1Source rupture process of Lushan M_S7.0 earthquake, Sichuan,China and its tectonic implications显示文摘The source rupture process of the MS7.0 Lushan earthquake was here evaluated using 40 long-period P waveforms with even azimuth coverage of stations.Results reveal that the rupture process of the Lushan MS7.0 event to be simpler than that of the Wenchuan earthquake and also showed significant differences between the two rupture processes.The whole rupture process lasted 36 s and most of the moment was released within the first 13 s.The total released moment is 1.9×1019N m with MW=6.8.Rupture propagated upwards and bilaterally to both sides from the initial point,resulting in a large slip region of 40 km×30 km,with the maximum slip of 1.8 m,located above the initial point.No surface displacement was estimated around the epicenter,but displacement was observed about 20 km NE and SW directions of the epicenter.Both showed slips of less than 40 cm.The rupture suddenly stopped at 20 km NE of the initial point.This was consistent with the aftershock activity.This phenomenon indicates the existence of significant variation of the medium or tectonic structure,which may prevent the propagation of the rupture and aftershock activity.The earthquake risk of the left segment of Qianshan fault is worthy of attention.ZHAO CuiPing ZHOU LianQing CHEN ZhangLi 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,28:13
2Rupture process of the Wenchuan M8.0 earthquake of Sichuan, China: the segmentation feature显示文摘Moment tensor solution, rupture process and rupture characteristics of the great Wenchuan M8.0 earthquake are studied by using 39 long-period P and SH waveforms with evenly azimuth coverage of stations. Our results reveal that the Wenchuan M8.0 event consisted of 5 sub-events of Mw≥7.3 occurring succesively in time and space. Rupture started with a Mw7.3 introductory strike-slip faulting in the first 12 s, then within 12?40 s, two sub-events with Mw7.6 and Mw7.4 occurred within 80 km northeast from the initial point with the dominant rupture type of thrust moving. From 40 to 62 s, a Mw7.5 and Mw7.4 right-lateral strike-slip type of sub-events occurred on the two sides of Beichuan, 120 km away northeast from the initial point. The whole rupture process lasted 105 s and unilaterally propagated from the initial point on the WS section of the Yingxiu-Beichuan fault to the NE direction, resulting in a 230-km-long surface rupture zone and the average surface dislocation is up to 4 m. Two asperities are identified and the whole rupture process is formed by WS and NE parts. In the WS part named Dujiangyang-Wenchuan, where the initial point is located, the rupture process showed reverse faulting with the maximum slip of 8.2 m. Around Mianzhu, rupture changed to right-lateral strike slip faulting and formed a Beichuan-Qingchuan large slip area. The rupture area on this part is about 10 km in depth, shallower than on the WS part. The maximum slip is 6.53 m. Consequently, there formed 2 segments with the surface dislocation larger than 6 m. One is the Dujiangyan-Wenchuan segment with the maximum surface displacement of 6.44 m, the other is the Beichuan-Qingchuan segment with the maximum surface displacement of 6.53 m. 3Fabrication of Waterproof Artificial Compound Eyes with Variable Field of View Based on the Bioinspiration from Natural Hierarchical Micro–Nanostructures显示文摘Planar and curved microlens arrays(MLAs)are the key components of miniaturized microoptical systems.In order to meet the requirements for advanced and multipurpose applications in microoptical field,a simple manufacturing method is urgently required for fabricating MLAs with unique properties,such as waterproofness and variable field-of-view(FOV)imaging.Such properties are beneficial for the production of advanced artificial compound eyes for the significant applications in complex microcavity environments with high humidity,for instance,miniature medical endoscopy.However,the simple and effective fabrication of advanced artificial compound eyes still presents significant challenges.In this paper,bioinspired by the natural superhydrophobic surface of lotus leaf,we propose a novel method for the fabrication of waterproof artificial compound eyes.Electrohydrodynamic jet printing was used to fabricate hierarchical MLAs and nanolens arrays(NLAs)on polydimethylsiloxane film.The flexible film of MLAs hybridized with NLAs exhibited excellent superhydrophobic property with a water contact angle of 158°.The MLAs film was deformed using a microfluidics chip to create artificial compound eyes with variable FOV,which ranged from 0°to 160°.Peilin Zhou Haibo Yu Ya Zhong Wuhao Zou Zhidong Wang Lianqing Liu 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,12:2
