| 1 | Change of Annual Extreme Water Levels and Correlation with River Discharges in the Middle-lower Yangtze River: Characteristics and Possible Affecting Factors显示文摘As one of the fastest developing regions in China, the middle-lower Yangtze River(MLYR) is vulnerable to floods and droughts. With obtained time series of annual highest water level(HWL), annual lowest water level(LWL) and the corresponding river discharges from three gauging stations in MLYR that covering the period 1987–2011, the current study evaluated the change characteristics of annual extreme water levels and the correlation with river discharges by using the methods of trend test, Mann-Whitney-Pettitt(MWP) test and double mass analysis. Major result indicated a decreasing/increasing trend for annual HWL/LWL of all stations in MLYR during the study period. A change point in 1999 was identified for annual HWL at the Hankou and Datong stations. The year 2006 was found to be the critical year that the relationship between annual extreme water levels and river discharges changed in the MLYR. With contrast to annual LWL in MLYR, further investigation revealed that the change characteristics of annual HWL were highly consistent with regional precipitation in the Yangtze River Basin, while the linkage with Three Gorges Dam(TGD) operation is not strong. Our observation also pointed out that the effect of serious down cutting of the riverbed and the enlargement of the cross-section area during the initial period of TGD operation caused the downward trend of the relationship between annual LWL and river discharge. | 3 | Variation of Floods Characteristics and Their Responses to Climate and Human Activities in Poyang Lake, China显示文摘The Poyang Lake is one of the most frequently flooded areas in China. Understanding the changing characteristics of floods as well as the affecting factors is an important prerequisite of flood disaster prevention and mitigation. The present study identified the characteristics variations of historical floods in the Poyang Lake and their tendencies based on the Mann-Kendall(M-K) test, and also investigated the related affecting factors, both from climate and human activities. The results revealed that the highest flood stages, duration as well as hazard coefficient of floods showed a long-term increasing linear trend during the last 60 years with the M-K statistic of 1.49, 1.60 and 1.50, respectively. And, a slightly increasing linear trend in the timing of the highest stages indicated the floods occurred later and later during the last six decades. The rainfall during the flood season and subsequent discharges of the Changjiang(Yangtze) River and runoff from the Poyang Lake Basin were mainly responsible for the severe flood situation in the Poyang Lake in the 1990 s. In addition, the intensive human activities, including land reclamation and levee construction, also played a supplementary role in increasing severity of major floods. | 4 | Collision-free Scheduling of Multi-bridge Machining Systems: A Colored Traveling Salesman Problem-based Approach显示文摘Multi-bridge machining systems(MBMS) have gained wide applications in industry due to their high production capacity and efficiency. They contain multiple bridge machines working in parallel within their partially overlapping workspaces.Their scheduling problems can be abstracted into a serial-colored travelling salesman problem in which each salesman has some exclusive cities and some cities shared with its neighbor(s). To solve it, we develop a greedy algorithm that selects a neighboring city satisfying proximity. The algorithm allows a salesman to select randomly its shared cities and runs accordingly many times. It can thus be used to solve job scheduling problems for MBMS. Subsequently, a collision-free scheduling method is proposed to address both job scheduling and collision resolution issues of MBMS. It is an extension of the greedy algorithm by introducing time window constraints and a collision resolution mechanism. Thus, the augmented greedy algorithm can try its best to select stepwise a job for an individual machine such that no time overlaps exist between it and the job sequence of the neighboring machine dealt in the corresponding overlapping workspace; and remove such a time overlap only when it is inevitable. | 5 | Identification of selenocyst-eine insertion sequence(SECIS) element in eukaryotic selenoproteins by RNA Draw program显示文摘The computer program RNA Draw was used to identify the secondary structures in the 3’untranslated regions (3’UTRs) of the mRNAs from 46 eukaryotic seleno-proteins among 7 species. The program found one or two possible SECIS elements in these selenoproteins. The SECIS element consists of a stem-loop or hairpin structure with three conserved sequences of AUGA-(A)AA-GA. SECIS element was not found by the RNA Draw program in randomly selected non-selenoproteins. The results showed that SECIS element is the unique character of the genes ofeukaryotic selenoproteins. | 6 | Influence of Exhaust Gas Recirculation on Low-Load Diesel Engine Performance显示文摘In the condition of constant speed and light load, an experimental study of a turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine with exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system focuses on the influence of different EGR rates on combustion process, dynamic performance, economic performance and emission performance of a diesel engine. With the increase of EGR rate, the oxygen concentration of the intake-side decreases, the fuel air equivalence ratio increases, and the maximum explosion pressure in the cylinder decreases. Meanwhile, the average temperature in the cylinder drops, the ignition delay is prolonged, the ignition timing delays, and the maximum heat release rate decreases. The increase of EGR rate makes NO_x emissions decrease obviously and continue to decline. When EGR is low, the smoke rate enlarges slowly with the increase of EGR rate, and enlarges greatly at the rate higher than 43% and reaches the maximum at the rate of 57%.
