1Melatonin alleviates intervertebral disc degeneration by disrupting the IL-1β/NF-κB-NLRP3 inflammasome positive feedback loop显示文摘The inflammatory response is induced by the overexpression of inflammatory cytokines, mainly interleukin(IL)-1β, and is one of the main causes of intervertebral disc degeneration(IVDD). NLR pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3) inflammasome activation is an important source of IL-1β. As an anti-inflammatory neuroendocrine hormone, melatonin plays various roles in different pathophysiological conditions. However, its roles in IVDD are still not well understood and require more examination. First, we demonstrated that melatonin delayed the progression of IVDD and relieved IVDD-related low back pain in a rat needle puncture IVDD model;moreover, NLRP3 inflammasome activation(NLRP3, p20, and IL-1β levels) was significantly upregulated in severely degenerated human discs and a rat IVDD model. Subsequently, an IL-1β/NF-κB-NLRP3 inflammasome activation positive feedback loop was found in nucleus pulposus(NP) cells that were treated with IL-1β. In these cells, expression of NLRP3 and p20 was significantly increased, NF-κB signaling was involved in this regulation, and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(mt ROS)production increased. Furthermore, we found that melatonin disrupted the IL-1β/NF-κB-NLRP3 inflammasome activation positive feedback loop in vitro and in vivo. Melatonin treatment decreased NLRP3, p20, and IL-1β levels by inhibiting NF-κB signaling and downregulating mt ROS production. Finally, we showed that melatonin mediated the disruption of the positive feedback loop of IL-1β in vivo. In this study, we showed for the first time that IL-1β promotes its own expression by upregulating NLRP3 inflammasome activation. 2A newly discovered Gigantopithecus fauna from Sanhe Cave, Chongzuo, Guangxi, South China显示文摘Among the most important faunas in the Late Cenozoic, the Gigantopithecus faunas have received a good deal of attention. The Gigantopithecus fauna recently discovered in Sanhe Cave consists of more than 80 mammal species, including cf. Hominidae, Pongo sp., Hylobates sp., Sinomastodon yangzien-sis, Stegodon preorientalis, Cervavitus fenqii, Dicoryphochoerus ultimus and Sus xiaozhu. It is the southernmost Gigantopithecus fauna found so far in China. Its geological age is estimated to be Early Pleistocene based on the fauna and stratigraphic correlation. The significant increase in the estimated body sizes of Ailuropoda, Gigantopithecus and Tapirus shows that the Sanhe fauna is middle Early Pleistocene, later than those from Wushan and Liucheng (early Early Pleistocene). Paleomagnetic dating of the fossil-bearing strata in Sanhe Cave gives an age of approximately 1.2 Ma. The fauna is characterized by tropical-subtropical forest types, including Pongo sp., Tupaia sp., Ia sp., Typhlomys intermedius, etc., and it lacks Palaearctic types. It is a typical tropical forest fauna, suggesting an en-vironment with a lush forest and a warm and humid climate. 3Shape anisotropic Fe3O4 nanotubes for efficient microwave absorption显示文摘Although Fe3O4 particles have exhibited excellent microwave absorbing capacity and widely used in practical application due to the synergistic effect of magnetic loss and dielectric loss,their applications are still limited for the required high mass fraction in absorbers.To overcome this problem,the development of Fe3O4 materials with low dimensional structures is necessary.In this study,the shape anisotropic Fe3O4 nanotubes(NTs)with low mass ratios were applied to realize efficient microwave absorption.The NTs with different aspect ratios were prepared through facile electrospinning followed by two-step thermal treatments and mechanical shearing.The cross-linked nanotubular structure enabled the absorbers to have much higher electrical conductivity,multiple scattering,polarization relaxation and better anti-reflection surface,while the shape anisotropic NTs maintained significant multiple resonances with stronger coercivity.These all were beneficial to microwave absorption with enhanced dielectric loss,magnetic loss and sterling impedance matching.Results showed that the absorber with 33.3 wt.%of short Fe3O4 NTs had minimum reflection loss of-58.36 dB at 17.32 GHz with a thickness of 1.27 mm,and had the maximum effective absorbing bandwidth(EAB)of 5.27 GHz when the thickness was 1.53 mm.The absorber with 14.3 wt.%of long Fe3O4 NTs presented the widest EAB in certain radar band with attenuated 80.75%X band and 85%Ku band energy bellow-10 dB at the thickness of 2.65 and 1.53 mm,respectively.This study provided an approach for the development of shape anisotropic magnetic absorbing materials,and broadened their practical applications as magnetic absorbers.Jialiang Pan Honggui Guo Min Wang Hui Yang Haowen Hu Peng Liu Hongwei Zhu 2020Nano Research2020,13,3:8
