1Effect of Welding Processes and Consumables on Tensile and Impact Properties of High Strength Quenched and Tempered Steel Joints显示文摘Quenched and tempered steels are prone to hydrogen induced cracking in the heat affected zone after welding. The use of austenitic stainless steel consumables to weld the above steel was the only available remedy because of higher solubility for hydrogen in austenitic phase. In this investigation,an attempt was made to determine a suitable consumable to replace expensive austenitic consumables. Two different consumables, namely, austenitic stainless steel and low hydrogen ferritic steel, were used to fabricate the joints by shielded metal arc welding(SMAW)and flux cored arc welding(FCAW)processes. The joints fabricated by using low hydrogen ferritic steel consumables showed superior transverse tensile properties, whereas joints fabricated by using austenitic stainless steel consumables exhibited better impact toughness, irrespective of the welding process used. The SMAW joints exhibited superior mechanical and impact properties, irrespective of the consumables used, than their FCAW counterparts.G Magudeeswaran V Balasubramanian G Madhusudhan Reddy T S Balasubramanian 2008Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2008,15,6:16
2Factors predicting adverse short-term outcomes in patients with acute cholangitis undergoing ERCP: A single center experience显示文摘AIM: To identify potential factors that can predict adverse short-term outcomes in patients with acute cholangitis undergoing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP). METHODS: Retrospective analysis of consecutive patients admitted to our center for acute cholangitis and underwent ERCP from 2001 to 2012. Involvement of two or more organ systems was termed as organ failure(OF). Cardiovascular failure was defined based on a systolic blood pressure of < 90 mmHg despite fluid replacement and/or requiring vasopressor treatment; respiratory failure if the Pa02 /Fi02 ratio was < 300 mmHg and/or required mechanical ventilation; coagulopathy if the platelet count was < 80; and renal insufficiency if serum creatinine was > 1.9 mg/dL. Variables associated with short term adverse clinical outcomes defined as persistent OF and/or 30-d mortality was determined. RESULTS: A total of 172 patients(median age 62 years, 56.4% female) were included. The median door to ERCP time was 17 h. Bile duct stones were the most common etiology(n = 67, 39.2%). In multivariate analysis, factors that were independently associated with persistent OF and/or 30-d mortality included American Society of Anesthesiology(ASA) physical classification score > 3(OR = 7.70; 95%CI: 2.73-24.40), presence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome(OR = 3.67; 95%CI: 1.34-10.3) and door to ERCP time greater than 72 h(OR = 3.36; 95%CI: 1.12-10.20). Door to ERCP time greater than 72 h was also associated with 70% increase in the mean length of stay(P < 0.001). Every one point increase in the ASA physical classification and every 1 mg/dL increase in the preERCP bilirubin level was associated with a 34% and 2% increase in the mean length of hospital stay, respectively. Transfer status did not impact clinical outcomes. CONCLUSION: Higher ASA physical classification and delays in ERCP are associated with adverse clinical outcomes and prolonged length of hospital stay in patients with acute cholangitis undergoing ERCP.Udayakumar Navaneethan Norma G Gutierrez Ramprasad Jegadeesan Preethi GK Venkatesh Madhusudhan R Sanaka John J Vargo Mansour A Parsi 2014World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2014,6,3:7
3Influence of Rotational Speed on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Dissimilar Metal AISI 304-AISI 4140 Continuous Drive Friction Welds显示文摘Fundamental investigation of continuous drive friction welding of austenitic stainless steel (AISI 304) and low alloy steel (AISI 4140) is described. The emphasis is made on the influence of rotational speed on the microstructure and mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, notch tensile strength and impact toughness of the dissimilar joints. Hardness profiles across the weld show the interface is harder than the respective parent metals. In general, maximum peak hardness is observed on the stainless steel side, while other peak hardness is on the low alloy steel side. A trough in hardness distribution in between the peaks is located on the low alloy steel side. Peak hardness on the stainless steel and low alloy steel side close to the interface increases with a decrease in rotational speed. All transverse tensile joints fractured on stainless steel side near the interface. Notch tensile strength and impact toughness increase with increase in rotational speed up to 1 500 r/min and decrease thereafter. The mechanism of influence of rotational speed for the observed trends is discussed in the torque, displacement characteristics, heat generation, microstructure, fractography and mechanical properties.G Subhash Chander G Madhusudhan Reddy A Venugopal Rao 2012Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2012,19,10:2
4Dynamic Fracture Toughness of Armour Grade Quenched and Tempered Steel Joints Fabricated Using Low Hydrogen Ferritic Fillers显示文摘The armour grade quenched and tempered steel joints fabricated using low hydrogen ferritic steel (LHF) filler exhibited superior joint efficiency owing to preferential ferrite microstructure in the welds and also they offered required resistance to HIC. However, the combat vehicles used in military operations will be required to operate under a wide range of road conditions ranging from first class to cross country. Structural components in combat vehicles are subjected to dynamic loading with high strain rates during operation. Stress loadings within the vehicle hull of these vehicles are expected to fluctuate considerably and structural cracking especially in welds during the service life of these vehicles can lead to catastrophic failures. Under these conditions, fracture behaviour of high strain rate sensitive structural steels can be better understood by dynamic fracture toughness (K1d). Hence, an attempt was made to study dynamic fracture toughness of the armour grade quenched and tempered steel and their welds fabricated using LHF consumables. The experimental results indicate that the K1d values of the joints fabricated by shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) are higher than those of the joints fabricated using flux cored arc welding (FCAW) process.G Magudeeswaran V Balasubramanian S Sathyanarayanan G Madhusudhan Reddy A Moitra S Venugopal G Sasikala 2010Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2010,17,5:2
