| 1 | Colorectal cancer burden and trends:Comparison between China and major burden countries in the world显示文摘Objective:To summarize the colorectal cancer(CRC)burden and trend in the world,and compare the difference of CRC burden between other countries and China.Methods:Incidence and mortality data were extracted from the GLOBOCAN2018 and Cancer Incidence in Five Continents.Age-specific incidence trend was conducted by Joinpoint analysis and average annual percent changes were calculated.Results:About 1.85 million new cases and 0.88 million deaths were expected in 2018 worldwide,including 0.52 million(28.20%)new cases and 0.25 million(28.11%)deaths in China.Hungary had the highest age-standardized incidence and mortality rates in the world,while for China,the incidence and mortality rates were only half of that.CRC incidence and mortality were highly correlated with human development index(HDI).Unlike the rapid increase in Republic of Korea and the downward trend in Canada and Australia,the age-standardized incidence rates by world standard population in China and Norway were rising gradually.The age-specific incidence rate in the age group of 50-59 years in China was increasing rapidly,while in Republic of Korea and Canada,the fastest growing age group was 30-39 years.Conclusions:The variations of CRC burden reflect the difference of risk factors,as well as levels of HDI and screening(early detection activities).The burden of CRC in China is high,and the incidence of CRC continues to increase,which may lead to a sustained increase in the burden of CRC in China in the future.Screening should be expanded to control CRC,and focused on young people in China. | Jiachen Zhou Rongshou Zheng Siwei Zhang Hongmei Zeng Shaoming Wang Ru Chen Kexin Sun Minjuan Li Jianhua Gu Guihua Zhuang Wenqiang Wei | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,1: | 16 |
| 2 | Adjuvant chemotherapy with paclitaxel and cisplatin in lymph node-positive thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Objective:No standard postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy has ever been established in node-positive esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).This is a study to explore the effect of postoperative paclitaxel(PTX)and cisplatin(DDP)in lymph node-positive,completely resected thoracic ESCC patients.Methods:We conducted a prospective phase II trial.Patients had pathologically node-positive thoracic ESCC with negative margins.Outcomes of disease-free survival(DFS)and overall survival(OS)were compared with a matched historical control cohort.The postoperative chemotherapy regimen consisted of 4 to 6 cycles of PTX 150mg/m2 administered intravenously on d 1 followed by DDP 50 mg/m2 on d 2 every 14 d.Results:Forty-three patients were accrued from December 2007 to May 2012 at Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences for adjuvant chemotherapy.The historical control group consisted of 80 patients who received complete resection but no adjuvant chemotherapy during the same period of time.Of the 43 patients with adjuvant chemotherapy,37(86.0%)patients completed 4 to 6 cycles of chemotherapy.The 3-year DFS rates were56.3%in the adjuvant group and 34.6%in the control group(P=0.006).The 3-year OS rates were 55.0%in the adjuvant group and 37.5%in the control group(P=0.013).Multivariate analysis revealed that postoperative chemotherapy was the significant predictor for improved OS(P=0.005).Conclusions:Biweekly adjuvant PTX and DDP might improve 3-year DFS and OS in lymph node-positive,curatively resected thoracic ESCC patients.These conclusions warrant further study in randomized phase III clinical trials. | Liangze Zhang Weiwei Li Xiao Lyu Yan Song Yousheng Mao Shaoming Wang Jing Huang | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2017,29,2: | 15 |
| 3 | Cancer statistics in Chinese older people,2022:current burden,time trends,and comparisons with the US,Japan,and the Republic of Korea显示文摘Largely due to population ageing,the cancer burden from older people has been rising,which imposed considerable pressure on current Chinese healthcare system.We provide comprehensive information about cancer burden of Chinese older people based on the most recent data from National Central Cancer Registry of China.The logarithmic linear regression was used to project the current cancer burden in 2022,and Joinpoint regression was used for temporal trend analysis from 2000 to 2017.We also estimated cancer statistics of older people in the US,Japan and the Republic of Korea for comparisons.It is estimated that 2.79 million cases and 1.94 million deaths occur for Chinese older people,representing 55.8%and 68.2%of cases and deaths in all population in 2022.The overall cancer incidence rate gradually increased among older women,while the mortality rates declined for both sexes.Notably,approximately 10.0%of all cases and 17.7%of all deaths are from people aged over 80 years,and cancer incidence and mortality in this age group showed upward trends for women.Lung cancer and digestive cancers are the leading cancer types for Chinese older people.Compared with other countries,China has lower incidence rates but higher mortality rates for older people.The rapidly growing burden of prostate cancer,breast cancer,colorectal cancer,and declines in esophageal cancer,stomach cancer,and liver cancer among older people indicate the cancer pattern in China is being in a transition stage to that in developed countries.Our findings imply that it should be the national health priority to meet the growing demands for cancer diagnosis,treatment and care services from the older people as the rapid population ageing in next few decades. | Wen Ju Rongshou Zheng Siwei Zhang Hongmei Zeng Kexin Sun Shaoming Wang Ru Chen Li Li Wenqiang Wei Jie He | 2023 | Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,5: | 15 |
