1Advances in lithium niobate photonics:development status and perspectives显示文摘Lithium niobate(LN)has experienced significant developments during past decades due to its versatile properties,especially its large electro-optic(EO)coefficient.For example,bulk LN-based modulators with high speeds and a superior linearity are widely used in typical fiber-optic communication systems.However,with everincreasing demands for signal transmission capacity,the high power and large size of bulk LN-based devices pose great challenges,especially when one of its counterparts,integrated silicon photonics,has experienced dramatic developments in recent decades.Not long ago,high-quality thin-film LN on insulator(LNOI)became commercially available,which has paved the way for integrated LN photonics and opened a hot research area of LN photonics devices.LNOI allows a large refractive index contrast,thus light can be confined within a more compact structure.Together with other properties of LN,such as nonlinear/acousto-optic/pyroelectric effects,various kinds of high-performance integrated LN devices can be demonstrated.A comprehensive summary of advances in LN photonics is provided.As LN photonics has experienced several decades of development,our review includes some of the typical bulk LN devices as well as recently developed thin film LN devices.In this way,readers may be inspired by a complete picture of the evolution of this technology.We first introduce the basic material properties of LN and several key processing technologies for fabricating photonics devices.After that,various kinds of functional devices based on different effects are summarized.Finally,we give a short summary and perspective of LN photonics.We hope this review can give readers more insight into recent advances in LN photonics and contribute to the further development of LN related research.Guanyu Chen Nanxi Li Jun Da Ng Hong-Lin Lin Yanyan Zhou Yuan Hsing Fu Lennon Yao Ting Lee Yu Yu Ai-Qun Liu Aaron J.Danner 2022Advanced Photonics2022,4,3:6
2Inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 activity in subchondral bone modifies a subtype of osteoarthritis显示文摘Osteoarthritis(OA) causes the destruction of joints. Its pathogenesis is still under investigation, and there is no effective diseasemodifying therapy. Here, we report that elevated cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) expression in the osteocytes of subchondral bone causes both spontaneous OA and rheumatoid arthritis(RA). The knockout of COX-2 in osteocytes or treatment with a COX-2 inhibitor effectively rescues the structure of subchondral bone and attenuates cartilage degeneration in spontaneous OA(STR/Ort)mice and tumor necrosis factor-α transgenic RA mice. Thus, elevated COX-2 expression in subchondral bone induces both OAassociated and RA-associated joint cartilage degeneration. 3Natural exosome-like nanovesicles from edible tea flowers suppress metastatic breast cancer via ROS generation and microbiota modulation显示文摘Although several artificial nanotherapeutics have been approved for practical treatment of metastatic breast cancer,their inefficient therapeutic outcomes,serious adverse effects,and high cost of mass production remain crucial challenges.Herein,we developed an alternative strategy to specifically trigger apoptosis of breast tumors and inhibit their lung metastasis by using natural nanovehicles from tea flowers(TFENs).These nanovehicles had desirable particle sizes(131 nm),exosome-like morphology,and negative zeta potentials.Furthermore,TFENs were found to contain large amounts of polyphenols,flavonoids,functional proteins,and lipids.Cell experiments revealed that TFENs showed strong cytotoxicities against cancer cells due to the stimulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)amplification.The increased intracellular ROS amounts could not only trigger mitochondrial damage,but also arrest cell cycle,resulting in the in vitro anti-proliferation,anti-migration,and anti-invasion activities against breast cancer cells.Further mice investigations demonstrated that TFENs after intravenous(i.v.)injection or oral administration could accumulate in breast tumors and lung metastatic sites,inhibit the growth and metastasis of breast cancer,and modulate gut microbiota.This study brings new insights to the green production of natural exosome-like nanoplatform for the inhibition of breast cancer and its lung metastasis via i.v.and oral routes.Qiubing Chen Qian Li Yuqi Liang Menghang Zu Nanxi Chen Brandon S.B.Canup Liyong Luo Chenhui Wang Liang Zeng Bo Xiao 2022Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,2:4