4Large-scale assembly of Cu/CuO nanowires for nano-electronic device fabrication显示文摘To improve the efficiency of nano-electronic device fabrication,a new method named floating electrical potential assembly is proposed to realize large-scale assembly of Cu/CuO nanowires.The simulation of floating electrical potential distribution on the micro-electrode chip is performed by COMSOL software,and the simulation result shows that the coupled electrical potential on the floating drain electrodes is very close to the original electrical potential applied on the gate electrode,which means that the method can provide di-electrophoresis(DEP)force for all the electrode pairs at one time,thus realizing large-scale assembly at one time.With Cu/CuO nanowires well dispersed and micro-electrode chip fabrication,nanowires assembly experiments are performed and the experimental results show that Cu/CuO nanowires are assembled at hundreds of micro-electrodes pairs at one time,and the success rate of nanowires assembly also reaches 90%.XU Ke TIAN XiaoJun YU HaiBo YANG Yang ZHOU Lei LIU LianQing 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,4:2
5Machine learning-based automatic construction of earthquake catalog for reservoir areas in multiple river basins of Guizhou province,China显示文摘Large reservoirs have the risk of reservoir induced seismicity.Accurately detecting and locating microseismic events are crucial when studying reservoir earthquakes.Automatic earthquake monitoring in reservoir areas is one of the effective measures for earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation.In this study,we first applied the automatic location workflow(named LOCFLOW)to process 14-day continuous waveform data from several reservoir areas in different river basins of Guizhou province.Compared with the manual seismic catalog,the recall rate of seismic event detection using the workflow was 83.9%.Of the detected earthquakes,88.9%had an onset time difference below 1 s,81.8%has a deviation in epicenter location within 5 km,and 77.8%had a focal depth difference of less than 5 km,indicating that the workflow has good generalization capacity in reservoir areas.We further applied the workflow to retrospectively process continuous waveform data recorded from 2020 to the first half of 2021 in reservoir areas in multiple river basins of western Guizhou province and identified five times the number of seismic events obtained through manual processing.Compared with manual processing of seismic catalog,the completeness magnitude had decreased from 1.3 to 0.8,and a b-value of 1.25 was calculated for seismicity in western Guizhou province,consistent with the b-values obtained for the reservoir area in previous studies.Our results show that seismicity levels were relatively low around large reservoirs that were impounded over 15 years ago,and there is no significant correlation between the seismicity in these areas and reservoir impoundment.Seismicity patterns were notably different around two large reservoirs that were only impounded about 12 years ago,which may be explained by differences in reservoir storage capacity,the geologic and tectonic settings,hydrogeological characteristics,and active fault the reservoir areas.Prominent seismicity persisted around two large reservoirs that have been impounded for less than 10 years.These events were clustered and had relatively shallow focal depths.The impoundment of the Jiayan Reservoir had not officially begun during this study period,but earthquake location results suggested a high seismicity level in this reservoir area.Therefore,any seismicity in this reservoir area after the official impoundment deserves special attention.Longfei Duan Cuiping Zhao Xingzhong Du Lianqing Zhou 2023Earthquake Science2023,36,2:1

11Temporal and Spatial Images of Ambient Noise Intensity in the Chinese Mainland显示文摘Successive waveforms of the vertical component recorded by 888 broadband seismic stations in the China Seismography Network from January,2010 to June,2011 are used to investigate the temporal and spatial distribution of ambient noise intensity,and the images of ambient noise intensity at the period of 10 s in the Chinese Mainland are obtained. The temporal variation of ambient noise intensity shows some seasonal and periodic characteristics. The maximum ambient noise intensity occurred from January,2011 to March,2011. The spatial distribution images of ambient noise intensity show obvious zoning features,which doesnt correlate with surface geology,suggesting that the noise field is stronger than the site factors. The strength in southeastern coastal areas reaches its maximum and generally decreases toward to inland areas,and arrives at the minimum in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The zonal intensity distribution is probably correlated with ocean tides from the Philippine Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. It also shows that the influence from the Indian Ocean seems small. However, the ambient noise intensity increases to a certain degree in the Xinjiang area,indicating that the main source of ambient noise in the western area of the Chinese Mainland is not derived from the East and South China Sea,but rather from the deep interior of the Eurasian continent. The ambient noise intensity obtained in this study can supply reference for seismology research based on ambient noise correlation. 