Quasi-equilibrium glide adaptive guidance for hypersonic vehicles显示文摘The entry-glide guidance strategy for hypersonic vehicles that can satisfy both terminal and path constraints is investigated in this paper. We propose a quasi-equilibrium glide adaptive guidance methodology based on the quasi-equilibrium glide condition(QEGC),which innovatively utilizes the quasi-equilibrium glide phenomenon in lifting entry. With the aid of QEGC,both range and terminal velocity can be predicted analytically with high precision. The path constraints are converted into angle of attack constraints, which has been difficult to realize by using traditional predictive guidance methods. The algorithm is independent of the standard trajectory. All the guidance commands, including the bank angle and the angle of attack, are calculated analytically in real time, which endows the algorithm with sufficient adapbility. The results of a CAV-H vehicle guidance test show that the algorithm leads the vehicle along a quasi-equilibrium glide trajectory satisfying both the terminal and path constraints and has sufficient flexibility for occasional mission changes.Furthermore, the robustness of the guidance algorithm under disturbances is validated through a Monte Carlo simulation.XU MingLiang CHEN KeJun LIU LuHua TANG GuoJian 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,3:30
The Auxin-Regulated Protein ZmAuxRPI Coordinates the Balance between Root Growth and Stalk Rot Disease Resistance in Maize显示文摘To optimize fitness, plants must efficiently allocate their resources between growth and defense. Although phytohormone crosstalk has emerged as a major player in balancing growth and defense, the genetic basis by which plants man age this balance remai ns elusive. We previously ide ntified a quantitative disease . resistance locus, qRfg2, in maize (Zea mays) that protects against the fungal disease Gibberella stalk rot. Here, through map-based cloning, we demonstrate that the causal gene at qRfg2 is ZmAuxRPI, which encodes a plastid stroma-localized auxin-regulated protein. ZmAuxRPI responded quickly to pathogen challenge with a rapid yet transient reduction in expression that led to arrested root growth but enhanced resista nee to Gibberella stalk rot and Fusarium ear rot. ZmAuxRPI was show n to promote the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), while suppressing the formation of benzoxazinoid defense compounds. ZmAuxRPI presumably acts as a resource regulator modulating indole-3-glycerol phosphate and/or indole flux at the branch point between the IAA and benzoxazinoid biosynthetic pathways. The concerted interplay between IAA and benzoxazinoids can regulate the growth-defense balance in a timely and efficient manner to optimize plant fitness.Jianrong Ye Tao Zhong Dongfeng Zhang Chuanyu Ma Lina Wang Lishan Yao Qianqian Zhang Mang Zhu Mingliang Xu 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,3:19
Coinfection with influenza A virus enhances SARS-CoV-2 infectivity显示文摘The upcoming flu season in the Northern Hemisphere merging with the current COVID-19 pandemic raises a potentially severe threat to public health.Through experimental coinfection with influenza A virus(IAV)and either pseudotyped or live SARS-CoV-2 virus,we found that IAV preinfection significantly promoted the infectivity of SARS-CoV-2 in a broad range of cell types.Remarkably,in vivo, increased SARS-CoV-2 viral load and more severe lung damage were observed in mice coinfected with IAV.Moreover, such enhancement of SARS-CoV-2 infectivity was not observed with several other respiratory viruses, likely due to a unique feature of IAV to elevate ACE2 expression. This study illustrates that IAV has a unique ability to aggravate SARS-CoV-2 infection, and thus, prevention of IAV infection is of great significance during the COVID-19 pandemic.Lei Bai Yongliang Zhao Jiazhen Dong Simeng Liang Ming Guo Xinjin Liu Xin Wang Zhixiang Huang Xiaoyi Sun Zhen Zhang Lianghui Dong Qianyun Liu Yucheng Zheng Danping Niu Min Xiang Kun Song Jiajie Ye Wenchao Zheng Zhidong Tang Mingliang Tang Yu Zhou Chao Shen Li Zhou Yu Chen Huan Yan Ke Lan Ke Xu 2021Cell Research2021,31,4:16

