| 1 | Phlebotomus papatasi and Meriones libycus as the vector and reservoir host of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Qomrood District,Qom Province,central Iran显示文摘Objective:To determine the sand flies species responsible for most transmission of Leishmania major(L major) to human,as well as to determine the main reservoir hosts of the disease. Methods:Sand flies were collected using sticky papers and mounted in Puri’s medium for species identification.Rodents were trapped by live Sherman traps.Both sand flies and rodents were subjected to molecular methods for detection of leishmanial parasite.Results:Phlebotomus papatasi(P.papatasi) was the common species in outdoor and indoor resting places.Employing PCR technique only three specimens of 150 P.papatasi(2%) were found naturally infected by parasites with a band of 350 bp which is equal to the L major parasite.Forty six rodents were captured by Sherman traps and identified.Microscopic investigation on blood smear of the animals for amastigote parasites revealed 1(3.22%) infected Meriones libycus(M.libycus). Infection of this animal to L.major was confirmed by PCR against rDNA loci of the parasite. | 2 | Climate change and potential distribution of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in Central Iran: Horizon 2030 and 2050显示文摘Objective: To investigate and predict the effects of climate change on the potential distribution of the main vector and reservoir hosts of the disease in Yazd province in the future.Methods: Distribution data for vector and reservoir hosts of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in Yazd province were obtained from earlier studies conducted in the area.MaxEnt ecological niche modeling was used to predict environmental suitability.BCC-CSM1-1(m) model and two climate change scenarios, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 were used for horizons 2030 and 2050 climate projections.Future projections were based on data of a regional climate change model.Results: With both scenarios in 2030 and 2050, the results of jackknife test indicated that the mean temperature of wettest quarter and temperature annual range had the greatest effect on the model for the vector and the reservoir hosts, respectively.Conclusions: The climate conditions are the major determinants of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis incidence rate in Yazd Province.These climate conditions provide favorable habitats for ease transmission of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in this endemic area.Habitats suitability for the vector and reservoir will be expanding in the coming years compared with the current conditions, such that, in horizon 2030 & 2050, the probability of the presence of the vector and reservoir within 38 580 and 37 949 km^2, respectively, from Yazd province is above 60%.Moreover, an increase is predicted in the presence of the vector in the western parts and the reservoir in the northern and central parts of the province in the future.Understanding the role of environmental and bioclimatic factors in zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis occurrence can provide a guide for policy-makers in the creation and implementation of more effective policies for prevention and control. | Babak Shiravand Ahmad Ali Hanafi-Bojd Abbas Ali Dehghani Tafti Mohammad Reza Abai Ali Almodarresi Masoud Mirzaei | 2019 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2019,12,5: | 2 |
| 3 | Phytochemistry and larvicidal activity of Eucalyptus camaldulensis against malaria vector,Anopheles stephensi显示文摘Objective:To determine phytochemistry and larvicidal activity of Eucalyptus eamaldulensis against Anopheles stephensi.Methods:The chemical compositions of the leaf essential oils were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(GC/MS).The larvicidal activity of essential oils and extract of leaf were tested against 4th instar larvae of laboratory-reared Anopheles stephensi.Results:GC/MS analyses identified the presence of 28 compounds corresponding to 99.60%of the total oil.The main constituents in the leaf essential oil were 1,8-cineole(69.46%),γ-Terpinene(15.10%),α-Pinene(5.47%) and Globulol(2%).The leaf extract and volatile oil exerted significant larvicidal activity with LC50 values of 89.85 and 397.75 ppm,respectively.Clear dose-response relationships were established with the highest dose of 320 ppm essential oil extract resulted almost 100%mortality in the population.Conclusions:The larvicidal properties suggest that the essential oil of plant is a potential source of valuable larvicidal compounds against malaria vector and can be used as an alternative to synthetic insecticides. | Sedaghat Mohamad Medhi Sanei Dehkordi Ali Reza Khnavi Mahnaz Abai Mohammad Reza Hadjiakhoondi Abbas Mohtarami Fatemeh Vatandoost Hassan | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,11: | 2 |
