1Metabolic effects of obesity:A review显示文摘With the many recent advances in the biomedical world,vast changes are taking place in our growing knowledge of the physiological aspects of almost all the tissues and organs of the human body.One of the most prevalent topics of discussion is the question of obesity and its effect on the metabolic changes in the human body.The original classical role of adipose tissue as an energy storage organ has been greatly modified.We now know that it is an endocrine organ,producing adipokines like leptin,adiponectin,visfatin,resistin,apelin,etc,which modulate metabolic processes in the body.Since obesity is associated with an increase in the adipose tissue mass,these hormones may be expected to be produced in increased concentrations and may thus have a significant impact on the macronutrient metabolism.Further,these adipokines may interact with long term energy modulators like insulin.Even though the scientific community has started unravelling the mysteries of the close linkage between obesity,its hormones and their physiological effects,a lot still remains to be discovered.The present discussion makes an attempt to trace the basic modern day concepts of the role of obesity in various metabolic processes.Parul Singla Animesh Bardoloi Anuj A Parkash 2010World Journal of Diabetes2010,1,3:5

3Malnutrition and liver disease in a developing country显示文摘Malnutrition is a highly prevalent and under recognized condition in developing countries of South Asia.The presence of malnutrition causes a severe impact on patients with liver cirrhosis.The etiology of cirrhosis differs in the South Asian region compared to the West,with hepatitis B and C still being the leading causes and the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease increasing over time.Comorbid malnutrition worsens outcomes for cirrhosis patients.Urgent attention to address malnutrition is needed to improve patient outcomes.The etiology and pathophysiology of malnutrition in liver diseases is multifactorial,as reduction in liver function affects both macronutrients and micronutrients.A need for nutritional status assessment for liver disease patients exists in all parts of the world.There are many widely studied tools in use to perform a thorough nutritional assessment,of which some tools are low cost and do not require extensive training.These tools can be studied and evaluated for use in the resource limited setting of a country like Pakistan.Treatment guidelines for proper nutrition maintenance in chronic liver disease exist for all parts of the world,but the knowledge and practice of nutritional counseling in Pakistan is poor,both amongst patients and physicians.Emphasis on assessment for nutritional status at the initial visit with recording of vital signs is needed.Simultaneously,treating physicians need to be made aware of the misconceptions surrounding nutritional restrictions in cirrhosis so that patient education is done correctly based on proper scientific evidence.Asra tus Saleha Siddiqui Om Parkash Syeda Amrah Hashmi 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,30:3
4CHANGES IN CHANNEL PATTERN OF RIVER GANGA BETWEEN MUSTAFABAD AND RAJMAHAL, GANGETIC PLAINS SINCE 18TH CENTURY显示文摘Morphological analyses require quantitative description of river course by providing its equation. Such an equation is not possible as the river plan-form contains loops that cannot be described by it. To circumvent this difficulty a system of parametric equations is devised for describing the river plan-form.The system of equations was used to obtain morphological attributes like sinuosity and curvature. Using the plan-form data for the River Ganga for years 1780, 1828, 1853, 1935 and 1978 the parametric equations were setup for these years. The plan-forms were to study the changes in channel pattern,sinuosities and mode of movement of meander loops with time in the last two centuries and in the downstream direction in the Ganga River between Mustafabad and Rajmahal over about 900 km long course.Prabhata K.
