| 1 | Glucose metabolism in gastric cancer:The cutting-edge显示文摘Glucose metabolism in gastric cancer cells differs from that of normal epithelial cells. Upregulated aerobic glycolysis(Warburg effect) in gastric cancer meeting the demands of cell proliferation is associated with genetic mutations, epigenetic modification and proteomic alteration. Understanding the mechanisms of aerobic glycolysis may contribute to our knowledge of gastric carcinogenesis. Metabolomic studies offer novel, convenient and practical tools in the search for new biomarkers for early detection, diagnosis, prognosis, and chemosensitivity prediction of gastric cancer. Interfering with the process of glycolysis in cancer cells may provide a new and promising therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer. | 2 | Helicobacter pylori infection in subjects negative for high titer serum antibody显示文摘AIM To investigate the clinicopathological features of the patients testing negative for high titer serum antiHelicobacter pylori(H. pylori) antibody.METHODS The antibody titers were measured using antigens derived from Japanese individuals. ^(13)C-urea breath test-positive individuals were defined as having H. pylori infection. We investigated the demographic characteristics, laboratory data, endoscopic findings including Kyoto classification of gastritis, and histology in negative-high titer patients without H. pylori eradication therapy. Kyoto classification consisted of scores for gastric atrophy, intestinal metaplasia, enlarged folds, nodularity, and redness.RESULTS Of the 136 subjects enrolled, 23(17%) had H. pylori infection. Kyoto classification had an excellent area under the receiver operating characteristics curve(0.886, 95% confidence interval: 0.803-0.968, P = 3.7 × 10^(-20)) for predicting H. pylori infection with a cutoff value of 2. Further, Kyoto classification, H. pylori density, and neutrophil activity had high accuracies(89.7%, 96.3%, and 94.1%, respectively). | 4 | Lysophosphatidic acid transactivates both c-Met and epidermal growth factor receptor, and induces cyclooxygenase-2 expression in human colon cancer LoVo cells显示文摘AIM: To examine whether lysophosphatidic acid (LPA)induces phosphorylation of c-Met and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), both of which have been proposed as prognostic markers of colorectal cancer, and whether LPA induces cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression in human colon cancer cells.METHODS: Using a human colon cancer cell line, LoVo cells, we performed immunoprecipitation analysis,followed by Western blot analysis. We also examined whether LPA induced COX-2 expression, by Western blot analysis.RESULTS: Immunoprecipitation analysis revealed that 10 μmol/L LPA induced tyrosine phosphorylation of c-Met and EGFR in LoVo cells within a few minutes. We found that c-Met tyrosine phosphorylation induced by LPA was not attenuated by pertussis toxin or a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, in marked contrast to the results for EGFR. | 11 | Research on Wet Steam Spontaneous Condensing Flows Considering Phase Transition and Slip显示文摘A new dual-fluid model considering phase transition and velocity slip was proposed in this paper and the Cunningham correction was used in the droplet resistance calculation. This dual-fluid model was applied to the numerical simulations of wet steam flow in a 2D LAVAL nozzle and in the White cascade respectively. The results of two simulations demonstrate that the model is reliable.
