| 2 | Efficacy of epalrestat plus α-lipoic acid combination therapy versus monotherapy in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy: a meta-analysis of 20 randomized controlled trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of α-lipoic acid(ALA) plus epalrestat combination therapy in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN). DATA SOURCES: The electronic databases of Pub Med, Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Wanfang Database and the Chinese Biomedical Database were used to retrieve relevant studies without language restrictions. The search was conducted from the inception of each database to 7 October 2016. The key terms were(diabetic peripheral neuropathy or diabetic neuropathy or DPN) AND(α-lipoic acid or lipoic acid or thioctic acid) AND epalrestat. DATA SELECTION: All of the eligible studies met the following inclusion criteria:(1) Randomized controlled trials that compared efficacy and safety of epalrestat plus ALA combination therapy versus epalrestat or ALA monotherapy in patients with DPN.(2) The minimum duration of treatment was 2 weeks.(3) The DPN patients were diagnosed using the World Health Organization standardized type 2 diabetes mellitus and DPN criteria.(4) Studies contained at least one measure that could reflect the efficacy of the drug and nerve conduction velocities. Studies in which the control group used epalrestat or ALA combined with other drugs were excluded. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA software for meta-analysis. OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcomes were the therapeutic efficacy, median motor nerve conduction velocity(MNCV), median sensory nerve conduction velocity(SNCV), peroneal MNCV and peroneal SNCV.RESULTS: Twenty studies with 1894 DPN patients were included, including 864 patients in the ALA plus epalrestat group, 473 in the ALA group and 557 in the epalrestat group. The efficacy of ALA plus epalrestat combination therapy was superior to ALA and epalrestat monotherapies(RR = 1.29, 95% CI: 1.21–1.38; RR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.34–1.54, respectively). | 3 | Soil mulching can mitigate soil water defi ciency impacts on rainfed maize production in semiarid environments显示文摘Temporally irregular rainfall distribution and inefficient rainwater management create severe constraints on crop production in rainfed semiarid areas. Gravel and plastic film mulching are effective methods for improving agricultural productivity and water utilization. However, the effects of these mulching practices on soil water supply and plant water use associated with crop yield are not well understood. A 3-yr study was conducted to analyze the occurrence and distribution of dry spells in a semiarid region of Northwest China and to evaluate the effects of non-mulching(CK), gravel mulching(GM) and plastic film mulching(FM) on the soil water supply, plant water use and maize(Zea mays L.) grain yield. Rainfall analysis showed that dry spells of ≥5 days occurred frequen tly in each of 3 yr, accounting for 59.9–69.2% of the maize growing periods. T he >15-d dry spells during the jointing stage would expose maize plants to particularly severe water stress. Compared with the CK treatment, both the GM and FM treatments markedly increased soil water storage during the early growing season. In general, the total evapotranspiration(ET) was not significantly different among the three treatments, but the mulched treatments significantly increased the ratio of pre- to post-silking ET, which was closely associated with yield improvement. As a result, the grain yield significantly increased by 17.1, 70.3 and 16.7% for the GM treatment and by 28.3, 87.6 and 38.2% for the FM treatment in 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively, compared with the CK treatment. It's concluded that both GM and FM are effective strategies for mitigating the impacts of water deficit and improving maize production in semiarid areas. | 4 | Comorbidity Burden of Dementia:A Hospital-Based Retrospective Study from 2003 to 2012 in Seven Cities in China显示文摘Dementia is increasing dramatically and imposes a huge burden on society. To date, there is a lack of data on the health status of patients with dementia in China. In an attempt to investigate the comorbidity burden of dementia patients in China at the national level, we enrolled 2,938 patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD), vascular dementia(Va D), or other types of dementia, who were admitted to tertiary hospitals in seven regions of China from January2003 to December 2012. The Charlson Comorbidity Index(CCI) was used to evaluate the comorbidity burden of the patients with dementia. Among these patients, 53.4% had AD, 26.3% had Va D, and 20.3% had other types of dementia. The CCI was 3.0 ± 1.9 for all patients,3.4 ± 1.8 for those with Va D, and 3.0 ± 2.1 for those with AD. The CCI increased with age in all patients, andthe length of hospital stay and daily expenses rose with age and CCI. Males had a higher CCI and a longer stay than females. Moreover, patients admitted in the last 5 years of