Esophageal cancer:Epidemiology, risk factors and screening显示文摘More than 600,000 people are diagnosed with esophageal cancer(EC)every year globally, and the five-year survival rate of EC is less than 20%.Two common histological subtypes of EC,esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)and esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC),have great geographical variations in incidence rates.About half of the world’s EC was diagnosed in China and a majority of which belong to ESCC.Globally, the overall incidence rate of EC is decreasing. In some high-risk Asian regions, such as China, the incidence rate of ESCC has generally declined, potentially due to economic growth and improvement of diet habits. In some European high-income countries and the United States, the decline is mainly attributed to the decrease in smoking and drinking. The risk factors of EC are not well understood, and the importance of environmental and genetic factors in the pathogenesis is also unclear. The incidence and mortality of advanced EC can be reduced through early diagnosis and screening.White light endoscopy is still the gold standard in the current screening technology. This article reviews the epidemiology, risk factors, and screening strategies of EC in recent years to help researchers determine the most effective management strategies to reduce the risk of EC. | Jiang Li Jianguo Xu Yadi Zheng Ya Gao Siyi He He Li Kaiyong Zou Ni Li Jinhui Tian Wanqing Chen Jie He | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,5: | 12

Development and utilization of a new chemically-induced soybean library with a high mutation density显示文摘Mutagenized populations have provided important materials for introducing variation and identifying gene function in plants. In this study, an ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS)-induced soybean(Glycine max) population, consisting of 21,600 independent M_2 lines, was developed.Over 1,000 M_(4(5))families, with diverse abnormal phenotypes for seed composition, seed shape, plant morphology and maturity that are stably expressed across different environments and generations were identified. Phenotypic analysis of the population led to the identification of a yellow pigmentation mutant, gyl, that displayed significantly decreased chlorophyll(Chl) content and abnormal chloroplast development. Sequence analysis showed that gyl is allelic to Minn Gold, where a different single nucleotide polymorphism variation in the Mg-chelatase subunit gene(ChlI1a) results in golden yellow leaves. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence marker was developed and may be applied to marker-assisted selection for the golden yellow phenotype in soybean breeding. We show that the newly developed soybean EMS mutant population has potential for functional genomics research and genetic improvement in soybean. | Zhongfeng Li Lingxue Jiang Yansong Ma Zhongyan Wei Huilong Hong Zhangxiong Liu Jinhui Lei Ying Liu Rongxia Guan Yong Guo Longguo Jin Lijuan Zhang Yinghui Li Yulong Ren Wei He Ming Liu Nang Myint Phyu Sin Htwe Lin Liu Bingfu Guo Jian Song Bing Tan Guifeng Liu Maiquan Li Xianli Zhang Bo Liu Xuehui Shi Sining Han Sunan Hua Fulai Zhou Lili Yu Yanfei Li Shuang Wang Jun Wang Ruzhen Chang Lijuan Qiu | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2017,59,1: | 6
Comparison of developmental toxicity of different surface modified CdSe/ZnS QDs in zebrafish embryos显示文摘Quantum dots(QDs)are new types of nanomaterials.Few studies have focused on the effect of different surface modified QDs on embryonic development.Herein,we compared the in vivo toxicity of Cd Se/Zn S QDs with carboxyl(-COOH)and amino(-NH 2)modification using zebrafish embryos. After exposure, the two Cd Se/Zn S QDs decreased the survival rate, hatching rate, and embryo movement of zebrafish. Moreover,we found QDs attached to the embryo membrane before hatching and the eyes, yolk and heart after hatching. The attached amount of carboxyl QDs was more.Consistently, the Cd content in embryos and larvae was higher in carboxyl QD-treatment.We further observed that the two QDs caused zebrafish pericardial edema and cardiac dysfunction. In line with it,both carboxyl and amino QDs upregulated the transcription levels of cardiac development-related genes, and the levels