4Simultaneous extraction of DNA and RNA from Escherichia coli BL 21 based on silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles显示文摘The extraction of nucleic acid is recognized as one of the most essential steps in molecular biology for initiating other downstream applications such as sequencing, amplification, hybridization, and cloning. Many commercial kits and methods are currently available that allow the extraction of only one type of nucleic acids-DNA or RNA. However, in parallel clinical detection of several diseases, a method for simultaneous extraction of both DNA and RNA from the same source is needed in such cases. In this study, a method for simultaneous extraction of DNA and RNA from bacteria based on magnetic nanoparticles(MNPs) was described. Lysis buffers were prepared to help the nucleic acid released and adsorbed to MNPs. Then, two washing buffers were used to remove the contamination of proteins and carbohydrates. The nucleic acids were finally eluted by Deoxyribonuclease(DNase) and Ribonucleases(RNase) free water. Different factors which might affect the purification of the nucleic acid were investigated, and the quantity and quality parameters of the nucleic acid were also recorded. The DNA and RNA extracted from bacteria were then respectively subjected to polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and reverse transcription PCR(RT-PCR) to further confirm its quality. 7Effectiveness of MRA on embolized intracranial aneurysms: a comparison of DSA, CE-MRA, and TOF-MRA显示文摘Purpose: The endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms was proven safe and effective compared to the alternative method of surgical clipping, despite the high recurrence rate. Follow-up of embolized intracranial aneurysms is mandatory for the early detection of recurrence and improved outcomes. DSA is used as the reference standard for this assessment. To determine the effectiveness of MRA in follow-up evaluations of intracranial aneurysms after embolization by comparing DSA, CE-MRA, and TOF-MRA. Materials and Methods: Sixty-eight consecutive patients undergoing DSA, TOF-MRA, and CE-MRA during an interval of <1 week were enrolled in this 6-month study. Images were evaluated for occlusion status, patency of the parent vessels, and artifacts. The modified Raymond-Roy occlusion classification and Aneurysm Embolization Grades were used to assess the occlusion status and initial DSA images for detection of recurrence in two filtered study phases with optimized selection criteria. Seventeen observers(phase I: 9, phase II: 8) independently interpreted the double-blinded images. Agreement was expressed with a Fleiss kappa value; p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: This study included 68 patients with 77 aneurysms; 38(49.35%) were treated with coil alone and 39(50.65%) with stent-assisted coiling. In both phases, DSA was superior to TOF-MRA and CE-MRA using MRRC(Phase I: k = 0.567, p ≤ 0.001; k = 0.287, p ≤ 0.001; k = 0.117, p ≤ 0.001, respectively; Phase II: k = 0.503, p ≤ 0.001; k = 0.303, p ≤ 0.001; k = 0.115, p = 0.038, respectively). TOF-MRA was as effective as DSA(TOF: k = 0.335, p ≤ 0.001; DSA: k = 0.323, p ≤ 0.001) for recurrence detection. 8Integration of Multiple Heterointerfaces in a Hierarchical 0D@2D@1D Structure for Lightweight,Flexible,and Hydrophobic Multifunctional Electromagnetic Protective Fabrics显示文摘The development of wearable multifunctional electromagnetic protective fabrics with multifunctional,low cost,and high efficiency remains a challenge.Here,inspired by the unique flower branch shape of“Thunberg’s meadowsweet”in nature,a nanofibrous composite membrane with hierarchical structure was constructed.Integrating sophisticated 0D@2D@1D hierarchical structures with multiple heterointerfaces can fully unleash the multifunctional application potential of composite membrane.The targeted induction method was used to precisely regulate the formation site and morphology of the metal–organic framework precursor,and intelligently integrate multiple heterostructures to enhance dielectric polarization,which improves the impedance matching and loss mechanisms of the electromagnetic wave absorbing materials.Due to the synergistic enhancement of electrospinning-derived carbon nanofiber“stems”,MOF-derived carbon nanosheet“petals”and transition metal selenide nano-particle“stamens”,the CoxSey/NiSe@CNSs@CNFs(CNCC)composite membrane obtains a minimum reflection loss value(RL_(min))of-68.40 dB at 2.6 mm and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 8.88 GHz at a thin thickness of 2.0 mm with a filling amount of only 5 wt%.In addition,the multi-component and hierarchical heterostructure endow the fibrous membrane with excellent flexibility,water resistance,thermal management,and other multifunctional properties.This work provides unique perspectives for the precise design and rational application of multifunctional fabrics.Shuo Zhang Xuehua Liu Chenyu Jia Zhengshuo Sun Haowen Jiang Zirui Jia Guanglei Wu 2023Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,11:3
9On fossil remains of Early Pleistocene tapir (Perissodactyla, Mammalia) from Fanchang, Anhui显示文摘The materials of Tapirus from Renzidong, Fanchang, Anhui Province, are the best ones among the early most Pleistocene findings in China up to now, not only in richness, but also in completeness. The fossils contain complete tooth rows of both the upper and the lower, as well as most parts of the postcranial skeletons. These materials are very helpful in understanding the evolutionary level of this kind of animal. In morphology, the materials from Fanchang appear to be very similar to Tapirus sanyuanensis, and can be placed within this species. The materials from Fanchang provided sound evidence to distinguish the Early Pleistocene tapirs and the living form Tapirus indicus, As to the geological distribution, it can be tentatively concluded that Tapirus sanyuanensis and Tapirus sinensis only appeared in Early Pleistocene, Megatapirus appeared after Early Pleistocene, and lasted until Holocene. 