Combined genome-wide association study and transcriptome analysis reveal candidate genes for resistance to Fusarium ear rot in maize显示文摘Fusarium ear rot, caused by Fusarium verti-cillioides,is a devastating fungal disease in maize that re-duces yield and quality;moreover,F.verticillioides pro-duces fumonisin mycotoxins, which pose serious threats to human and animal health. Here,we performed a genome-wide association study(GWAS)under three en-vironmental conditions and identified 34 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)that were significantly associated with Fusarium ear rot resistance. With reference to the maize B73 genome,69 genes that overlapped with or were adjacent to the significant SNPs were identified as potential resistance genes to Fusarium ear rot.Comparing transcriptomes of the most resistant and most susceptible lines during the very early response to Fusarium ear rot,we detected many differentially expressed genes enriched for pathways related to plant immune responses, such as plant hormone signal transduction, phenylpropanoid bio-synthesis,and cytochrome P450 metabolism.More than one-fourth of the potential resistance genes detected in the GWAS were differentially expressed in the tran-scriptome analysis, which allowed us to predict numbers of candidate genes for maize resistance to ear rot,in-cluding genes related to plant hormones,a MAP kinase,a PR5-like receptor kinase, and heat shock proteins. We propose that maize plants initiate early immune responses to Fusarium ear rot mainly by regulating the growth-defense balance and promoting biosynthesis of defense compounds.Lishan Yao Yanmei Li Chuanyu Ma Lixiu Tong Feili Du Mingliang Xu 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,10:13
A Sequential Quantitative Trait Locus Fine-Mapping Strategy Using Recombinant-Derived Progeny显示文摘A thorough understanding of the quantitative trait loci(QTLs)that underlie agronomically important traits in crops would greatly increase agricultural productivity.Although advances have been made in QTL cloning, the majority of QTLs remain unknown because of their low heritability and minor contributions to phenotypic performance. Here we summarize the key advantages and disadvantages of current QTL fine-mapping methodologies, and then introduce a sequential QTL fine-mapping strategy based on both genotypes and phenotypes of progeny derived from recombinants. With this mapping strategy, experimental errors could be dramatically diminished so as to reveal the authentic genetic effect of target QTLs.The number of progeny required to detect QTLs atvarious R^2 values was calculated, and the backcross generation suitable to start QTL fine-mapping was also estimated. This mapping strategy has proved to be very powerful in narrowing down QTL regions, particularly minor-effect QTLs,as revealed by fine-mapping of various resistance QTLs in maize.Application of this sequential QTL mapping strategy should accelerate cloning of agronomically important QTLs,which is currently a substantial challenge in crops.Qin Yang Dongfeng Zhang Mingliang Xu 2012Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2012,54,4:10
The Genetic and Molecular Basis of Plant Resistance to Pathogens显示文摘Plant pathogens have evolved numerous strategies to obtain nutritive materials from their host, and plants in turn have evolved the preformed physical and chemical barriers as well as sophisticated two-tiered immune system to combat pathogen attacks.Genetically, plant resistance to pathogens can be divided into qualitative and quantitative disease resistance, conditioned by major gene(s) and multiple genes with minor effects, respectively.Qualitative disease resistance has been mostly detected in plant defense against biotrophic pathogens, whereas quantitative disease resistance is involved in defense response to all plant pathogens, from biotrophs, hemibiotrophs to necrotrophs.Plant resistance is achieved through interception of pathogen-derived effectors and elicitation of defense response. In recent years, great progress has been made related to the molecular basis underlying host-pathogen interactions. In this review,we would like to provide an update on genetic and molecular aspects of plant resistance to pathogens.Yan Zhang Thomas Lubberstedt Mingliang Xu 2013Journal of Genetics and Genomics2013,40,1:10
Overall assessment of antibiotic substitutes for pigs:a set of meta-analyses显示文摘Background:Antibiotic growth promoters are widely used to improve weight gain. However, the abuse of antibiotics can have many negative effects on people.Developing alternatives to antibiotics is an urgent need in livestock production. We aimed to perform a meta-analysis and network meta-analysis(NMA)to investigate the effects of feed additives as potential antibiotic substitutes(ASs)on bacteriostasis, growth performance, intestinal morphology and immunity.Furthermore, the primary, secondary, and tertiary ASs were defined by comparing their results with the results of antibiotics. Results:Among 16,309 identified studies,37 were summarized to study the bacteriostasis effects of feed additives, and 89 were included in the meta-analysis and NMA(10,228 pigs). We summarized 268 associations of 57 interventions with 32 bacteria. The order of bacteriostasis effects was as follows:antimicrobial peptides(AMPs)≈antibiotics>organic acids>plant extracts>oligosaccharides. We