio(R), the first-stage junction angle(φ), the connecting capillary length(Lc) and connecting capillary diameter(dc), had significant effects on the micromixing efficiency of the reactor. Such effects were investigated for both of the two stage structures, respectively, by experimental and CFD methods and were optimized for the best micromixing performance. 10Structural insights into a high fidelity variant of SpCas9显示文摘The RNA-guided endonucleases of the CRISPR-Cas9 system, including the most w泊ely used Cas9 from Streptococcus pyogenes (SpCas9)z are becoming a robust genome editing tool in model organisms and hold immense promise for therapeutic applications. Many strategies have bee n employed to overcome the limitati ons caused by SpCas9zs off-target effects and its strin gent requirement for the protospacer adjacent motif (PAM) sequenee. However, the structural mechanisms underlying these strategies remain undefined. Here, we present crystal structure of a SpCas9 variant, xCas9 3.7 that has broad PAM compatibility and high DNA targeting specificity, in complex with a single-guide RNA and its double-stranded DNA targets. Structural comparison revealed that salt bridge-stabilized R1335 is critical for the stringent selection of PAM sequence by SpCas9. Unrestricted rotamerization of this residue by the E1219V mutation in xCas9 3.7 lessens the stringency for PAM recognition and allows SpCas9 to recognize multiple PAM sequences as further supported by biochemical data. Compared to those in wild-type (WT) SpCas9, REC2 and REC3 domains in xCas9 3.7 un dergo striki ng conformati onal changes, leadi ng to reduced con tact with DNA substrate. SpCas9 mutants en gineered to display less interaction with DNA and have conformationally more flexible REC2 and REC3 domains display enhanced specificity for DNA substrates in both biochemical and cellular assays. 12Optimized coagulation pretreatment alleviates ultrafiltration membrane fouling: The role of floc properties and slow-mixing speed on mechanisms of chitosan-assisted coagulation显示文摘To alleviate ultrafiltration(UF) membrane fouling, the pre-coagulation of poly-aluminum chloride(PACl) with the aid of chitosan(CTS) was conducted for synthetic humic acid–kaolin water treatment. Pre-coagulation of three molecular weights(MW) CTSs(50–190 kDa(CTSL), 190–310 kDa(CTSM) and 310–375 kDa(CTSH)) was optimized with slow-mixing speeds of 30, 60 and 90 r/min, respectively. The removal efficiency and floc properties as well as membrane fouling were analyzed, and were compared to results obtained by conventional coagulation with PACl. Results showed that variations in floc properties could be ascribed to the coagulation mechanisms of CTS_L/CTS_M/CTS_H at different slow-mixing speeds, resulting in reduced UF membrane fouling. Specifically, at the low speed of 30 r/min, all three CTS types produced flocs with similar properties, while CTSLresulted in the lowest removal efficiency and aggravated irreversible fouling. At the appropriate speed of 60 r/min, CTSMgenerated the most compact flocs with the combined effects of bridging and path mechanisms. The compact cake layer formed could alleviate irreversible fouling,which was beneficial for prolonging the operation of the UF membrane. At the high speed of90 r/min, CTSHformed fragile flocs and aggravated irreversible membrane fouling. 13Designing soft/hard double network hydrogel microsphere/UHMWPE composites to promote water lubrication performance显示文摘Several soft tissues residing in the living body have excellent hydration lubrication properties and can provide effective protection during relative motion.In order to apply this advantage of soft matters in practical applications and try to avoid its disadvantage,such as swelling and weakening in water,a design strategy of a soft/hard double network(DN)hydrogel microsphere modified ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)composite is proposed in this study.A series of microspheres of urea-formaldehyde(UF),polyacrylamide(PAAm)hydrogel,UF/PAAm double network,and their composites were prepared.The mechanical properties,swelling,wettability,friction properties,and the lubrication mechanisms of the composites were investigated.The results show that DN microspheres can have an excellent stability and provide hydration lubrication.The performance of 75 DN-1 composite was superior to others.This finding will provide a novel strategy for the development of water-lubricated materials and have wide application in engineering fields.Chaobao WANG Xiuqin BAI Conglin DONG Zhiwei GUO Chengqing YUAN Anne NEVILLE 2021Friction2021,9,3:3