| 4 | Performance of a completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite process for treating wastewater with different substrates at ambient temperature显示文摘The stability and parameters of a bio-ceramic filter for completely autotrophic nitrogen removal were investigated.The completely autotrophic nitrogen removal over nitrite(CANON) reactor was fed with different concentrations of ammonia(400,300,and 200mg N/L) but constant influent ammonia load.The results showed that the CANON system can achieve good treatment performance at ambient temperature(15-23°C).The average removal rate and removal loading of NH4+-N and TN was 83.90%,1.26kg N/(m3·day),and 70.14%,1.09kg N/(m3·day),respectively.Among the influencing factors like pH,dissolved oxygen and alkalinity,it was indicated that the pH was the key parameter of the performance of the CANON system.Observing the variation of pH would contribute to better control of the CANON system in an intuitive and fast way.Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of microorganisms further revealed that there were some significant changes in the community structure of ammonium oxidizing bacteria,which had low diversity in different stages,while the species of anaerobic ammonium oxidizing(anammox) bacteria were fewer and the community composition was relatively stable.These observations showed that anaerobic ammonia oxidation was more stable than the aerobic ammonia oxidation,which could explain that why the CANON system maintained a good removal efficiency under the changing substrate conditions. | Xiaoyan Chang Dong Li Yuhai Liang Zhuo Yang Shaoming Cui Tao Liu Huiping Zeng Jie Zhang | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,4: | 12 |

| 7 | Advances in crop phenotyping and multi-environment trials显示文摘Efficient evaluation of crop phenotypes is a prerequisite for breeding, cultivar adoption, genomics and phenomics study. Plant genotyping is developing rapidly through the use of high-throughput sequencing techniques,while plant phenotyping has lagged far behind and it has become the rate-limiting factor in genetics, large-scale breeding and development of new cultivars. In this paper,we consider crop phenotyping technology under three categories. The first is high-throughput phenotyping techniques in controlled environments such as greenhouses or specifically designed platforms. The second is a phenotypic strengthening test in semi-controlled environments, especially for traits that are difficult to be tested in multi-environment trials(MET), such as lodging, drought and disease resistance. The third is MET in uncontrolled environments, in which crop plants are managed according to farmer's cultural practices. | 11 | Improvement of Foaming and Emulsifying Properties of Gluten by Conjugation with Fructose through Maillard Reaction显示文摘Gluten has poor emulsifying and foaming ability due to its amino acid composition. In this study, Maillard reaction was used to improve the emulsifying and foaming properties of gluten. The processing conditions for the preparation of gluten-fructose conjugates were optimized by using Box-Behnken model to achieve optimum foaming and emulsifying activity, respectively.The results showed that glycated gluten exhibited enhanced emulsifying activity compared to native control. The processing conditions for the preparation of gluten-fructose conjugates with optimum emulsifying activity were as follows: the temperature was 48℃, reaction time was 72 h, and maltose/gluten(W/W) ratio was 125%. Under such condition, the average emulsifying activity was 66.54%, being improved by about 2.5 times compared with that of native control. The Foaming properties of gluten also increased significantly by glycation modification. The optimum conditions of response were as below: the temperature was 48℃, reaction time was 66 h, and maltose/gluten ratio(W/W) was 110%. | 13 | The essential oil components of Cinnamomum cassia: an analysis under different thinning models of plantation Pinus massoniana显示文摘Thinning is an important activity employed in forest management. To date, studies have mainly focused on the effects of thinning on the growth of trees during the same thinning period. In this study, plantation Pinus massoniana Lamb. near maturity were thinned at varying intensities and an economically important species, Cinnamomum cassia Presl., was planted beneath the thinned canopy. The aim of the study was to explore the effects of the extent of thinning on the essential oil content and its components of C. cassia in different parts of the plant, as well as the economic feasibility of the P. massoniana–C.cassia management model. Thinning significantly reduced the oil yield in the bark and branches of C. cassia, but hardly impacted the oil yield from C. cassia leaves compared with pure C. cassia forest(CK). Among the different thinning treatments, both light(T.4) and extensive(T.1)thinning reduced the oil yield of C. cassia bark and new branches. The concentrations of the main aldehydes differed in different parts of the plant and were affected by the extent of thinning. The influence on cinnamaldehyde in the bark was minor, but was much greater in the branches and leaves. Both the oil yield and content of cinnamaldehyde showed that moderate(T.3) thinning was more favorable than other thinning models. | 17 | Spatial pattern dynamics among co-dominant populations in early secondary forests in Southwest China显示文摘The canopy of subtropical natural forests usually consists of several co-dominant populations(CDPs),which play a crucial role in forest structure,formation of the forest environment,and ecological function.However,little attention has been given to changes in spatial patterns in CDPs during