the study had a higher CCI than those admitted in the first 5 years. We found that the comorbidity burden of patients with dementia is heavy. | 6 | Systematic study of human long intergenic non-coding RNAs and their impact on cancer显示文摘The functional impact of several long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs) has been characterized in previous studies. However, it is difficult to identify lincRNAs on a large-scale and to ascertain their functions or predict their structures in laboratory experiments because of the diversity, lack of knowledge and specificity of expression of lincRNAs. Furthermore, although there are a few well-characterized examples of lincRNAs associated with cancers, these are just the tip of the iceberg owing to the complexity of cancer. Here, by combining RNA-Seq data from several kinds of human cell lines with chromatin-state maps and human expressed sequence tags, we successfully identified more than 3000 human lincRNAs, most of which were new ones. Subsequently, we predicted the functions of 105 lincRNAs based on a coding-non-coding gene co-expression network. Finally, we propose a genetic mediator and key regulator model to unveil the subtle relationships between lincRNAs and lung cancer. Twelve lincRNAs may be principal players in lung tumorigenesis. | 7 | Multi-objective optimization of space station short-term mission planning显示文摘This paper studies the multi-objective optimization of space station short-term mission planning(STMP), which aims to obtain a mission-execution plan satisfying multiple planning demands. The planning needs to allocate the execution time effectively, schedule the on-board astronauts properly, and arrange the devices reasonably. The STMP concept models for problem definitions and descriptions are presented, and then an STMP multi-objective planning model is developed. To optimize the STMP problem, a Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II(NSGA-II) is adopted and then improved by incorporating an iterative conflict-repair strategy based on domain knowledge. The proposed approach is demonstrated by using a test case with thirty-five missions, eighteen devices and three astronauts. The results show that the established STMP model is effective, and the improved NSGA-II can successfully obtain the multi-objective optimal plans satisfying all constraints considered. | 9 | Design of high temperature superconducting contiguous-band diplexer显示文摘A high temperature superconducting (HTS) contiguous-band diplexer was designed and fabricated. The HTS contiguous-band diplexer was made using 2-inch-diameter LaA1O3 wafers coated with epi-taxial thin film YBO on both sides, and was made up of two 4-pole singly-terminated low-pass prototype bandpass channel filters connected in parallel. Its operation frequency was centered at 3.25GHz and 3.75GHz with 500-MHz-wide channels. The HTS diplexer operated at 77 K shows excellent performance. The insertion loss in the pass-band is less than 0.8 dB and the rejection between per channel is greater than 30dB. In comparison with the conventional diplexer, the HTS diplexer offers more than 2dB improvement in insertion loss performance and 3/4 volume reduction. | 10 | Treatment results and prognostic factors of patients undergoing postoperative radiotherapy for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Postoperative radiotherapy (PRT) is widely advocated for patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck that are considered to be at high risk of recurrence after surgical resection. The aims of this study were to evaluate the treatment outcomes of PRT for patients with laryngeal carcinoma and to identify the value of several prognostic factors. We reviewed the records of 256 patients treated for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma between January 1993 and December 2005. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Log-rank test was employed to identify significant prognostic factors for DFS and OS. The Cox proportional hazards model was applied to identify covariates significantly associated with the aforementioned endpoints. Our results showed the 3-, 5-, and 10-year DFS for all patients were 69.9%, 59.5%, and 34.9%, respectively. The 3-, 5-, and 10-year OS rates were 80.8%, 68.6%, and 38.8%, respectively. Significant prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on univariate analysis were grade, primary site, T stage, N stage, overall stage, lymph node metastasis, overall treatment times of radiation, the interval between surgery and radiotherapy, and radiotherapy equipment. Favorable prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on multivariate analysis were lower overall stage, no cervical lymph node metastasis, and using 60Co as radiotherapy equipment. | 11 | Direct generation of watt-level yellow Dy^(3+)-doped fiber laser显示文摘Yellow lasers(∼565–590 nm)are of tremendous interest in biomedicine,astronomy,spectroscopy,and display technology.So far,yellow lasers still have relied heavily on nonlinear frequency conversion of near-infrared lasers,precluding compact and low-cost yellow laser