were higher in carboxyl QD-treated groups.Furthermore, the chelator of Cd^2+diethylene triamine pentacetate acid could partially rescued the developmental toxicity caused by the two types of QDs suggesting that both the nature of QDs and the release of Cd^2+contribute to the developmental toxicity. In conclusion, the two Cd Se/ZnS QDs have developmental toxicity and affect the cardiac development, and the carboxyl QDs is more toxic possibly due to the higher affinity and more release to embryos and larvae. Our study provides new knowledge that the surface functional modification of QDs is critical on the development on aquatic species, which is beneficial to develop and applicate QDs more safely and environmentfriendly. | Naying Zheng Jinhui Yan Wang Qian Chao Song Zhenghong Zuo Chengyong He | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,2: | 3

Structure-tissue exposure/selectivity relationship(STR) correlates with clinical efficacy/safety显示文摘Drug optimization, which improves drug potency/specificity by structure-activity relationship(SAR) and drug-like properties, is rigorously performed to select drug candidates for clinical trials. However, the current drug optimization may overlook the structure-tissue exposure/selectivity-relationship(STR) in disease-targeted tissues vs. normal tissues, which may mislead the drug candidate selection and impact the balance of clinical efficacy/toxicity. In this study, we investigated the STR in correlation with observed clinical efficacy/toxicity using seven selective estrogen receptor modulators(SERMs) that have similar structures, same molecular target, and similar/different pharmacokinetics. The results showed that drug’s plasma exposure was not correlated with drug’s exposures in the target tissues(tumor, fat pad, bone, uterus),while tissue exposure/selectivity of SERMs was correlated with clinical efficacy/safety. Slight structure modifications of four SERMs did not change drug’s plasma exposure but altered drug’s tissue exposure/selectivity.Seven SERMs with high protein binding showed higher accumulation in tumors compared to surrounding normal tissues, which is likely due to tumor EPR effect of protein-bound drugs. These suggest that STR alters drug’s tissue exposure/selectivity in disease-targeted tissues vs. normal tissues impacting clinical efficacy/toxicity. Drug optimization needs to balance the SAR and STR in selecting drug candidate for clinical trial to improve success of clinical drug development. | Wei Gao Hongxiang Hu Lipeng Dai Miao He Hebao Yuan Huixia Zhang Jinhui Liao Bo Wen Yan Li Maria Palmisano Mohamed Dit Mady Traore Simon Zhou Duxin Sun | 2022 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,5: | 1

SlWRKY30 and SlWRKY81 synergistically modulate tomato immunity to Ralstonia solanacearum by directly regulating SlPR-STH2显示文摘Bacterial wilt is a devastating disease of tomato(Solanum lycopersicum)caused by Ralstonia solanacearum that severely threatens tomato production.Group III WRKY transcription factors(TFs)are implicated in the plant response to pathogen infection;however, their roles in the response of tomato to R.solanacearum infection(RSI)remain largely unexplored. Here,we report the crucial role of SlWRKY30,a group III SlWRKY TF,in the regulation of tomato response to RSI.SlWRKY30 was strongly induced by RSI.SlWRKY30 overexpression reduced tomato susceptibility to RSI,and also increased H2O2 accumulation and cell necrosis, suggesting that SlWRKY30 positively regulates tomato resistance to RSI.RNA sequencing and reverse transcription–quantitative PCR revealed that SlWRKY30 overexpression significantly upregulated pathogenesis-related protein(SlPR-STH2)genes SlPR-STH2a,SlPR-STH2b,SlPR-STH2c,and SlPR-STH2d(hereafter SlPR-STH2a/b/c/d)in tomato, and these SlPR-STH2 genes were directly targeted by SlWRKY30.Moreover,four group III WRKY proteins(SlWRKY52,SlWRKY59,SlWRKY80,and SlWRKY81)interacted with SlWRKY30,and SlWRKY81 silencing increased tomato susceptibility to RSI.Both SlWRKY30 and SlWRKY81 activated SlPR-STH2a/b/c/d expression by directly binding to their promoters.Taking these results together,SlWRKY30 and SlWRKY81 synergistically regulate resistance to RSI by activating SlPR-STH2a/b/c/d expression in tomato. Our results also highlight the potential of SlWRKY30 to improve tomato resistance to RSI via genetic manipulations. | Fengfeng Dang Jinhui Lin Yajing Li Ruoyun Jiang Yudong Fang Fei Ding Shuilin He Yanfeng Wang | 2023 | Horticulture Research2023,10,5: | 1
