| 1 | Screening and evaluation of reliable traits of upland cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)genotypes for salt tolerance at the seedling growth stage显示文摘Background:Salt stress significantly inhibits the growth,development,and productivity of cotton because of osmotic,ionic,and oxidative stresses.Therefore,the screening and development of salt tolerant cotton cultivars is a key issue towards sustainable agriculture.This study subjected 11 upland cotton genotypes at the seedling growth stage to five different salt concentrations and evaluated their salt tolerance and reliable traits.Results:Several morpho-physiological traits were measured after 10 days of salinity treatment and the salt tolerance performance varied significantly among the tested cotton genotypes.The optimal Na Cl concentration for the evaluation of salt tolerance was 200 mmol·L-1.Membership function value and salt tolerance index were used to identify the most consistent salt tolerance traits.Leaf relative water content and photosynthesis were identified as reliable indicators for salt tolerance at the seedling stage.All considered traits related to salt tolerance indices were significantly and positively correlated with each other except for malondialdehyde.Cluster heat map analysis based on the morpho-physiological salt tolerance-indices clearly discriminated the 11 cotton genotypes into three different salt tolerance clusters.Cluster I represented the salt-tolerant genotypes(Z9807,Z0228,and Z7526)whereas clusters II(Z0710,Z7514,Z1910,and Z7516)and III(Z0102,Z7780,Z9648,and Z9612)represented moderately salttolerant and salt-sensitive genotypes,respectively.Conclusions:A hydroponic screening system was established.Leaf relative water content and photosynthesis were identified as two reliable traits that adequately represented the salt tolerance of cotton genotypes at the seedling growth stage.Furthermore,three salt-tolerant genotypes were identified,which might be used as genetic resources for the salt-tolerance breeding of cotton. | SIKDER Ripon Kumar WANG Xiangru JIN Dingsha ZHANG Hengheng GUI Huiping DONG Qiang PANG Nianchang ZHANG Xiling SONG Meizhen | 2020 | Journal of Cotton Research2020,3,2: | 5 |

| 3 | An Improved Jellyfish Algorithm for Multilevel Thresholding of Magnetic Resonance Brain Image Segmentations显示文摘Image segmentation is vital when analyzing medical images,especially magnetic resonance(MR)images of the brain.Recently,several image segmentation techniques based on multilevel thresholding have been proposed for medical image segmentation;however,the algorithms become trapped in local minima and have low convergence speeds,particularly as the number of threshold levels increases.Consequently,in this paper,we develop a new multilevel thresholding image segmentation technique based on the jellyfish search algorithm(JSA)(an optimizer).We modify the JSA to prevent descents into local minima,and we accelerate convergence toward optimal solutions.The improvement is achieved by applying two novel strategies:Rankingbased updating and an adaptive method.Ranking-based updating is used to replace undesirable solutions with other solutions generated by a novel updating scheme that improves the qualities of the removed solutions.We develop a new adaptive strategy to exploit the ability of the JSA to find a best-so-far solution;we allow a small amount of exploration to avoid descents into local minima.The two strategies are integrated with the JSA to produce an improved JSA(IJSA)that optimally thresholds brain MR images.To compare the performances of the IJSA and JSA,seven brain MR images were segmented at threshold levels of 3,4,5,6,7,8,10,15,20,25,and 30.IJSA was compared with several other recent image segmentation algorithms,including the improved and standard marine predator algorithms,the modified salp and standard salp swarm algorithms,the equilibrium optimizer,and the standard JSA in terms of fitness,the Structured Similarity Index Metric(SSIM),the peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR),the standard deviation(SD),and the Features Similarity Index Metric(FSIM).The experimental outcomes and the Wilcoxon rank-sum test demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of the FSIM,the PSNR,the objective values,and the SD;in terms of the SSIM,IJSA was competitive with the others. | Mohamed Abdel-Basset Reda Mohamed Mohamed Abouhawwash Ripon K.Chakrabortty Michael J.Ryan Yunyoung Nam | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,9: | 2 |