natural succession.Cyclobalanopsis glauca(Thunb.)Oerst.,Quercus variabilis Blume,and Pinus yunnanensis var.tenuifolia W.C.Cheng & Y.W.Law are canopy species that form CDPs in zonal forests along the Nanpan River in southwest China.We used the g(r) function and its bivariate distribution model,g_(12)(r),which is based on distances between pairs of points,to explore the dynamics of the three CDP species with respect to distribution patterns and spatial correlations in two secondary forests(one 30-year-old forest [30-YF] and one 57-year-old forest [57-YF]).The following key results were obtained:(1) there was a clumped pattern in the 30-YF,but the intensity of aggregation varied among populations and life stages.The distribution pattern gradually shifted to become random with longer succes sion time(i.e.,30-YF vs.57-YF),expansion of the observation scale(r=0-20 m),and at later life stages.(2) Aside from the mid-sized C.glauca trees and large P.yunnanensis trees,the trees repulsed each other at certain scales(r=0-2,5-6,11-12,14-16 m) in the 30-YF.Almost all of the life stages in the CDPs were independently correlated.This independent correlation was exacerbated by a longer succession time.(3) An increase in life stages and longer succession also promoted independent changes in intraspecific correlations.(4) Intraspecific correlations were stronger than interspecific correlations.Our results showed that reducing exclusive competition is essential to coexistence in CDPs.Inter-and intra-specific repulsion may occur at the same time,but intraspecific repulsion was the main driving force behind the random distributions and independent correlations. | Yuanfa Li Minghui Li Angang Ming Hongxiang Wang Sufang Yu Shaoming Ye | 2021 | Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,4: | 3 |
| 18 | Identification of maize seed varieties based on near infrared reflectance spectroscopy and chemometrics显示文摘False seeds can often be seen in the maize seed market,leading to a serious decline in maize yield.Those existing variety identification methods are expensive,time consuming,and destructive to seeds.The aim of this study is to develop a cheap,fast and non-destructive method which can robustly identify large amounts of maize seed varieties based on near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy(NIRS)and chemometrics.Because it is difficult to establish models for every variety in the market,this study mainly investigated the performance of models based on a large number of samples(more than 40 major varieties in the market).The reflectance spectra of maize seeds were collected by two modes(bulk kernels mode and single kernel mode).Both collection modes can be applied to identification,but only the single kernel mode can be applied to purity sorting.The spectra were pretreated with smoothing,the first derivative and vector normalization;and then principal component analysis(PCA),linear discriminant analysis(LDA)and biomimetic pattern recognition(BPR)were applied to establish identification models.The environmental factors such as producing areas and years have a significant influence on the performance of the models.Therefore,the method to improve the robustness of the models was investigated in this study.New indexes(correct acceptance degree(CAD),correct rejection degree(CRD)and correct degree(CD))were defined to analyze the performance of the models more accurately.Finally,the models obtained a mean correct discrimination rate of over 90%,and exhibited robust properties for samples harvested from different areas and years.The results showed that NIR technology combined with chemometrics methods such as PCA,LDA,and BPR could be a suitable and alternative technique to identify the authenticity of maize seed varieties. | Yongjin Cui Lanjun Xu Dong An Zhe Liu Jiancheng Gu Shaoming Li Xiaodong Zhang Dehai Zhu | 2018 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,2: | 3 |

| 20 | Pomegranate-inspired porous SnSe/ZnSe@C anode:A stress-buffer nanostructure for fast and ultrastable sodium-ion storage显示文摘Tin selenide(SnSe)is considered as a potential anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)owing to its high theoretical specific capacity.Unfortunately,it suffers from drastic volume expansion/contraction during sodium ions insertion/extraction,resulting in poor cycling stability.Herein,a pomegranate-inspired porous carbon shell wrapped heterogeneous SnSe/ZnSe composite(SnSe/ZnSe@C)is exquisitely designed and fabricated through electrostatic spraying followed by high-temperature selenization.The polyacrylonitrile-derived carbon shell acts as an adhesive to link the porous cubic SnSe/ZnSe and form highly interconnected microcircuits to improve the electron/ion transfer efficiency and inhibit the bulk volume change of internal metallic selenide nanoparticles and polyselenides dissolution during repeated cycling.Moreover,the abundant heterostructure interface of SnSe/ZnSe further significantly accelerates the electrons/ions transport.As a result,the as-prepared SnSe/ZnSe@C electrode exhibits a high specific capacity(508.3 m Ah g^(-1)at 0.05 A g^(-1)),excellent rate performance(177.8 m Ah g^(-1)at 10.0 A g^(-1)),and remarkable cycling stability(195.9 m Ah g^(-1)after 10,000 cycles at 5.0 A g^(-1)).Furthermore,in-situ Xray diffraction(XRD)/Raman,ex-situ transmission electron microscopy,and kinetic analysis clearly reveal a four-step electrochemical reaction process and battery-capacitor dual-mode sodium storage mechanism.This work provides a new perspective for developing commercial SIBs anode materials with high capacity and long lifespan. | Zhixin Liang Qinghua Li Wang Zhang Dandan Yu Wei Zhang Jiawei Wu Gaoyu Wang Wenbo Fan Junling Wang Shaoming Huang | 2022 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,,12: | 2 |