Structural Characteristics of Lycium ruthenicum Community & Soil Properties on Different Types of Desert Rangeland in the Lower Reaches of Shiyang River显示文摘[Objectives] To study structural characteristics of Lycium ruthenicum community and soil properties on different types of desert rangeland in the lower reaches of Shiyang River, and provide theoretical basis for ecological protection and management in the lower reaches of Shiyang River. [Methods] One-way ANOVA analysis and correlation analysis were carried out with the aid of SPSS19.0 software for different types of desert rangeland soils. [Results](i) Among the communities surveyed, there are 31 species belonging to 9 families and 28 genera, including 12 shrub plants, 8 perennial herbs and 11 annual herbs. There are more single genus, occupying 50% of total genus. L. ruthenicum occupies an important position in the community with relatively higher importance value. It plays a dominated role in the community.(ii) In the soils with depths of 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm in different types of desert rangeland, the organic carbon contents in the saline alkali soil were the highest, with the values of 1.08%, 0.98%, 0.89% and 0.972%, respectively. Compared with that in sandy land, soil organic carbon in saline alkali land(0-10 cm) had the significant difference(P<0.05), available soil potassium in saline alkali land(except the depth of 20-40 cm) and the total phosphorus content in saline alkali land(0-10 cm) had the significant difference(P<0.05), the total soil nitrogen, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus and the total potassium content had no significant difference(P>0.05). Soil organic carbon, available soil phosphorus in saline alkali land, total soil potassium on sand dune and total soil phosphorus in saline alkali land and gravel in different soil layers of the same type of desert rangeland had distinct aggregation effect.(iii) The soil microbial biomass in different types of desert rangeland displayed from high to low as saline alkali land > sandy land > fixed and semi fixed sandy land > gravel. The discrepancy of soil microbial biomass varied in different types of desert rangeland. The four soil enzyme activities in salinization was the highest. Soil invertase activity in saline alkali land in different soil layers were the highest. For different soil layers in the same type of desert rangeland, soil microbial biomass and invertase decreased gradually with the deepening of soil layer.(iv) There was a significant positive correlation between soil organic matter and microbial biomass carbon, microbial biomass nitrogen, phosphatase and sucrase(P<0.01), and a significant positive correlation with urease and catalase(P<0.05). Phosphorus content was significant positively correlated with urease, phosphatase and invertase(P<0.01), and positively correlated with microbial biomass carbon(P<0.05). Soil available potassium content was significant positively correlated with microbial and phosphatase(P<0.01). [Conclusions] The species of L. ruthenicum community and soil properties on different types of desert rangeland in the lower reaches of Shiyang River clearly shows that most species belong to a few families, and a few species belong to most families, and many species are single genus or single family. Soil organic carbon, soil available phosphorus, total phosphorus, soil microbial biomass and enzyme activity in salinization land had distinct surface aggregation effects, so salinization land provides excellent growth environment for the growth of L. ruthenicum, which is of great significance for the protection of L. ruthenicum population. | Chunxiu GUO Lide WANG Fanglan HE Junmei MA Jinhui LI Fubo AN Hongbo YUAN Kailin LIU | 2019 | Medicinal Plant2019,10,2: | 1