10Grain Yield, Quality and 2-Acetyl-1-Pyrroline of Fragrant Rice in Response to Different Planting Seasons in South China显示文摘Climate conditions is an important factor affected the fragrant rice growth and development.In order to study the effects of different planting seasons on fragrant rice performance in South China,present study was conducted with three planting seasons(early season(April to July),middle season(June to September)and late season(August to November))and three fragrant rice cultivars,‘Basmati-385’,‘Meixiangzhan-2’and‘Xiangyaxiangzhan’.The results showed that the highest grain yield and grain 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline(2-AP,key component of fragrant rice aroma)content were both recorded in late season treatment while the fragrant rice in middle season treatment produced the lowest grain yield,grain filling percentage,1000-grain weight and gain 2-AP content.The highest contents of precursors(proline,pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid and 1-pyrro-line)which related to 2-AP biosynthesis were recorded in late season treatment compared with early season treatment and middle season treatment.The highest activities of enzymes(proline dehydrogenase,pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid synthetase and ornithine transaminase)which involved in 2-AP biosynthesis were also observed in late season treatment.Moreover,the fragrant rice cultivars in late season possessed the lowest chalk rice rate,chalkiness as well as the highest brown rice rate,head rice and protein content.Thus,the optimal season for fragrant rice production in South China is the late season.Leilei Kong Haowen Luo Zhaowen Mo Shenggang Pan Zhixia Liu Qiang Zhang Song Bai Xiangru Tang 2020Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2020,89,3:2

12Optical coherent dot-product chip for sophisticated deep learning regression显示文摘Optical implementations of neural networks(ONNs)herald the next-generation high-speed and energy-efficient deep learning computing by harnessing the technical advantages of large bandwidth and high parallelism of optics.However,due to the problems of the incomplete numerical domain,limited hardware scale,or inadequate numerical accuracy,the majority of existing ONNs were studied for basic classification tasks.Given that regression is a fundamental form of deep learning and accounts for a large part of current artificial intelligence applications,it is necessary to master deep learning regression for further development and deployment of ONNs.Here,we demonstrate a silicon-based optical coherent dot-product chip(OCDC)capable of completing deep learning regression tasks.The OCDC adopts optical fields to carry out operations in the complete real-value domain instead of in only the positive domain.Via reusing,a single chip conducts matrix multiplications and convolutions in neural networks of any complexity.Also,hardware deviations are compensated via in-situ backpropagation control provided the simplicity of chip architecture.Therefore,the OCDC meets the requirements for sophisticated regression tasks and we successfully demonstrate a representative neural network,the AUTOMAP(a cutting-edge neural network model for image reconstruction).The quality of reconstructed images by the OCDC and a 32-bit digital computer is comparable.To the best of our knowledge,there is no precedent of performing such state-of-the-art regression tasks on ONN chips.It is anticipated that the OCDC can promote the novel accomplishment of ONNs in modern AI applications including autonomous driving,natural language processing,and scientific study.Shaofu Xu Jing Wang Haowen Shu Zhike Zhang Sicheng Yi Bowen Bai Xingjun Wang Jianguo Liu Weiwen Zou 2021Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,12:2

17Association between Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Fatty Liver Disease and Cognitive Impairment显示文摘Background and Aims:Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is a newly proposed term based on modified criteria.Although nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)has been well-documented as a multisystem dis-ease,research on the correlation of MAFLD and extra-hepatic diseases is limited.This study aimed to clarify the association of MAFLD,as well as NAFLD status with cognitive function.Methods:A total of 5,662 participants 20-59 years of age who underwent cognitive tests and liver ultrasonography in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were included in the analysis.Cognitive function was evalu-ated using three computer-administered tests,the serial dig-it learning test(SDLT),the simple reaction time test(SRTT)and the symbol digit substitution test(SDST).Results:Par-ticipants with MAFLD had significantly poorer performance on the SRTT[odds ratio(OR)1.47,95%confidence interval(CI):1.14-1.89)].MAFLD with moderate-severe liver stea-tosis was associated with higher risks of scoring low in the SDLT(OR 1.37,95%CI:1.04-1.82)and SRTT(OR 1.55,95%CI:1.19-2.02).NAFLD combined with metabolic dys-function,instead of NAFLD without metabolic disorders,was associated an increased risk of a low SRTT score(OR 1.44,95%CI:1.10-1.82).MAFLD patients had a high probability of fibrosis,prediabetes,and diabetes and were also signifi-cantly associated with increased risks based on the SDST or SRTT score.Conclusions:MAFLD was significantly associ-ated with increased risk of cognitive impairment,especially among MAFLD patients with a high degree of liver fibrosis,moderate-severe steatosis,or hyperglycemia.Qiang Yu Ruixin He Haowen Jiang Ji Wu Zhifeng Xi Kang He Yongbo Liu Tao Zhou Mingxuan Feng Ping Wan Hexin Yan Qiang Xia 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,6:1
