1Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and thyroid dysfunction:A systematic review显示文摘Thyroid hormones are totally involved in the regulation of body weight, lipid metabolism, and insulin resistance. Therefore it is anticipated that thyroid hormones may have a role in the pathogenesis of non alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and non alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). In this study, we reviewed the current literature on the association between thyroid dysfunction and NAFLD/NASH. A search for English language medical literature reporting an association between thyroid dysfunction and NAFLD/NASH in humans was conducted across PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and Scopus in August, 2013. Out of 140 studies initially identified through the search, 11 relevant articles were included in the final review. Thyroid dysfunctions in the form of overt or subclinical hypothyroidism are prevalent among patients with NAFLD/NASH. Hypothyroidism appears to be an independent risk factor for NAFLD/NASH in some studies; however, other newly published studies failed to find such anassociation. The results of the studies on the role of thyroid abnormalities in NAFLD/NASH are inconsistent, and further research is recommended to determine the relationship between hypothyroidism and NAFLD/NASH and the underlying mechanisms.Ahad Eshraghian Alireza Hamidian Jahromi 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,25:15
2Decellularized peripheral nerve grafts by a modified protocol for repair of rat sciatic nerve injury显示文摘Studies have shown that acellular nerve xenografts do not require immunosuppression and use of acellular nerve xenografts for repair of peripheral nerve injury is safe and effective.However,there is currently no widely accepted standard chemical decellularization method.The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficiency of bovine-derived nerves decellularized by the modified Hudson’s protocol in the repair of rat sciatic nerve injury.In the modified Hudson’s protocol,Triton X-200 was replaced by Triton X-100,and DNase and RNase were used to prepare accelular nerve xenografts.The efficiency of bovine-derived nerves decellularized by the modified Hudson’s protocol was tested in vitro by hematoxylin&eosin,Alcian blue,Masson’s trichrome,and Luxol fast blue staining,immunohistochemistry,and biochemical assays.The decellularization approach excluded cells,myelin,and axons of nerve xenografts,without affecting the organization of nerve xenografts.The decellularized nerve xenograft was used to bridge a 7 mm-long sciatic nerve defect to evaluate its efficiency in the repair of peripheral nerve injury.At 8 weeks after transplantation,sciatic function index in rats subjected to transplantation of acellular nerve xenograft was similar to that in rats undergoing transplantation of nerve allograft.Morphological analysis revealed that there were a large amount of regenerated myelinated axons in acellular nerve xenograft;the number of Schwann cells in the acellular nerve xenograft was similar to that in the nerve allograft.These findings suggest that acellular nerve xenografts prepared by the modified Hudson’s protocol can be used for repair of peripheral nerve injury.This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee,Research and Technology Chancellor of Guilan University of Medical Sciences,Iran(approval No.IR.GUMS.REC.1395.332)on February 11,2017.Arash Zaminy Sara Sayad-Fathi Farshad Moharrami Kasmaie Zohreh Jahromi Adib Zendedel 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,6:6
3The plurality effect of topographical irregularities on site seismic response显示文摘Topography can have signifi cant eff ects on seismic ground response during an earthquake because topographic irregularities cause considerable diff erences between the seismic waves emitted by the source and the waves reaching the ground surface. When a seismic motion happens in a topographically irregular area, seismic waves are trapped and refl ected between the topographic features. Therefore, the interaction between topographies can amplify seismic ground response. In order to reveal how interaction between topographies infl uences seismic response, several numerical fi nite element studies have been performed by using the ABAQUS program. The results show that topographic features a greater distance between the seismic source and the site would cause greater seismic motion amplifi cation and is perceptible for the hills far away from the source and the ridges. 5On the role of topographic ampli fi cation in seismic slope instabilities显示文摘Surface wave generation due to body wave propagation near ground surface has been discussed in the literature.This phenomenon,typically occurring in topographic changing areas,along with its interaction with body waves(SV),decreases precision of formulas for evaluation of slope displacement.This signi fi cant fact caused the researchers not only to investigate the combined surface and SV waves motion pattern,but also to consider its effect on structures built on the slopes.In order to reveal the phenomenon,several fi nite element numerical studies have been performed by ABAQUS programme.Besides,two physical model slopes simulating the landslide occurrence have been constructed and tested by shaking table device.The results of induced and calculated accelerations obtained by two approaches have been compared and Rayleigh wave generation has been proved.Furthermore,the slope displacements have been calculated by various empirical methods and the results were compared with numerical ones.The results proved that in order to increase the precision of empirical formulas for displacement prediction,surface wave effect should be taken into account.Finally,a concept of'effective depth of sur fi cial ampli fi cation'is introduced and its effect on dynamic slope stability is analysed.Fardin Jafarzadeh Mohammad Mahdi Shahrabi Hadi Farahi Jahromi 2015Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2015,7,2:3

7Antioxidant effects of aqueous extract of Salep on Paraquat-induced rat liver injury显示文摘AIM To evaluate the effects of aqueous extract of Salep on Paraquat-mediated liver injury.METHODS In this experimental study, 56 adult male Wistar rats were divided randomly to 7 groups as control, sham, and 5 experimental groups. In control group, rats did not receive any substance during experiment. In Sham group, rats were given distilled water according to their body weight and in experimental groups, Paraquat alone and with different doses of Salep aqueous extract(40, 80, 160 and 320 mg/kg) was given intraperitoneal daily for 14 d. After that, liver biochemical parameter and histologic changes were analyzed and compared in different groups. RESULTS Paraquat compared to control and sham groups, significantly(P < 0.05) increased serum level of alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alkaline phosphatase(ALP), bilirubin, malondialdehyde(MDA) and total oxidant capacity(TOC); while level of total protein, albumin and total antioxidant capacity(TAC) were remarkably decreased by Paraquat. Salep at doses of 80, 160 and 320 mg/kg significantly decreased serum level of ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin, MDA and TOC and significantly increased total protein, albumin and TAC level as compared to Paraquat exposed group in dose dependent manner. Aqueous extract of Salep at doses of 40 mg/kg made no significant changes in serum level of mentioned biochemical parameters. Liver microscopic observation revealed that Paraquat could cause hepatocyte necrosis, degenerative changes, proliferation and activation of Kupffer cells(sporadically) which were reduced by Salep treatment.
