2Fluidized-Bed Bioreactor Applications for Biological Wastewater Treatment: A Review of Research and Developments显示文摘污水处理是保护环境和人类健康的重要过程。目前,最经济有效的污水处理方法为生物处理法,如运行时间较长的活性污泥法。然而,随着人口的增长,对新型高效污水处理技术的需求越来越迫切,流态化技术虽然已展示出能够提高许多化学与生化处理过程的效率,但尚未在大型污水处理过程中得到广泛的应用。循环流化床生物反应器(CFBBR)污水处理技术的研究始于加拿大西安大略大学,在该技术中,载体颗粒表面会形成一层含细菌与其他微生物的生物膜,并在反应器中呈流化状态;流态化固有的良好混合和质量传递特性,使得该技术在生活污水和工业污水处理过程中均具优势。实验室阶段和中试阶段的研究均证实了CFBBR可去除污水中90%以上的碳源、80%以上的氮源,且污泥产量少于活性污泥法的1/3。由于该技术的高效性,CFBBR还可被用于传统方法难以处理的高有机碳污水处理,且具有占地面积小的优势。同时,CFBBR在动态负荷试验(进水量和进水浓度变化)中也展现了良好的抗冲击和恢复性能。总的来说,CFBBR是一种高效的污水处理方法,可在较短的水力停留时间和较小的反应器体积内处理更多的污水。此外,该反应器的紧凑设计将有助于在偏僻地区建造独立的污水处理系统。Michael J. 3Circulating turbulent fluidization-A new fluidization regime or just a transitional phenomenon显示文摘While circulating fluidized bed(CFB)reactor has many advantages over the more conventional turbulent fluidized bed(TFB)reactor,it does at least have one significant shortcoming-the rather dilute solids volume concentration in CFB reactor gives rise to less ideal reaction intensity.On the other hand,while having higher reaction intensity,TFB reactor has one fatal drawback of particle back-mixing,making it not suitable for certain reactions such as catalytic reaction where the catalyst requires frequent regeneration.This paper describes some key issues in the development of a circulating turbulent fluidized bed(CTFB) reactor that combines the advantages of both TFB and CFB,that is,to have the high reaction intensity as in TFB but and also to have a suppressed solids back-mixing as in CFB due to a continuous net upflow of solids flux through the bed.Experimental results show enough evidence to suggest that a new fluidization regime is formed,the characteristics of which appears to be distinct from those observed in a regular TFB and from those in either the bottom or the upper sections of regular CFB and/or high-density CFB(HDCFB).Fundamentally,the difference is that particle-particle interaction(collision)dominates the motion of particles in CTFB and TFB,while gas-particle interaction(drag force)is the key element that determines the two phase flow in CFB including HDCFB.Jesse Zhu 2010Particuology2010,8,6:12
4Dry powder platform for pulmonary drug delivery显示文摘The phenomenon of particle interaction involved in pulmonary drug delivery belongs to a wide variety of disciplines of particle technology, in particular, fluidization. This paper reviews the basic concepts of pulmonary drug delivery with references to fluidization research, in particular, studies on Geldart group C powders. Dry powder inhaler device-formulation combination has been shown to be an effective method for delivering drugs to the lung for treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis. Even with advanced designs, however, delivery efficiency is still poor mainly due to powder dispersion problems which cause poor lung deposition and high dose variability. Drug particles used in current inhalers must be 1-5 m in diameter for effective deposition in small-diameter airways and alveoli. These powders are very cohesive, have poor flowability, and are difficult to disperse into aerosol due to cohesion arising from van der Waals attraction. 6Fluidization of nano and sub-micron powders using mechanical vibration显示文摘The fluidization behavior of nano and sub-micron powders belonging to group C of Geldart's classification was studied in a mechanically vibrated fiuidized bed(vibro-fiuidized bed) at room temperature. Pretreated air was used as the fiuidizing gas whereas SiO2,Al2O3,TiO2,ZrSi,BaSO4 were solid particles. Mechanical vibration amplitudes were 0.1,0.25,0.35,0.45 mm,while the frequencies were 5,20,30,40 Hz to investigate the effects of frequency and amplitude of mechanical vibration on minimum fiuidization velocity,bed pressure drop,bed expansion,and the agglomerate size and size distribution. A novel technique was employed to determine the apparent minimum fluidization velocity from pressure drop signals. Richardson-Zaki equation was employed as nano-particles showed fiuid like behavior when fiuidized. The average size of agglomerates formed on top of the bed was smaller than those at the bottom. Size distribution of agglomerates on top was also more uniform compared to those near the distributor. Larger agglomerates at the bottom of the bed formed a small fraction of the bed particles. Average size of submicron agglomerates decreased with increasing the frequency of vibration,however nano particles were less sensitive to change in vibration frequency. 