| 3 | Diversity characterization and association analysis of agronomic traits in a Chinese peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) mini-core collection显示文摘Association mapping is a powerful approach for exploring the molecular basis of phenotypic variations in plants.A peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.)mini-core collection in China comprising 298 accessions was genotyped using 109 simple sequence repeat(SSR)markers,which identified 554 SSR alleles and phenotyped for 15 agronomic traits in three different environments,exhibiting abundant genetic and phenotypic diversity within the panel.A model-based structure analysis assigned all accessions to three groups.Most of the accessions had the relative kinship of less than 0.05,indicating that there were no or weak relationships between accessions of the mini-core collection.For 15 agronomic traits in the peanut panel,generally the Q t K model exhibited the best performance to eliminate the false associated positives compared to the Q model and the general linear model-simple model.In total,89SSR alleles were identified to be associated with 15 agronomic traits of three environments by the Q t K model-based association analysis.Of these,eight alleles were repeatedly detected in two or three environments,and 15 alleles were commonly detected to be associated with multiple agronomic traits.Simple sequence repeat allelic effects confirmed significant differences between different genotypes of these repeatedly detected markers.Our results demonstrate the great potential of integrating the association analysis and marker-assisted breeding by utilizing the peanut mini-core collection. | Huifang Jiang Li Huang Xiaoping Ren Yuning Chen Xiaojing Zhou Youlin Xia Jiaquan Huang Yong Lei Liying Yan Liyun Wan Boshou Liao | 2014 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2014,56,2: | 14 |
| 4 | Meditation promotes insightful problem-solving by keeping people in amindful and alert conscious state显示文摘Although previous studies have shown that sleep can inspire insight,it is still unclear whether meditation can promote insight.Meditation differs from other types of passive rest such as relaxation and sleep because it requires full consciousness andmindfulness of targets such as one's breathing.Forty-eight university students without meditation experience were recruited to learn a simple meditation technique.They were given a list of 10 insight problems to solve (the pre-test session).In this study,we focused on the unsolved problems and examined if they could be successfully solved after a 20min rest interval with or without meditation.Results showed that relative to the control group that listened to Chinese or English words and made a language judgment,the groups who learned meditation successfully solved significantly more failed problems from the pre-test session,providing direct evidence for the role of meditation in promoting insight.Further analysis showed that maintaining amindful and alert state during meditation (raising a hand to report every 10 deep breaths compared to every 100 deep breaths) resulted in more insight regarding the failed items from the pre-test session.This implies that it was watchfulness in meditation,rather than relaxation,that actually contributed to insight.Consistently,in the meditation session or control task,the percentage of alpha waves—a brain index of mental relaxation—was negatively correlated with insight.These results suggest a meditation-based insight-promoting mechanism different from that involved in passive rest such as relaxation and sleep. | REN Jun HUANG ZhiHui LUO Jing WEI GaoXia YING XiaoPing DING ZhiGuang WU YiBin LUO Fei | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,10: | 11 |
| 5 | Holocene aeolian stratigraphic sequences in the eastern portion of the desert belt(sand seas and sandy lands) in northern China and their palaeoenvironmental implications显示文摘This paper presents the environmental history and its responses to palaeoclimatic changes since the start of the Holocene in the eastern portion of the desert belt(sand seas and sandy lands) in northern China by comparing the aeolian sandpalaeosol sequences and their palaeoclimatic proxies. The optically stimulated luminescence(OSL) ages of the aeolian sandpalaeosol sedimentary sequences and a series of palaeoenvironmental proxies show that:(1) The large-scale dune landscape currently in the Kubuqi Sand Sea was formed during the Holocene in general;and the palaeosol was generally developed during the period of 4–2 ka, indicating conditions favorable for vegetation growth, soil development, and organic carbon accumulation due to increased precipitation or effective moisture and weakened aeolian activities;the large-scale expansion of dunes in the recent 2 ka is closely linked to human activities. The variable discharge of the Yellow River with diversions for irrigation may have resulted in a more consistent supply of aeolian particles for dune field expansion.