4Metasurface-based subtractive color filter fabricated on a 12-inch glass wafer using a CMOS platform显示文摘Optical color filters are widely applied in many areas including display,imaging,sensing,holography,energy harvest,and measurement.Traditional dye-based color filters have drawbacks such as environmental hazards and instability under high temperature and ultraviolet radiation.With advances in nanotechnology,structural color filters,which are based on the interaction of light with designed nanostructures,are able to overcome the drawbacks.Also,it is possible to fabricate structural color filters using standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS)fabrication facilities with low cost and high volume.In this work,metasurface-based subtractive color filters(SCFs)are demonstrated on 12-inch(300-mm)glass wafers using a CMOS-compatible fabrication process.In order to make the transmissive-type SCF on a transparent glass wafer,an in-house developed layer transfer process is used to solve the glass wafer handling issue in fabrication tools.Three different heights of embedded silicon nanopillars(110,170,and 230 nm)are found to support magnetic dipole resonances.With pillar height and pitch variation,SCFs with different displayed colors are achieved.Based on the resonance wavelength,the displayed color of the metasurface is verified within the red-yellow-blue color wheel.The simulation and measurement results are compared and discussed.The work provides an alternative design for high efficiency color filters on a CMOS-compatible platform,and paves the way towards mass-producible large-area metasurfaces.ZHENGJI XU NANXI LI YUAN DONG YUAN HSING FU TING HU QIZE ZHONG YANYAN ZHOU DONGDONG Li SHIYANG ZHU NAVAB SINGH 2021Photonics Research2021,9,1:3
5Optical frequency synthesizer with an integrated erbium tunable laser显示文摘Optical frequency synthesizers have widespread applications in optical spectroscopy,frequency metrology,and many other fields.However,their applicability is currently limited by size,cost,and power consumption.Silicon photonics technology,which is compatible with complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor fabrication processes,provides a low-cost,compact size,lightweight,and low-power-consumption solution.In this work,we demonstrate an optical frequency synthesizer using a fully integrated silicon-based tunable laser.The synthesizer can be self-calibrated by tuning the repetition rate of the internal mode-locked laser.A 20 nm tuning range from 1544 to 1564 nm is achieved with~10−13 frequency instability at 10 s averaging time.Its flexibility and fast reconfigurability are also demonstrated by fine tuning the synthesizer and generating arbitrary specified patterns over time-frequency coordinates.This work promotes the frequency stability of silicon-based integrated tunable lasers and paves the way toward chip-scale lowcost optical frequency synthesizers.Ming Xin Nanxi Li Neetesh Singh Alfonso Ruocco Zhan Su Emir Salih Magden Jelena Notaros Diedrik Vermeulen Erich P.Ippen Michael R.Watts Franz X.Kartner 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:2

8Experimental Investigation and Visualization Study of the Condensation Characteristics in a Propylene Loop Heat Pipe显示文摘At present,the structural design of a loop heat pipe(LHP)condenser mostly relies on experience.To analyze the condensation flow pattern in an LHP and to find a more accurate empirical correlation that can better guide condenser design in existing empirical correlations,a test system was designed and fabricated to observe the condensation phenomenon in the condenser and to evaluate the LHP’s heat transfer performance.Since propylene has a wide temperature range to different temperature control requirements,it was chosen as the working fluid.In this paper,the condensation process in the condenser was observed,and the operating parameters of a propylene LHP were measured at 283 K.The condensation