Review of small-bowel cleansing scales in capsule endoscopy: A panoply of choices显示文摘Evaluation of the quality of small-bowel cleansing is required to assess the reliability of findings in capsule endoscopy(CE). Moreover, consensus regarding the need of intestinal preparation for CE remains to be achieved. The presence of multiple grading scales for smallbowel preparation in CE, which are time-consuming and complicated, adds difficulty to the comparison of different small-bowel cleansing regimens and their application in clinical practice. Nowadays, a validated scale universally accepted for grading small-bowel cleansing is lacking. In fact, there are numerous grading systems with very different technical characteristics, namely, the parameters and the portion of the CE video that are analyzed, the objectivity of the analysis, the lesser or greater dependency on the operator, and the validation of the score. The authors performed a review which aims to systematize and summarize currently available smallbowel grading scales in CE. | Ana Ponte Rolando Pinho Adélia Rodrigues Joao Carvalho | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2016,8,17: | 6
Imbalance in T-cell differentiation as a biomarker of chronic diabetic foot ulceration显示文摘Diabetes is a growing epidemic due to the systematic increase in overweight and obesity, and chronic diabetic foot ulcers(DFUs)are the most debilitating and costly complication of diabetes.Prevention is still essential for DFU care, but early detection is limited because we do not have a good DFU biomarker. Here,we report the preliminary results of a large longitudinal study to test the effectiveness of the use of T-cell phenotype and TCR repertoire diversity as DFU biomarkers. Our results show that the ratio of effector/naïve T-cells and the number of TCR expansions are valuable biomarkers of DFU prognosis. | Joao Moura Joao Rodrigues Marta Gonçalves Claudia Amaral Margarida Lima Eugenia Carvalho | 2019 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,10: | 4
Smart Transformer/Large Flexible Transformer显示文摘Solid-state transformer-based smart transformer(ST)can provide the dc connectivity and advanced services to improve the grid performance and to increase the penetration of the power electronics interfaced resources(e.g.,distributed generators and electric vehicle charging stations)in modern electricity distribution grids.Since the ST is a new and effective paradigm of the electricity grid evolution to well understand the ST,this paper systematically presents the basic architecture and the typical control schemes of the ST and then the advanced services that ST can provide to improve the electricity grids performances in terms of the power flow control, power quality improvement, active damping and active contribution to improve distribution grid resilience by means of enabling autonomous microgrids operation as well as launching a restoration procedure following a general blackout. | Rongwu Zhu Markus Andresen Marius Langwasser Marco Liserre Joao Pecas Lopes Carlos Moreira Justino Rodrigues Mario Couto | 2020 | CES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems2020,4,4: | 3
Assessment of disease activity in inflammatory bowel diseases:Non-invasive biomarkers and endoscopic scores显示文摘Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)comprise two major forms:Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The diagnosis of IBD is based on clinical symptoms combined with results found in endoscopic and radiological examinations. In addition, the discovery of biomarkers has significantly improved the diagnosis and management of IBD.Several potential genetic, serological, fecal, microbial, histological and immunological biomarkers have been proposed for IBD,and they have been evaluated for clinical routine and clinical trials.Ileocolonoscopy, especially with biopsy collection, has been considered the standard method to diagnose IBD and to assess clinical activity of the disease, but it is limited to the colon and terminal ileum and is considered invasive. For this reason,non-invasive biomarkers are necessary for this type of chronic inflammatory disease, which affects mostly young individuals,as they are expected to have a long follow-up. | Bruno Lima Rodrigues Marcia Carolina Mazzaro Cristiane Kibune Nagasako Maria de Lourdes SetsukoAyrizono Joao Jose Fagundes Raquel Franco Leal | 2020 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2020,12,12: | 2

High aluminum concentration and initial establishment of Handroanthus impetiginosus : clues about an Al non-resistant species in Brazilian Cerrado显示文摘Cerrado soils are acidic and nutrient-poor,with high content of solubilized Al 3+.Plants growing in these conditions may display adaptations to cope with high aluminum concentrations especially during early developmental stages. We investigated leaf nutritional status, and photosynthetic and growth characteristics during the initial establishment of Handroanthus impetiginosus(Mart.Ex Dc.)Mattos,a secondary tree species distributed in the Brazilian Cerrado. Our goal was to understand leaf-level traits related to diff erent aluminum concentrations.H.impetiginosus plants were cultivated in four diff erent aluminum sulfate concentrations:0,1,2,and 4 mM Al,for 40 days.We performed analyses of growth, leaf gas exchange, chloroplast pigment content, and leaf mineral nutrients. We observed a linear increase of Al leaf content as a function of Al concentration in the nutrient solution.Plants grown in 1 mM Al showed a remarkable increase of K leaf content, net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, and transpiration, while in 4 mM Al there were reductions of N,P,and K contents, gas exchange characteristics, and height.H.impetiginosus did not have mechanisms of avoidance, compartmentalization,or resistance to high Al concentrations.Indeed, this species showed a hormetic response, with low Al concentrations stimulating and high Al concentrations inhibiting plant responses. | Ane Marcela das Chagas Mendon ca Jean Marcel Sousa Lira Ana Luiza de Oliveira Vilela Daniel Amorim Vieira Nayara Cristina de Melo Joao Paulo Rodrigues Alves Delfi no Barbosa | 2020 | Journal of Forestry Research2020,31,6: | 1

