| 1 | Introduction of rice chitinase gene into wheat via low energy Ar^+ beam implantation显示文摘A chitinase gene (RCH8) in plasmid vector pCAMBIA1308 was delivered into 3 wheat cultivars (Yangmai 158, Wan 9210, Wanmai 32) by low energy Ar+ beam-mediated method. Preliminary calli from treated mature embryos were first selected on hygromycin (Hm, 20 or 30 mg/L) containing medium. After the resistant calli formed, they were transferred to the regeneration medium with 10 or 20 mg/L Hm. All the three wheat varieties obtained trans-genie plants. PCR and PCR-Southern assays showed that most plants regenerated from the resistant calli were positive transgenic plants. Southern blot of the positive green plants confirmed stable integration of alien DNA into wheat genome. The plant transformation frequencies varied with the variety and ion dose implanted. Wanmai 32 possessed the highest transformation frequency, reaching 3.8% at a suitable implantation dose. The transformation frequency of Yangmai 158 and Wan 9210 varied from 0.5% to 2.5% and from 0.5% to 1.4%, respectively. | 3 | Multi-axial Fatigue of 2024-T4 Aluminum Alloy显示文摘Only the fatigue initiation is considered by the safe-life design approach,while fatigue crack propagation is paid more attention by the damage tolerance approach.The reasonable fatigue design method and durability assessment standard should give these two phases equivalent concerns.To develop a unified model of fatigue initiation and crack propagation,a great deal of baseline fatigue properties of a material should be obtained by fatigue experiments.However,there is lack of thorough and comprehensive experiment study on the fatigue properties of 2024-T4 aluminum alloy,which is widely used as load-bearing components in aircraft industry.In this paper,strain-controlled uniaxial,torsion,and combined axial-torsion fatigue experiments are conducted on 2024-T4 aluminum alloy in ambient air.Fully reversed uniaxial and pure torsion experiments employ solid cylindrical specimens.Fatigue experiments under the fully reversed shear loading with a static axial stress,proportional axial-torsion loading,and 90°out-of-phase axial-torsion nonproportional loading are conducted by using thin-walled tubular specimens.The experimental results show that the mean stress has a significant influence on the fatigue strength of the material.A tensile mean stress decreases the fatigue life dramatically,while a compressive mean stress increases the fatigue life.The strain-life fatigue results obtained from the fully reversed uniaxial fatigue experiments can be represented by one smooth curve of a three-parameter equation.However,two fitting curves are needed for characterizing the results of the fully reversed pure torsion fatigue tests because of the existence of an obvious kink.The baseline fatigue properties of 2024-T4 aluminum alloy obtained from the fatigue experiments have applications for the fatigue design and safe assessment of engineering components. | WANG Xiaogui GAO Zengliang QIU Baoxiang WANG Limei JIANG Yanyao | 2011 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2011,24,2: | 7 |

| 5 | Synthesis and assessment of attractiveness and mating disruption efficacy of sex pheromone microcapsules for the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.)显示文摘Microcapsules of sex pheromone of the diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) were synthesized through complex coacervation using gelatin and gum arabic as wall-forming materials. The encapsulated pheromone released from these microcapsules into the air was monitored over six weeks in the field. Results of a field trial show that the attractiveness of microcapsules was superior to that of rubber septa loaded with the same amount of pheromone. The mating disruption efficiency of the pheromone treatment was estimated through comparing numbers of moths captured in pheromone-baited traps placed in pheromone treatment fields and pesticide treatment fields. The estimated mating disruption efficiency of the pheromone treatments ranged from 76.94% to 98.67% during the season. | 7 | Application of Aircraft Observations over Beijing in Cloud Microphysical Property Retrievals from CloudSat显示文摘Cloud microphysical property retrievals from the active microwave instrument on a satellite require the cloud droplet size distribution obtained from aircraft observations as a priori data in the iteration procedure. The cloud lognormal size distributions derived from 12 flights over Beijing, China, in 2008–09 were