| 2 | Elevated 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine in genome of T24 bladder cancer cells induced by halobenzoquinones显示文摘Halobenzoquinones(HBQs) are an emerging class of halogenated disinfection byproducts(DBPs) in drinking water, which raised public concerns due to potential carcinogenic effects to human bladder. Our previous work demonstrated that HBQs and hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2)together generated oxidative DNA damage via a metal-independent and intercalationenhanced oxidation mechanism in vitro. This study further investigated the efficiency of various HBQs to induce oxidative DNA damage in T24 bladder cancer cells. Compared with T24 cells without treatment(3.1 lesions per 10~6 d G), the level of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine(8-oxod G) significantly increased by 1.4, 3.2, 8.8, and 9.2 times after treatment with tetrabromo-1,4-benzoquinone(TBBQ), terachloro-1,4-benzoquinone(TCBQ),2,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone(2,6-DCBQ) and 2,5-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone(2,5-DCBQ) for24 hr, respectively. | 3 | Using irrigation intervals to optimize water-use efficiency and maize yield in Xinjiang,northwest China显示文摘Worldwide, scarce water resources and substantial food demands require efficient water use and high yield.This study investigated whether irrigation frequency can be used to adjust soil moisture to increase grain yield and water use efficiency(WUE) of high-yield maize under conditions of mulching and drip irrigation.A field experiment was conducted using three irrigation intervals in 2016: 6, 9, and 12 days(labeled D6, D9, and D12) and five irrigation intervals in 2017: 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 days(D3, D6, D9, D12, and D15).In Xinjiang, an optimal irrigation quota is 540 mm for high-yield maize.The D3, D6, D9, D12, and D15 irrigation intervals gave grain yields of 19.7, 19.1–21.0, 18.8–20.0, 18.2–19.2, and 17.2 Mg ha^-1 and a WUE of 2.48, 2.53–2.80, 2.47–2.63, 2.34–2.45, and 2.08 kg m-3, respectively.Treatment D6 led to the highest soil water storage, but evapotranspiration and soil-water evaporation were lower than other treatments.These results show that irrigation interval D6 can help maintain a favorable soil-moisture environment in the upper-60-cm soil layer, reduce soilwater evaporation and evapotranspiration, and produce the highest yield and WUE.In this arid region and in other regions with similar soil and climate conditions, a similar irrigation interval would thus be beneficial for adjusting soil moisture to increase maize yield and WUE under conditions of mulching and drip irrigation. | Guoqiang Zhang Dongping Shen Bo Ming Ruizhi Xie Xiuliang Jin Chaowei Liu Peng Hou Jun Xue Jianglu Chen Wanxu Zhang Wanmao Liu Keru Wang Shaokun Li | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019,7,3: | 4 |

| 7 | AP-2α expression and cell apoptosis of the lung tissue of rats with COPD and ECV304 cells stimulated by cigarette smoke extract显示文摘An increasing body of evidence suggests that apoptosis of structural cells in the lung might be an important upstream event in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).AP-2α is one of the important transcription factors involved in the modulation of apoptosis in carcinogenesis and idiopathic-dilated cardiomyopathy.The relationship between AP-2α and apoptosis in COPD remains to be elucidated.The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of AP-2α in the lung tissues of rats with COPD induced by smoking and its possible protective effect on cigarette smoke extract (CSE) induced endothelial cell apoptosis.Sprague-Dawley rats (n=24) were randomly assigned to normal and COPD groups.The COPD group was exposed to smoke from 20 commercial unfiltered cigarettes for 80 d before morphological assessment of the lung tissue was performed.The expression of AP-2α in lung tissues was measured by Western blotting.To demonstrate the relationship between apoptosis and AP-2α,in vitro cell experiments were carried out.Cells were treated with different concentrations of CSE before proliferation was measured by MTT.Apoptosis was then determined by Hoechst staining and the expression of cleaved caspase-3 and AP-2α by Western blotting over time following treatment with 5% CSE.Cells were then infected