| 1 | Peginterferon and ribavirin treatment for hepatitis C virus infection显示文摘Pegylated interferon α (IFNα) in combination with ribavirin is currently recommended as a standard-of-care treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. This combination therapy has drastically improved the rate of sustained virological response, specifically in difficult-to-treat patients. Recently, individualized treatment, such as response-guided therapy, is being developed based on host-, HCV- and treatment-related factors. Furthermore, modified regimens with currently available medications, novel modified IFNα and ribavirin or combinations with specifically targeted antiviral therapy for HCV agents, are currently being investigated. | 3 | Association between tear film break up time and blink interval in visual display terminal users显示文摘AIM:To investigate the association between tear film break up time(TBUT)and blinking interval in visual display terminal(VDT)users.METHODS:Nine hundred and thirty VDT users underwent dry eye testing,and functional visual acuity(FVA)test.The blinking interval during FVA was compared with TBUT.Subjects with longer blinking interval than TBUT were considered as unstable tear film.Logistic regression analysis revealed the risk factors for unstable tear group.RESULTS:Among 930 workers,858 subjects(92.3%)participated in this study.Almost 80% of the subjects were categorized into the unstable tear group.Unstable tear group has significantly lower Schirmer values and TBUT(17.5±11.6 vs 21.1±11.5 mm,3.7±2.6 vs 5.7±2.7s,both P<0.001).There were no significant differences in epithelial staining or severity of symptoms.Logistic regression showed that over 40y was a risk for being unstable tear group[odds ratio(OR)=1.53;95%confidence interval(CI)=1.06-2.20].Contact lens use was protective factor for being in the unstable tear group(OR=0.37;95%CI=0.26-0.53).CONCLUSION:Subjects with shorter TBUT than blinking interval are prevalent among VDT users.Subjects over the age of 40 shows an increased risk for unstable tear film. | Miki Uchino Motoko Kawashima Yuichi Uchino Kazuo Tsubota Norihiko Yokoi | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018,11,10: | 5 |
| 4 | Gender differences in adolescent dry eye disease:a health problem in girls显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease(DED) in adolescents. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional, case-control study and outpatients aged 10 to 19y were recruited from six eye clinics of various practices and locations in Japan, and 253 non-DED subjects and 70 DED patients were enrolled. Participants were examined for DED-related signs. Patients were also interviewed to ascertain the presence or absence of six common DED-related symptoms: dryness, irritation, pain, eye fatigue, blurring, and photophobia. Main outcome measures were differences in signs and symptoms of dry eye disease between boys and girls.RESULTS: Of the 323 adolescents recruited, 70(21.7%) were diagnosed with DED. Significant differences between the non-DED and DED groups were found for short tear break-up time(BUT; ≤5s; P=0.000) and superficial punctate keratopathy(SPK; staining score ≥3; P=0.000). Late adolescent girls reported fewer symptoms than late adolescent boys, although their DED-related signs were worse compared to other groups. The prevalence and severity of DED were similar in the Tokyo area compared with suburban and local areas but myopic errors were worse. CONCLUSION: We find that adolescents reported symptoms of DED similar to those found in adults, and the majority have short BUT-type DED. The prevalence and severity of DED in late adolescent girls is comparable with adults. | 5 | Multi-scale modeling of hemodynamics in the cardiovascular system显示文摘The human cardiovascular system is a closedloop and complex vascular network with multi-scaled heterogeneous hemodynamic phenomena. Here, we give a selective review of recent progress in macro-hemodynamic modeling, with a focus on geometrical multi-scale modeling of the vascular network, micro-hemodynamic modeling of microcirculation, as well as blood cellular, subcellular,endothelial biomechanics, and their interaction with arterial vessel mechanics. We describe in detail the methodology of hemodynamic modeling and its potential applications in cardiovascular research and clinical practice. | 7 | Effects of denosumab treatment in chronic liver disease patients with osteoporosis显示文摘BACKGROUND Effective treatment of osteoporosis is essential for improving morbidity and health-related quality of life in chronic liver disease(CLD)patients.Denosumab has been shown to increase bone mineral density(BMD)and decrease the risk of osteoporotic fracture in the general population.However,there are few reports evaluating the efficacy of denosumab in CLD patients.AIM To investigated the effects and safety of denosumab in CLD patients with osteoporosis.METHODS Sixty CLD patients with osteoporosis were subcutaneously administered denosumab once every 6 mo.The study period for evaluating efficacy and safety was 12 mo.Changes from baseline in BMD at the lumbar spine,femoral neck,and total hip were evaluated at 12 mo of denosumab treatment.Bone turnover and quality were assessed by measuring serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b(bone resorption marker),serum total procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide(bone formation maker),and plasma pentosidine(bone quality marker).RESULTS Among the 405 CLD patients,138(34.1%)patients were diagnosed with osteoporosis;among these,78 patients