| 1 | Effect of Ocimum sanctum on the development of protective immunity against Salmonella typhimurium infection through cytokines显示文摘Objective:To investigate the protective role of Ocimum sanctum(O.sanctum) leaves against Salmonella typhim.urium(S.typhimurium) infection in rats by inducing TNF-α,IFN-γ& IL-2 cytokines.Methods:Wistar albino rats were fed with aqueous extract of 0.sanctum leaves using 250 mg/kg body weight dose once a day for 20 consecutive days.Control rats were fed with placebo.Rats were infected with LD50 dose of 5.typhimurium infection and monitored for their survival.Bacterial blood burden in both the groups was compared and numbers of activated peritoneal macrophages were counted.Concentration of TNF-α,IFN-γand IL-2 cytokines in serum during different time intervals was assayed by sandwich ELISA.Results:Rats of control group showed a high mortality rate and had higher bacterial blood burden when compared with O.sanctum extract fed rats.There was a significant increase in the number of S.typhimurium engulfed peritoneal macrophages in the peritoneal fluid of O.sanctum fed animals.The protective control against bacterial infection in O,sanctum fed rats was associated with elevated level of TNF-α,IFN-γand IL-2 cytokines in serum.Conclusions:These findings suggest that orally administered O.sanctum leaves extract effectively enhanced activation in macrophage and lymphocytes,depicted by the elevated serum concentration of TNF-α,IFN-γand IL-2 cytokines,leading to induce a protective resistance against Salmonella typhimurium infection. | Anjana Goel Sandeep Kumar Ashok Kumar Bhatia | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,9: | 2 |
| 2 | Predicting suitable habitat of an invasive weed Parthenium hysterophorus under future climate scenarios in Chitwan Annapurna Landscape,Nepal显示文摘Chitwan-Annapuma Landscape(CHAL)in central Nepal is known for its rich biodiversity and the landscape is expected to provide corridors for species range shift in response to climate change.Environmental assessments have identified biological invasions and other anthropogenic activities as major threats to the biodiversity in the CHAL.One of the rapidly spreading Invasive Alien Plant species(IAPs)in the CHAL is Parthenium hysterophorus L.,a neotropical invasive weed of global significance.This study aimed to investigate the current and future projected suitable habitat of P.hysterophorus in the CHAL using MaxEnt modelling in three'Representative Concentration Pathways'(RCPs 2.6,4.5 and 8.5)corresponding to different greenhouse gases emissiontrajectories for the year 2050 and 2070.A total of 288species occurrence points,six bioclimatic variablesmean diurnal range,isothermality,annual precipitation,precipitation of driest month,precipitation seasonality,precipitation of driest quarter and two topographic variables(aspect and slope)were selected for MaxEnt modelling.Potential range shift in terms of increase or decline in the suitable habitat areas under the projected scenarios were calculated.Slope and annual precipitation were the most important variables that explained the current distribution of P.hysterophorus.Twenty percent of the total area of CHAL was predicted to be suitable habitat for the growth of P.hysterophorus in the current climatic condition.Highest gain in the suitable habitat of this noxious weed was found under RCP 4.5 scenario in 2050 and 2070.whereas there will be a loss in thesuitable habitat under RCP 8.5 scenario in 2050 and2070.Out of four physiographic regions present in CHAL,three regions-Siwalik,Middle Mountain and High Mountain have suitable habitat for P.hysterophorus under current climatic condition.The mountainous region is likely to be affected more than the Siwalik region by further spread of P.fhysteropfhorus in the future under low(RCP 2.6)to medium(RCP 4.5)emission scenarios.The suitable habitat for this weed is likely to increase in the protected areas of mountain regions(Langtang National Park,Annapurna Conservation Area and Manaslu Conservation Area)in the future.The results have revealed a risk of spreading P.hysterophorus from present localities to non-invaded areas in the current and future climatic condition.Such risk needs to be considered by decision makers and resource managers while planning for effective management of this weed to reduce its ecological and economic impacts in the CHAL. | MAHARJAN Seerjana SHRESTHA Bharat Babu JOSHI Mohan Dev DEVKOTA Anjana MUNIAPPAN Rangaswamy ADIGA Abhijin JHA Pramod Kumar | 2019 | Journal of Mountain Science2019,16,10: | 1 |

| 4 | Investigation of fundo-antral reflex in human beings显示文摘AIM: To examine the sensory and motor response(s)of the stomach following fundic distention and to assess whether cholinergic mechanisms influence these responses.METHODS: Fundic tone, gastric sensory responses and antral motility were evaluated in eight healthy volunteers after a probe with two sensors was placed in the antrum and a highly compliant balloon in the fundus. Isobaric balloon distentions were performed with a barostat.Study was repeated in six volunteers after intravenous atropine was given.RESULTS: Fundic distention induced large amplitude antral contractions in all subjects. The area under the curve was higher (P<0.05) during fundic distention.First sensation was reported at 12±4 mmHg,moderate sensation at 18±4 mmHg and discomfort at 21±4 mmHg. Discomfort was associated with a decrease in antral motility. After atropine was given, the area under the curve of pressure waves and fundic tone decreased (P<0.05). | 9 | Immunomodulating property of Ocimum sanctum by regulating the IL-2 production and its mRNA expression using rat's splenocytes显示文摘Objective:To investigate the regulatory effect of aqueous extract of leaves of Ocimum sanctum on IL-2 cytokine production in vivo and in vitro,and the effect of leaves extract on general blood picture including T& B lymphocytes.Methods:For in vivo studies albino Wistar rats were treated with aqueous crude leaves extract of Ocimum sanctum for 20 consecutive days.Spleen cells were harvested and assayed for IL-2 production by using sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and mRNA expression methods.For in vitro study aqueous Ocimum sanctum leaves extract= in different concentrations(25-500μ/mL) was added into culture plates containing ConA stimulated splenocytes.To study the overall effect on blood picture,density gradient purified lymphocytes analysis and conventional methodology for total and differential leukocyte count and hemoglobin level were also done.Results:It indicated that the rats treated with Ocimum sanctum leaves extract had significantly enhanced(P<0.001) ability of spleen cells to secrete IL-2.Investigation in vitro also showed regulation of IL-2 production.Blood study exhibited leucocytosis and augmentation of T& B lymphocytes by 25%approximately.4-5%increase in Hemoglobin value was also noticed.Conclusion:Aqueous Ocimum sanctum leaves extract may have stimulatory effect on T & B lymphocytes particularly on Th 1 subset of lymphocytes as shown by enhancement in IL-2 production. | Anjana Goel Dilip Kumar Singh Sandeep Kumar Ashok Kumar Bhatia | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,1: | 1 |

| 14 | Unusual case of a free anterolateral thigh flap partial necrosis in a COVID-19 positive young male following extremity reconstruction显示文摘Free flap procedure provides an overall success rate of 97%, which decreases to 85% in hypercoagulable states. COVID-19, as a pro-thrombotic disorder, therefore seems detrimental to free flap survival. We encountered a case of unique pattern of free flap partial failure in a young male who underwent extremity reconstruction. The patient was diagnosed as COVID-19 positive on the 3rd day post-reconstruction. The flap survived well for the first 7 days post-operatively, but gradually the skin got necrosed and the subcutaneous fat layer was preserved when debriding.