with an AP-2α adenovirus vector and the expression of cleaved caspase-3 and AP-2α was compared to the control groups by Western blotting.The COPD group showed larger air spaces and significant decrease of FEV 0.3/FVC compared with the rats in the control group (P<0.05).The expression of AP-2α was significantly higher in the lung tissue of rats with COPD compared with those of controls (P<0.05).In the ECV304 cells,CSE induced apoptosis (P<0.01) and caspase-3 activation in a time-dependent manner and reduced the cell proliferation rate in a dose-dependent manner (P<0.005).Moreover,5% CSE treatment increased endogenous AP-2α protein expression.AP-2α overexpression inhibited 5% CSE-induced cell apoptosis and activated caspase-3 expression (P<0.05) AP-2α protects ECV304 cells against CSE-induced apoptosis and may play an important role in smoking induced-apoptosis in COPD. | LI JunLi CHEN Yan CHEN Ping CAI Shan PENG Hong ZHOU Rui XIANG XuDong LONG Hong LIU ShaoKun | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,15: | 2 |
| 8 | Projection of droughts and their socioeconomic exposures based on terrestrial water storage anomaly over China显示文摘Global warming has altered the thermodynamic and dynamic environments of the climate system, thus affecting the energy budget and water cycle process of the land-atmosphere system. Under changes in key hydrological elements such as precipitation, runoff, and terrestrial water storage, future drought variation remains a complex question. Existing studies have utilized terrestrial water storage anomaly(TWSA) in drought monitoring and assessment, but they usually focused on either drought duration or intensity, overlooking the multi-faced attributes of droughts as well as their socioeconomic impacts under a non-stationary condition. In this study, we first identify dry/wet conditions over China using GRACE/GRACE-FO satellite observations, and then evaluate the feedback effects of humidity and energy factors(e.g., sensible heat flux, latent heat flux,atmospheric relative humidity, and convective available potential energy) to drought events. Future changes in TWSA and dry/wet conditions are projected by eight Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6) global climate models(GCMs)under three shared socioeconomic pathways(SSPs), with their biases corrected by a trend-preserving quantile mapping method.The time-varying Copula function of drought duration and intensity is constructed by a moving windows method, and future bivariate drought risks are quantified with the most likely realization method. The population and GDP affected by increasing drought risks are finally quantified based on the SSPs data. It is found that the land-atmosphere coupling effects closely interact with drought evolution, and the uneven distribution of water resources is projected to be further aggravated, with most areas of China will be threatened by continuous drying tendency. By the end of the century, the duration of moderate, severe and exceptional droughts in some regions of China will double, and the drought intensity will increase by over 80%. | 14 | One-step preparation of porous aminated-silica nanoparticles and their antibacterial drug delivery applications显示文摘Porous functionalized silica nanoparticles have attracted the interest of researchers as they are excellent carriers for antibacterial drug delivery applications.In this work,porous aminated-silica nanoparticles(SiO2-NH2 NPs) were prepared via one-step approach through the ammonia-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS) and(3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane(APTES) in a mixed water-ethanol system.The obtained SiO2-NH2 NPs displayed a spherical morphology and relatively uniform size distribution,while the morphology and structure of SiO2-NH2 NPs were mainly determined by the order of the reagents added and the pH value of the solution.After characterization,the results showed that there were a large number of-NH2 groups on the surface of porous SiO2-NH2 NPs and that the porous SiO2-NH2 NPs had a large surface area of 476 m2 g-1 with an average pore width of 4.3 nm.Through an absorbing-releasing experiment and bacterial test,those SiO2-NH2 NPs were found to exhibit efficient absorption and release of drugs as well as a pH-de pendent release pattern of epirubicin-loaded SiO2-NH2 NPs.Meanwhile,SiO2-NH2@capsaicin NPs exhibited antibacterial properties.Those porous SiO2-NH2 NPs could be a candidate for drug delivery for antibacterial applications owing to their tailored porous structure and high surface area. | Yongren Wu Shun Chen Yang Liu Zhiwei Lu Shaokun Song Yang Zhang Chuanxi Xiong Lijie Dong | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,47,15: | 1 |

