| 1 | Effects of inorganic arsenic on growth and microcystin production of a Microcystis strain isolated from an algal bloom in Dianchi Lake,China显示文摘Our previous data have shown that inorganic arsenic concentrations were high in Dianchi Lake,China,where Microcystis blooms often occur.To explore the relationship between arsenic and the growth of Microcystis,the effects of arsenite[As(III)]and arsenate[As(V)]on the growth and toxin production of M.aeruginosa strain FACHB 905 were tested.Results showed that M.aeruginosa FACHB 905 was tolerant to inorganic arsenic and its growth was not inhibited when the concentration of As(III)was below 10-5 mol L-1 or that of As(V)below 10-3 mol L-1.Total microcystin production was stimulated in the presence of 10-7 mol L-1 As(III)and the response of this M.aeruginosa strain to As(III)seemed to be a typical inverted U-shaped hormesis.The content increase of microcystin-LR per cell indicated that the toxicity was enhanced as M.aeruginosa FACHB 905 was exposed to As(V).Considering the relatively high concentration of inorganic arsenic in Dianchi Lake(139μg L-1 in epilimnetic water),the origin of the M.aeruginosa strain,inorganic arsenic favors survival of M.aeruginosa FACHB 905 and may stimulate its microcystin production and cellular toxicity. | GONG Yan AO HongYi LIU BiBo WEN Sheng WANG Zhi HU DingJing ZHANG XingZhong SONG LiRong LIU JianTong | 2011 | Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,22: | 6 |

| 5 | Plastome and phylogenetic relationship of the woody buckwheat Fagopyrum tibeticum in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘The phylogenetic position of the monotypic woody Parapteropyrum(Polygonaceae)remains controversial.Parapteropyrum has been thought to be closely related to the woody genera of the tribe Atraphaxideae,although some evidence indicates that it nests within the herbal buckwheat genus Fagopyrum of tribe Polygoneae.In this study,we used plastome data to determine the phylogenetic position of Parapteropyrum(Fagopyrum)tibeticum.Different reference species were used to assemble plastomes of three species currently placed in the tribe Ataphaxideae:Parapteropyrum(Fagopyrum)tibeticum,Atraphaxis bracteata and Calligonum ebinuricum.Once assembled,plastomes were characterized and compared to plastomes of 12 species across the family Polygonaceae.Phylogenetic analyses of Polygonaceae were performed using whole plastome,all plastome genes,and single-copy genes.Plastomes assembled using different reference plastomes did not differ;however,annotations showed small variation.Plastomes of Parapteropyrum(Fagopyrum)tibeticum,A.bracteata and C.ebinuricum have the typical quadripartite structure with lengths between 159,265 bp and 164,270 bp,and a total number of plastome genes of about 130.Plastome microsatellites(SSR)ranged in number from 48 to 77.Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses of three plastome data sets consistently nested Parapteropyrum within the genus Fagopyrum.Furthermore,our analyses indicated that sampled woody genera of the family Polygonaceae are polyphyletic.Our study provides strong evidence that the woody Parapteropyrum tibeticum,which is distantly related to woody genera sampled here,should be taxonomically placed under Fagopyrum as Fagopyrum tibeticum. | Bibo Yang Liangda Li Jianquan Liu Lushui Zhang | 2021 | Plant Diversity2021,43,3: | 1 |

| 8 | Security-first architecture:deploying physically isolated active security processors for safeguarding the future of computing显示文摘It is fundamentally challenging to build a secure system atop the current computer architecture.The complexity in software,hardware and ASIC manufacture has reached beyond the capability of existing verification methodologies.Without whole-system verification,current systems have no proven security.It is observed that current systems are exposed to a variety of attacks due to the existence of a large number of exploitable security vulnerabilities.Some vulnerabilities are difficult to remove without significant performance impact because performance and security can be conflicting with each other.Even worse,attacks are constantly evolving,and sophisticated attacks are now capable of systematically exploiting multiple vulnerabilities while remain hidden from detection.Eagering to achieve security hardening of current computer architecture,existing defenses are mostly ad hoc and passive in nature.They are normally developed in responding to specific attacks spontaneously after specific vulnerabilities were discovered.As a result,they are not yet systematic in protecting systems from existing attacks and likely defenseless in front of zero-day attacks.To confront the aforementioned challenges,this paper proposes Security-first Architecture,a concept which enforces systematic and active defenses using Active Security Processors.In systems built based on this concept,traditional processors(i.e.,Computation Processors)are monitored and protected by Active Security Processors.The two types of processors execute on their own physically-isolated resources,including memory,disks,network and I/O devices.The Active Security Processors are provided with dedicated channels to access all the resources of the Computation Processors but not vice versa.This allows the Active Security Processors to actively detect and tackle malicious activities in the Computation Processors with minimum performance degradation while protecting themselves from the attacks launched from the Computation Processors thanks to the resource isolation. | Dan Meng Rui Hou Gang Shi Bibo Tu Aimin Yu Ziyuan Zhu Xiaoqi Jia Peng Liu | 2018 | Cybersecurity2018,1,1: | 0 |