(2) The dune landscape of the Hunshandake Sandy Land was likely formed around 12 ka, and before this, the western part of the Hunshandake Sandy Land would have been covered by a single large lake;it was obviously wetter than today in the sandy land during the period of 9.6–3 ka and the palaeosols were developed at the same time. But the aeolian activities have not been completely dormant in this long-lasting wetter epoch;because the Holocene wetter period was likely time-transgressive across the region.(3) The palaeosol of the Hulunbuir Sandy Land began to develop as early as 14.5 ka, probably continuing until the last 2 ka. The palaeosol development of various dune fields in the eastern portion of the desert belt(sand seas and sandy lands) in northern China is spatially heterogeneous, and even the palaeosol development time in different locations within each sandy land is inconsistent. During the middle Holocene(especially the 7.5–3.5 ka), all the sandy lands were stabilized in general and the intensity of aeolian activities was significantly weakened. The number of palaeoenvironmental records in the eastern portion of the desert belt(sand seas and sandy lands) in northern China has increased rapidly in the past decade, but the amount of published data still does not match the vast extent of the dune fields. | 6 | Status and development of high-power laser facilities at the NLHPLP显示文摘In this paper, we review the status of the multifunctional experimental platform at the National Laboratory of High Power Laser and Physics(NLHPLP). The platform, including the SG-II laser facility, SG-II 9th beam, SG-II upgrade(SG-II UP) facility, and SG-II 5 PW facility, is operational and available for interested scientists studying inertial confinement fusion(ICF) and a broad range of high-energy-density physics. These facilities can provide important experimental capabilities by combining different pulse widths of nanosecond, picosecond, and femtosecond scales. In addition, the SG-II UP facility, consisting of a single petawatt system and an eight-beam nanosecond system, is introduced including several laser technologies that have been developed to ensure the performance of the facility. | 7 | Newborn screening with targeted sequencing:a multicenter investigation and a pilot clinical study in China显示文摘Different newborn screening(NBS) programs have been practiced in many countries since the 1960 s. It is of considerable interest whether next-generation sequencing is applicable in NBS. We have developed a panel of 465 causative genes for 596 early-onset, relatively high incidence, and potentially actionable severe inherited diseases in our Newborn Screening with Targeted Sequencing(NESTS) program to screen 11,484 babies in 8 Women and Children’s hospitals nationwide in China retrospectively. The positive rate from preliminary screening of NESTS was 7.85%(902/11,484). With 45.89%(414/902) follow-up of preliminary positive cases, the overall clinically confirmative diagnosis rate of monogenic disorders was 12.07%(50/414), estimating an average of 0.95%(7.85% × 12.07%) clinical diagnosis rate, suggesting that monogenic disorders account for a considerable proportion of birth defects. The disease/gene spectrum varied in different regions of China. NESTS was implemented in a hospital by screening 3923 newborns to evaluate its clinical application. The turn-around time of a primary report, including the sequencing period of < 7 days, was within 11 days by our automatic interpretation pipeline. | 8 | Fe5C2 nanoparticles as low-cost HER electrocatalyst:the importance of Co substitution显示文摘Constructing and understanding the doping effect of secondary metal in transition metal carbide(TMC)catalysts is pivotal for the design of low-cost hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) electrocatalysts. In this work, we developed a wet-chemistry strategy for synthesizing Co-modified Fe_5C_2 nanoparticles((Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs) as highly active HER electrocatalysts in basic solution. The structure of(Fe_(1-x)Cox)_5C_2 NPs was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectra(EXAFS) and scanning/transmission electron microscopy(S/TEM), indicating that the isomorphous substitution of cobalt in the lattice of Fe_5C_2.