1Efficacy of Valerian Extract on Sleep Quality after Coronary Artery bypass Graft Surgery: A Triple-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial显示文摘Objective:To assess the effect of valerian root extract on the sleep quality of patients after coronary artery bypass graft(CABG)surgery.Methods:The patients who participated in this triple-blind clinical trial were selected by permuted block randomization.The participants were assigned to the valerian(n=36)and placebo(n=36)groups.The valerian group received 530 mg of valerian capsules for 30 nights after CABG surgery,and the placebo group received 530 mg of the placebo capsules containing wheat flour.The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),the prothrombin time(PT)and partial thromboplastin time(PTT)were assessed on four occasions,including the baseline,the 3 rd,14 th and 30 th days following intervention.Results:The odds ratio of worsened sleep quality significantly varied over time(the interaction of time and group)in the valerian group compared to the placebo group in various dimensions including total sleep quality(P=0.001),sleep latency(P<0.01),sleep duration(P=0.020),sleep efficiency(P=0.001)and daytime dysfunction(P=0.025).No significant difference was observed in the alterations of the odds ratio of PT in the two groups over time.(P=0.371).Conclusion:The consumption of oral valerian root extract over 30 nights could significantly improve the patients'sleep quality safely after CABG surgery.Halimeh khaton Zare Elmi Mohammad Gholami Mandana Saki Farzad Ebrahimzadeh 2021Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,27,1:3

4Comparative efficacy of honey 12.5% and chlorhexidine 0.2% mouthwashes on the oropharyngeal bacterial colonization in mechanically-ventilated patients: a randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of honey mouthwash 12.5% and chlorhexidine solution 0.2%to reduce the rate of oropharyngeal bacterial colonization in mechanically-ventilated patients.METHODS: This study was a randomized, single blind, phase Ⅲ controlled clinical trial. Sixty patients newly admitted to internal and trauma Intensive Care Units of the two educational hospitals of Sanandaj city affiliated with Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences were selected by convenience sampling and allocated to two groups of 30 patients using random blocks design. In each group,the mouthwash was applied twice a day for four consecutive days. Swab samples were taken from the mouth and throat of all patients three times a day(pre-intervention, two days, and four days after the intervention) and then the samples were transferred onto the blood agar and eosin methylene blue(EMB) culture plates and investigated for bacterial growth and colonization after 24-48 h.RESULTS: The findings showed that oropharyngeal colonization was not significantly different between the two groups, pre-intervention, two days,and four days after the intervention(P > 0.05). Rinsing with honey mouthwash 12.5% led to the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the fourth day of the intervention in all samples.CONCLUSION: None of the studied solutions contributed to the reduction of oropharyngeal bacterial colonization. 8Antioxidant Activity and Flavonoid Content of Matricaria chamomilla Extracts from Different Populations of Iran显示文摘Matricaria chamomilla is a valuable medicinal plant belonging to the Asteraceae family.Its medicinal and pharmaceutical impacts are correlated to major flavonoid compounds like apigenin.In this investigation,methanolic extracts of M.chamomilla inflorescence gathered from six natural populations were evaluated for their phytochemical content and antioxidant activity.The content of total flavonoid and phenol modified from 3.72 to 7.94 mg g-1 DW and 1.37 to 3.51 mg g-1 DW,respectively.Flavonoid compositions revealed significant differences among six populations,and the highest apigenin(1.27%(w/w))and apigenin-7-glucoside(0.86%(w/w))contents were recognized in MD populations,respectively.Both PCA and Pearson’s correlation analyses revealed total phenol,flavonoid,apigenin and apigenin-7-glucoside were negatively correlated with the IC50 of DPPH activity and EC50 of reducing power.Altitude and precipitation indicated the positive and negative effects on phytochemical contents,respectively.These results can provide a theoretical basis for getting the targeted antioxidant phytochemicals of M.chamomilla for pharmaceutical and food industries,and also give a science for selection of the best population for cell culture and secondary metabolite production in future.Halimeh Hassanpour Vahid Niknam Sedigheh Ahmadi-Sakha Bahareh Haddadi 2020Journal of Botanical Research2020,2,2:0
9Interactive effects of deficit irrigation and vermicompost on yield,quality,and irrigation water use efficiency of greenhouse cucumber显示文摘Water scarcity is the most significant barrier to agricultural development in arid and semi-arid regions.Deficit irrigation is an effective solution for managing agricultural water in these regions.The use of additives such as vermicompost(VC)to improve soil characteristics and increase yield is a popular practice.Despite this,there is still a lack of understanding of the interaction between irrigation water and VC on various crops.This study aimed to investigate the interaction effect of irrigation water and VC on greenhouse cucumber yield,yield components,quality,and irrigation water use efficiency(IWUE).The trials were done in a split-plot design in three replicates in a semi-arid region of southeastern Iran in 2018 and 2019.Three levels of VC in the experiments,i.e.,10(V_(1)),15(V_(2)),and 20 t/hm^(2)(V_(3)),and three levels of irrigation water,i.e.,50%(I_(1)),75%(I_(2)),and 100%(I_(3))of crop water requirement were used.The results showed that the amount of irrigation water,VC,and their interaction significantly affected cucumber yield,yield components,quality,and IWUE in both years.Reducing the amount of irrigation water and VC application rates reduced the weight,diameter,length,and cucumber yield.The maximum yield(175 t/hm^(2))was recorded in full irrigation using 20 t/hm^(2)of VC,while the minimum yield(98 t/hm^(2))was found in I_(1)V_(1)treatment.The maximum and minimum values of IWUE were recorded for I_(1)V_(3)and I_(3)V_(1)treatments as 36.07 and 19.93 kg/(m^(3)•hm^(2)),respectively.Moreover,reducing irrigation amount decreased chlorophyll a and b,but increased vitamin C.However,the maximum carbohydrate and protein contents were obtained in mild water-stressed conditions(I_(2)).Although adding VC positively influenced the value of quality traits,no significant difference was observed between V_(2)and V_(3)treatments.Based on the results,adding VC under full irrigation conditions leads to enhanced yield and IWUE.However,in the case of applying deficit irrigation,adding VC up to a certain level(15 t/hm^(2))increases yield and IWUE,after which the yield begins to decline.Because of the salinity of VC,using a suitable amount of it is a key point to maximize IWUE and yield when applying a deficit irrigation regime.Halimeh PIRI Amir NASERIN Ammar A ALBALASMEH 2022Journal of Arid Land2022,14,11:0