| 4 | Irritability of malaria vector,Anopheles sacharovi to different insecticides in a malaria-prone area显示文摘Objective:To determine the susceptibility and irritability level of malaria vector Anopheles sacharovi(An.sachrovi) to different insecticides in a malaria-prone area.Methods:Susceptibility and irritability levels of field collected strain of An.sacharovi to WHO standard papers of DDT 4%,dieldrin 0.4%,malathion 5%,fenitrothion 1%,permethrin 0.75%,and deltamethrin 0.05% were determined in East Azerbaijan of Iran during reemerging of malaria as described by WHO.Results:Results showed that at the diagnostic dose of insecticides this species exhibited resistance to DDT,tolerant to dieldrin and but somehow susceptible to fenitrothion,malathion, permethrin and deltamethrin.The results of irritability of this species to DDT,lambdacyhalothrin. permethrin cyfluthrin and deltamethrin revealed that DDT had had the most and deltamethrin the least irritancy effect.The average number of take offs/fly/minules for DDT was 0.8±0.2.The order of irritability for permethrin,lambdacyhalothrin,cyfluthrin and deltamethrin were 0.7±0.2,0.5±0.2, 0.5±0.3,and 0.2±0.1,respectively.Conclusions:Results of this study reveals the responsiveness of the main malaria vector to different insecticides.This phenomenon is depending on several factors such as type and background of insecticide used previously,insecticide properties,and physiology of the species.Careful monitoring of insecticide resistance and irritability level of species could provide a clue for appropriate selection of insecticide for malaria control. | Hassan Vatandoost Mohammad Reza Abai | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,2: | 1 |

| 6 | Geographical distribution and ecological features of the great gerbil subspecies in the main zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis foci in Iran显示文摘Objective:To reveal subspecies composition of Rhombomy opimus(R.opimus) in Iran. Methods:In this study,field specimens of the gerbil were collected from all its geographical rang in northeast and central parts of Iran and identified on basis of morphological characteristics.Results:Results revealed presence of two subspecies of R.opimus sodalis and R. opimus sargadensis in the country.The first subspecies with brown to hazel-nut color and a size bigger than a typical R.opimus was found only in Golestan province,an isolated colony which is located in plains of north slopes of Alborz Chain Mountains of the country,connected with the Turkmenistan.The subspecies of R.opimus sargadensis with a yellowish color and similar size as a typical R.opimus was found in all other areas of the great gerbil distribution in Iran.There was a distinct topographic difference but similar ectoparasites between colonies of the two subspecies in the study area.Conclusions:Further ecological and genetic investigations are required for more detailed description of the R.opimus subspecies range and structure.The R.opimusPhlebotomus papatasi-Leishmania major association and the ZCL severity and outcome in hosts are discussed. | Mohammad Reza Abai Mohammad Ali Oshaghi Leila Tajedin Yavar Rassi Amir Ahmad Akhavan | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,10: | 1 |

| 8 | Fauna and some biological characteristics of Anopheles mosquitoes(Diptera:Culicidae) in Kalaleh County,Golestan Province,northeast of Iran显示文摘Objective:To determine fauna and some ecological aspects of Anopheles mosquitoes in northeast of Iran.Methods:In this descriptive study,3 villages in Kalaleh County were selected in different geographical zones.Anopheles mosquitoes were collected biweekly from May to October using standard dipping method for larvae,and hand catch,total catch,artificial pit shelter as well as night-biting collections on human and animal baits for adults.Results:Totally 399 larvae and 2 602 adults of Anopheles mosquitoes were collected and identified as 2 species:Anopheles superpictus s.l.(An.superpictus s.l.) and Anopheles maculipennis s.l.The dominant species was An.superpictus s.l.(92.1%).Activity of these mosquitoes found to be started from middle of May and extended till September with two peaks of activity in July and August.Conclusions:An.superpictus s.l.as one of the main malaria vectors in Iran as well as some other parts of the world is the dominant species in the study area.This species has high potential for transmission and possibility of establishing a transmission cycle with low abundance.Other species,Anopheles maculipennis s.l.also has introduced as a malaria vector in northern parts of Iran.As this Anopheles is a complex species,genetic studies are recommended to determine the members of this complex in the study area. | Aioub Sofizadeh Hamideh Edalat Mohammad Reza Abai Ahmad Ali Hanafi-Bojd | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2016,6,9: | 0 |