| 16 | First Discovery of Dicerorhinus sumatrensis from Yanjinggou Provides Insights into the Pleistocene Rhinocerotidae of South China显示文摘The Rhinocerotidae is one of the most common and important families in the Pleistocene mammalian fauna of South China.Since the last century,most of the Pleistocene rhinocerotid fossils were prematurely assigned to Rhinoceros sinensis,which has resulted in confusion of taxonomy for decades,especially in South China.The Yanjinggou area in Chongqing Municipality of China,where the neotype of R.sinensis came from,has yielded abundant rhinocerotid fossils and is a key area to solve this problem.A recently discovered juvenile skull from a karstic fissure in this area can be referred to Dicerorhinus sumatrensis(Fischer,1814),which is the first confirmed non-Rhinoceros rhinocerotid from the area.This new finding indicates that non-Rhinoceros fossils might have been mixed in AMNH collection from Yanjinggou and thus the diagnosis of Rhinoceros sinensis needs reformation.On the other hand,Stephanorhinus?kirchbergensis is also detected in Granger’s collection based on our reobservation.The coexistence of Rhinoceros,Dicerorhinus and Stephanorhinus shows the higher diversity of Pleistocene rhinocerotids in South China. | CHEN Shaokun PANG Libo YAN Yaling WEI Guangbiao YUE Zongying | 2021 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2021,95,4: | 1 |

| 18 | Effects of land-use changes on organic carbon in bulk soil and associated physical fractions in China's Horqin Sandy Grassland显示文摘The Horqin Sandy Grassland is one of the most seriously desertified areas in China's agro-pastoral ecotone due to its fragile ecology, combined with improper and unsustainable land management. We investigated organic carbon changes in bulk soil(0 to 5 cm), light fraction of soil organic matter, and soil particle-size fractions induced by land-use and cover type changes. The results indicated that total soil organic carbon(SOC) storage decreased by 121 g/m2 with the conversion of grassland into farmland for 30 years, and increased by 261 g/m2 with the conversion of grassland into plantation for 30 years. Total SOC storage decreased by 157 g/m2 as a result of severe grassland desertification due to long-term continuous livestock grazing, whereas total SOC increased by 111 g/m2 following the practice of grazing exclusion(16 years) in desertified areas. | 20 | Slippery quartz surfaces for anti‐fouling optical windows显示文摘The surface of camera‐based medical devices is easily smeared by blood and fog during the surgical procedure,causing visual field loss and bringing great distress to both doctors and patients.In this article,a slippery liquid‐infused porous surface(SLIPS)on a quartz window surface that can repel various liquids,especially blood droplets is reported.A femtosecond laser pulse train was used to create periodic microhole structures on the silica surface.The subsequent low surface energy treatment and lubricant infusion led to the successful preparation of a slippery surface.Such blood‐repellent windows exhibited high transparency,great antifogging,and antibacterial properties.In addition,the slippery ability of the as‐prepared surface exhibited outstanding stability since the surface could withstand harsh treatments/environments,such as repeated pipette scratches and immersion in different pH solutions.The as‐prepared millimeter‐sized quartz samples with SLIPS were attached to the endoscope lens as a protective coating and could maintain high visibility after repeated immersion in blood.We believe that the coating developed in this study will provide inspiration for the design of next‐generation endoscopes or other camera‐guided devices that will resist fouling,keep clear vision,and reduce operation time,thus offering great potential applications in lesion diagnosis and therapy. | Minjing Li Tongzhen Yang Qing Yang Shaokun Wang Zheng Fang Yang Cheng Xun Hou Feng Chen | 2023 | Droplet2023,2,1: | 0 |