12Generalization of PhaseNet in Shandong and its application to the Changqing M4.1 earthquake sequence显示文摘Waveforms of seismic events,extracted from January 2019 to December 2021 were used to construct a test dataset to investigate the generalizability of PhaseNet in the Shandong region.The results show that errors in the picking of seismic phases(P-and Swaves)had a broadly normal distribution,mainly concentrated in the ranges of−0.4–0.3 s and−0.4–0.8 s,respectively.These results were compared with those published in the original PhaseNet article and were found to be approximately 0.2–0.4 s larger.PhaseNet had a strong generalizability for P-and S-wave picking for epicentral distances of less than 120 km and 110 km,respectively.However,the phase recall rate decreased rapidly when these distances were exceeded.Furthermore,the generalizability of PhaseNet was essentially unaffected by magnitude.The M4.1 earthquake sequence in Changqing,Shandong province,China,that occurred on February 18,2020,was adopted as a case study.PhaseNet detected more than twice the number of earthquakes in the manually obtained catalog.This further verified that PhaseNet has strong generalizability in the Shandong region,and a high-precision earthquake catalog was constructed.According to these precise positioning results,two earthquake sequences occurred in the study area,and the southern cluster may have been triggered by the northern cluster.The focal mechanism solution,regional stress field,and the location results of the northern earthquake sequence indicated that the seismic force of the earthquake was consistent with the regional stress field.Zonghui Dai Lianqing Zhou Xuhui Hu Junhao Qu Xia Li 2023Earthquake Science2023,36,3:0
13Measurement of Earthquake Size显示文摘The paper begins with a brief review of the research history of earthquake size measurement. On this basis,the author pointed out the following points: 1 In recent decades,ML,mb( mB),MSmagnitude scales are widely used as measures of earthquake size. However,these magnitude scales have a deficiency of 'overgeneralization ' and'magnitude saturation'. Moreover,since they do not fully take into account the regional difference of seismic attenuation, especially the difference of site effects on the amplification of ground motion,these magnitude scales are but inaccurate measures of earthquake size. 2 Seismic moment M0 not only has clear physical meaning,but also overcomes the deficiencies existing in ML,mb( mB) and MSmagnitude scales,so it is the most suitable physical quantity for measuring earthquake size scientifically. In order to continue to use the term 'magnitude',Kanamori defined the moment magnitude scaleΔσ. Although its prerequisite assumptions remain to be studied,it is still a reasonable scale used as a measure of the relative size of an earthquake. 3 For measuring the earthquake size more scientifically,we must make full use of a large amount of waveform data from modern regional digital seismograph networks,strengthen the research on seismic wave attenuation characteristics,site effect,calculation of source parameters and the related scaling relations. 15Seismogenic environment and mechanism of the Yangbi M_(S)6.4 earthquake in Yunnan,China显示文摘The Yangbi M_(S)6.4 earthquake occurred on May 21,2021 in western Yunnan,China,where moderate earthquakes strike frequently.It exhibited a typical“foreshock-mainshock-aftershock”sequence and did not occur on a pre-existing active fault.The seismogenic environment and mechanism of this earthquake have aroused considerable research attention.In this study,we obtain the three-dimensional v_(P),v_(S)and v_(P)/v_(S)images using the v_(P)/v_(S)consistency-constrained double-difference tomography method,which improves the accuracy of v_(P)/v_(S)models.We focus on characteristics of v_(P)/v_(S)images in areas with a lateral resolution of 0.1°,and reveal the seismogenic environment of the Yangbi M_(S)6.4 earthquake.The conclusions are as follows:(1)Low velocity and high-v_(P)/v_(S)anomalies are revealed at different depths around the northern segment of the Red River fault.v_(S)and v_(P)/v_(S)images along the Weixi-Qiaohou-Weishan fault and the buried faults on its west show obviously segmented feature.(2)The source region of the Yangbi M_(S)6.4 earthquake is located in a low-v_(P)/v_(S)zone implying high medium strength.High-v_(P)/v_(S)anomalies in its NW direction indicate cracks development and the existence of fluids or partial melts,which are unfavorable for stress accumulation and triggering large earthquakes.Such conditions have also prevented the earthquake sequence from extending northwestward.(3)With the southeastward extrusion of materials from the Tibetan Plateau,fluid migration was blocked by the low-v_(P)/v_(S)body in the source region.The high-v_(P)/v_(S)anomaly beneath the source region may implies that the fluids or partial melts in the middle and lower crust gradually weakened medium strength at the bottom of the seismogenic layer,and preparing the largest foreshock in the transition zone of high to low v_(P)/v_(S).Meanwhile,tectonic stress incessantly accumulated in the brittle upper crust,eventually led to the M_(S)6.4 earthquake occurrence.Mengqiao Duan Kezhen Zuo Cuiping Zhao Lianqing Zhou 2022Earthquake Science2022,35,4:0