7Developments in the understanding of gas–solid contact efficiency in the circulating fluidized bed riser reactor:A review显示文摘In the last several decades, circulating fluidized bed reactors have been studied in many aspects including hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer and gas–solid two phase contacting. However, despite the abundance of review papers on hydrodynamics, there is no summary paper on gas–solid contact efficiency to date, especially on high density circulating fluidized beds(CFBs). This paper gives an introduction to, and a review of the measurement of contact efficiency in circulating fluidized bed riser. Firstly, the popular testing method of contact efficiency including the method of heating transfer experiment and hot model reaction are discussed, then previous published papers are reviewed based on the discussed methods. Some key results of the experimental work are described and discussed. Gas–solid contact efficiency is affected by the operating conditions as well as the particle size distribution. The result of the contact efficiency shows that the CFB riser is far away from an ideal plug flow reactor due to the characteristics of hydrodynamics in the riser. 8Wavelet denoising and nonlinear analysis of solids concentration signal in circulating fluidized bed riser显示文摘Particles,particle aggregates,and reactor walls complicate the dynamic microstructures of circulating fluidized beds(CFBs).Using local solids concentration data from a 10-m-high and 76.2-mm-inner-diameter riser with FCC(Fluid Catalytic Cracking)particles(dp=67μm,ρp=1500 kg/m^3),this paper presents an improved denoising process for use before nonlinear chaos analysis.Using the soft-threshold denoising method in the wavelet domain with experimental empty bed signals as base data to estimate the denoising threshold,an efficient denoising algorithm was proposed and used for the dynamic signals in CFBs.Analysis shows that for the local solids concentration time series,high-frequency fluctuations may be one of the system properties,while noise interference can also make a low-frequency contribution.An exact denoising method is needed in such cases.The correlation dimension and Kolmogorov entropy were calculated using denoised data and the results showed that the particle behavior in the CFB is highly complex.Generally,two correlation dimensions coexist in a low-flux CFB.The first correlation dimension is low and corresponds to small-scale fluctuations that reveal a high-frequency pseudo-periodic movement,but the second correlation dimension is high and corresponds to large-scale fluctuations that indicate multi-frequency movements,including particle aggregation and breakage.At the same axial level,the first correlation dimensions change slightly with radial position,and the main tendency is high at the center but slightly lower near the wall.However,the second correlation dimensions show large changes along the radial direction,are again high in the core region,and after r/R≥0.6(r as radial position,R as radius of the riser),the dimensions clearly drop down.This indicates that the particle behavior is more complex and has higher degrees of freedom at the center,but clusters near the wall are restrained to some degree because of wall effects.Li-Li Gu Yawen Zhang Jesse Zhu 2020Particuology2020,18,2:5

10Growth inhibition and apoptosis induction by alternol in pancreatic carcinoma cells显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of alternol on pancreatic cancer cells.METHODS: Pancreatic cancer cells PANC-1 and Bx PC3 were treated with various concentrations of alternol for 24, 48 and 72 h. Cell proliferation was measured by cell counting. Cell cycle distribution and mitochondrial membrane potential were determined by flow cytometry. Apoptosis was determined by a Td T-mediated d UTP nick end labeling assay and Hoechst staining. Expression of caspase 3, Bcl-2, p53 and p21 was measured by western blotting.RESULTS: Alternol showed dose- and time-dependent inhibition of the proliferation of PANC-1 and Bx PC3 cells in vitro. Alternol induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at S phase and decreased mitochondrial membrane potential. 