(Fe_(0.75) Co_(0.25))_5C_2 exhibited the best HER activity(174 mV for j = -10 mA/cm^2). Computational calculation results indicate that Co provides the most active site for HER. X-ray adsorption spectra(XAS) studies further suggested that the electron transfer in Fe–C bonds are enhanced by the substitution of Co, which modulates the hydrogen adsorption on the adjacent electronic-enriched carbon, and therefore promotes HER activity. | 9 | Soil physical quality as influenced by long-term fertilizer management under an intensive cropping system显示文摘In China’s major rice(Oryza sativa L.)production regions,the traditional fertilization modes are challenged by the continued decrease in manure and increase in mineral fertilizer.However,limited information exists on the influences of long-term fertilizer management on soil organic carbon(SOC)and soil physical properties under the intensive rice production system in southern China.The objective of this study was to characterize the changes of soil physical properties as related to mineral fertilizer,crop residues,and manure application based on a long-term field experiment.The experiment,initiated in 1986,has five treatments:unfertilized,mineral fertilizer alone,rice residues plus mineral fertilizer,low manure rate plus mineral fertilizer,and high manure rate plus mineral fertilizer.The cropping system consists of barley(Hordaum vulgare L.),early rice,and late rice,three crops in a year.In May 2006,after barley harvest,soil samples were collected from the 0~10 cm and 10~20 cm layers to determine SOC concentration,aggregate size distribution,bulk density(rb),saturated hydraulic conductivity(Ks),and soil water characteristic curves(SWCC).The results indicated that manure significantly reducedrb,increased SOC concentration,soil aggregation,Ks,transmission and storage porosity,as well as water retention capacity.Combined application of crop residue and mineral fertilizer also improved soil physical properties,but the improvement by mineral fertilizer alone was limited.Correlation analysis demonstrated that S,the slope of the SWCC at its inflection point,was closely associated with the selected physical parameters,suggesting S was an effective parameter for soil physical quality evaluation.Nevertheless,in applying the S-theory,a unified approach to define the residual water content should be considered. | Du Zhangliu Liu Shufu Xiao Xiaoping Yang Guangli Ren Tusheng | 2009 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2009,2,1: | 4 |

ITO films were deposited on glass and silicon substrate. Electrical, optical, structural and morphological properties of the ITO films were investigated in terms of the preparation conditions. The annealing treatment has improved the properties of the ITO films at different degree. | 14 | Genetic diversity of atoxigenic Aspergillus flavus isolates from peanut kernels in China显示文摘Aflatoxin contamination in peanuts is a major threat to public health, especially in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Recently, the use of atoxigenic Aspergillus flavus strains as biological control agents prove to be effective in reducing aflatoxin contamination in crops. A total of 208 atoxigenic A. flavus isolates, collected from peanut kernels, were grouped into 7 deletion patterns by quadruplex PCR products of nor-1, ver-1, aflR and omtA genes. 49 SNPs, found in 1254 bp fragment of omtA gene, showed genetic variation of omtA among different A. flavus isolates. These isolates were assigned to either MAT1-1 type or MAT1-2 type with primers for each MAT locus. Thus, rich genetic diversity was found in the atoxigenic A. flavus isolates of peanut in China. | 16 | Effects of substituting Ni with M (M=Cu, Al and Mn) on microstructures and electrochemical characteristics of La-Mg-Ni system (PuNi_3-type) electrode alloys显示文摘In order to improve the electrochemical cycle stability of La-Mg-Ni system (PuNi3-type) hydrogen storage alloy, Ni in the alloys was partially substituted by M (M=Cu, Al, Mn). A new La-Mg-Ni system electrode alloys La0.7Mg0.3Ni2.55-xCo0.45Mx (M=Cu, Al, Mn; x=0, 0.1) were prepared by casting and rapid quenching. The effects of element substitution and rapid quenching on the microstructures and electrochemical performances of the alloys were investigated. The results by XRD, SEM and TEM show that the alloys have a multiphase structure, including the (La, Mg)Ni3 phase, the LaNi5 phase and the LaNi2 phase. The rapid quenching and element substitution have an imperceptible influence on the phase compositions of the alloys, but both change the phase abundance of the alloys. The rapid quenching significantly improves the composition homogeneity of the alloys and markedly decreases the grain size of the alloys. The Cu substitution promotes the formation of an amorphous phase in the as-quenched alloy, and a reversal result by the Al substitution. The electrochemical measurement indicates that the element substitution decreases the discharge capacity of the alloys, whereas it obviously improves the cycle stability of the alloys. The positive influence of element substitution on the cycle life of the alloys is in sequence Al>Cu>Mn, and negative influence on the discharge capacity is in sequence Al>Mn>Cu.
