1A nomogramfor predicting overall survival in patients with low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma: A population-based analysis显示文摘Background:Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma(LG-ESS)is a rare tumor that lacks a prognostic prediction model.Our study aimed to develop a nomogram to predict overall survival of LG-ESS patients.Methods:A total of 1172 patients confirmed to have LG-ESS between 1988 and 2015 were selected from the Surveillance,Epidemiology and End Results(SEER)database.They were further divided into a training cohort and a validation cohort.The Akaike information criterion was used to select variables for the nomogram.The discrimination and calibration of the nomogram were evaluated using concordance index(C-index),area under time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve(time-dependent AUC),and calibration plots.The net benefits of the nomogram at different threshold probabilities were quantified and compared with those of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics(FIGO)criteria-based tumor staging using decision curve analysis(DCA).Net reclassification index(NRI)and integrated discrimination improvement(IDI)were also used to compare the nomogram’s clinical utilitywith that of the FIGO criteria-based tumor staging.The risk stratifications of the nomogram and the FIGO criteria-based tumor staging were compared.Results:Seven variables were selected to establish the nomogram for LG-ESS.The C-index(0.814 for the training cohort and 0.837 for the validation cohort)and the time-dependent AUC(>0.7)indicated satisfactory discriminative ability of the nomogram.The calibration plots showed favorable consistency between the prediction of the nomogram and actual observations in both the training and validation cohorts.The NRI values(training cohort:0.271 for 5-year and 0.433 for 10-year OS prediction;validation cohort:0.310 for 5-year and 0.383 for 10-year OS prediction)and IDI(training cohort:0.146 for 5-year and 0.185 for 10-year OS prediction;validation cohort:0.177 for 5-year and 0.191 for 10-year OS prediction)indicated that the established nomogram performed significantly better than the FIGO criteria-based tumor staging alone(P<0.05).Furthermore,DCA showed that the nomogram was clinically useful and had better discriminative ability to recognize patients at high risk than the FIGO criteria-based tumor staging.Conclusions:A prognostic nomogram was developed and validated to assist clinicians in evaluating prognosis of LG-ESS patients.Jie Wu Huibo Zhang Lan Li Mengxue Hu Liang Chen Bin Xu Qibin Song 2020Cancer Communications2020,40,7:35
2Risk analysis for the highly pathogenic avian influenza in China's Mainland using meta-modeling显示文摘A logistic model was employed to correlate the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) with related environmental factors and the migration of birds. Based on MODIS data of the normalized difference vegetation index, environmental factors were considered in generating a probability map with the aid of logistic regression. A Bayesian maximum entropy model was employed to explore the spatial and temporal correlations of HPAI incidence. The results show that proximity to water bodies and national highways was statistically relevant to the occurrence of HPAI. Migratory birds, mainly waterfowl, were important infection sources in HPAI transmission. In addition, the HPAI outbreaks had high spatiotemporal autocorrelation. This epidemic spatial range fluctuated 45 km owing to different distribution patterns of cities and water bodies. Furthermore, two outbreaks were likely to occur with a period of 22 d. 3The novel H1N1 Influenza A global airline transmission and early warning without travel containments显示文摘A novel influenza A (H1N1) has been spreading worldwide. Early studies implied that international air travels might be key cause of a severe potential pandemic without appropriate containments. In this study, early outbreaks in Mexico and some cities of United States were used to estimate the preliminary epidemic parameters by applying adjusted SEIR epidemiological model, indicating transmissibility infectivity of the virus. According to the findings, a new spatial allocation model totally based on the real-time airline data was established to assess the potential spreading of H1N1 from Mexico to the world. Our estimates find the basic reproductive number R0 of H1N1 is around 3.4, and the effective reproductive number fall sharply by effective containment strategies. 