| 1 | Isolation and characterization of H7N9 viruses from live poultry markets--Implication of the source of current H7N9 infection in humans显示文摘On March 31, 2013, the National Health and Family Planning Commission announced that human infections with a previously undescribed influenza A (H7N9) virus had occurred in Shanghai and Anhui Province, China. To investigate the possible origins of the H7N9 viruses causing these human infections, we collected 970 samples, including drinking water, soil, and cloacal and tracheal swabs of poultry from live poultry markets and poultry farms in Shanghai and Anhui Province. Twenty samples were positive for the H7N9 influenza virus. Notably, all 20 viruses were isolated from samples collected from live poultry markets in Shanghai. Phylogenetic analyses showed that the six internal genes of these novel human H7N9 viruses were derived from avian H9N2 viruses, but the ancestor of their HA and NA genes is uncertain. When we examined the phylogenetic relationship between the H7N9 isolates from live poultry markets and the viruses that caused the human infections, we found that they shared high homology across all eight gene segments. We thus identified the direct avian origin of the H7N9 influenza viruses that caused the human infections. Importantly, we observed that the H7N9 viruses isolated from humans had acquired critical mutations that made them more 'human-like'. | 2 | A ZnO thin-film driven microcantilever for nanoscale actuation and sensing显示文摘Zinc oxide(ZnO)thin film as a piezoelectric material for microelectromechanical system(MEMS)actuators and sensors was evaluated.ZnO thin films were deposited using radio frequency(RF)magnetron sputtering.Process parameters such as gas ratio,working pressure,and RF power were optimized for crystalline structure.The ZnO thin films were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Good quality of ZnO thin films was further confirmed by a high transverse piezoelectric coefficient d31.A microcantilever was then designed,fabricated,and characterized.Design formulas of resonant frequency,actuation,and sensing sensitivities were derived.The resonant frequency was determined by an impedance analyzer.Tip deflection on nanometer level was demonstrated with the cantilever used as an actuator.The actuation sensitivity was found to be 12.2 nm/V.As a sensor,the cantilever was calibrated against a reference accelerometer.The sensing sensitivity was characterized to be 46 mV/g.The characterization results were compared with design specifications.The differences were caused mainly by thickness control in etching.This study showed that ZnO is a promising piezoelectric material for MEMS actuators and sensors in terms of excellent process compatibility and good piezoelectric performance. | Yanhui Yuan Kun Shyong Chow Hejun Du Peihong Wang Mingsheng Zhang Shengkai Yu k Bo Liu | 2013 | International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials2013,4,2: | 2 |

| 13 | ANIONIC SYNTHESIS OF A “CLICKABLE” MIDDLE-CHAIN AZIDE-FUNCTIONALIZED POLYSTYRENE AND ITS APPLICATION IN SHAPE AMPHIPHILES显示文摘'Click chemistry' is, by definition, a general functionalization methodology (GFM) and its marriage with living anionic polymerization is particularly powerful in precise macromolecular synthesis. This paper reports the synthesis of a 'clickable' middle-chain azide-functionalized polystyrene (mPS-N3 ) by anionic polymerization and its application in the preparation of novel shape amphiphiles based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS). The mPS-N3 was synthesized by coupling living poly(styryl)lithium chains (PSLi) with 3-chloropropylmethyldichlorosilane and subsequent nucleophilic substitution of the chloro group in the presence of sodium azide. Excess PSLi was end-capped with ethylene oxide to facilitate its removal by flash chromatography. The mPS-N3 was then derived into a giant lipid-like shape amphiphile in two steps following a sequential 'click' strategy. The copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition between mPS-N3 and alkyne-functionalized vinyl-substituted POSS derivative (VPOSS-alkyne) ensured quantitative ligation to give polystyrene with VPOSS tethered at the middle of the chain (mPS-VPOSS). The thiol-ene reaction with 1-thioglycerol transforms the vinyl groups on the POSS periphery to hydroxyls, resulting in an amphiphilic shape amphiphile, mPS-DPOSS. This synthetic approach is highly efficient and modular.