detected associations of 11 feed additives and 11 outcomes.Compared with a basal diet, plant extract,AMPs,probiotics, microelements, organic acids, bacteriophages, lysozyme, zymin, and oligosaccharides significantly improved growth performance(P<0.05);organic acids, probiotics, microelements, lysozyme, and AMPs remarkably increased the villus height:crypt depth ratio(V/C)(P<0.05);and plant extracts, zymin, microelements, probiotics, and organic acids notably improved immunity(P<0.05).The optimal AMP,bacteriophage, lysozyme, microelements, oligosaccharides, organic acids, plants, plant extracts, probiotics, and zymin doses were 0.100%,0.150%,0.012%,0.010%,0.050%,0.750%,0.20%,0.040%,0.180%,and 0.100%,respectively.Compared with antibiotics, all investigated feed additives exhibited no significant difference in effects on growth performance,IgG,and diarrhoea index/rate(P>0.05);AMPs and microelements significantly increased V/C(P<0.05);and zymin significantly improved lymphocyte levels(P<0.05).Furthermore,linear weighting sum models were used to comprehensively estimate the overall impact of each feed additive on pig growth and health. Conclusions:Our findings suggest that AMPs and plant extracts can be used as primary ASs for weaned piglets and growing pigs, respectively.Bacteriophages, zymin, plants, probiotics, oligosaccharides, lysozyme, and microelements can be regarded as secondary ASs.Nucleotides and organic acids can be considered as tertiary ASs.Future studies should further assess the alternative effects of combinational feed additives.Bocheng Xu Jie Fu Luoyi Zhu Zhi Li Mingliang Jin Yizhen Wang 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,2:9
Plasma metabolomic and lipidomic alterations associated with COVID-19显示文摘The pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has become a global public health crisis. The symptoms of COVID-19 range from mild to severe, but the physiological changes associated with COVID-19 are barely understood. In this study,we performed targeted metabolomic and lipidomic analyses of plasma from a cohort of patients with COVID-19 who had experienced different symptoms. We found that metabolite and lipid alterations exhibit apparent correlation with the course of disease in these patients, indicating that the development of COVID-19 affected their whole-body metabolism. In particular, malic acid of the TCA cycle and carbamoyl phosphate of the urea cycle result in altered energy metabolism and hepatic dysfunction, respectively. It should be noted that carbamoyl phosphate is profoundly down-regulated in patients who died compared with patients with mild symptoms. And,more importantly, guanosine monophosphate(GMP),which is mediated not only by GMP synthase but also by CD39 and CD73,is significantly changed between healthy subjects and patients with COVID-19,as well as between the mild and fatal cases. In addition, dyslipidemia was observed in patients with COVID-19.Overall,the disturbed metabolic patterns have been found to align with the progress and severity of COVID-19.This work provides valuable knowledge about plasma biomarkers associated with COVID-19 and potential therapeutic targets,as well as an important resource for further studies of the pathogenesis of COVID-19.Di Wu Ting Shu Xiaobo Yang Jian-Xin Song Mingliang Zhang Chengye Yao Wen Liu Muhan Huang Yuan Yu Qingyu Yang Tingju Zhu Jiqian Xu Jingfang Mu Yaxin Wang Hong Wang Tang Tang Yujie Ren Yongran Wu Shu-Hai Lin Yang Qiu Ding-Yu Zhang You Shang Xi Zhou 2020National Science Review2020,7,7:9

Global methane and nitrous oxide emissions from terrestrial ecosystems due to multiple environmental changes显示文摘Greenhouse gas(GHG)-induced climate change is among the most pressing sustainability challenges facing humanity today, posing serious risks for ecosystem health.Methane(CH_(4))and nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)are the two most important GHGs after carbon dioxide(CO_(2)),but their regional and global budgets are not well known. In this study,we applied a process-based coupled biogeochemical model to concurrently estimate the magnitude and spatial and temporal patterns of CH_(4)and N_(2)O fluxes as driven by multiple environmental changes, including climate variability, rising atmospheric CO_(2),increasing nitrogen deposition, tropospheric ozone pollution, land use change, and nitrogen fertilizer use.The estimated CH_(4)and N_(2)O emissions from global land ecosystems during 1981-2010 were 144.39±12.90 Tg C/yr(mean 62 SE;1 Tg=1012 g)and 12.52±0.74 Tg N/yr,respectively.Our simulations indicated a significant(P,0.01)annually increasing trend for CH_(4)(0.43±0.06 Tg C/yr)and N_(2)O(0.14±0.02 Tg N/yr)in the study period.CH_(4)and N_(2)O emissions increased significantly in most climatic zones