flow patterns in the 2.5 mm×2.5 mm channel mainly included stratified flow,wavy flow and intermittent flow.By comparing the experimental results with four typical condensation flow regime maps,it was found that the Breber and Cavallini flow regime maps can successfully predict most of the condensation flow patterns of the LHP even with ultra-small mass flux.In addition,four condensation heat transfer coefficient correlations were selected to compare the predicted values of heat transfer coefficient with the experimental results.The study showed that the predicted values from the correlation by Cavallini et al.matched 90%of the experimental values well with an error of less than 20%,and this correlation is recommended for highly accurate LHP design.YAN Kaifenu XIE Rongjian LI Nanxi XU Guangming WU Yinong 2021Journal of Thermal Science2021,30,5:1
9Micro-and nano-fiber probes for optical sensing,imaging,and stimulation in biomedical applications显示文摘The flexibile nature of optical fiber enables it to offer remote-access capabilities,which could be used in many biomedical applications.This review focuses on different micro-and nano-structured fiber probes for applications in biosensing,imaging,and stimulations.The modifications to fiber could extend design freedom from waveguide optimization to functional material integration.Fiber probes with optimized waveguide structures or integrated functional materials could achieve enhanced optical mode interaction with biosamples,and hence obtain ultrasensitive biosensors with a remarkably low limit of detection.Furthermore,bioimaging with a high spatial resolution can be obtained by engineering dispersion and nonlinearity of light propagation in the fiber core or designing a metal-coated tapered fiber tip with a sub-wavelength aperture.Flat metasurfaces can be assembled on a fiber tip to achieve a large depth of focus and remove aberrations.Fiber is also a compact solution to realize the precise delivery of light for in vivo applications,such as deep brain stimulation.The optical beam size,shape,and direction could be steered by the probe parameters.Micro-and nano-technologies integrated with fiber contribute to various approaches to further improve detection limit,sensitivity,optical resolution,imaging depth,and stimulation precision.Xia Yu Shuyan Zhang Malini Olivo Nanxi Li 2020Photonics Research2020,8,11:1
10Octave-spanning coherent supercontinuum generation in silicon on insulator from 1.06μm to beyond 2.4μm显示文摘Efficient complementary metal-oxide semiconductor-based nonlinear optical devices in the near-infrared are in strong demand.Due to two-photon absorption in silicon,however,much nonlinear research is shifting towards unconventional photonics platforms.In this work,we demonstrate the generation of an octave-spanning coherent supercontinuum in a silicon waveguide covering the spectral region from the near-to shortwave-infrared.With input pulses of 18 pJ in energy,the generated signal spans the wavelength range from the edge of the silicon transmission window,approximately 1.06 to beyond 2.4μm,with a−20 dB bandwidth covering 1.124–2.4μm.An octave-spanning supercontinuum was also observed at the energy levels as low as 4 pJ(−35 dB bandwidth).We also measured the coherence over an octave,obtaining|g_()12^(1)(λ)>90%,in good agreement with the simulations.In addition,we demonstrate optimization of the third-order dispersion of the waveguide to strengthen the dispersive wave and discuss the advantage of having a soliton at the long wavelength edge of an octave-spanning signal for nonlinear applications.This research paves the way for applications,such as chip-scale precision spectroscopy,optical coherence tomography,optical frequency metrology,frequency synthesis and wide-band wavelength division multiplexing in the telecom window.Neetesh Singh Ming Xin Diedrik Vermeulen Katia Shtyrkova Nanxi Li Patrick T Callahan Emir Salih Magden Alfonso Ruocco Nicholas Fahrenkopf Christopher Baiocco Bill P-P Kuo Stojan Radic Erich Ippen Franz X Kärtner Michael R Watts 2017Light(Science & Applications)2017,6,1:1