| 14 | The implications of blockchain-coordinated information sharing within a supply chain: A simulation study显示文摘The profitability of a supply chain(SC)is proportional to the stability of all its stakeholders as well as their consistent information sharing with an effective and efficient communication mechanism.Various inefficiencies,such as the bullwhip effect(BWE)and product unavailability,may be caused by a lack of coordination in an SC.The importance of sharing consumer demand has been quantified by comprehensive studies under the assumption that all SC participants will access the same information.However,only a few studies have studied the effect of minimal coordination or limited visibility of information while considering their effect on the overall efficiency of an SC.This work primarily leverages blockchain technology(BCT)to create a simulation model.To do this,an SC BWE-based model is initially developed.Following that,a blockchain-based robust information sharing system is simulated.Furthermore,information sharing is challenging,and SC stakeholders may not really trust each other and hence be reluctant to share sensitive information.Considering that,this paper propose an improved proof-ofauthority(PoA)consensus algorithm that will increase trust in a decentralized SC model.Multiple experiments are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach,and the simulation results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of information sharing in a supply chain via blockchain,as well as that trust between partners tends to increase overall SC efficiency and reduce BWE. | Aaliya Sarfaraz Ripon K.Chakrabortty Daryl L.Essam | 2023 | Blockchain(Research and Applications)2023,4,1: | 1 |

| 17 | Clinical predictors of severe dengue:a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background:Severe dengue is a life-threatening complication;rapid identifcation of these cases,followed by adequate management is crucial to improve the clinical prognosis.Therefore,this study aimed to identify risk factors and predictors of severe dengue.Methods:A literature search for studies reporting risk factors of severe dengue among individuals with dengue virus infection was conducted in PubMed,Scopus and Web of Science database from inception to December 31,2020.Pooled odds ratios(ORs)for patients’demographic characteristics,co-morbidities,and warning signs were estimated using an inverse variance heterogeneity model.Results:We included 143 articles in the meta-analysis from a total of 13090 articles retrieved from the literature search.The risk factors of severe dengue were:being a child[OR=1.96;95%confdence interval(CI):1.22–3.13],secondary infection(OR=3.23;95%CI:2.28–4.57),and patients with pre-existing diabetes(OR=2.88;95%CI:1.72–4.81)and renal disease(OR=4.54;95%CI:1.55–13.31).Warning signs strongly associated with severe disease were increased haematocrit with a concurrent decrease in platelet count(OR=5.13;95%CI:1.61–16.34),abdominal pain(OR=2.00;95%CI:1.49–2.68),lethargy(OR=2.73;95%CI:1.05–7.10),vomiting(OR=1.80;95%CI:1.43–2.26),hepa‑tomegaly(OR=5.92;95%CI:3.29–10.66),ascites(OR=6.30;95%CI:3.75–10.60),pleural efusion(OR=5.72;95%CI:3.24–10.10)and melena(OR=4.05;95%CI:1.64–10.00).Conclusions:Our meta-analysis identifed children,secondary infection,diabetes and renal disease(s)as important predictors of severe dengue.Our fnding also supports the predictive ability of the WHO warning signs to iden‑tify severe dengue.These fndings are useful for clinicians to identify severe dengue for management and timely interventions. | Tsheten Tsheten Archie C.A.Clements Darren J.Gray Ripon K.Adhikary Luis Furuya‑Kanamori Kinley Wangdi | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,5: | 0 |

| 20 | Medical Feature Selection Approach Based on Generalized Normal Distribution Algorithm显示文摘This paper proposes a new pre-processing technique to separate the most effective features from those that might deteriorate the performance of the machine learning classifiers in terms of computational costs and classification accuracy because of their irrelevance,redundancy,or less information;this pre-processing process is often known as feature selection.This technique is based on adopting a new optimization algorithm known as generalized normal distribution optimization(GNDO)supported by the conversion of the normal distribution to a binary one using the arctangent transfer function to convert the continuous values into binary values.Further,a novel restarting strategy(RS)is proposed to preserve the diversity among the solutions within the population by identifying the solutions that exceed a specific distance from the best-so-far and replace them with the others created using an effective updating scheme.This strategy is integrated with GNDO to propose another binary variant having a high ability to preserve the diversity of the solutions for avoiding becoming stuck in local minima and accelerating convergence,namely improved GNDO(IGNDO).The proposed GNDO and IGNDO algorithms are extensively compared with seven state-of-the-art algorithms to verify their performance on thirteen medical instances taken from the UCI repository.IGNDO is shown to be superior in terms of fitness value and classification accuracy and competitive with the others in terms of the selected features.Since the principal goal in solving the FS problem is to find the appropriate subset of features that maximize classification accuracy,IGNDO is considered the best. | Mohamed Abdel-Basset Reda Mohamed Ripon K.Chakrabortty Michael J.Ryan Yunyoung Nam Mohamed Abouhawwash | 2021 | Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,12: | 0 |