and continents, especially in the tropical regions and Asia. The most rapid increase in CH_(4)emission was found in natural wetlands and rice fields due to increased rice cultivation area and climate warming.N_(2)O emission increased substantially in all the biome types and the largest increase occurred in upland crops due to increasing air temperature and nitrogen fertilizer use.Clearly, the three major GHGs(CH_(4),N_(2)O,and CO_(2))should be simultaneously considered when evaluating if a policy is effective to mitigate climate change.Hanqin Tian Guangsheng Chen Chaoqun Lu Xiaofeng Xu Wei Ren Bowen Zhang Kamaljit Banger Bo Tao Shufen Pan Mingliang Liu Chi Zhang Lori Bruhwiler Steven Wofsy 2015Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2015,1,1:7
OsMKKK70 regulates grain size and leaf angle in rice through the OsMKK4-OsMAPK6-OsWRKY53 signaling pathway显示文摘Grain size and leaf angle are key agronomic traits that determine final yields in rice. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are not well understood. Here we demonstrate that the Oryza sativa Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase Kinase Kinase OsMKKK70 regulates grain size and leaf angle in rice.Overexpressing OsMKKK70 caused plants to produce longer seeds. The osmkkk62/70 double mutant and the osmkkk55/62/70 triple mutant displayed significantly smaller seeds and a more erect leaf angle compared to the wild type, indicating that OsMKKK70 functions redundantly with its homologs Os MKKK62 and Os MKKK55.Biochemical analysis demonstrated that OsMKKK70 is an active kinase and that OsMKKK70 interacts with Os MKK4 and promotes Os MAPK6 phosphorylation. In addition, the osmkkk62/70 double mutant showed reduced sensitivity to Brassinosteroids(BRs).Finally, overexpressing constitutively active Os MKK4,Os MAPK6,and Os WRKY53 can partially complement the smaller seed size, erect leaf, and BR hyposensitivity of the osmkkk62/70 double mutant.Taken together, these findings suggest that OsMKKK70 might regulate grain size and leaf angle in rice by activating Os MAPK6 and that OsMKKK70,Os MKK4,Os MAPK6,and Os WRKY53 function in a common signaling pathway that controls grain shape and leaf angle.Zhiqi Liu Enyang Mei Xiaojie Tian Mingliang He Jiaqi Tang Min Xu Jiali Liu Lu Song Xiufeng Li Zhenyu Wang Qingjie Guan Qijiang Xu Qingyun Bu 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,12:6
Fine Mapping of RppP25, a Southern Rust Resistance Gene in Maize显示文摘Southern rust (Puccinia polysora Underw.) is a major disease that can cause severe yield losses in maize (Zea mays L.). In our previous study, a major gene RppP25 that confers resistance to southern rust was identified in inbred line P25. Here, we report the fine mapping and candidate gene analysis of RppP25 from the near-isogenic line F939, which harbors RppP25 in the genetic background of the susceptible inbred line F349. The inheritance of resistance to southern rust was investigated in the BC1F1 and BC3F1 populations, which were derived from a cross between F939 and F349 (as the recurrent parent). The 1:1 segregation ratio of resistance to susceptible plants in these two populations indicated that the resistance is controlled by a single dominant gene. Ten markers, including three simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and seven insertion/deletion (InDel) markers, were developed in the RppP25 region. RppP25 was delimited to an interval between P091 and M271, with an estimated length of 40 kb based on the physical map of B73. In this region, a candidate gene was identified that was predicted to encode a putative nucleotide-binding site leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) protein. Two co-segregated markers will aid in pyramiding diverse southern rust resistance alleles into elite materials, and thereby improve southern rust resistance worldwide.Panfeng Zhao Guobin Zhang Xiaojun Wu Na Li Dianyi Shi Dengfeng Zhang Chunfang Ji Mingliang Xu Shoucai Wang 2013Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,5:5
CCT family genes in cereal crops: A current overview显示文摘Control of flowering time is crucial for reproductive success of cereal crops, and has a significant impact on grain yield as well as adaptation to diverse environmental conditions.Plants integrate signals from both environmental cues and endogenous regulatory pathways to fine-tune flowering time. The CCT domain originally described to a 43-amino acid sequence at the C-terminus of three Arabidopsis proteins, namely CONSTANS(CO),CO-LIKE, and TIMING OF CAB1(TOC1). The CCT domain-containing genes(CCT genes),which encode transcription co-factors, are the major genetic determinants that modulate flowering time, and this in turn enables plants to effectively expand their territory to take advantage of favorable habitats. Moreover, certain CCT genes have pleiotropic effects on morphological traits and confer resistance/tolerance to biotic/abiotic stresses. CCT genes can be classified into three families, namely COL(CONSTANS-like), PRR(Pseudo-response regulator), and CMF(CCT motif family),based on their non-CCT domains. During domestication, natural and artificial selection resulted in reduced nucleotide diversity of CCT genes in modern cultivated cereals than their wild types. Here, we review the features and functions of CCT genes in cereal crops and propose future research to focus on CCT genes and their utilization in crop breeding.Yipu Li Mingliang Xu 2017The Crop Journal2017,5,6:5