11Optimization of the Swept Volume Ratio between the Compressor and the Active Displacer in an Efficient 20 K Thermal-Coupled Two-Stage Pulse Tube Cryocooler显示文摘As an important component of the stirling-type pulse tube cryocooler(SPTC),an efficient phase shifter can significantly improve the cooling capacity.Compared to the common phase shifter,the active warm displacer(AWD)has a wider phase adjustment range and therefore can obtain a better phase relationship easily.Based on a two-stage thermal-coupled SPTC operating in the 20 K range,this paper studied the influence of the swept volume ratio between the compressor and displacer.The research found that the swept volume ratio changes the cooling capacity and efficiency of the cryocooler mainly by changing the phase difference between the pressure wave and the volume flow at the cold end.It was found from the results of the simulation and experiments that there is an optimal displacement of the displacer(Xd)of 2.5 mm and an optimal phase angle of 15°to obtain the highest cooling efficiency while the displacement of the compressor is constant.The cooling capacity at 20 K is 1.3 W while the input electrical power of the second stage compressor is 202 W,which indicates an overall relative Carnot efficiency(rCOP)of 0.055 in terms of input electrical power.In addition,due to the reasonable setting of precooling temperature and capacity,the swept volume ratio and phase at the maximum cooling capacity and maximum efficiency are consistent in this study.The research improves the understanding of phase shifters and has guiding significance for the optimization of the SPTC working below 20 K.YIN Wang LIU Shaoshuai SONG Jiantang WU Wenting HUI Hejun JIANG Zhenhua LI Nanxi ZHU Haifeng WU Yinong 2023Journal of Thermal Science2023,32,6:0
12Identification of a candidate QTG for seed number per silique by integrating QTL mapping and RNA-seq in Brassica napus L.显示文摘Seed number per silique(SNPS)is one of seed yield components in rapeseed,but its genetic mechanism remains elusive.Here a double haploid(DH)population derived from a hybrid between female 6Q006with 35–40 SNPS and male 6W26 with 10–15 SNPS was investigated for SNPS in the year 2017,2018,2019 and 2021,and genotyped with Brassica 60K Illumina Infinium SNP array.An overlapping major QTL(qSNPS.C09)explaining 51.50%of phenotypic variance on average was narrowed to a 0.90 Mb region from 44.87 Mb to 45.77 Mb on chromosome C09 by BSA-seq.Subsequently,two DEGs in this interval were detected between extreme individuals in DH and F_2populations by transcriptome sequencing at7 and 14 days after pollination siliques.Of which,BnaC09g45400D encoded an adenine phosphoribosyltransferase 5(APT5)has a 48-bp InDel variation in the promoter of two parents.Candidate gene association analysis showed that this InDel variation was associated with SNPS in a nature population of rapeseed,where 54 accessions carrying the same haplotype as parent 6Q006 had higher SNPS than103 accessions carrying the same haplotype as parent 6W26.Collectively,the findings are helpful for rapeseed molecular breeding of SNPS,and provide new insight into the genetic and molecular mechanism of SNPS in rapeseed.Shuangshuang Xin Hongli Dong Yixin Cui Yilin Liu Guifu Tian Nanxi Deng Huafang Wan Zhi Liu Xiaorong Li Wei Qian 2023The Crop Journal2023,11,1:0
13B-lymphoid tyrosine kinase-mediated FAM83A phosphorylation elevates pancreatic tumorigenesis through interacting with β-catenin显示文摘Abnormal activation of Wnt/β-catenin-mediated transcription is closely associated with the malignancy of pancreatic cancer.Family with sequence similarity 83 member A(FAM83A)was shown recently to have oncogenic effects in a variety of cancer types,but the biological roles and molecular mechanisms of FAM83A in pancreatic cancer need further investigation.Here,we newly discovered that FAM83A binds directly toβ-catenin and inhibits the assembly of the cytoplasmic destruction complex thus inhibiting the subsequent phosphorylation and degradation.FAM83A is mainly phosphorylated by the SRC non-receptor kinase family member BLK(B-lymphoid tyrosine kinase)at tyrosine 138 residue within the DUF1669 domain that mediates the FAM83A-β-catenin interaction.Moreover,FAM83A tyrosine 138 phosphorylation enhances oncogenic Wnt/β-catenin-mediated transcription through promotingβ-catenin-TCF4 interaction and showed an elevated nucleus translocation,which inhibits the recruitment of histone deacetylases by TCF4.We also showed that