systems.Here,we address the challenge through demonstrating,for the first time,to the best of our knowledge,watt-level high-power yellow laser generation directly from a compact fiber laser.The yellow fiber laser simply consists of a Dy^(3+)-doped ZBLAN fiber as gain medium,a fiber end-facet mirror with high reflectivity at yellow and a 450-nm diode laser as the pump source.We comprehensively investigated the dependence of the yellow laser performance on the output coupler reflectivity and the gain fiber length and demonstrated that the yellow fiber laser with an output coupler reflectivity of 4% and a gain fiber length of∼1.8 m yields a maximum efficiency of 33.6%.A maximum output power of 1.12 W at 575 nm was achieved at a pump power of 4.20 W.This work demonstrated the power scaling of yellow Dy^(3+)-doped ZBLAN fiber lasers,showing their promise for applications in ophthalmology,astronomical exploration,and high-resolution spectroscopy. | Jinhai Zou Tianran Li Yanbo Dou Jin Li Nan Chen Yikun Bu Zhengqian Luo | 2021 | Photonics Research2021,9,4: | 5 |
| 12 | A comparative study on different regeneration processes of Pt-Sn/γ-Al2O3 catalysts for propane dehydrogenation显示文摘Three different regeneration processes including hydrogen or nitrogen purging and coke-burning treatment were used to restore the Pt-Sn/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts, through which propane dehydrogenation reaction was performed in a consecutive reaction-regeneration mode. It was found that the catalyst using hydrogen regeneration showed the best stability compared with those regenerated by nitrogen purging and coke-burning treatment, suggesting that hydrogen regeneration is an effective approach for maintaining the performance of Pt-Sn/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts in propane dehydrogenation reaction. The effect of different regeneration atmospheres on the metal active center and the coke deposition was investigated by XRD,TEM, N_2-physisorption, TPO, TG and Raman technologies, and the results revealed that hydrogen or nitrogen regeneration resulted in little impact on the size and structure of metal active center, retaining the effective Pt Sn phase over the catalyst. Moreover, hydrogen regeneration not only removed the low dense components of the coke, but also altered the property of the residual coke through hydrogenation, leading to a higher mobility of coke, and thus a higher accessibility of the metal active centers. Whereas nitrogen regeneration only removed the low dense components of the coke. | 14 | Space station short-term mission planning using ontology modelling and time iteration显示文摘This paper studies the problem of the space station short-term mission planning, which aims to allocate the executing time of missions effectively, schedule the corresponding resources reasonably and arrange the time of the astronauts properly. A domain model is developed by using the ontology theory to describe the concepts, constraints and relations of the planning domain formally, abstractly and normatively. A method based on time iteration is adopted to solve the short-term planning problem. Meanwhile, the resolving strategies are proposed to resolve different kinds of conflicts induced by the constraints of power, heat, resource, astronaut and relationship. The proposed approach is evaluated in a test case with fifteen missions, thirteen resources and three astronauts. | 15 | Evolutionary annotation of conserved long non-coding RNAs in major mammalian species显示文摘Mammalian genomes contain tens of thousands of long non-coding RNAs(lnc RNAs) that have been implicated in diverse biological processes. However, the lnc RNA transcriptomes of most mammalian species have not been established, limiting the evolutionary annotation of these novel transcripts. Based on RNA sequencing data from six tissues of nine species, we built comprehensive lnc RNA catalogs(4,142–42,558 lnc RNAs) covering the major mammalian species. Compared to protein-coding RNAs, expression of lnc RNAs exhibits striking lineage specificity. Notably, although 30%–99% human lnc RNAs are conserved across different species on DNA locus level, only 20%–27% of these conserved lnc RNA loci are detected to transcription, which represents a stark contrast to the proportion of conserved protein-coding genes(48%–80%). This finding provides a valuable resource for experimental scientists to study the mechanisms of lnc RNAs. Moreover, we constructed lnc RNA expression phylogenetic trees across nine mammals and demonstrated that lnc RNA expression profiles can reliably determine phylogenic placement in a manner similar to their coding counterparts. Our data also reveal that the evolutionary rate of lnc RNA expression varies among tissues and is significantly higher than those for protein-coding genes. To streamline the processes of browsing lnc RNAs and detecting their evolutionary statuses, we integrate all the data produced in this study into a database named Phylo NONCODE(http://gffzz4d3d7636fb124c4fhcupuw6ofn5f56kxp.