CYP1A1,CYP2E1 and EPHX1 polymorphisms in sporadic colorectal neoplasms显示文摘AIM To investigate the contribution of polymorphisms in the CYP1A1, CYP2E1 and EPHX1 genes on sporadic colorectal cancer(SCRC) risk. METHODS Six hundred forty-one individuals(227 patients with SCRC and 400 controls) were enrolled in the study. The variables analyzed were age, gender, tobacco and alcohol consumption, and clinical and histopathological tumor parameters. The CYP1A1 *2A, CYP1A1 *2C CYP2E1 *5B and CYP2E1 *6 polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). The EPHX1 Tyr113 His, EPHX1 His139 Arg and CYP1A1 *2C polymorphisms were detected by real-time PCR. Chisquared test and binary logistic regression were used in the statistical analysis. Haplotype analysis was conducted using the Haploview program, version 2.05.RESULTS Age over 6 2 years was a risk factor for SCRC development(OR = 7.54, 95%CI: 4.94-11.50, P < 0.01). Male individuals were less susceptible to SCRC(OR = 0.55, 95%CI: 0.35-0.85, P < 0.01). The CYP2E1*5B polymorphism was associated with SCRC in the codominant(heterozygous genotype: OR = 2.66, 95%CI: 1.64-4.32, P < 0.01), dominant(OR = 2.82, 95%CI: 1.74-4.55, P < 0.01), overdominant(OR = 2.58, 95%CI: 1.59-4.19, P < 0.01), and log-additive models(OR = 2.84, 95%CI: 1.78-4.52, P < 0.01). The CYP2E1*6 polymorphism was associated with an increased SCRC risk in codominant(heterozygous genotype: OR = 2.81, 95%CI: 1.84-4.28, P < 0.01; homozygous polymorphic : OR = 7. 3 2, 9 5 % C I : 1.85-28.96, P < 0.01), dominant(OR = 2.97, 95%CI: 1.97-4.50, P < 0.01), recessive(OR = 5.26, 95%CI: 1.35-20.50, P = 0.016), overdominant(OR = 2.64, 95%CI: 1.74-4.01, P < 0.01), and log-additive models(OR = 2.78, 95%CI: 1.91-4.06, P < 0.01). The haplotype formed by the minor alleles of the CYP2E1*5B(C) and CYP2E1*6(A) polymorphisms was associated with SCRC(P = 0.002). However, the CYP1A1 *2A, CYP1A1 *2C, EPHX1 Tyr113 His and EPHX1 His139 Arg polymorphisms were not associated with SCRC.CONCLUSION In conclusion, the results demonstrated that CYP2E1*5B and CYP2E1*6 minor alleles play a role in the development of SCRC. | Glaucia Maria M Fernandes Anelise Russo Marcela Alcantara Proenca Nathalia Fernanda Gazola Gabriela Helena Rodrigues Patrícia Matos Biselli-Chicote Ana Elizabete Silva Joao Gomes Netinho érika Cristina Pavarino Eny Maria Goloni-Bertollo | 2016 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,45: | 1

Unlocking the in vitro anti-Trypanosoma cruzi activity of halophyte plants from the southern Portugal显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the in vitro anti-Trypanosoma cruzi(T.cruzi) activity of organic extracts prepared from halophyte species collected in the southern coast of Portugal(Algarve),and chemically characterize the most active samples. Methods:Acetone, dichloromethane and methanol extracts were prepared from 31 halophyte species and tested in vitro against trypomastigotes and intracellular amastigotes of the Tulahuen strain of T.cruzi.The most active extract was fractionated by preparative HPLC-DAD,affording 11 fractions. The most selective fraction was fully characterized by 1H-NMR.Results:From 94 samples tested, one was active, namely the root dichloromethane extract of Juncus acutus(IC50 < 20 μg/mL).This extract was fractionated by HPLC,affording 11 fractions, one of them containing only a pure compound(juncunol),and tested for anti-parasitic activity.Fraction 8(IC50 = 4.1 μg/mL) was the most active, and was further characterized by 1H-NMR.The major compounds were phenanthrenes,9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes and benzocoumarins. Conclusion:Our results suggest that the compounds identified in fraction 8 are likely responsible for the observed anti parasitic activity.Further research is in progress aiming to isolate and identify the specific active molecules. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the in vitro anti T.cruzi activity of halophyte species. | Marta Oliveira Policarpo Ademar Sales Junior Maria Joao Rodrigues Marina DellaGreca Luisa Barreira Silvane Maria Fonseca Murta Alvaro Jose Romanha Luisa Custodio | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,8: | 1
