| 1 | Assessing site-safeguard effectiveness and habitat preferences of Bar-headed Geese (Anser indicus) at their stopover sites within the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau using GPS/ GSM telemetry显示文摘Background:The Bar-headed Goose(Anser indicus)breeds across the high plains and plateau of Central Asia and winters in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP),the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the Indian sub-continent.Of the two recognized discrete flyways of the Bar-headed Goose,the Eastern Tibetan Flyway(ETF)is the larger,comprising at least six migration routes.However,we remain ignorant about their migratory connectivity,habitat use and effectiveness of site-safeguard mechanisms set in place for the species.Methods:We tracked 30 ETF Bar-headed Geese from Chinese and Mongolian breeding areas to their wintering grounds using GPS/GSM transmitters,to determine their migration routes and stopover staging patterns within the QTP,overlaying these upon GIS layers of protected area status and habitat type,to model their habitat selection.Results:In total,14 tagged Bar-headed Geese provided information on their entire autumn migration and 4 geese on their entire spring migration.Qinghai Lake marked birds overwintered in the QTP(n=2),geese tagged in Mongolia wintered either in the QTP(n=3)or in India/Bangladesh(n=9),representing three of the migration routes within the ETF.In total,tagged birds staged at 79 different stopover sites within QTP in autumn and 23 in spring,of which 65%(autumn)and 59%(spring)of all fixes fell within the boundaries of either National Nature Reserves(NNRs)or Important Birds Areas(IBAs)in the QTP.Bar-headed Geese predominantly occurred on four land-cover types:grassland(mostly by day),water bodies(at night),wetlands and bare substrates(salt flats,dry lake/river substrates and plough)with little change in proportion.Generalized linear mixed models comparing presence with pseudo-absence data suggested geese strongly selected for wetlands as staging habitat,avoiding bare substrates in spring.Conclusions:Based on our limited observations of these tagged geese,this study is the first to show that the current designated National Nature Reserves in place in the staging areas within the QTP appear adequate to protect this increasing population.In addition,Hala Lake in Qinghai Province and adjacent areas used as initial QTP staging during autumn migration(currently outside of designated as NNRs/IBAs)are recommended for protection,based on their use by tagged birds from this study.Habitat modelling confirmed the importance of natural wetlands as feeding areas and safe areas of open water as roosting places. | Junjian Zhang Yanbo Xie Laixing Li Nyambayar Batbayar Xueqin Deng Iderbat Damba Fanjuan Meng Lei Cao Anthony David Fox | 2020 | Avian Research2020,11,4: | 5 |

| 4 | Maternal lysozyme concentrations in the eggs of the Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) in relation to breeding density and laying order显示文摘Background: Females can differentially deposit the immune factor lysozyme into eggs based on conditions of local breeding density and laying order.Materials: We collected 80 eggs from Great Cormorants(Phalacrocorax carbo) and then analyzed whether the level of lysozymes in the eggs is related to breeding density and laying order.Results: Between clutches,the level of lysozyme in eggs is positively related to breeding density; while within a clutch,the level of lysozyme is positively related to the laying order.Conclusion: When parents breed under conditions of high density,they allocate more lysozymes to their offspring,a trait adaptive to the local environment.That the increase in the level of lysozymes is a function of the laying order seems a necessary condition to mitigate the hierarchy among siblings for improving the survival of the entire clutch. | Jian Cao Jirong Li Wen Wang Fang Yang Zhuo Li Laixing Li | 2015 | Chinese Birds2015,,4: | 0 |
| 5 | Avian influenza virus ecology in wild birds of Western Siberia显示文摘Background:The aim of the study was to explore the ecological diversity of wild birds in Siberia, which are the natural reservoir of avian influenza virus(AIV).Methods:Cloacal swabs and intestinal fragments were collected from wild migratory birds from 2007-2014. Isolated viruses were grown in the allantoic cavity of embryonated chicken eggs. The presence of virus was determined using hemagglutination assays. Primary identification and subtyping of influenza viruses was confirmed by RT-PCR.Results:A total of 2300 samples obtained from wild migratory birds of 8 orders were collected and tested. Influenza was detected in 185 birds of 3 orders. Species of family Anatidae(order Anseriformes) such as European Teal(Anas crecca), Garganey Teal(A. querquedula), and Shoveler(A. clypeata) play the main role in AIV circulation in the south of Western Siberia. The proportion of viral carriers among waterfowl ranged from 5.6 to 20% in 2007-2014. The order