6Wang-Bi tablet, a patented Chinese medicine, maintains the balance of Th1/Th2 in mice with collagen-induced arthritis显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the pharmacological mechanism of Wang-Bi tablets(WBTs), a Chinese patented medicine, in rheumatoid arthritis(RA) using mice with collagen-induced arthritis(CIA).METHODS: A mouse model of CIA was induced using bovine type Ⅱ collagen. WBT treatment was administered and efficacy was evaluated. The levels of interferon-γ(IFN-γ), interleukin-2(IL-2), and interleukin-4(IL-4) were examined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the proportions of Th1 and Th2 were detected using flow cytometry. T-bet and GATA-binding protein 3(GATA3)expression were demonstrated using Western blot analysis.RESULTS: Paw swelling and the arthritis index decreased significantly following WBT treatment. Histopathological analysis revealed markedly alleviated damage to synovium tissue in the WBT and methotrexate treatment groups. WBT regulated the production of IFN-γ, IL-2, and IL-4 and modulated Th1 and Th2 cell populations, which might have been induced by the attenuation of Th1 and Th2 cell differentiation through a decrease in the expression of T-bet and an increase in the expression of GATA3 in the synovial tissue in CIA mice.CONCLUSION: These results indicate that WBT may produce a therapeutic effect on CIA through maintaining the balance of Th1/Th2 cells, which could result in a decrease in the autoinflammatory disorder observed in RA.Wang Jianming Luo Jing Xu Yuan Yan Zeran Qu Xiangke Chen Mengxue Tao Qingwen 2020Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2020,40,3:5
7Remote-mode microsphere nano-imaging:new boundaries for optical microscopes显示文摘Optical microscope is one of the most popular characterization techniques for general purposes in many fields. It is distinguishedfrom the vacuum or tip-based imaging techniques for its flexibility, low cost, and fast speed. However, its resolutionlimits the functionality of current optical imaging performance. While microspheres have been demonstrated forimproving the observation power of optical microscope, they are directly deposited on the sample surface and thus theapplications are greatly limited. We develop a remote-mode microsphere nano-imaging platform which can scan freelyand in real-time across the sample surfaces. It greatly increases the observation power and successfully characterizesvarious practical samples with the smallest feature size down to 23 nm. 8Symptom network topological features predict the effectiveness of herbal treatment for pediatric cough显示文摘Pediatric cough is a heterogeneous condition in terms of symptoms and the underlying disease mechanisms.Symptom phenotypes hold complicated interactions between each other to form an intricate network structure.This study aims to investigate whether the network structure of pediatric cough symptoms is associated with the prognosis and outcome of patients.A total of 384 cases were derived from the electronic medical records of a highly experienced traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) physician.The data were divided into two groups according to the therapeutic effect,namely,an invalid group (group A with 40 cases of poor efficacy) and a valid group (group B with 344 cases of good efficacy).Several well-established analysis methods,namely,statistical test,correlation analysis,and complex network analysis,were used to analyze the data.This study reports that symptom networks of patients with pediatric cough are related to the effectiveness of treatment: a dense network of symptoms is associated with great difficulty in treatment.Interventions with the most different symptoms in the symptom network may have improved therapeutic effects.Mengxue Huang Jingjing Wang Runshun Zhang Zhuying Ni Xiaoying Liu Wenwen Liu Weilian Kong Yao Chen Tiantian Huang Guihua Li Dan Wei Jianzhong Liu Xuezhong Zhou 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,3:4
9Changes in the death probability of China’s elderly population and rethinking the definition of old age显示文摘A study of the age-specific death probability of China’s elderly population from 1982 to 2010 shows that,during the past 30 years,the death probability of China’s elderly population has decreased over time.This indicates that the health status of and meaning of age for the elderly population has been changing.At the same time,changes in economic,social and environmental factors and the development of science and technology have not only greatly changed the lifestyles and work situation of the elderly population,but also provided them with more opportunities to participate in economic and social activities,thus making today’s elderly people“healthier”and“younger”than those of previous generations.In conclusion,the findings of this paper suggest that it is necessary to rethink the traditional definition of elderly population.In addition,changes in the death probability of the elderly population of China also show significant gender and regional differences domestically,and there are gaps in the death probability of the elderly in China versus in developed countries,indicating that China still has a long way to go to complete a fundamental transformation of death patterns.A full understanding of such changes and differences will allow us to redefine old age and develop a new understanding of the aging society.Such an understanding can also help us to reconstruct the public policy system to meet the needs of a future society in which aging is the normal state of affairs.Min Lu Xizhe Peng Mengxue Chen 2019China Population and Development Studies2019,2,1:2