characterized to evaluate and improve regional CloudSat cloud water content retrievals. We present the distribution parameters of stratiform cloud droplet(diameter <500 μm and <1500 μm) and discuss the effect of large particles on distribution parameter fitting. Based on three retrieval schemes with different lognormal size distribution parameters, the vertical distribution of cloud liquid and ice water content were derived and then compared with the aircraft observations. The results showed that the liquid water content(LWC) retrievals from large particle size distributions were more consistent with the vertical distribution of cloud water content profiles derived from in situ data on 25 September 2006. We then applied two schemes with different a priori data derived from flight data to CloudSat overpasses in northern China during April–October in 2008 and 2009. The CloudSat cloud water path(CWP) retrievals were compared with Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) liquid water path(LWP) data. The results indicated that considering a priori data including large particle size information can significantly improve the consistency between the CloudSat CWP and MODIS CWP. | 9 | Changes in Life Expectancy of Respiratory Diseases from Attaining Daily PM_(2.5) Standard in China: A Nationwide Observational Study显示文摘Although exposure to air pollution increases the risk of premature mortality and years of life lost(YLL),the effects of daily air quality improvement to the life expectancy of respiratory diseases remained unclear.We applied a generalized additive model(GAM)to assess the associations between daily PM_(2.5) exposure and YLL from respiratory diseases in 96 Chinese cities during 2013–2016.We further estimated the avoidable YLL,potential gains in life expectancy,and the attributable fraction by assuming dailyPM_(2.5) concentration decrease to the air quality standards of China and World Health Organization.Regional and national results were generated by random-effects meta-analysis.A total of 861,494 total respiratory diseases and 586,962 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)caused death from 96 Chinese cities were recorded during study period.Each 10 mg/m3 increase of PM_(2.5) in 3-day moving average(lag02)was associated with 0.16(95%CI:0.08,0.24)years increment in life expectancy from total respiratory diseases.The highest effect was observed in Southwest region with 0.42(95%CI:0.22,0.62)years increase in life expectancy.By attaining the WHO's Air Quality Guidelines,we estimated that an average of 782.09(95%CI:438.29,1125.89)YLLs caused by total respiratory death in each city could be avoided,which corresponded to 1.15%(95%CI:0.67%,1.64%)of the overall YLLs,and 0.12(95%CI:0.07,0.17)years increment in life expectancy.The results of COPD were generally consistent with total respiratory diseases.Our findings indicate that reduction in daily PM_(2.5) concentrations might lead to longer life expectancy from respiratory death. | Yin Yang Jinlei Qi Zengliang Ruan Peng Yin Shiyu Zhang Jiangmei Liu Yunning Liu Rui Li Lijun Wang Hualiang Lin | 2020 | The Innovation2020,1,3: | 3 |

| 11 | Multi-scale three-dimensional variational data assimilation for high-resolution aerosol observations: Methodology and application显示文摘With an increasing number of air quality monitoring stations installed around the Chinese mainland,high-resolution aerosol observations become available,allowing improvements in air pollution monitoring and aerosol forecasting.However,the multi scales(especially small-scale)information included in high-resolution aerosol observations could not be effectively utilized by the traditional three-dimensional variational method(3DVAR).This study attempted to extend the traditional 3DVAR to a multi-scale 3DVAR with two iteration steps,two-scale-3DVAR(TS-3DVAR),to improve the effectiveness of assimilating high-resolution observations.In TS-3DVAR,the large-scale and small-scale components of observation information were decomposed from the original high-resolution observations using a Gaussian smoothing method and then assimilated using the corresponding large-scale or small-scale background error covariances which were derived from the partitioned background error samples.The data assimilation(DA)analysis field generated by TS-3DVAR is more accurate than 3DVAR in reproducing the field’s multi-scale characteristics,which could thus be used as the initial chemical field of the air quality model to improve aerosol forecasting.Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5μm(PM_(2.5))and 10.0μm(PM_(10)) from the surface air quality monitoring stations from November 01 to November 30,2018 at 00:00 were assimilated daily to verify the effects of TS-3DVAR and 3DVAR on the aerosol analysis and forecast accuracy.The results showed that TS-3DVAR better constrained both large-scale and small-scale,especially the spatial wavelengths in a range of 54-216 km and those above 351 km.The average power spectra of the TS-3DVAR assimilation increment in the two wavelength ranges were 71.70%and 35.33%higher than those of 3DVAR.As a result,the TS-3DVAR was more effective than 3DVAR in improving the accuracy of the initial chemical field,and thereby the forecasting capability for PM_(2.5).In the initial chemical field,the 30-day average correlation coefficient(Corr)of PM_(2.5) of TS-3DVAR was 0.052(6.12%)higher than that of 3DVAR,and the root mean square error(RMSE)of TS-3DVAR was 3.446μg m^(−3)(16.4%)lower than that of 3DVAR.For the forecasting capability for PM_(2.5) mass concentration,the 30-day average Corr of TS-3DVAR during the 0-24 hour forecast period was 0.025(5.08%)higher than that of 3DVAR,and the average RMSE was 2.027μg m^(−3)(4.85%)lower.The positive effect of TS-3DVAR on the improvement of forecasting capability can last for more than 24 h. | Zengliang ZANG Yanfei LIANG Wei YOU Yi LI Xiaobin PAN Zhijin LI | 2022 | Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,10: | 2 |
| 12 | Comparative mitochondrial genome analysis of Varunidae and its phylogenetic implications显示文摘Complete mitochondrial genomes(mitogenomes)can indicate phylogenetic relationships,as well as useful information for gene rearrangement mechanisms and molecular evolution.Currently,the phylogenetic location of the genus Varuna(Brachyura:Varunidae)has not been well resolved mainly because of limited representatives(only two extant species).Here,we determined a new mitogenome of this genus(Varuna litterata)and added the published mitogenomes to reconstruct the phylogeny of Varunidae.The 16368-bp mitogenome contains the entire set of 37 genes and a putative control region.The characteristics of this newly sequenced mitogenome were described and compared with the other 15 Varunidae mitogenomes.All 16 analyzed mitogenomes have identical gene order and similar molecular features.The sliding window and genetic distance analyses demonstrate highly variable nucleotide diversity,with comparatively low variability of COI and COII,and high variability of ND6.The nonsynonymous/synonymous substitution rates(dN/dS ratio)analysis shows that all 13 PCGs are under purifying selection and ATP8 gene evolves under the least selective pressure.Twelve tRNA genes,two rRNAs,one PCG,and the putative control region are found to be rearranged with respect to the pancrustacean ground pattern gene order.Tandem duplication/random loss model is adopted to explain the large-scale gene rearrangement events occurring in Varunidae mitogenomes.Phylogenetic analyses show that all Varunidae species are placed into one group,and form a sister clade with Macrophthalmidae.Nevertheless,the phylogenetic relationships within Varunidae are not completely consistent based on the two different datasets used in this study.These findings will contribute to a better understanding of gene rearrangement and molecular evolution in Varunidae mitogenomes,as well as provide insights into the phylogenetic studies of Brachyura. | Ying Zhang Li Gong Xinting Lu Zengliang Miao Lihua Jiang Bingjian Liu Liqin Liu Pengfei Li Xu Zhang Zhenming Lü | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,6: | 2 |

The qua-sicyclic construction method can extend short block length codes and further eliminate the shortest cycle. In this paper, by combining the PEG algorithm and quasi-cyclic construction method, we design long block length irregular LDPC codes with high error-correcting capacity. | 14 | Synergistic Use of AIRS and MODIS for Dust Top Height Retrieval over Land显示文摘It is nontrivial to extract the dust top height(DTH) accurately from passive instruments over land due to the complexity of the surface conditions. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) deep blue(DB) algorithm can be used to infer the aerosol optical depth(AOD) over high-reflective surfaces. The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder(AIRS) can simultaneously obtain the DTH and optical depth information. This study focuses on the synergistic use of AIRS observations and MODIS DB results for improving the DTH by using a stable relationship between the AIRS infrared and MODIS DB AODs. A one-dimensional variational(1DVAR) algorithm is applied to extract the DTH from AIRS. Simulation experiments indicate that when the uncertainty of the dust optical depth decreases from 50% to 20%, the improvement of the DTH retrieval accuracy from AIRS reaches 200 m for most of the assumed dust conditions. For two cases over the Taklimakan Desert, the results are compared against Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization(CALIOP) measurements. | 15 | Statistical Analysis of Thunderstorms on the Eastern Tibetan Plateau Based on Modified Thunderstorm Indices显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau, with an average altitude above 4000 m, is the highest and largest plateau in the world. The frequency of thunderstorms in this region is extremely high. Many indices are used in operational forecasting to assess the stability of the atmosphere and predict the probability of severe thunderstorm development. One of the disadvantages of many of these indices is that they are mainly based on observations from plains. However, considering the Plateau's high elevation, most convective parameters cannot be applied directly, or their application is ineffective. The pre-convective environment on thunderstorm days in this region is investigated based on sounding data obtained throughout a five-year period(2006–10).Thunderstorms occur over the Tibetan Plateau under conditions that differ strikingly from those in plains. On this basis,stability indices, such as the Showalter index(including SI and SICCL), and the K index are improved to better assess the thunderstorm environments on the Plateau. Verification parameters, such as the true-skill statistic(TSS) and Heidke skill score(HSS), are adopted to evaluate the optimal thresholds and relative forecast skill for each modified index. Lastly, the modified indices are verified with a two-year independent dataset(2011–12), showing satisfactory results for the modified indices. | 19 | Study design,general characteristics of participants,and preliminary findings from the metabolome,microbiome,and dietary salt intervention study(MetaSalt)显示文摘Background:High sodium intake is an important risk factor for hypertension and cardiovascular disease.However,the association between gut microbiota composition and metabolomic profiles with dietary sodium intake and blood pressure(BP)is not well-understood.The metabolome,microbiome,and dietary salt intervention(MetaSalt)study aimed to investigate microbial and metabolomic profiles related to dietary sodium intake and BP regulation.Methods:This family-based intervention study was conducted in four communities across three provinces in rural northern China in 2019.Probands with untreated prehypertension or stage-1 hypertension were identified through community-based BP screening,and family members including siblings,offspring,spouses,and parents were subsequently included.All participants participated in a 3-day baseline examination with usual diet consumption,followed by a 10-day low-salt diet(3 g/d of salt or 51.3 mmol/d of sodium)and a 10-day high-salt diet(18 g/d of salt or 307.8 mmol/d of sodium).Differences in mean BP levels were compared according to the intervention phases using a paired Student’s t-test.Results:A total of 528 participants were included in this study,with a mean age of 48.1 years,36.7%of whom were male,76.8%had a middle school(69.7%)or higher(7.1%)diploma,23.4%had a history of smoking,and 24.4%were current drinkers.The mean arterial pressure at baseline was 97.2±10.5 mm Hg for all participants,and significantly decreased during the low-salt intervention(93.8±9.3,P<0.0001)and subsequently increased during the high-salt intervention(96.4±10.0,P<0.0001).Conclusions:Our dietary salt intervention study has successfully recruited participants and will facilitate to evaluate the effects of gut microbiota and metabolites on BP regulation in response to sodium burden,which will provide important evidence for investigating the underlying mechanisms in the development of hypertension and subsequent cardiovascular diseases.Trial registration:The study was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry database(ChiCTR1900025171). | Zengliang Ruan Jianxin Li Fangchao Liu Jie Cao Shufeng Chen Jichun Chen Keyong Huang Yaqin Wang Hongfan Li Yan Wang Zhongyu Xue Laiyuan Wang Jianfeng Huang Dongfeng Gu Xiangfeng Lu | 2021 | Chronic Diseases and Translational Medicine2021,7,4: | 1 |
