| 1 | Hypoxia,HIF-1α,and COVID-19:from pathogenic factors to potential therapeutic targets显示文摘The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and its pathogen,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)have become the greatest current threat to global public health.The highly infectious SARS-CoV-2 virus primarily attacks pulmonary tissues and impairs gas exchange leading to acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)and systemic hypoxia.The current pharmacotherapies for COVID-19 largely rely on supportive and anti-thrombi treatment and the repurposing of antimalarial and antiviral drugs such as hydroxychloroquine and remdesivir.For a better mechanistic understanding of COVID-19,our present review focuses on its primary pathophysiologic features:hypoxia and cytokine storm,which are a prelude to multiple organ failure and lethality.We discussed a possible link between the activation of hypoxia inducible factor 1α(HIF-1α)and cell entry of SARS-CoV-2,since HIF-1αis shown to suppress the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)receptor and transmembrane protease serine 2(TMPRSS2)and upregulate disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 17(ADAM17).In addition,the protein targets of HIF-1αare involved with the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokine expression and the subsequent inflammatory process.Furthermore,we hypothesized a potential utility of so-called“hypoxic conditioning”to activate HIF-1α-induced cytoprotective signaling for reduction of illness severity and improvement of vital organ function in patients with COVID-19.Taken together,we would propose further investigations into the hypoxia-related molecular mechanisms,from which novel targeted therapies can be developed for the improved management of COVID-19. | Zoya O.Serebrovska Elisa Y.Chong Tetiana V.Serebrovska Lesia V.Tumanovska Lei Xi | 2020 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,12: | 5 |
| 2 | Antiviral activity of Basidiomycete mycelia against influenza type A(serotype H1N1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 in cell culture显示文摘In this study, we investigated the in vitro antiviral activity of the mycelia of higher mushrooms against influenza virus type A(serotype H1N1) and herpes simplex virus type 2(HSV-2), strain BH. All 10 investigated mushroom species inhibited the reproduction of influenza virus strain A/FM/1/47(H1N1) in MDCK cells reducing the infectious titer by 2.0–6.0 lg ID50. Four species, Pleurotus ostreatus, Fomes fomentarius, Auriporia aurea, and Trametes versicolor, were also determined to be effective against HSV-2 strain BH in RK-13 cells, with similar levels of inhibition as for influenza. For some of the investigated mushroom species—Pleurotus eryngii, Lyophyllum shimeji, and Flammulina velutipes—this is the first report of an anti-influenza effect. This study also reports the first data on the medicinal properties of A. aurea, including anti-influenza and antiherpetic activities. T. versicolor 353 mycelium was found to have a high therapeutic index(324.67), and may be a promising material for the pharmaceutical industry as an anti-influenza and antiherpetic agent with low toxicity. | 3 | Theoretical simulation of T2SLs InAs/GaSb cascade photodetector for HOT condition显示文摘The investigation of the interband type-II superlattice In As/Ga Sb cascade photodetector in the temperature range of 320–380 K is presented. The article is devoted to the theoretical modeling of the cascade detector characteristics by the use of the Simu Apsys platform and the 4-band model(k?p 8 × 8 method). The obtained theoretical characteristics are comparable with experimentally measured ones, suggesting that transport in the absorber is determined by the dynamics of intrinsic carriers and by their lifetime. An overlap equal to 120 me V was used in calculations and a correction term in the 'non-common atom' model H_(xy) = 700 me V was added to the Hamiltonian. The electron and hole effective masses from dispersion curves were estimated and absorption coefficient α was calculated. Based on the simulation detectivity, D* characteristics in the temperature range 320–380 K were calculated. | 16 | The effect of two COVID-19 lockdowns on physical activity of school-age children显示文摘The introduction of strict quarantine restrictions in many countries initiated a direction in science to study the behavioral characteristics of children and adolescents during the social isolation at the population level.We present our observations during the two lockdowns in Ukraine.The objective of this study was to determine:a)the level of light(LPA)and moderate-to-vigorous(MVPA)physical activity among school-age children,and b)the impact of the external and internal factors on their physical activity during the lockdown.Global Physical Activity Questionnaire(GPAQ)as part of our questionnaire Q-RAPH was used.Parents of 1091 children 6–18 years old(54%boys)filled Q-RAPH at two measurement points in 2020 and 2021.After performing ANCOVA and logistic regression,we found a significant decrease in MVPA by 12.7%in 2021 compared to 2020(p<0.001)while LPA was about 1.5 h a day during both periods.The proportion of children who reach the recommended levels of MVPA also decreased by 13.7%in 2021(p<0.001).Factors negatively affecting the achievement of 60 min a day of MVPA were female gender,chronic diseases,overweight/obesity,non-participation in organized sports,and a decrease in the average air temperature.This study evidences the insufficient level of preventive measures and requires an intensification of health education among the Ukrainian population.When developing preventive measures,special attention should be paid to groups vulnerable to MVPA reduction as children who have chronic diseases and/or overweight/obesity as well as non-participation in sports. | Olena Yelizarova Tetiana Stankevych Alla Parats Nadiya Polka Oksana Lynchak Nataliya Diuba Svitlana Hozak | 2022 | Sports Medicine and Health Science2022,4,2: | 0 |

| 20 | Confronting Nuclear Tyranny: Role of Eco-nationalism in Development of Environmental Movement in Ukraine显示文摘In the USSR there has never been a “pure” environmental movement. Dictate of Moscow in decision-making led to the location of a disproportionately large number of the nuclear power stations and industrial enterprises on the territory of Ukraine. Chernobyl accident demonstrated the consequences of this approach and became the symbol of inequality of relations between the member nations in the Soviet Union. Therefore, environmentalism and nationalism in many Soviet Republics had convergence albeit to varying degrees. The purpose of this research is to contribute to the further understanding and interpretation of the concept of eco-nationalism, proposed by J. Dawson. The article demonstrates that the basis for its development in Ukrainian USSR was not only the Chernobyl accident, but also the expansion of the nuclear facilities in Ukraine (what can be considered nuclear tyranny) along with the existence of a large number of industrial enterprises that polluted the environment.