Plus, a long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito net with synergist against malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi显示文摘Objective: To determine the wash resistance of Olyset~? Plus using World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme standard washing procedure and to assess the value of knock down and mortality rates of Anopheles stephensi at different regimens of long lasting insecticide treated nets washings.Methods: The study was conducted at the Bioassay Laboratory of Culicidae Insectary,School of Public Health, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran. The net was made of polyester impregnated with permethrin and piperonyl butoxide at a ratio of 2:1. The washing resistance was assessed using Le Chat?soap and a shaker incubator set at a speed of 155 r/min, 30℃ for 10 min. The cone bioassay test was carried out according to World Health Organization recommended guideline with tolerant field strain of female Anopheles stephensi to pyrethroids.Results: The knockdown and mortality rates of female mosquitoes exposed to Olyset~? Plus from un-washed nets to 2 washings were 79.7% and 88.8% respectively. Mortality was dropped to zero while active ingredient estimated 0.532 mg/100 cm^2 to 0.481 mg/100 cm^2 after 15 washings. A positive correlation was seen between residues of permethrin on nets, knockdown rate and mortality rate of female Anopheles stephensi exposed to different regimes of washed Olyset~? Plus(r = 0.954, P = 0.001).Conclusions: It is recommended that a preliminary survey conducted on resistance level of Anopheles vectors before the distribution of Olyset~? | 10 | Evaluation of biological control agents for mosquitoes control in artificial breeding places显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the entomological impact of chlorpyrifos-methyl,Bacillus thuringiensis, and Gambusia affinis on mosquitoes control in artificial breeding places.Methods:A Latin square design with 4 replicates was performed in order to evaluate the efficacy of chlorpyrifosmethyl, Bacillus thuringiensis,and Gambusia affinis on larva.The larvicide was applied at the dosage of 100 mg a.h/ha,Bacillus thuringiensis at the recommended dosage and 10 fishes per m^2 were applied at 1×1 m^2 artificial breeding sites.The larval densities for both anopheline and culicine were counted according to larvae /10 dippers prior and 24 h after application.Results: All three control agents are effective for mosquito density reduction,and the difference between the three agents and the control is significant(P<0.05).There is also significant difference among chlorpyrifos-methyl,Bacillus thuringiensis and Gambusia affinis.Bacillus thuringiensis exhibited more reduction on mosquito larval density than fish and larvicide(P<0.05).Conclusions: Bacillus thuringiensis in comparison with two other agents is the appropriate method for larviciding in the breeding places.Although long term assessing for biological activities as well as monitoring and mapping of resistance is required. | Salim Abadi Yaser Vatandoost Hassan Rassi Yavar Abai Mohammad Reza Sanei Dehkordi Ali Reza Paksa Azim | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,4: | 0 |

| 12 | Astrodaucus persicus as a new source of bioinsectisides against malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi显示文摘Objective: To determine the larvicidal activities of petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol fractions of roots and fruits extracts of Astrodaucus persicus from Apiaceae family against malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi(An. stephensi).Methods: Twenty five third instar larvae of An. stephensi were exposed to various concentrations(10–160 g/L) of fractions and were assayed according to World Health Organization protocol. The larval mortality was calculated after 24 h treatment.Results: Among tested fractions, the highest larvicidal efficacy was observed from ethyl acetate fraction of fruits extract with 50% and 90% mortality values(LC_(50) and LC_(90)) of34.49 g/L and 108.61 g/L, respectively. Chloroform fraction of fruits extract was the second larvicidal sample with LC_(50) of 45.11 g/L and LC_(90) of 139.36 g/L. | 13 | Larvicidal activity of essential oil and methanol extract of Nepeta menthoides against malaria vector Anopheles stephensi显示文摘Objective:To investigate the larvicidai activity of essential oil and methanol extract of the Nepeta menthoides(N.menthoides) against main malaria vector,Anopheles stephensi(An. stephensi).Methods:The essential oil of planl was obtained by Clevenger type apparatus and the methanol extract was supplied with Percolation method,larvicidai activity was tested by WHO method.Twenty five fourth-instar larvae of An.stephensi were used in the larvicidai assay and four replicates were tested for each concentration.Five different concentrations of the oil and extract were tested for calculation of LC50 and LC50 values.Results:The LC50 and LC90 values were determined by probit analysis.IC50 was 69.5 and 234.3 ppm and LC50 was 175.5 and 419.9 ppm for the extract and essential oil respectively.Conclusions:According to the results of this study methanolic extract of plant exhibited more larvicidai activity than essential oil.This could be useful for investigation of new natural larvicidai compounds. | Khanavi Mahnaz Fallah Alireza Vatandoost Hassan Sedaghat Mahdi Abai Mohammad Reza Hadjiakhoondi Abbas | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,12: | 0 |