| 9 | Expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and proapoptotic protein Bax after delayed paraplegia induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘BACKGROUND: Operation of spine does not involve in spinal cord; however, spinal cord injury occurs at post-operation induced by unclear factors. Meanwhile, after decompression of lumbar spinal canal, symptoms are severer and severer. In addition, during extirpation of cervical and lumbar intervertabral disc, spinal cord and its vessels are not damaged, but spinal cord injury is also suffered from patients with partial improvement. All statuses mentioned above are related to expressed changes of bcl -2 gene inhibiting apoptosis and bax gene accelerating apoptosis. OBJECTIVE: To observe motor function of hindlimbs of ischemia/reperfusion model in rabbits at various time points after reperfusion and expressions of apoptosis correlated protein Bcl-2 and Bax. DESIGN: Completely randomized grouping design and contrast study. SETTING: Department of Orthopedics, the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Xi’an Jiao Tong University. MATERIALS: Forty-eight New Zealand white rabbits of both genders were randomly divided into sham operation group (n =24) and model group (n =24), and then, rabbits in each group were observed at four time points: 8, 24, 72 and 168 hours after reperfusion, with 6 in each time point. Rabbit-anti-rabbit Bcl-2 antibody and rabbit-anti-rabbit Bax antibody were provided by Boster Company. The procedures were accordant to the kit introduction. METHODS: The experiment was carried out at Laboratory of Orthopaedics of First Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Xi’an Jiao Tong University from April to August 2005. ① Delayed paralysis models of spinal cord after ischemia/reperfusion were established based on method of Zivin et al. Animals in sham operation group underwent an exposure of abdominal aorta but the aorta was not occluded. ② Motor function of hindlimb was observed 8, 24, 72 and 168 hours after reperfusion. A grade of 0-5 was assigned to each animal (grade 0: no voluntary hind limb function; grade 5: normal hop; grades 0-3: paraplegia). ③ The lumbar segment of the spinal cord (L3 to L5) was used for morphological studies at 168 hours after reperfusion and cut into sections with the thickness of 4 μm; and then, the sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and observed under optic microscope. ④ After dewaxing, paraffin sections were used to detect expression of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins with Strept-Avidin-Biotin Complex, (SABC) kit (Wuhan Boster Company). The detailed operation was accordant to kit instruction. ⑤ Sections under the same staining condition but at various time points were measured with Image-Pro Plus Version 5.1 for Window TM (Median Cybernetics, Inc. USA.) to detect average integrated absorbency of positive cells of Bcl-2 and Bax protein. ⑥ Measurement data were compared with one-way analysis of variance and t test. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ①Hind limb motor function deficit;②Histopathological examination; ③ Expression of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins at different reperfusion time points in spinal cord. RESULTS: All the 48 rabbits were involved in the analysis of results. ① Motor function of hindlimb: Rabbits did not have paralysis in sham operation group. Rabbits in model group did not have paralysis at 8 hours after reperfusion, but had delayed paralysis at 24, 72 and 168 hours after reperfusion. Grade of motor function was lower than that in sham operation group (t =15.65, 20.55, 29.00, P < 0.01), similar to that in sham operation group at 8 hours after reperfusion and decreased obviously at 24 hours after reperfusion. ② Pathological changes of spinal cord tissue: Spinal cord tissue was normal in sham operation group. With the reperfusion time passing by, necrosis of neurons in spinal cord tissue in model group was increased, inflammatory reaction was strengthened gradually and pathological changes were obvious at 72 hours after reperfusion. ③ Expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax protein: At 8 hours after reperfusion, expressions were similar in both sham operation group and model group (Bcl-2: 20.42±4.22, 19.63±2.72; Bax: 5.22±1.24, 4.82±1.52, P > 0.05); expression of Bcl-2 was decreased obviously at 24 hours after reperfusion (8.09±0.96, t =9.78, P < 0.05) and reached the lowest value at 72 hours after reperfusion (6.08±1.51, t =11.06, P < 0.05). However, expression of Bax was increased obviously at 24 hours after reperfusion (12.84±1.77, t =7.88, P < 0.05) and reached peak at 72 hours after reperfusion (15.84±5.19, t =4.42, P < 0.05). At 168 hours after reperfusion, structure of gray matter was damaged severely and only a few of neurons survived. However, numbers of positive glial cells in white matter were increased, and expression of Bax was higher than that in sham operation group (9.41±1.53, t =6.44, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Ischemia/reperfusion injury of spinal cord can induce decrease of motor function of experimental animals and cause apoptosis.