Crowd queuing simulation with an improved emotional contagion model显示文摘In crowd queuing events, the emotions of individuals are mutually infective, easily confusing the quelling order and possibly leading to crowd events. However, the impact of emotion and personality is not considered in current models of crowd behavior. Other studies focus on social interactions such as emotional transmission [1]. Thus, there is a large difference between the simulation results and the real-life behavior of crowds. To improve the realism of crowd simulation results, we use the knowledge learned from Bosse5S study [2], and propose an emotional contagion method for crowd simulation.Junxiao XUE Hui YIN Pei LV Mingliang XU Yafei LI 2019Science China(Information Sciences)2019,62,4:4
A complex structure of arrestin-2 bound to a G protein-coupled receptor显示文摘Arrestins comprise a family of signal regulators of G-protein-coupled receptors(GPCRs),which include arrestins 1 to 4.While arrestins 1 and 4 are visual arrestins dedicated to rhodopsin, arrestins 2 and 3(Arr2 and Arr3)areβ-arrestins known to regulate many nonvisual GPCRs.The dynamic and promiscuous coupling of Arr2 to nonvisual GPCRs has posed technical challenges to tackle the basis of arrestin binding to GPCRs.Here we report the structure of Arr2 in complex with neurotensin receptor 1(NTSR1),which reveals an overall assembly that is strikingly different from the visual arrestin–rhodopsin complex by a 90°rotation of Arr2 relative to the receptor. In this new configuration, intracellular loop 3(ICL3)and transmembrane helix 6(TM6)of the receptor are oriented toward the N-terminal domain of the arrestin, making it possible for GPCRs that lack the C-terminal tail to couple Arr2 through their ICL3.Molecular dynamics simulation and crosslinking data further support the assembly of the Arr2‒NTSR1 complex.Sequence analysis and homology modeling suggest that the Arr2‒NTSR1 complex structure may provide an alternative template for modeling arrestin–GPCR interactions.Wanchao Yin Zhihai Li Mingliang Jin Yu-Ling Yin Parker Wde Waal Kuntal Pal Yanting Yin Xiang Gao Yuanzheng He Jing Gao Xiaoxi Wang Yan Zhang Hu Zhou Karsten Melcher Yi Jiang Yao Cong X.Edward Zhou Xuekui Yu H.Eric Xu 2019Cell Research2019,29,12:4
Discovery and its geological significance of the mantle- derived helium in the inclusions of the Ordovician oil-bearing reservoir rocks in the Huanghua depression,China显示文摘The values of the helium isotopes in the inclusions of the Ordovician reservoir rocks in the Kongxi buried hill belt in the Huanghua depression were first measured and the source of helium and its geological significance were investigated in comparison with those of the helium isotopes in the conclusions in the Ordovician rocks in the Ordos basin and the Tarim basin. The input of the mantle-derived helium into the inclusions in the carbonate reservoir rocks was found from the Konggu 3 well, the Konggu 4 well, and the Konggu 7 well in the Kongxi buried hill belt. The 3He/4He and R/Ra in the conclusions in the Ordovician oil-bearing reservoir rocks in the Konggu 7 well average 2.54×10-6(3) (sample quantity, the same below) and 1.82(3), respectively. The percent of the mantle-derived helium in the inclusions of the reservoir rocks in the Konggu 7 well reaches up to an average of 23.0%(3). The age of the contribution of the mantle-derived helium to the inclusions in the Kongxi buried hill belt is in the Late Triassic or the Early Tertiary. The finding of the mantle-derived helium shows that the interaction of the deep crust with mantle and the activity of deep faults occurred, the terrestrial heat flow value was high, and mantle-derived inorganic gas pools might be formed in the Kongxi buried hill belt. The finding of the mantle-derived helium in the inclusions of oil-bearing reservoir rocks also provides a new way for researching the activity of mantle-derived matter and its associated geological problems.ZHANG Xiaobao XU Yongchang SUN Mingliang CHENG Keming LIU Wenhui LI Xiufen MA Liyuan 2004Science China Earth Sciences2004,47,1:4
