| 1 | Functionalized polymer nanofibers: a versatile platform for manipulating light at the nanoscale显示文摘As an organic optical fiber with a diameter comparable to or less than the wavelength of light,polymer nanofibers have been attracting increasing attention as a platform for manipulating light at the nanoscale.A variety of applications for polymer optical nanofibers,including waveguides,light sources and sensors,have been reported in recent years.In this article,the recent progress in the field of polymer optical nanofibers is reviewed in terms of their fabrication,characterization and applications.In particular,we focus on functionalized polymer nanofibers doped with functional materials,such as dye molecules,noble metal nanoparticles,quantum dots and rare earth ions,which greatly expand their capabilities of generating,propagating,converting and modulating light at the nanoscale. | Pan Wang Yipei Wang Limin Tong | 2013 | Light(Science & Applications)2013,2,1: | 9 |

| 3 | Water quality criteria for 4-nonylphenol in protection of aquatic life显示文摘Here reproduction and death toxicity data were selected for 4-nonylphenol based on endocrine disrupting properties of the reproductive system. Assessment factor (AF) and species sensitivity distribution (SSD) curve were employed to derive criteria maximum concentration (CMC) and criteria continuous concentration (CCC) of three different 4-nonylphenols for protection of aquatic life. The results showed that the CMC and CCC based on SSD method and death toxicity data for three different 4-nonylphenols (CAS No: 104405, 25154523, 84852163) were 26.7, 13.6, 3.84 g L 1 and 8.86, 2.21, 0.97 g L 1, respectively. Based on SSD and reproductive toxicity data, the CCC values of different 4-nonylphenols (CAS No: 104405, 25154523) were 1.59 and 1.34 g L 1, respectively. The CCC values obtained by the AF for three different 4-nonylphenol (CAS No: 104405, 25154523, 84852163) were 0.165, 1.03, 0.74 g L 1 and 0.5, 0.5, 0.1 g L 1, respectively, based on death toxicity data and reproductive toxicity data. The CCC values obtained by AF were all lower than the corresponding criteria values obtained by SSD, and the CCC values based on reproductive toxicity data were less than those based on the death toxicity data. | 4 | High-Q, low-mode-volume microsphere-integrated Fabry–Perot cavity for optofluidic lasing applications显示文摘We develop a hybrid optofluidic microcavity by placing a microsphere with a diameter ranging from 1 to 4 μm in liquid-filled plano-plano Fabry–Perot(FP) cavities, which can provide an extremely low effective mode volume down to 0.3–5.1 μm^3 while maintaining a high Q-factor up to 1 × 10~4–5 × 10~4 and a finesse of ~2000. Compared to the pure plano-plano FP cavities that are known to suffer from the lack of mode confinement, diffraction, and geometrical walk-off losses as well as being highly susceptible to mirror misalignment, our microsphere-integrated FP(MIFP) cavities show strong optical confinement in the lateral direction with a tight mode radius of only 0.4–0.9 μm and high tolerance to mirror misalignment as large as 2°. With the microsphere serving as a waveguide, the MIFP is advantageous over a fiber-sandwiched FP cavity due to the open-cavity design for analytes/liquids to interact strongly with the resonant mode, the ease of assembly, and the possibility to replace the microsphere. In this work, the main characteristics of the MIFP, including Q-factor, finesse, effective mode radius and volume, and their dependence on the surrounding medium's refractive index, mirror spacing, microsphere position inside the FP cavity, and mirror misalignment, are systematically investigated using a finite-element method.Then, by inserting dye-doped polystyrene microspheres of various sizes into the FP cavity filled with water, we experimentally realize single-mode MIFP optofluidic lasers that have a lasing threshold as low as a few microjoules per square millimeter and a lasing spot radius of only ~0.5 μm. | 6 | N-acetylcysteine protect lymphocytes and cytokines against heavy ion irradiation via counteracting the glutamate显示文摘We evaluated the protective effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on immunity system irradiated by 12C6+ ion beam. Kun-Ming mice were whole-body irradiated by 12C6+ ion at doses of 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 Gy. The results showed that in saline group, the lymphocytes DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), maleic dialdehyde, thymocytes number in G 0 /G 1 and apoptosis percentage increased with dose increment, and the levels of interferon-γ, glutathione, superoxide radical (SOD) and natural killer cells activity decreased with dose increment. However, there were no significant changes in NAC-treated group. | 12 | The Recent Crustal Deformation on the Sichuan-Yunnan Rhombic Block Boundaries显示文摘Based on data from an across-fault survey along the Sichuan-Yunnan rhombic block boundaries, the recent deformation characteristics on each fault have been analyzed. It was found that the rate of crustal deformation is slowing down along the northern segment and increasing along the southern segment. Each fault has different features of deformation. The horizontal deformation is mainly characterized by left-lateral strike-slip. The rate of vertical deformation is less than that of the horizontal deformation. The faults have the feature of upper wall uplifting alternated with descending.