10Transcriptional regulation of fleshy fruit texture显示文摘Fleshy fruit texture is a critically important quality characteristic of ripe fruit.Softening is an irreversible process which operates in most fleshy fruits during ripening which,together with changes in color and taste,contributes to improvements in mouthfeel and general attractiveness.Softening results mainly from the expression of genes encoding enzymes responsible for cell wall modifications but starch degradation and high levels of flavonoids can also contribute to texture change.Some fleshy fruit undergo lignification during development and post-harvest,which negatively affects eating quality.Excessive softening can also lead to physical damage and infection,particularly during transport and storage which causes severe supply chain losses.Many transcription factors(TFs)that regulate fruit texture by controlling the expression of genes involved in cell wall and starch metabolism have been characterized.Some TFs directly regulate cell wall targets,while others act as part of a broader regulatory program governing several aspects of the ripening process.In this review,we focus on advances in our understanding of the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms governing fruit textural change during fruit development,ripening and postharvest.Potential targets for breeding and future research directions for the control of texture and quality improvement are discussed.Yanna Shi Bai-Jun Li Guanqing Su Mengxue Zhang Donald Grierson Kun-Song Chen 2022Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,9:2
11Regulating the morphology of fluorinated non-fullerene acceptor and polymer donor via binary solvent mixture for high efficiency polymer solar cells显示文摘Fluorinated non-fullerene acceptors(NFAs) usually have planar backbone and a higher tendency to crystallize compared to their non-fluorinated counterparts, which leads to enhanced charge mobility in organic solar cells(OSCs). However, this selforganization behavior may result in excessive phase separation with electron donors and thereby deteriorate device efficiency.Herein, we demonstrate an effective approach to tune the molecular organization of a fluorinated NFA(INPIC-4 F), and its phase separation with the donor PBDB-T, by varying the casting solvent. A prolonged film drying time encourages the crystallization of INPIC-4 F into spherulites and consequently results in excessive phase separation, leading to a low device power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 8.1%. Contrarily, a drying time leads to fine mixed domains with inefficient charge transport properties,resulting in a moderate device PCE of 11.4%. An intermediate film drying time results in the formation of face-on π-π stacked PBDB-T and INPIC-4 F domains with continuous phase-separated networks, which facilitates light absorption, exciton dissociation as well as balanced charge transport towards the electrode, and achieves a remarkable PCE of 13.1%. 12Synthetic poly-dioxolane as universal solid electrolyte interphase for stable lithium metal anodes显示文摘Lithium (Li) metal is a promising anode for the next generation high-energy–density batteries. However, the growth of Li dendrites, low coulombic efficiency and dramatic volume change limit its development. Here, we report a new synthetic poly-dioxolane (PDOL) approach to constructing an artificial 'elastic' SEI to stabilize the Li/electrolyte interface and the Li deposition/dissolution behavior in a variety of electrolytes. By coating PDOL with optimized molecular weights and synthetic routes on Li metal anode, the 'elastic' SEI layer could be maintained on top of the Li metal anode to accommodate the Li deposition/dissolution. No dendrite formation was observed during the cycling process, and the interfacial side reactions were reduced significantly. Consequently, we successfully achieved 330 cycles with a CE of 98.4% in ether electrolytes and 90 cycles with a CE of 94.3% in carbonate electrolytes. Simultaneously, the Li-metal batteries with LiFePO_(4) as cathodes also exhibited improved cycling performance. 16Optical properties of Zn-diffused InP layers for the planar-type InGaAs/InP photodetectors显示文摘Zn diffusion into InP was carried out ex-situ using a new Zn diffusion technique with zinc phosphorus particles placed around InP materials as zinc source in a semi-closed chamber formed by a modified diffusion furnace.The optical characteristics of the Zn-diffused InP layer for the planar-type InGaAs/InP PIN photodetectors grown by molecular beam epitaxy(MBE) has been investigated by photoluminescence(PL) measurements. The temperature-dependent PL spectrum of Zn-diffused InP samples at different diffusion temperatures showed that band-to-acceptor transition dominates the PL emission, which indicates that Zn was commendably diffused into InP layer as the acceptor. High quality Zn-diffused InP layer with typically smooth surface was obtained at 580 °C for 10 min. Furthermore, more interstitial Zn atoms were activated to act as acceptors after a rapid annealing process.Based on the above Zn-diffusion technique, a 50 μm planar-type InGaAs/InP PIN photodector device was fabricated and exhibited a low dark current of 7.73 pA under a reverse bias potential of.5 V and a high breakdown voltage of larger than 41 V(I < 10 μA). 