met the exclusion criteria and thus 60 patients were finally included in the present study.The median percentage changes from baseline to 12 mo of denosumab treatment in BMD at the lumbar spine,femoral neck,and total hip were+4.44%,+3.71%,and+4.03%,respectively.Denosumab significantly improved BMD,regardless of sex,patient age,and presence of liver cirrhosis.Serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b and procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide levels constantly and significantly declined after denosumab treatment(P<0.001).Plasma pentosidine levels were also significantly lower at 12 mo of treatment(P=0.010).No patients experienced fractures and moderate-to-severe adverse events,except for transient hypocalcemia.CONCLUSION Denosumab treatment was safe and increased BMD,suppressed bone turnover,and improved bone quality marker levels in CLD patients with osteoporosis,irrespective of differences in baseline characteristics. | Chisato Saeki Mitsuru Saito Tsunekazu Oikawa Masanori Nakano Yuichi Torisu Masayuki Saruta Akihito Tsubota | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,33: | 3 |

| 9 | Enhancing soil water holding capacity and provision of a potassium source via optimization of the pyrolysis of bamboo biochar显示文摘Rapid expansion of cultivated bamboo negatively impacts on biodiversity and soil microbial community.As such,it is important to properly manage and use bamboo to prevent and control such issues.This study focuses on optimizing pyrolysis conditions to produce bamboo biochar for agricultural soil amendment,particularly soil potassium(K)and water holding capacity.Bamboo chips were pyrolyzed under nitrogen gas at 400,600,and 800℃ for 1 and 2 h of retention.A total of six biochar products were created:400-1(i.e.,400℃ in 1 h),400-2,600-1,600-2,800-1,and 800-2.The 600℃ bamboo biochar products were observed to have the greatest potential in increasing soil K and water holding capacity.The 600-1 product had the highest potassium content(4.87%),with a water holding capacity of 3.73 g g^(−1),while the 600-2 product had the second-highest potassium content(4.13%)and the highest water holding capacity(4.21 g g^(−1))and cation exchange capacity.The K release in 600℃ products was larger and slower than that of the 400℃ and 800℃ products,respectively.The results also indicated that the physicochemical characteristics of bamboo biochar,such as yield,pH,surface area,water holding capacity,and K content,were significantly impacted by temperature,retention time,or a combination of these parameters.The outcomes from this study are a valuable reference for bamboo biochar production targeting agricultural soil amendment,particularly when it is directed at increasing soil K and water holding capacity. | Tran Thi Thu Hien Toshiki Tsubota Tomoyuki Taniguchi Yoshiyuki Shinogi | 2021 | Biochar2021,3,1: | 3 |
| 10 | Early apoptosis and cell death induced by ATX-S10Na(Ⅱ)-mediated photodynamic therapy are Bax- and p53-dependent in human colon cancer cells显示文摘AIM: To investigate the roles of Bax and p53 proteins in photosensitivity of human colon cancer cells by using lysosome-localizing photosensitizer, ATX-S10Na (Ⅱ).METHODS: HCT116 human colon cancer cells and Bax-null or p53-null isogenic derivatives were irradiated with a diode laser. Early apoptosis and cell death in response to photodynamic therapy were determined by MTT assays, annexin V assays, transmission electron microscopy assays, caspase assays and western blotting.RESULTS: Induction of early apoptosis and cell death was Bax- and p53-dependent. Bax and p53 were required for caspase-dependent apoptosis. The levels of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins, Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, were decreased in Bax- and p53-independent manner.CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that early apoptosis and cell death of human colon cancer cells induced by photodynamic therapy with lysosome-localizing photosensitizer ATX-S10Na (Ⅱ) are mediated by p53-Bax network and low levels of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL proteins. | 11 | Four-week pegylated interferon a-2a monotherapy for chronic hepatitis C with genotype 2 and low viral load:A pilot,randomized study显示文摘AIM:To assess the efficacy and advantages of 4-wk pegylated interferon a-2a(peg-IFN-a2a) monotherapy for chronic hepatitis C patients with strong predictors of sustained virologic response(SVR).METHODS:Patients(n = 33) with genotype 2 and low viral load(< 100 KIU/mL),who became HCV RNA negative after 1 wk of IFN treatment,were randomly allocated to receive a 4-or 12-wk treatment course at a ratio of 2:1,respectively,with a subsequent 24-wk follow-up period.Peg-IFN-a2a was administered subcutaneously at a dose of 180 μg or 90 μg once weekly.SVR was defined as absence of serum HCV RNA at the end of the follow-up period.RESULTS:All patients completed the treatment schedule,and more than half were symptom-free during the treatment.In the 4-wk treatment group,20 of 22(91%) patients achieved SVR.Two patients relapsed,but achieved SVR following re-treatment with peg-IFN-a2a alone.In the 12-wk treatment group,11 of 11(100%) patients attained SVR.CONCLUSION:Our results show that a 4-wk course of peg-IFN-a2a monotherapy can achieve a high SVR rate in 'IFN-sensitive' patients,without negatively affecting outcome. | Akihito Tsubota Ken-ichi Satoh Mashu Aizawa Seishi Takamatsu Yoshihisa Namiki Toshifumi Ohkusa Kiyotaka Fujise Hisao Tajiri | 2008 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2008,14,47: | 3 |