FAM83A is a direct downstream target of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and correlates with the levels of Wnt target genes in human clinical pancreatic cancer tissues.Notably,the inhibitory peptides that target the FAM83A-β-catenin interaction significantly suppressed pancreatic cancer growth and metastasis in vitro and in vivo.Our results revealed that blocking the FAM83A cascade signaling defines a therapeutic target in human pancreatic cancer.Cefan Zhou Xiaoting Zhu Nanxi Liu Xueying Dong Xuewen Zhang Huili Huang Yu Tang Shicheng Liu Mengyu Hu Ming Wang Xiaoling Deng Shi Li Rui Zhang Yuan Huang Hao Lyu Shuai Xiao Sang Luo Declan William Ali Marek Michalak Xing-Zhen Chen Zhentian Wang Jingfeng Tang 2023Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2023,8,3:0
14Handgrip strength and the risk of major depressive disorder:a two-sample Mendelian randomisation study显示文摘Background Major depressive disorder(MDD)is a common psychiatric disease and a leading cause of disability worldwide.Handgrip strength(HGS)as an objective physical fitness test is a practical index for identifying many diseases.Previous studies drew different conclusions about the relationship between HGS and MDD.Aims We aim to explore whether HGS has an effect on the risk of MDD.Methods HGS-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms identified by a genome-wide association study were used as instrumental variables in this Mendelian randomisation(MR)study.Summary data on MDD were obtained from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium.Four methods were applied,including inverse variance weighted(IVW),MR Egger,weighted median and weighted mode.Additional sensitivity analyses,including leave-one-out,heterogeneity test,pleiotropy test and confounders identification,were conducted to test the robustness of our results.Results Each 1 kg increase in left HGS is associated with a 21.95%reduction in the risk of MDD(OR_(IVW)=0.781,95%CI:0.650 to 0.937,p=0.009),while no significant correlation exists in the estimation of right HGS(p=0.146).Sensitivity analyses demonstrated statistical significance(β_(IVW)=−0.195,p=0.023)after excluding some genetic loci that cause pleiotropy.Conclusions Increased left HGS is associated with a reduced risk of MDD.In the future,it may be used as an index for the clinical screening,observation and treatment of MDD.Nanxi Li Rui Zhou Bin Zhang 2022General Psychiatry2022,35,5:0

16Lithofacies and pore features of marine-continental transitional shale and gas enrichment conditions of favorable lithofacies:A case study of Permian Longtan Formation in the Lintanchang area,southeast of Sichuan Basin,SW China显示文摘In this work,the Permian Longtan marine-continental transitional shale in the southeast of Sichuan Basin was taken as study object.Through petrology and geochemical analysis,lithofacies types of the marine-continental transitional shale were classified,key controlling factors of physical properties and gas content of the different shale lithofacies were analyzed.The research results show that the Longtan Formation marine-continental transitional shale in the study area has four types of lithofacies,namely,organic-lean calcareous shale,organic-lean mixed shale,organic-lean argillaceous shale,and organic-rich argillaceous shale,among which the organic-rich argillaceous shale is the most favorable lithofacies of the study area.The pore types of different lithofacies vary significantly and the clay mineral-related pore is the dominant type of the pore system in the study area.The main controlling factor of the physical properties is clay mineral content,and the most important factor affecting gas content is TOC content.Compared with marine shale,the marine-continental transitional shale has low average values,wide distribution range,and strong heterogeneity in TOC content,porosity,and pore structure parameters,but still contains some favorable layers with high physical properties and gas contents.The organic-rich clay shale deposited in tidal flat-lagoon system is most likely to form shale gas sweet spots,so it should be paid more attention in shale gas exploration.WANG Enze GUO Tonglou LIU Bo LI Maowen XIONG Liang DONG Xiaoxia ZHANG Nanxi WANG Tong 2022Petroleum Exploration and Development2022,49,6:0