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/phylo Noncode). | 18 | Satellite dataset analysis of recent vegetation variation in Tibet region显示文摘This research investigates the recent distribution variation trends of vegetation in the Tibet region using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data from 2000 to 2007. It also discusses the causes of vegetation degradation in typical regions (such as Nagqu) based on climatic conditions, human activity, and other influencing factors. Results show that the areas with the best vegetation cover are in Nyingchi and the southern part of Shannan, followed by Chamdo, the Lhasa area, and the eastern part of Nagqu. Vegetation in various regions exhibits significant seasonal differences. The vegetation status has improved in some parts of the Tibet region in the past few years, while the areas with the most serious degradation are in the middle and southern parts of the Nagqu region. On average, distinct vegetation degradation occurred between 2003 and 2006 in the whole Tibet region but vegetation has been increasing since 2006. The vegetation cover in summer basically determines the annual vegetation status. An increase in precipitation and decrease in wind speed generally corresponds to an increase in vegetation cover. The reverse is also true: a decrease in precipitation and increase in wind speed correspond to the decrease in vegetation cover. NDVI is thus positively related to temperature and precipitation but has a negative relation with wind speed. Increasing temperature and decreasing precipitation have led to the present vegetation degradation in Nagqu, and vegetation in all of these regions has been affected by growth of human population, intensified urbanization, livestock overgrazing leading to the proliferation of noxious plants, extraction of underground minerals and alluvial gold, extensive harvesting of traditional Chinese medicinal plants [e.g., Cordyceps sinensis, Caladium spp., and saffron crocus (Crocus sativus)], and serious rodent and other pest damage. | Zhuo Ga Xirl Li LUO Bu CaiYun Wang | 2011 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2011,3,5: | 3 |
| 19 | 3.6 W compact all-fiber Pr3+-doped green laser at 521 nm显示文摘Green semiconductor lasers are still undeveloped,so high-power green lasers have heavily relied on nonlinear frequency conversion of near-infrared lasers,precluding compact and low-cost green laser systems.Here,we report the first Watt-level all-fiber CW Pr3t-doped laser operating directly in the green spectral region,addressing the aforementioned difficulties.The compact all-fiber laser consists of a double-clad Pr3t-doped fluoride fiber,two homemade fiber dichroic mirrors at visible wavelengths,and a 443-nm fiber-pigtailed pump source.Benefitting from>10 MW∕cm2 high damage intensity of our designed fiber dielectric mirror,the green laser can stably deliver 3.62-W of continuous-wave power at∼521 nm with a slope efficiency of 20.9%.To the best of our knowledge,this is the largest output power directly from green fiber lasers,which is one order higher than previously reported.Moreover,these green all-fiber laser designs are optimized by using experiments and numerical simulations.Numerical results are in excellent agreement with our experimental results and show that the optimal gain fiber length,output mirror reflectivity,and doping level should be considered to obtain higher power and efficiency.This work may pave a path toward compact high-power green all-fiber lasers for applications in biomedicine,laser display,underwater detection,and spectroscopy. | Jinhai Zou Jinfen Hong Zhuang Zhao Qingyuan Li Qiujun Ruan Hang Wang Yikun Bu Xianchao Guan Min Zhou Zhiyong Feng Zhengqian Luo | 2022 | Advanced Photonics2022,4,5: | 2 |
| 20 | Caspase-3 expression in metastatic lymph nodes of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is prognostic of survival显示文摘AIM:To assess whether differential expression of caspase-3 in paired metastatic lymph nodes(LNs)is prognostic of survival in patients with resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).METHODS:Capases-3 expression was evaluated immunohistochemically in 122 pairs of primary ESCCs and regional metastatic LNs assembled on tissue microarrays.The impact of caspase-3 expression on survival outcomes was analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards regression model.RESULTS:The level of caspase-3 expression was significantly higher in LN metastases than in primary tumors(P<0.001).Caspase-3 expression in the primary tumors was associated with longer median survival(23 mo vs21 mo,P=0.033),whereas higher expression in paired metastatic LNs was associated with shorter median survival(20 mo vs 22 mo,P=0.043).Multivariate analysis showed that both were independent prognostic factors.CONCLUSION:Caspase-3 expression in metastatic LNs may be a potential independent predictor of poorer overall survival in patients with resected ESCC and LN metastasis.Protein expression in metastatic tumors may be a biomarker prognostic of survival. | Xiu-Shen Wang Kong-Jia Luo Amos Ela Bella Shan-Shan Bu Jing Wen Shui-Shen Zhang Yi Hu | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,15: | 2 |