17Impact Resistance of a Novel Expanded Polystyrene Cement-based Material显示文摘The mechanical property of a novel expanded polystyrene cement-based material(EPS-C), which was prepared by compressing semi-dry materials molding, was investigated. The compressive behavior was analyzed by compression tests to gain the energy absorbed during failure. Performance for impact resistance was tested by a self-made device. The results figures out that the EPS-C has good toughness and can reach strain of 0.7 without failure. The stress-strain curve is quite different from that of normal EPS concrete. It can be divided into three stages and in the third stage the compressing exhibits the highest energy absorption. With the rising of cement ratio, the impact force absorption(IFA) decreases first and then increases. The impact energy absorption(IEA) increases first and then decreases. 19Haem Oxygenase 1 is a potential target for creating etiolated/albino tea plants (Camellia sinensis) with high theanine accumulation显示文摘Theanine content is highly correlated with sensory quality and health benefits of tea infusion.The tender shoots of etiolated and albino tea plants contain higher theanine than the normal green tea plants and are valuable materials for high quality green tea processing.However,why these etiolated or albino tea plants can highly accumulate theanine is largely unknown.In this study,we observed an Arabidopsis etiolated mutant hy1–100(mutation in Haem Oxygenase 1,HO1)that accumulated higher levels of glutamine(an analog of theanine).We therefore identified CsHO1 in tea plants and found CsHO1 is conserved in amino acid sequences and subcellular localization with its homologs in other plants.Importantly,CsHO1 expression in the new shoots was much lower in an etiolated tea plants‘Huangkui’and an albino tea plant‘Huangshan Baicha’than that in normal green tea plants.The expression levels of CsHO1 were negatively correlated with theanine contents in these green,etiolated and albino shoots.Moreover,CsHO1 expression levels in various organs and different time points were also negatively correlated with theanine accumulation.The hy1–100 was hypersensitive to high levels of theanine and accumulated more theanine under theanine feeding,and these phenotypes were rescued by the expression of CsHO1 in this mutant.Transient knockdown CsHO1 expression in the new shoots of tea plant using antisense oligonucleotides(asODN)increased theanine accumulation.Collectively,these results demonstrated CsHO1 negatively regulates theanine accumulation in tea plants,and that low expression CsHO1 likely contributes to the theanine accumulation in etiolated/albino tea plants.Ziping Chen Shijia Lin Tingting Chen Mengxue Han Tianyuan Yang Yan Wang Shilai Bao Zhougao Shen Xiaochun Wan Zhaoliang Zhang 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,2:0
20Chromosome-scale genome assembly of Cucumis hystrix-a wild species interspecifically cross-compatible with cultivated cucumber显示文摘Cucumis hystrix Chakr.(2n=2x=24)is a wild species that can hybridize with cultivated cucumber(C.sativus L.,2n=2x=14),a globally important vegetable crop.However,cucumber breeding is hindered by its narrow genetic base.Therefore,introgression from C.hystrix has been anticipated to bring a breakthrough in cucumber improvement.Here,we report the chromosome-scale assembly of C.hystrix genome(289 Mb).Scaffold N50 reached 14.1 Mb.Over 90%of the sequences were anchored onto 12 chromosomes.A total of 23,864 genes were annotated using a hybrid method.Further,we conducted a comprehensive comparative genomic analysis of cucumber,C.hystrix,and melon(C.melo L.,2n=2x=24).Whole-genome comparisons revealed that C.hystrix is phylogenetically closer to cucumber than to melon,providing a molecular basis for the success of its hybridization with cucumber.Moreover,expanded gene families of C.hystrix were significantly enriched in“defense response,”and C.hystrix harbored 104 nucleotide-binding site-encoding disease resistance gene analogs.Furthermore,121 genes were positively selected,and 12(9.9%)of these were involved in responses to biotic stimuli,which might explain the high disease resistance of C.hystrix.The alignment of whole C.hystrix genome with cucumber genome and self-alignment revealed 45,417 chromosome-specific sequences evenly distributed on C.hystrix chromosomes.Finally,we developed four cucumber-C.hystrix alien addition lines and identified the exact introgressed chromosome using molecular and cytological methods.The assembled C.hystrix genome can serve as a valuable resource for studies on Cucumis evolution and interspecific introgression breeding of cucumber.Xiaodong Qin Zhonghua Zhang Qunfeng Lou Lei Xia Ji Li Mengxue Li Junguo Zhou Xiaokun Zhao Yuanchao Xu Qing Li Shuqiong Yang Xiaqing Yu Chunyan Cheng Sanwen Huang Jinfeng Chen 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:0