Membranes for extracorporeal membrane oxygenator(ECMO): History, preparation, modification and mass transfer显示文摘Extracorporeal membrane oxygenator(ECMO) has been in development for nearly 70 years, and the oxygenator has gone through several generations of optimizations, with advances from bubble oxygenators to membrane oxygenators leading to more and more widespread use of ECMO. Membrane is the core of a ECMO system and the working mechanism of membrane oxygenator depends on the membrane material, from PDMS flat membrane to PMP hollow fiber membrane, which have experienced three generations.Blood compatibility on the surface of the membrane material is very vital, which directly determines the use duration of the oxygenator and can reduce the occurrence of complications. The mechanism of mass transfer is the basis of oxygenator operation and optimization. This review summarizes the membrane development history and preparation technology, modification approaches and mass transfer theory in the process of oxygen and blood exchange. We hoped that this review will provide more ideas for the study of gas blood exchange membrane. | Ting He Songhong Yu Jinhui He Dejian Chen Jie Li Hongjun Hu Xingrui Zhong Yawei Wang Zhaohui Wang Zhaoliang Cui | 2022 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2022,35,9: | 0
Role of phosphorus on the biogeochemical behavior of cadmium in the contaminated soil under leaching and pot experiments显示文摘Phosphorus(P)is involved in various biochemical reactions in plant growth,so it is beneficial to plants growing in soils contaminated by metals, including cadmium(Cd).However, few studies have reported on the mechanistic roles of P in mitigating Cd toxicity to ryegrass root, and especially in alleviating the disruption of the mitochondrial function of living cells. In this study, the physiological and biochemical mechanisms associated with ryegrass growth under various Cd and P treatments were investigated using leaching and pot systems. The concentration of Cd in soil leachates showed a significantly positive relationship with redox potential(P<0.05),but negative relationship(P<0.05)with leachate pH values and dissolved organic carbon(DOC),indicating that exogenous P addition(as H_(2)PO_(4)*)may decrease Cd leaching from contaminated soil.Compared to the control(without P addition),the cumulative Cd content was reduced by 53.3%and 64.5%in the soil leachate with exogenous P application(20 mg/L and 80 mg/L),respectively.Notably,application of P decreased the Cd concentrations in the symplastic fractions and increased the Cd concentrations in the apoplastic fractions in root tips, which may help to alleviate Cd stress to the protoplast. Moreover, exogenous P was found to play a positive role in mitochondrial function and Ca^(2+)variation in root cells under Cd stress, which provides novel insights into the mechanisms of exogenous P in alleviating plant Cd injury. | Hui Jia YifanWu Mengqi Zhang Jinhui Ye Daolin Du He Wang | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,3: | 0
PnMYB4 negatively modulates saponin biosynthesis in Panax notoginseng through interplay with PnMYB1显示文摘Saponins are the main triterpenoid ingredients from Panax notoginseng,a well-known Chinese medicine, and are important sources for producing drugs to prevent and treat cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases. However, the transcriptional regulatory network of saponin biosynthesis in P.notoginseng is largely unknown. In the present study we demonstrated that one R2R3-MYB transcription factor, designated PnMYB4,acts as a repressor of saponin accumulation.Suppression of PnMYB4 in P.notoginseng calli significantly increased the saponin content and the expression level of saponin biosynthetic genes.PnMYB4 directly bound to the promoters of key saponin biosynthetic genes, including PnSS,PnSE,and PnDS,to repress saponin accumulation.PnMYB4 and the activator PnMYB1 could inter-acted with PnbHLH,which is a positive regulator of saponin biosynthesis,to modulate the biosynthesis of saponin.PnMYB4 competed with PnMYB1 for binding to PnbHLH,repressing activation of the promoters of saponin structural genes induced by the PnMYB1-PnbHLH complex. Our study reveals that a complex regulatory module of saponin biosynthesis is associated with positive and negative MYB transcriptional regulators and provides a theoretical basis for improving the content of saponins and efficacy of P.notoginseng. | Jinhui Man Yue Shi Yuying Huang Xiaoqin Zhang Xin Wang Shanhu Liu Gaojie He Kelu An Dongran Han Xiaohui Wang Shengli Wei | 2023 | Horticulture Research2023,10,8: | 0