13Numerical simulation of counter-current flow field in the downcomer of a liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed显示文摘A comprehensive study on the hydrodynamics in the downcomer of a liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed(LSCFB) is crucial in the control and optimization of the extraction process using an ion exchange LSCFB.A computational fluid dynamics model is proposed in this study to simulate the counter-current two-phase flow in the downcomer of the LSCFB.The model is based on the Eulerian-Eulerian approach incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow.The predicted results agree well with our earlier experimental data.Furthermore,it is shown that the bed expansion of the particles in the downcomer is directly affected by the superficial liquid velocity in downcomer and solids circulation rate.The model also predicts the residence time of solid particles in the downcomer using a pulse technique.It is demonstrated that the increase in the superficial liquid velocity decreases the solids dispersion in the downcomer of the LSCFB.Abbas Dadashi Chao Zhang Jingxu(Jesse)Zhu 2015Particuology2015,13,4:3
14Evaluation of the effect of wall boundary conditions on numerical simulations of circulating fluidized beds显示文摘A computational fluid dynamics(CFD) modeling of the gas-solids two-phase flow in a circulating fluidized bed(CFB) riser is carried out. The Eularian-Eularian method with the kinetic theory of granular flow is used to solve the gas-solids two-phase flow in the CFB riser. The wall boundary condition of the riser is defined based on the Johnson and Jackson wall boundary theory(Johnson & Jackson, 1987) with specularity coefficient and particle-wall restitution coefficient. The numerical results show that these two coefficients' n the wall boundary condition play a major role in the predicted solids lateral velocity, which affects the solid particle distribution in the CFB riser. And the effect of each of the two coefficients on the solids distribution also depends on the other one. 16A core-shell composite pigment with rutile TiO_(2) intensification for UV inhibition显示文摘Organic pigments generlly have bright colors but poor ultraviolet(UV)resistance.To improve the UV for UVinhibition is proposed by afacile sol-gel method inthis work.Acore-shellstructure,witha homo resistance and extend the applications,a core-shell composite pigment with rutile Tio intensification geneous sol-gel TiO_(2) shell containing additional nanosized rutile TiO2 particles and with the pigment as the core,was established taking advantage of UV resistance of TiO2 and binding ability of sol-gel.While the sol-gel TiO2 shell alone has already shown obvious ultraviolet shielding effect,as tested over different sol-gel aging times and Tio2 loadings,the UV resistance of the fluorescent pigments was further enhanced by binding the nanosized rutile TiO2 in the sol-gel shell At a sol-gel TiO2 to rutile TiO2 ratio of 2:1,the UV exposure time is extended about eight times compared with that of the original pigment and twice as that of the modifed pigment with pure sol-gel TiO2 for the same color change.Therefore,the novel core-shell composite pigment intensified with nanosized rutile Tio2 particles is proved to be effcient in improving the uV resistance of organic pigments.Xiao Lv Baowei Yan Yuanyuan Shao Haiping Zhang Hui Zhang Jesse Zhu 2022Particuology2022,20,8:2
17Flow properties of fine powders in powder coating显示文摘Three types of nanoparticles and their combinations were blended into a fine powder,which has been used in the powder coating industry.To study their effects on flow properties,the modified powder samples were characterized using a variety of techniques that tested the powder under different powder states ranging from dynamic to static.It was found that all three nanoparticles improved the flow properties of the powder to some degree,though the amounts of the nanoparticles needed were different depending on their physical properties.Secondly,inconsistency among these powder characterization techniques was also found.This is attributed to the different states of the powder samples during a measurement including dynamic,dynamic-static and static states.It was confirmed that characterization techniques which test the flow properties of a powder under all three states are needed to fully describe the flow properties of the powder.Finally,the effects of combinations of nanoparticles were explored,and it was found that combinations of nanoparticles can intensify,weaken or combine the effects of their component nanoparticles.The effects of nanoparticle combinations are not a simple summation of the effects of their component nanoparticles.Jesse Zhu 2010Particuology2010,8,1:2
