| 1 | Coagulation efficiency and flocs characteristics of recycling sludge during treatment of low temperature and micro-polluted water显示文摘Drinking water treatment sludge,characterized as accumulated suspended solids and organic and inorganic matter,is produced in large quantities during the coagulation process.The proper disposal,regeneration or reuse of sludge is,therefore,a significant environmental issue.Reused sludge at low temperatures is an alternative method to enhance traditional coagulation efficiency.In the present study,the recycling mass of mixed sludge and properties of raw water (such as pH and turbidity) were systematically investigated to optimize coagulation efficiency.We determined that the appropriate dosage of mixed sludge was 60 mL/L,effective initial turbidity ranges were below 45.0 NTU,and optimal pH for DOMs and turbidity removal was 6.5-7.0 and 8.0,respectively.Furthermore,by comparing the flocs characteristics with and without recycling sludge,we found that floc structures with sludge were more irregular with average size growth to 64.7 μm from 48.1 μm.Recycling sludge was a feasible and successful method for enhancing pollutants removal,and the more irregular flocs structure after recycling might be caused by breakage of reused flocs and incorporation of powdered activated carbon into larger flocs structure.Applied during the coagulation process,recycling sludge could be significant for the treatment of low temperature and micro-polluted source water. | Zhiwei Zhou Yanling Yang Xing Li Wei Gao Heng Liang Guibai Li | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,6: | 12 |
| 2 | Optimized coagulation pretreatment alleviates ultrafiltration membrane fouling: The role of floc properties and slow-mixing speed on mechanisms of chitosan-assisted coagulation显示文摘To alleviate ultrafiltration(UF) membrane fouling, the pre-coagulation of poly-aluminum chloride(PACl) with the aid of chitosan(CTS) was conducted for synthetic humic acid–kaolin water treatment. Pre-coagulation of three molecular weights(MW) CTSs(50–190 kDa(CTSL), 190–310 kDa(CTSM) and 310–375 kDa(CTSH)) was optimized with slow-mixing speeds of 30, 60 and 90 r/min, respectively. The removal efficiency and floc properties as well as membrane fouling were analyzed, and were compared to results obtained by conventional coagulation with PACl. Results showed that variations in floc properties could be ascribed to the coagulation mechanisms of CTS_L/CTS_M/CTS_H at different slow-mixing speeds, resulting in reduced UF membrane fouling. Specifically, at the low speed of 30 r/min, all three CTS types produced flocs with similar properties, while CTSLresulted in the lowest removal efficiency and aggravated irreversible fouling. At the appropriate speed of 60 r/min, CTSMgenerated the most compact flocs with the combined effects of bridging and path mechanisms. The compact cake layer formed could alleviate irreversible fouling,which was beneficial for prolonging the operation of the UF membrane. At the high speed of90 r/min, CTSHformed fragile flocs and aggravated irreversible membrane fouling. | 4 | Changes in compressed neurons from dogs with acute and severe cauda equina constrictions following intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor-conjugated polymer nanoparticles显示文摘This study established a dog model of acute multiple cauda equina constriction by experimental constriction injury (48 hours) of the lumbosacral central processes in dorsal root ganglia neurons. The repair effect of intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor with 15 mg encapsulated biodegradable poly(lactide-co-glycolide) nanoparticles on this injury was then analyzed. Dorsal root ganglion cells (L7) of all experimental dogs were analyzed using hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemistry at 1, 2 and 4 weeks following model induction. Intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor can relieve degeneration and inflammation, and elevate the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in sensory neurons of compressed dorsal root ganglion. Simultaneously, intrathecal injection of brain-derived neurotrophic factor obviously improved neurological function in the dog model of acute multiple cauda equina constriction. | 9 | Resource-constrained maximum network throughput on space networks显示文摘This paper investigates the maximum network throughput for resource-constrained space networks based on the delay and disruption-tolerant networking(DTN) architecture. Specifically,this paper proposes a methodology for calculating the maximum network throughput of multiple transmission tasks under storage and delay constraints over a space network. A mixed-integer linear programming(MILP) is formulated to solve this problem. Simulations results show that the proposed methodology can successfully calculate the optimal throughput of a space network under storage and delay constraints, as well as a clear, monotonic relationship between end-to-end delay and the maximum network throughput under storage constraints. | 19 | Functional evaluation of the insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling pathway in determination of wing polyphenism in pea aphid显示文摘Wing polyphenism is a common phenomenon that plays key roles in environmental adaptation of insects.Insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling(IIS)pathway is a highly conserved pathway in regulation of metabolism,development,and growth in metazoans.It has been reported that IS is required for switching of wing morph in brown planthopper via regulating the development of the wing pad.However,it remains elusive whether and how IIS pathway regulates transgenerational wing dimorphism in aphid.In this study,we found that pairing and solitary treatments can induce pea aphids to produce high and low percentage winged offspring,respectively.The expression level of ILP5(insulin-like peptide 5)in maternal head was significantly higher upon solitary treatment in comparison with pairing,while silencing of ILP5 caused no obvious change in the winged offspring ratio.RNA interference-mediated knockdown of FoxO(Forkhead transcription factor subgroup O)in stage 20 embryos significantly increased the winged offspring ratio.The results of pharmacological and quantitative polymerase chain reaction experiments showed that the embryonic insulin receptors may not be involved in wing polyphenism.Additionally,ILP4 and ILP11 exhibited higher expression levels in 1st wingless offspring than in winged offspring.We demonstrate that FoxO negatively regulates the wing morph development in embryos.ILPs may regulate aphid wing polyphenism in a developmental stage-specific manner.However,the regulation may be not mediated by the canonical IIS pathway.The findings advance our understanding of IIS pathway in insect transgenerational wing polyphenism. | Yiyang Yuan Yanyan Wang Wanwan Ye Erliang Yuan Jian Di Xin Chen Yanling Xings Yucheng Sun Feng Ge | 2023 | Insect Science2023,30,3: | 0 |
