1The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector,automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. 2Neoadjuvant peptide receptor radionuclide therapy for an inoperable neuroendocrine pancreatic tumor显示文摘Pancreatic endocrine tumors are rare but are among the most common neuroendocrine neoplasms of the abdomen.At diagnosis many of them are already advanced and diff icult to treat.We report on an initially inoperable malignant pancreatic endocrine tumor in a 33-year-old woman,who received neoadjuvant peptide receptor radionuclide therapy(PRRT)as firstline treatment.This resulted in a signif icant downstaging of the tumor and allowed its subsequent complete surgical removal.Follow-up for eighteen months revealed a complete remission.This is the first report on neoadjuvant PRRT in a neuroendocrine neoplasm with subsequent successful complete resection.Daniel Kaemmerer Vikas Prasad Wolfgang Daffner Dieter Hrsch Günter Klppel Merten Hommann Richard P Baum 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,46:2

5Inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopic and flame photometric analysis of goat epididymal fluid显示文摘Aim: The elemental composition of the epididymal luminal fluid (ELF) in adult goat (Capra indica) was investigated. Methods: ELF was collected by micropuncture from twelve sites along the epididymal duct. The elemental contents was analyzed with inductively coupled plasma (ICP) emission spectroscopy, a microanalytical technique that can simultaneously measure many elements in minute volumes of sample. The Na and K concentrations were determined by flame photometry. Results: ICP spectroscopy showed the presence of copper, calcium, nickel, iron, magnesium, chromium, titanium and zinc in ELF, with fluctuating levels at different sites along the length of the epididymis.Cadmium, cobalt, lead and manganese were not found. The Na^+/K^+ ratio was seen to be higher at the initial segments of the epididymis and lower at the distal. Conclusion: It is proposed that the observed characteristic distribution of elements in ELF may have far reaching implications in sperm maturation and storage known to occur in the epididymis. 6Evaluating location specific strain rates, temperatures,and accumulated strains in friction welds through microstructure modeling显示文摘A microstructural simulation method is adopted to predict the location specific strain rates, temperatures, grain evolution, and accumulated strains in the Inconel 718 friction welds. Cellular automata based 2D microstructure model was developed for Inconel 718 alloy using theoretical aspects of dynamic recrystallization. Flow curves were simulated and compared with experimental results using hot deformation parameter obtained from literature work. Using validated model, simulations were performed for friction welds of Inconel 718 alloy generated at three rotational speed i.e., 1200, 1500, and1500 RPM. Results showed the increase in strain rates with increasing rotational speed. These simulated strain rates were found to match with the analytical results. Temperature difference of 150 K was noticed from center to edge of the weld. 8Non chylous filarial ascites: A rare case report显示文摘Filariasis is a common health problem in tropical and subtropical regions including India. It commonly presents with lymphatic involvement in form of nonpitting pedal edema, chylous ascites, chyluria,hydrocele and lymphocele. Detection of microfilaria in ascitic fluid is an extremely uncommon finding.