Charadriiformes had lower virus isolation rates of not more than 1.4%.Conclusions:Wild migratory waterfowl of orders Anseriformes and Charadriiformes are the main reservoir of AIV in the south of Western Siberia. | 6 | Correlation study of relative parameters of intracranial pressure and prognosis of patient with craniocerebral injury显示文摘Objective:To analyze the correlation of the relative parameters of intracranial pressure to the prognosis in patients with craniocerebral injury.Methods:The clinical data of 80 patients with closed craniocerebral injury were retrospectively analyzed,and all of these patients underwent conventional examinations of arterial blood pressure and intracranial pressure.Neumatic DCR system was used to monitor relative parameters of intracranial pressure from patients.According to the score of Glasgow outcome scale(GOS)upon discharge,they were divided into favorable prognosis group(GOSⅢ-Ⅴ,n=46)and unfavorable prognosis group(GOSⅠ-Ⅱ,n=34).The relative parameters of intracranial pressure of two groups were compared so as to analyze the correlation of the prognosis in patients to ICP-related parameters.Results:Pressure reactivity index(PRx)and intracranial pressure(ICP)of favorable prognosis group were significantly higher than those of unfavorable prognosis group(t=12.27,t=5.22,p<0.05).Meanwhile,cerebral perfusion pressure(CPP)and ICP-ABP wave amplitude correlation(IAAC)of favorable prognosis group were significantly lower than those of unfavorable prognosis group(t=14.54,t=14.78,p<0.05).The average age,gender,duration of admission to neurosurgical intensive care unit(NICU)and GCS(Glasgow coma scale)score on admission of the two groups were not statistically significant.Conclusions:The prognosis and ICP-related parameters(such as PRx,ICP,CPP,etc.)in patients with craniocerebral injury are risk factors for the prognosis effect.Therefore,to monitor the above-mentioned indicators has an important clinical value for assessing the prognosis of craniocerebral injury. | Laixing Liu Yixin Deng Fuquan Liu Lei Chen Dexi Li Xiangyi Wang | 2019 | Discussion of Clinical Cases2019,6,4: | 0 |
| 7 | Experimentation of acute injured spinal cord by transplanting the bone marrow stromal cells显示文摘Objective:In this study,bone marrow stromal cells(BMSCs)were transplanted in situ after spinal cord injury(SCI)in rats.It was proved that the implanted BMSCs could differentiate into neuron-like cells in the injured spinal cord,and the long-term motor ability test was carried out to investigate the recovery of neurological dysfunction after transplantation.Methods:(1)An improved Alien’s SCI rat model(weight 10 g,height 30 mm)was made by Alien weight drop method.Methyl eosin(Haematoxyli-n/eosin,HE)was used to identify with SCI.(2)The BMSCs were identified by the method of bone marrow adherent culture in vitro.The morphology of the cells was observed by cell staining,and CD44 was detected by BMSCs.After three cultures,the cells were transfected with lentiviral vectors carrying Green Fluorescent Protein(GFP)gene.(3)Cell survival after passage and transplantation:the GFP labeled BMSCs in situ(injury zone)were implanted into the injury model.The spinal cord sections were sacrificed after 2 weeks(2w),4 weeks(4w)and 6 weeks(6w)respectively,and the cells expressing GFP were observed under immunofluorescence microscope.(4)The modified Rivlin oblique plate test and spinal motor function blood brain barrir(BBB)score method were used to compare the changes of exercise ability in the simple injury group,2w after transplantation group,4w after transplantation group and 6w after transplantation group.Results:(1)The Alien’s SCI rat model was made by using Alien’s heavy drop method,and the effect was reliable and stable.(2)The proliferation of BMSCs after 3 passages has stabilized.After culture and amplification in vitro,the cell morphology changed to be conical,protruding interwoven into a network.Therefore,it could be used as a source of cell transplantation after SCI.The morphology of the cells was observed by staining,and the positive CD44 was detected.(3)BMSCs were transfected into the SCI model by lentiviral vector carrying GFP gene,and the expression of GFP in 6w was observed.(4)The results of modified inclined plane test and Rivlin locomotor BBB score of rats in simple injury group were significantly worse than those in transplantation control group(p<.05).2w,4w and 6w after transplantation groups could improve long-term motor function.The recovery of neurological dysfunction after 6w was the best,and the difference was statistically significant(p<.05).Conclusions:BMSCs transplantation could promote the recovery of neurological dysfunction after SCI,and the mechanism may be related to the differentiation of BMSCs into neurons and glial cells,and the BMSCs induced by transplantation could interact with peripheral nerve cells and produce some cytokines. | Laixing Liu Yude Zhu Xiangyi Wang Jishen Li Yixin Deng Xin Sui | 2015 | Discussion of Clinical Cases2015,2,4: | 0 |
