| 1 | Effect of Alkali Stress on Soluble Sugar, Antioxidant Enzymes and Yield of Oat显示文摘Alkali stress can cause severe crop damage and reduce production. However, physiological processes involved in alkali stress in oat seedlings are not well understood. In this study, physiological responses and yield of oat to alkali stress were studied using the alkali-tolerant oat genotype Vao-9 and the alkali-sensitive oat genotype Baiyan 5. The results were: (i) low concentrations of alkali stress (25 and 50 mmol L-1) significantly reduced the yield and grain weight while increased the oat grain number per spike. A negative correlation between yield and malondialdehyde (MDA) content at the jointing and grain filling stages and positive correlations between yield on one hand and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (POD) activities on the other at the jointing stage were observed. There was a positive correlation between MDA and soluble sugar at the grain filling stage; (ii) soluble sugar content was increased at the jointing and grain filling stages and decreased at the heading stage by alkali stress; (iii) alkali stress increased the SOD activity during the heading and grain filling stages, and increased the POD activity at the heading stage. As compared to the control, the increase of MDA contents in alkali-treated oat was observed, during the jointing, heading and grain filling stages; (iv) under alkali stress, the oat genotype Vao-9 showed higher antioxidant enzyme activity and lower soluble sugar contents during the heading stage, and lower MDA contents than those in the oat genotype Baiyan 5 under alkali stress. | 2 | Is graphite lithiophobic or lithiophilic?显示文摘Graphite and lithium metal are two classic anode materials and their composite has shown promising performance for rechargeable batteries.However,it is generally accepted that Li metal wets graphite poorly,causing its spreading and infiltration difficult.Here we show that graphite can either appear superlithiophilic or lithiophobic,depending on the local redox potential.By comparing the wetting performance of highly ordered pyrolytic graphite,porous carbon paper(PCP),lithiated PCP and graphite powder,we demonstrate that the surface contaminants that pin the contact-line motion and cause contact-angle hysteresis have their own electrochemical-stability windows.The surface contaminants can be either removed or reinforced in a time-dependent manner,depending on whether the reducing agents(C6→Li C6)or the oxidizing agents(air,moisture)dominate in the ambient environment,leading to bifurcating dynamics of either superfast or superslow wetting.Our findings enable new fabrication technology for Li–graphite composite with a controllable Li-metal/graphite ratio and present great promise for the mass production of Li-based anodes for use in high-energy-density batteries. | Jian Duan Yuheng Zheng Wei Luo Wangyan Wu Tengrui Wang Yong Xie Sa Li Ju Li Yunhui Huang | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,7: | 8 |
| 3 | Evaluation of erectile function after urethral reconstruction:a prospective study显示文摘We conducted a prospective study of erectile dysfunction(ED)after urethral reconstructive surgery,using the 5-item International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5),the Sexual Life Quality Questionnaire(SLQQ)and the Quality of Life Questionnaire(QoLQ).Between January 2003 and July 2007,125 male patients with urethral strictures underwent urethroplasty,and pre-and post-surgery erectile function was assessed using these three questionnaires.A formula to predict the probability of ED after urethroplasty was derived.At 3 months post-operatively,there was a significant decrease in IIEF-5(16.57±7.98)and SLQQ scores(28.71±14.84)compared with pre-operative scores(P<0.05).However,the IIEF-5 scores rebounded at 6 months post-operatively(17.22±8.41).Logistical regression analysis showed that the location of the urethral stricture,the recurrence of strictures and the choice of surgical technique were predictive of the post-operative occurrence of ED.This study identified the clinical risk factors for ED after urethroplasty.Posterior urethral stricture and end-to-end anastomosis were found to have a strong relationship with erectile function.The logistical model derived in this study may be applied to clinical decision algorithms for patients with urethral strictures. | Hong Xie Yue-Min Xu Xiao-Lin Xu Yin-Long Sa Deng-Long Wu Xin-Chi Zhang | 2009 | Asian Journal of Andrology2009,11,2: | 6 |

| 6 | Unexpected elastic isotropy in a black phosphorene/TiC2 van der Waals heterostructure with flexible Li-ion battery anode applications显示文摘Recently, flexible electrodes with biaxial/omnidirectional stretchability haveattracted significant attention. However, most existing pliable electrode materialscan be only stretched in one direction. In this work, an unexpected isotropic vander Waals (vdW) heterostructure is proposed, based on the assembly of two-dimensional crystals of anisotropic black phosphorene (BP) and transition metalcarbide (TIC2). Using vdW-corrected density functional theory calculations, theBPFFiC2 vdW heterostructure was predicted to have excellent structural andmechanical stability, superior electrical conductivity, omnidirectional flexibility,and a high Li storage capacity. We have unraveled the physical origin of theexcellent stability, as well as the Li adsorption preferences of the lithiatedheterostructure, based on a three-step analysis of the stability of the Li-adsorptionprocesses. In addition, the BP/TiC2 vdW heterostructure can also be applied asthe anode material for flexible Na-ion batteries because of its high Na storagecapacity and strong Na binding. However, the shear modulus of O phase manifests anisotropic, where {010} shear planes are the easiest planes to cleave among the principal planes under all pressures.The heat capacities, volume expansions and thermal expansion coefficients were calculated using the quasi-harmonic approximation model based on the phonon dispersion curves. Meanwhile, the bulk modulus, Young’s modulus,shear modulus and the hardness are promptly enhanced under pressure.