14LPI radar signal detection based on the combination of FFT and segmented autocorrelation plus PAHT显示文摘This paper proposes a desirable method to detect different kinds of low probability of intercept(LPI) radar signals, targeted at the main intra-pulse modulation method of LPI radar signals including the signals of linear frequency modulation, phase code,and frequency code. Firstly, it improves the coherent integration of LPI radar signals by adding the periodicity of the ambiguity function. Then, it develops a frequency domain detection method based on fast Fourier transform(FFT) and segmented autocorrelation function to detect signals without features of linear frequency modulation by virtue of the distribution characteristics of noise signals in the frequency domain. Finally, this paper gives a verification of the performance of the method for different signal-to-noise ratios by conducting simulation experiments, and compares the method with existing ones. 15Sensitivity of topological edge states in a non-Hermitian dimer chain显示文摘Photonic topological edge states in one-dimensional dimer chains have long been thought to be robust to structural perturbations by mapping the topological Su–Schrieffer–Heeger model of a solid-state system.However,the edge states at the two ends of a finite topological dimer chain will interact as a result of near-field coupling.This leads to deviation from topological protection by the chiral symmetry from the exact zero energy,weakening the robustness of the topological edge state.With the aid of non-Hermitian physics,the splitting frequencies of edge states can be degenerated again,with topological protection recovered by altering the gain or loss strength of the structure.This point of coalescence is known as the exceptional point(EP).The intriguing physical properties of EPs in topological structures give rise to many fascinating and counterintuitive phenomena.In this work,based on a finite non-Hermitian dimer chain composed of ultra-subwavelength resonators,we propose theoretically and verify experimentally that the sensitivity of topological edge states is greatly affected when the system passes through the EP.Using the EP of a non-Hermitian dimer chain,we realize a new sensor that is sensitive to perturbation of on-site frequency at the end of the structure and yet topologically protected from internal perturbation of site-to-site couplings.Our demonstration of a non-Hermitian topological structure with an EP paves the way for the development of novel sensors that are not sensitive to internal manufacturing errors but are highly sensitive to changes in the external environment.Zhiwei Guo Tengzhou Zhang Juan Song Haitao Jiang Hong Chen 2021Photonics Research2021,9,4:3

20Anomalous unidirectional excitation of high-k hyperbolic modes using all-electric metasources显示文摘The unidirectional excitation of near-field optical modes is a fundamental prerequisite for many photonic applications,such as wireless power transfer and information communications.We experimentally construct all-electric Huygens and spin metasources and demonstrate anomalous unidirectional excitation of high-k hyperbolic modes in two types of hyperbolic metasurfaces.We use a Huygens metasource to study the unidirectional excitation of hyperbolic bulk modes in a planar hyperbolic metamaterial(HMM).Specifically,unidirectional excitation is the same as that in free space in the vertical direction,but opposite to that in free space in the horizontal direction.This anomalous unidirectional excitation is determined by the anisotropic HMM dispersion.In addition,we use a spin metasource to observe the anomalous photonic spin Hall effect in a planar hyperbolic waveguide.For a near-field source with a specific spin,the guide mode with a fixed directional wave vector is excited due to spin-momentum locking.Because the directions of momentum and energy flows in the HMM waveguide are opposite,the unidirectional excitation of hyperbolic guided modes is reversed.Our results not only uncover the sophisticated electromagnetic functionalities of metasources in the near-field but may also provide novel opportunities for the development of integrated optical devices.Zhiwei Guo Yang Long Haitao Jiang Jie Ren Hong Chen 2021Advanced Photonics2021,3,3:3
